Found out that being near sighted also affects VR. Figured it didn't. Need to get some lenses.
>>395559617 (OP)
I don't think this webm counts as virtual reality gaming.
>>395561139
I remember anons saying that the lenses are focused at 2 meters, so if you are near sighted below that threshold you will need lenses.
>>395561169
What it is then?
Looks like gaming in virtual reality for me.
>>395561282
>are focused at 2 meters
Aren't they focused on infinity?
>>395561139
consider contacts before insert lenses since you'll need custom lenses for every headset each time you upgrade
>>395561680
>>395561282
>Aren't they focused on infinity?
They are. 2 meters claim is bullshit.

WoW was revolution in mmorpgs for flat gaming, still around today and popular.
I hope we will see some mmorpg like that for VR soon
the ones that exist now just aren't there yet. It will be pretty challenging designing combat and rpg mechanics around physical movement of the player without making it too complicated or too boring after a week
>>395561769
Yes but also you don't have to put the lenses in your eyes, and you're never upgrading from an index anyway let's be real.
>>395559617 (OP)
Is that Onago Touch? I could never figure out how to control it properly.
>>395561769
I considered get a load of one day contact lenses but in the end it seemed like it would be cheaper and easier just to get the custom vr lenses.
>>395563803
>I hope we will see some mmorpg like that for VR soon
It will come. We're kind of getting close to the Everquest stage with games like Zenith, although Zenith is not that good. It takes a few stabs from a few developers before that one game or application comes along and everything clicks. EQfags don't @ me
>>395564169
>Is that Onago Touch?
It's koi-koi vr, which released last month.
>>395564327
>It will come.
It will not. Big game devs forgot how to make games properly and indies wouldn't be able to support the infrastructure required for a good MMO.
>>395564504
>It will not. Big game devs forgot how to make games properly and indies wouldn't be able to support the infrastructure required for a good MMO.
Zenith is an independent developer not backed by any huge publisher as far as I know, maybe just VC money. VR operates more on word of mouth, you're not going to have a WoW-like game launch out of the gate to a million players. If the game is good, the players will come and the devs will scale up accordingly. You have to be especially risky operating service games in this economy now.
>>395564676
Zenith is also trash.
>>395564729
Neither is everquest. That's why I made the suggestion. It's new and novel and it sucked in a few people, but it wasn't quite as groundbreaking as WoW. Zenith adds some interesting things to the genre such as gesture mechanics that you can only really do in VR, but overall it's not a very good game or even a good MMO. I stayed clear of the Zenith hype because it just seemed like a lot of sqeakers and anime degenerates getting suckered into the whole
>BRO BRO IT'S SWORD ART ONLINE NOW HOLY SHIT BUY IT BRO I DON'T WANNA BE ALONE
>>395564327
I still remember when they announced that the new Everquest would support VR, so much for that
>>395564371
Is it any good? It looks like a crappy vn with no english translation.

Are you talking about Everquest Next? Holy shit that feels like 10 years ago at this point.

>Oh. I found a monocular!

