as an update to this, i tried updating drivers and bios, reverting updates, putting weird stuff into command line, pretty much everything you could imagine and i still got desktop BSODs with "kernel mode heap corruption" and "kernel security check failure".

then i just tried launching the game from steamVR inside my headset instead of the steam Library (???) and it worked perfectly. i mean i guess this means ill never be able to be a desktopper again but at least i can play the game i guess.
