Friend by Fiend solved that issue by forcing a split instance after the initial group photo.
So you get 60 or so people on the first instance then split it perfectly in half.
You then get two 30-30 instances that are ready to be filled.

I'm sure the offshoot instance in this case will fill up too just that it will be a bit slower to fill compared to forcing a 30-30 split to start with.

We've had multiple instances for years now.
1. Make the map max people.
2. Make multiple instances anyway and let people sort themselves into the instance they want to be in based on their own performance and which instance their friends are in.
3. Take early group photos for each instance.
4. When inevitably 1/3 of vrg leaves the event to go to bed or go to their own private instance and everyone migrates to a single instance you take the final event group photo with the maximum amount of people.

Forcing the map events to be small to force multiple instances from the start fucks with the flow of the event more than having multiple instances that may start out laggy but eventually self regulates.

Hello K, here's your feedback.

You spent a lot of effort, possibly even money, on your newest event. It was a pretty huge disaster for almost everyone involved except for the people that were able to make it in to the extremely tiny instance with the 16(32) limit you set it as. The people that were in that instance were satisfied for about a good 15-20 minutes, until they realized there was basically nothing in the map to interact much with aside from the metal breaking thingy mini-game that everyone was gathered around.

And then people started getting bored of that, and a lot of people in the 1st main instance started to realize that a lot of their friends were in the 2nd overflow instance, which was also full. So the people from the main 1st full instance that wanted to visit their friends from the 2nd overflow instance couldn't, and vice versa, because both were full due to an absurdly small player limit cap, and then people started leaving to the Quantum instance, and by then a bunch of people just agreed the event was shit and it's immediately time to move on.

tl;dr: The event was a fucking disaster because of the player limit. It ruined the entire thing. Please get an oversite committee or something to steer your events in the right direction K. Your events are good in spirit and design but you miss the basic necessities that an event should have, and it's literally every fucking time man. All you had to do was something as basic as opening the instance cap to everyone.

You've been doing multiple events for a long time and the vast majority of them keep ending in disaster. I really wish you'd stop learning from your fuckups at this point and learn to just make a good event without any glaring issues, but it just keeps happening.
PLEASE stop fucking up for your next event dude. Get someone to correct you when you're wrong. You're clearly bad at the basic planning stuff. Just hire someone that's done events before to handle the basics(and don't make it SOS)

VRG Maps should just be set to 40 (80) player limits by default, unless there is a super specific reason as to why the map can't accommodate that many people.

I appreciate the honest feedback. There are a few points I would like to respond to.
-The size. An idea was brought to me and the map creator to potentially cap the instance, and have multiple splinter instances pre-setup. One of the more common complaints regarding events is them turning into laggy messes, and people being hesitant to go to secondary instances for fomo fears of being left out. Sounded like a great idea at the time, as 3 32 capped instances would hold 96 people.
I assumed that the initial influx of people would be rocky, but once people got settled and started moving around, people would hop from instance to instance to see friend groups, and things would even out. A few technical problems happened that prevented any remedies to the situation occurring. There were a few technical hitches that prevented all 3 instances from coming online at the same time, just CPU problems. No one's fault at all, just shit luck.
As far as manually raising the player cap immediately through VRCX, flat out couldn't do it. Me and the map creator had the map uploaded on his account. For whatever reason, VRC (once you hit a certain number of maps), has issues properly showing your map on your "my worlds" section. It's basically invisible, and you can't make any changes to it. To remedy this, we were going to upload it onto my account, that way any changes that needed to be made could be quickly and easily. Problem number two arouse when we were unable to get into my account in another country, as it continually told me to check my email for a confirmation link, and no email was ever sent. If yall remember today I was complaining about emptying my email inbox, that's why I did that, because I thought it may be too full to receive VRC's email. Nope, it just flat out wouldn't come through. We tried easily 10+ times. We did have access to a world link, but couldn't make any changes as the world is essentially invisible on one account, and not on the other CONT

Those two technical problems presented huge hurdles. Are they an excuse? No, but they are an explanation as to why I couldn't rectify when I saw things going south quickly.