Oh yeah. I'm ridiculously unsteady. There's no smoothing toggle in Into the Radius, is there?
>>395573692
Not that I'm aware of, no.
Have fun trying to use scopes :^)
I do not understand H3VR. I tried bros, but these controls suck ass.
>>395577449
It's only really playable on Index controllers because they have enough inputs. Ironically the dev still uses Vive wands.
>>395577449
There is nothing to understand. It's shit and dev is a fat retard.
>>395577449
What's wrong with them? I'm using the Quest 2 and everything works pretty good. Just takes a little time to learn the slide release stuff. But I also use arm swinger, the other smooth motion one that you have to swap between control schemes is dildoes.
>>395577804
Most people aren't armswingpilled.
>>395578346
Is that really it? Weird. I kinda want to hear more though.
If you don't like the controls for H3VR, why? Legit curious. I recommend it to a fair amount of people, I feel kind of bad if there's a lot of people that fall out with it because of controls.
>>395578891
A lot of people are retarded and just copy the opinions of others, so I wouldn't care too much.
>>395577449
I use the smooth motion controls. They're kind of fucked up if you want to use both sticks for movement at the same time. What I usually do is have my left controller enabled for walking then physically move my body in the real world. This leaves my right hand with the ability to use the gun specific controls and to telekinesis shit to my hands. It's a weird fucking control scheme that isnt great and soured me on the quest controllers. I want more buttons don't care where you put them.
>people cry about buttons because a fat retard dev made a trash control scheme
many such cases
>>395580314
Why do you object so much to more buttons?
>>395580727
>*whips out machete and pistol*
>nothing personnel, kid
>>395580727
pspspspsps
>>395580914
Because I thought that we need more buttons too, but then realized that we just need better control schemes.
>>395581078
Your 'better control schemes' include removing basic gun functions because they don't fit on buttons.
>>395580727
>Attacks you on sight all game
>Suddenly wants to be friends
I ain't falling it
>>395581463
Everything that is easily available on a gun (without moving your hand from the handle) is already available.
Even if you ignore fingertracking, with just 2 digital buttons you have 4 combinations, so even if you go full-retard you can still bind everything.
>>395581971
Bolt release is usually paired with magazine release which is a terrible way to do it, indicative of the fact there's at least one button missing from the controller.
>>395581051
>>395581840
Weird. I put my knife/melee weapon on my left chest pocket. I keep my probes and detector on my arms. Maybe my equipment hitboxes are just weird, but I have to reach around to the far side of my arm to grab whatever is there. Hard to do in the heat of the moment but yanking my melee weapon off the left side of my chest is so much quicker.
>>395582538
One of those webms if from version 1 where you couldn't change what was in each slot.
>>395582668
Oh. Maybe that's it. I did only recently get into Into the Radius.
>>395581051
>tfw had a black cat and this is pretty accurate in low light
>>395581051
old spawns were cuter
>>395582538
I struggled to grab stuff off my arms too until I went into the settings and made my arms shorter. Suddenly felt much better.
>>395580052
Huh. I do that with pretty much all VR games and haven't really thought about it.
>>395589667
In h3vr there's a button that enables/disables the stick controlling moving/turning. When it's disabled you can click in the stick to do certain things. This is poorly explained and anyone hoping to use the stick is shit out of luck. I usually rely on the sticks for most movement but honestly I don't mind it.
>>395590601
I see, I'm guessing that's what they've mapped the touchpad controls to. Yeah that sounds awful. The controls work fantastic on Index.
>>395590956
The controls work great on the old wmr controllers too, which is why when I was looking to upgrade I was tempted to get a G2 and keep use the old controllers with it.
>>395564327
I don't see VR MMOs taking off until we get to the point we can use natural language to talk to NPCs, and they'll respond in fashion with dialog that is generated based on our response with some fancy TTS voice, rather than canned message.
VR as a medium is still in its infancy stage.
>>395593809
Agreed.
>>395593809
Am I the only one that would cringe if I had to talk out loud to a game?
>>395594582
A reminder that EQ1, one of the most popular earlier MMOs, had you RP typing to every NPC.
>>395594582
In the Kinect era we had people shouting FUSRODAH at their tv's 3-4 times because it would barely register.
>>395594662
It was the talking out loud aspect rather than rp'ing that I was future cringing at.
>>395594939
I honestly feel it'll be the new standard for VR games interaction once it's feasible to do with extremely little room for interpretation error. No one likes game menus in VR, but we're probably stuck with them for accessibility reasons even if the former statement becomes true one day.
You people have the most retarded takes sometimes.
>>395595592
They're visionaries anon, misunderstood in our time but in the future people will look back and wonder why noone listened to that random anon on 4chan's /vrgg/ board.
>>395563803
MMOs are dead
If you want to play party content, play games that are designed around coop and with good core mechanics.
>>395594582
What's the cringe part? Being heard in real life or in the game?
Maybe you could try getting used to schizo talking to yourself without a headset on first.

> i have shit genetics so i get fat from just drinking water
this is just cope and you know it
bows and throwing knives are always me favorite weapons in flat games, i even use them over fire guns
but holy shit in vr it's so frustrating. aiming that shit is so hard, because it's literally as hard as doing it for real. they can't expect players to master IRL archery to have fun in the game with bows
>>395611694
skill issue, literally.
>>395611694
>they can't expect players to master IRL archery to have fun in the game with bows
Why not?
>>395611694
throwing knives i can understand because there still isn't a standard implementation of throwing in games and it can be janky but bows?
>>395611694
Get a real VR dumbass
>>395611036
>Fat "people" actually believe that their bodies can defy the laws of thermodynamics
Maybe you need a gym membership instead of a VR headset.
>>395611694
What game? Most games with either of those exaggerate physics to make things easier. Look at The Walking Dead S&S where the heads of zombies will conveniently have much larger hitboxes when using a bow, or Blade & Sorcery where a thrown weapon somehow has way more momentum than it should.
>>395611694
Knives in VR simply don't work without a lot of guidance, simply because we can't feel the weight balance of the object being thrown.
Reminds me of the wonky grenade throwing in Pavlov you have to get used to, where your throwing strength is probably 5x of that of what you'd expect from your RL motion.
>>395613551
Blacktop Hoops has a pretty nice throw auto-assist. It's very difficult to successfully make shots without it on the hardest difficulty but turn it down a level and the assist effect is subtle.

they just need to add auto aim for that shit, where if you throw or shoot arrow within certain angle of the target it will just magically adjust the projectile path to hit correctly
the worst part is that learning to shoot bow without auto aim in VR is as hard as in real life and the skill doesn't even translate, so if you learn it in VR you still can't shoot bow irl anyway
maybe it's okay if VR games are harder to master

>>395699679
I blame Valve for not putting the same level of haptics into Index since it's the second most-owned headset that's not Oculus-based.
We already got Switch & PS5 with controllers of a similar level of haptic feedback, but hardly any games make use of it there either outside of the 1st-party support, and it'd be far more beneficial in the VR space.

I'm curious if those wrist bracelets Facebook's poured millions of R&D into (and buying the company that made it) are sensitive enough to do full on arm tracking on their own rather than just wrist+fingers.
It would allow for the thing I've wanted for awhile where we can have arm+hand tracking in an FPS, plus a physical gun controller to hold as a third tracked object, without the clunkyness of trying to take two existing controllers and attaching it to a stock.

I could use a game that is basically The Warriors (the R* game) but in VR. Mugging people, looting stores, beating up hobos, commanding a small gang about.
Basically Payday 2 with more open environments and no guns.

I'm still holding hope for a PC release of the Puzzle Bobble game, but that's growing dim after it's been a year after the initial Quest release and subsequent PS4/PS5 version. VR really lacks some casual puzzle-type games to go back to once in awhile.

I'd rather they have that studio fucking finish LA Noire VR because that shit was great despite only having 1/4 of the cases of the flat game.
>>395791970
On PC Bonelab and S&box, mainly so modders can make stuff for them.
I'm honestly more interested in PSVR2 when it comes to actual games. RE4make having VR sounds great. I passed up on RE4VR because of the censorship, which seems to be the right choice as my 4th playthrough of the game will be genuinely novel the time around. The Horizon VR game could be good too, but I'll have to see how much content it has.
>>395780236
Skyvoice VR, I use it all the time. It's way more handy to use than having to open a menu to switch shouts. There is a delay of about a second, but it works fine otherwise. One thing I like is how you have to actually get good at pronouncing the dragon language. In The Way Of The Voice I kept getting shittalked as I couldn't figure out how to pronounce whirlwind sprint correctly, until I looked it up and realized that 'wuld' needs to be pronounced like 'would'. Voice recognition for shouts is nothing new of course given that the 360 version had it via the Kinect.
There's also Dragonborn Speaks Naturally which does the same thing for normal dialog, but I don't really use it as it doesn't add much. It does have an option for activating other actions up to and including console commands if you really want to access those without a VRIK gesture or using your keyboard.
Have a 30% discount code for oculus. If I only buy 1 game from these what should I get?

Oh interesting. Was under the impression it would be full VR.
Then RE it probably is.

That's truly unfortunate. With a proper VR mode it'd have so much potential of being one of the best VR horror games.
The base game is interactive enough to feel like playing it in VR should be worth it.
>>395871714
I believe there was a community mod that unfucked a lot of the no-support VR mode, but can't recall if that ever got fixed up when the game was receiving updates leading up to that stand-alone expansion.

I'll add that it's not a total rework or anything, just bugfixes and QoL. The port itself is still shit, but it's worth a try if you have the game already. This means that if I want to beat Expert+ songs, I always have to memorize the song first
>>395891402
No it doesn't. Your brain reconfigures itself if you play more. 3 hours is nothing and one long session is much worse than playing shorter sessions regularly. If you play most days for 20 minutes that song will be easy within a few weeks.
>>395891637

once you play enough to start seeing the tetris effect of blocks flying at you when you close your eyes, or in your dreams, that's your brain essentially training itself to recognize the patterns by playing them back. So sleep on it and come back and you'll notice your reaction time continue to improve day by day.