The other points I would like to address, is the lack of activities. This time last year, I recall one of the bigger complaints regarding events being the overall over complexity of them, and a desire to return to more simple events where we quote "make a outfit, show up, hang out and socialize, take some pictures, and enjoy the night". That's what I look at my event as being, a simple meet and greet where we make some avatars, laugh at some in references, play some minigames, and call it a night. I'm not technically minded enough to masterfully put together a ton of Udon stuff and make fuckhuge fun things like speed dating, etc. I think there is still a place for low key events that are mostly just for fun.

The last point being the vast majority of my events ending in disaster. I'll agree 200% that VRGrammys was a shit show and should never ever be repeated. Terrible idea, bad execution, everything about it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The literal only good thing that came out of it was all the nice shit people made for it, the contributions of those who helped, the sneedup, and the prank at the end of it. That shit was great. That being said, the only other event I've ever hosted was the original last years wish upon a star. I don't think mamamad crashing the balls out of it is something I could necessarily have predicted, or prevented. It's just one of those "is what it is" things.

Short of invite+, which a large majority of the community views as gatekeeping (which doesn't even prevent it once an instance ID is known), there's very little you can do to prevent that. I'd rather thread anon's and people who aren't necessarily on mine or other hosts friendslist be able to attend then do invite+.

So I've finally got a router to test out Air Link and am I doing something wrong or is my cable (pic related, its page seems to be missing from Amazon) simply shit? The reviews were really good as well as numerous so I didn't see a point in getting the ridiculously overpriced official cable. When I'm using the cable, visuals and sound stutter all over the place. The stutters are extremely short but extremely annoying and very frequent and happen no matter where and no matter if I set the encode bitrate to 200 or 300 Mbps in the debug tool or leave it on auto. All this time I simply thought my PC was too shit for VR (i5-7600K, 1060 6 GB, 32 GB of DDR4 2400 MHz RAM), yet now I find that it works perfectly fine in Air Link without even sacrificing visual quality, bar the slightly higher latency (though at this point I'm not even sure if that's really the case). For the record, I've connected the cable to one of the USB 3.1 Gen1 Type-A ports on my shitty ASRock B250M Pro4, could the culprit possibly be that the USB port is too slow and that I need USB 3.1 Gen2 and/or Type-C?

Dunno about that. Valve doesn't manufacture sticks themselves, they source them out. ALPS for example doesn't have a product in that formfactor that is rated for anything reasonable. Everything they have is basically rated for the equivalent of 4 months of everyday use, people did research during the dualsense-gate.
I honestly wonder what the actual issue is. There should be demand, the stick issues are the reputation ruining thing for companies.

Last night was the Wish Upon A Star festival! This was my first year attending so I didn't know what to expect. It ended up being a very cute little map with a Capybara theme. The little guys were everywhere! A lot of soul was poured into this map, K did a good job player cap issues aside!

There were activities such as traditional Japanese axe throwing. I happened to run into this mother and her cub playing it. They were very cute together.

And it wasn't just families attending...

There were a lot of couples enjoying a steamy, dreamy night under the stars together. I managed to snap a photo of one.

I wonder what thoughts go through their heads when they lock eyes like that... I'm so jealous!

It wasn't all fun times though. An ancient titty demon that had been sealed away for thousands of years broke free and threatened the chastity of everyone at the event. Very scary stuff. Thankfully a passing Miko was able to pacify the fiend and disaster was averted.

Here we have a group of carousers around some of the stalls. There were a LOT and there's no way I could post all of them but you could find everything from bowls of ramen to morbius bites shaped like blood bags. Just because it's a holiday doesn't mean you should pig out though so be careful, anon.

If you just want to warp a texture on top of a flat mesh around, you can still subdivide that part of the mesh and drag the vertices around for your shape keys. If you want to swap out different textures, you can use the viseme animator parameter in a layer and swap out the material or change UV offsets for a sprite sheet.

That model's mouth is probably a mesh itself rather than a textured plane, i.e. a 2d vector shape. Then you can still animate it with shapekeys and blending works as well as it ever does.

The sensors weigh about 80 grams, even the lightest picture frame-style adhesive strips can handle them. The sensors also have standard quarter inch bolt threads in the bottom and work the upside down, so you can go to a hardware store and for a couple of dollars grab a bracket and bolt to do a setup like this. It's not pretty, but it works perfectly.