This looks pretty promising. There's dual wielding at around 1:00. What's weird about the whole thing is that there's full body in the cutscenes and floating hands in the actual gameplay.
>>395880378
Squadrons was in an awkward middle ground on the controls. It wasn't autistic enough for the hardcore simulation audience who likes the mere experience of flying in something to be as hardcore as possible with 6 billion buttons, but it was just a little too hardcore for the casual audience and to be something you slip on for some fun now and again without much thought, like say Project Wingman. I put down Squadrons for 6 months, felt like trying it again but said fuck it when trying to remember and remap all my buttons.

RE4 on Quest is better than it had any right being given Armature's prior Quest entries were phone-tier games that kept it simple. Wish that dev would be given a budget to make something original though. Last big game they worked on was Batman: Blackgate on 3ds/Vita which I quite liked, and that game is 9 years old already.I just came to realize my Vita is already a decade old. Fuck that gen passed quick, and fuck Sony for their mishandling of the best handheld hardware.
The only complain one would have at that release was a lack of Mercernaries mode for replayability, but that was patched in after the fact at no cost.
Is there any VR roguelite with actual item synergy and decent randomization? Most VR "rougelites" I've seen and played barely have the right to be called one since the randomization is barely significant to gameplay and there's too much focus around doing consecutive runs (and meta progression) just to "get stronger" (via some grind that boost player stats) rather than unlock more variables/tools.
>>395927752
Does it have the Ada Wong campaign yet?
>>395943998
Unfortunately not yet, if it's even happening. I can't recall if any release of RE4 with that content even had it all running in-engine. The versions I all played with that content (Wii/PS3/PS4) maintained the FMVs the PS2 version had. It'd require Armature to either recreate the cutscenes themselves, or pray Capcom had the scenes all archived for them in a usable format to port into UE4.
for me it's the neosvr metaverse

It looked like something that would have been ideal to setup avatars/maps with in desktop mode if it functioned well, and then be social in VR, but it fails on both counts unless you want to spend forever doing any simple task. Will it get there one day? Probably, if the core contributors don't lose access. Still has a long ways to go, especially on the performance end.

I can't deal with this shit anymore. Buying a link cable was the whole fucking reason to get away with constantly fiddling with VD, Airlink, and even ALVR. And they can all be independent issues influencing your decision making depending on what software you're running. There is no point to this. It's just a general comment on the state of PCVR after all these years and how it's no different to troubleshooting a flat game that isn't working correctly.
>Just don't use the chipset usb ports.
Plugging the link cable into a different usb port? FUCK! WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT? WHY DID THAT NEVER OCCUR TO ME? I THOUGHT IT WOULD ONLY WORK ON THE FIRST USB PORT I PLUGGED IT INTO! SHIT!

You are not acting rationally. You talk about it, but I don't see you doing any real troubleshooting and all I see is useless crying in a manner of "thingy not worky, me sad".
Let me spoonfeed you the steps.
1. Close everything on your PC, besides steamvr, oculus service, oculus debug menu.
2. Set the resolution to the minium and refresh rate to 120hz
3. Get a well written game which uses OpenXR (Ancient Dungeon fits well here)
4. In Oculus Debug Tool, set Visible HUD to Performance.
5. Start the link and open the game.
6. Move around in the main menu, move your hands and check your latency numbers.
7. Switch Performance HUD from Performance Summary to Oculus Link Detail, check stability of the transfer graphs and write the numbers down.
8. Close the game and start increasing the resolution, test and write the numbers down.
9. Go to step one, but now use air link through the dedicated wifi6 asus router
10. Compare the numbers of air vs cable
Stop making assumptions based on nothing and trying to "fix" the issues you don't even know exist for sure. That is just stupid and if you do so, you deserve to be talked to in the condescending manner.
That's all.

Now you're the one that wants to act like a debate bro and demand proof that I somehow don't know what I'm looking at when I benchmark any game and troubleshoot?

If you want to generalize it down to that, whatever. Can't really throw stones when you call me a retard and accuse me of not knowing the basic VR things like using a program I've been using for years or even knowing how to isolate these devices to a 5ghz network. The entire argument behind the USBC thing is that there are fundamental limits to pushing all the headset data down a cable that wasn't designed for video transmission foremost. Yes, I realise that video encoding on the Quest-side and GPU side helps with this. Anybody who has pushed the quest 2 with high end cards will tell you, you can get most of the way to maxed out 120hz with a 3090, but you're going to run into issues depending on the game. In the case of the link, you are going to hit hitches and bottlenecks in performance and tracking at 120hz if you start super sampling so you can actually fucking see things in the distance. The bandwidth overhead for video encoding if you're maxing out the oculus slider puts even more of a strain on system resources more than running a native headset over a proper standard like display port. Hardware encoding is worse on AMD cards, and it's an undeniable fact that Airlink just straight up does not work for a lot of people regardless of how well their setup is. It's almost like pc setups and vr methods are highly variable and reproducing results isn't entirely simple?
There's undeniable overhead there. These things weren't meant to pushed this hard over usbc and there are fundamental limits to the video encoding on the headset. It seems more performant to keep both Oculus and SteamVR sliders at base and let the game do SS itself or FSR/DLSS. You get nearly identical visual results with objectively better frametimes and lower VRAM usage. Problem is, not every game has a built in internal rendering slider, and most don't go as high as you need them to.

>>396034259
Again, depending on the game you're going to have to troubleshoot around a bit and make sacrifice just like with flat pc games. Some things will just run like shit regardless. But I think that anyone will agree with me is that it makes things simpler for PCVR if you are only relying on a native headset that separates data and display into respective connections and you only have to rely on one VR runtime. I hope Deckard does it this way if it does turn out to be a hybrid headset.
>>396034259
You wrote a lot of words but said nothing.
Everything computer does is quantifiable.
CPU can perform certain amount of work in x time.
GPU can perform certain amount of work in x time.
You do things faster by performing less work, that's it.
>It's almost like pc setups and vr methods are highly variable and reproducing results isn't entirely simple?
All you have to do is share your personal experience. So we can compare the numbers and figure out how to optimize our own personal systems properly.
Do you even know what is the lowest latency number that is possible through link/airlink? I don't.
The lowest I could get is 42ms with airlink, is that good or not, impossible to tell, because every ape is just saying "works well/works poorly". What can be considered "well"? How can they even judge without numbers? I have no idea and that honestly pisses me off.
What I'm trying to say that it's impossible to judge without hard data. All that arguing without it is simply masturbation.

Which makes me hate how slow the OpenXR adoption rate is, despite both Unity and UE4 supporting it. Would be one less thing to troubleshoot.

Not sure how it's an autistic ask to want to play other games with a similar gameplay feature.
I'll give Into the Radius a look, thanks. Only other VR title I'm aware of with them is Phasmo, but that game has a bad flashlight feel, plus other problems of its own.
>>396065076
Now that you mention it, I wonder how Quest 2 handles the number of real time lights that can be active in ItR? Does it just chug if you activate too many or do they automatically deactive older sources?
>>396065580
Going by their dev teaser of it, the only real time light is simply your own, lol.

The dev said something about adding new mechanics to justify any new multicrew aircraft which makes a lot of sense to me. The Heli is harder to fly so splitting tasks with a second person feels like a fair trade but there might not be enough for both players to do to justify a 2 seater F/A-26B outside of training situations.
I'd like to see a multicrew aircraft with ECM/EWAR capability be added, something that can carry missiles too like the EA-18G. Actively managing the ECM would be a decent task for the second seat and I think it would serve a complimentary role alongside what we already have. The F-45A or other future additions could also have access to an ECM pod so the mechanic gets some extra milage.
>>396066361
Mobile VR will always be vastly inferior to PC because of the size of everything involved, but damn it's rough seeing how downgraded ports get even vs the PCVR version's low settings.
With a few exceptions, Q2 games feel like they're sitting somewhere between PS1 and PS2 tier graphics. I wonder how much longer we'll have to go till we start seeing games that consistently look like PS3 to early PS4 levels
>>396066361
The problem is that you can activate as many lights as you want.
>>396067031
Even the best PC hardware can't handle a large stash. Quest dropping frames with 10 items in that room isn't going to be acceptable. They'll probably end up with some kind of extreme simplifications of how objects are handled.
>>396069124
It's a game industry problem in general. Those with the techincal/artistical know-how to milk mobile hardware are generally not given the time/budgets to make it so, unless they got a publisher they can convince that them would make them more sales (eg. All the reviewers who raved about how Red Matter 1 & 2 look on Quest).
Quest 2 is definitely capable of 360-tier textures and polygon counts (not so much realtime environment lighting which that console gen also struggled heavily with @ 30fps), but it won't be worth the effort with how small the playerbase is on it relative to other platforms.
>>396066361
>PC Version gets downgraded
>Still needs more downgrading
Why not just release, I don't know, two versions of the same game? They did it with mobile releases of flat games.
>>396070275
>Quest 2 is definitely capable of 360-tier textures and polygon counts (not so much realtime environment lighting
This is the big problem. The Quest 2 sucks absolute ass when it comes to anything beyond the most basic and flat lighting. You can have everything else the exact same, but changing the lighting and shadows alone can be a ridiculous change to how good or bad something appears. Look at how different some ripped game models can appear because they don't have the lighting of their source or compare a good implementation of Ray Tracing(Such as Dying Light 2 or Metro Exodus: Enhanced Edition) to non ray tracing.
>>396070935
Most of these people are actually small indie developers and trying to code for two vastly different versions can be time and resource consuming. It's no wonder why a lot of games end up with the Quest 2 as the base version and then build off that.
>>395791970
Bonelab and Saints and Sinners 2
Both had awesome games, so their Sequel cant possibly fuck up, right?
>>396071141
I'm expecting a Quest 3 to not be that much of a performance spec boost, but it'll have enough shared memory in it that games can opt for shadow maps or baked lighting at not-garbage resolutions, although it'll start taking a hit to storage size in its place.
Devs at this point could probably rely on oldschool tricks, like vertex lighting. Could add more colour to the scene with it also.
>>396072486
Given both sequels are made in Quest limitations in mind, I'm expecting them both to have scaled-back implementations, which in turn affects the PC release.
Just like the I Expect You To Die sequel which looked like shit on PC compared to the original. Flat lighting, lower poly count in the scene, less objects to interact with.I don't blame the devs for it due to where the money is at present, but it does suck for fans of the original.
>>396073014
>Quest limitations in mind
Is this confirmed? I know Bonelab is but I can't see them gimping the PC version, they'd lose their existing audience. The games are going to be released around next-gen hardware, so I don't see why they can't take advantage of that.
>>396073014
Games getting quest'd always breaks my heart. One of the main appeals of vr in the first place was being able to see a massive amount of detail and being able to just lean in or pick up and inspect things. Quest downgrades just remove all of that detail for the sake of money. I'll never forgive the Onward dev for what he did to that game.
>>396072763
I'm hoping that once integrated eye tracking becomes standard for dynamic foveated rendering, it'll lead to a nice performance bump that'll allow mobile processors to punch a bit above their weight class, even if the raw power of the chip isn't that big of a jump. Even just right now, consider a generational jump of around 30-50% performance from an upgraded chip and then another 30%+ from foveated rendering and that's a lot of extra power to play with.
>>396074312
fuck off tranny
Does OBS have either a shadowplay esque feature or at least some way to stop/start recordings without dicking around in my Q2's airlink dash which currently won't bother interacting with the monitor? Not unwilling to try shadowplay again but I had some issue with it whether it was not focusing correctly or potato audio quality (I'm recording 1080p/60fps and also stream at that though I just use xsplit for streaming, or directly in discord if only a couple people are going to show up)
Also I can get custom songs into beat saber (only via ingame and like 50 search menus (god these need to be consolidated; probably a mod for it)) but how I find new avatars and stage replacements? And no I don't want to have an anime avatar
>>396073807
>they'd lose their existing audience
The devs of S&S already mentioned week-1 sales of their Quest port destroyed the current total PC sales up to that point.
>>396080120
We see this happen time and time again. The dev for Ultrawings 2 even expressed similar sentiment of how insanely lopsided the Q2 sales were vs PCVR.
Even if I hate it because of how downgraded it has resulted in games becoming or even the PCVR side abandoned entirely for the Quest version, I can't say I don't understand why devs do it. The Q2 audience is just massive in comparison.

Dynamic foveated rendering really doesn't help much unless you have a big fov, and the industry trend right now is less fov in exchange for less bulky and lighter form factor.

It's just the simpleness of the interactions and how emergent everything is. Flat games your only interaction with the world is with button presses. Physically pulling things back is just too nice. Even simple things like chamber checking.

Honestly I want to say I hope for there to be a competitor to the quest that breaks down the walled garden zucc is trying to build but I just know it's going to have the same demographic if it did - kids. Most realistic hope is for VRC worlds to get some continuity, saved stats or gear, and progression. Turn that game into an actual vr MMO that exists adjacent to the current content. Either that or Townshit stale actually getting content and stability.
>>396117752
>Most realistic hope is for VRC worlds to get some continuity, saved stats or gear, and progression
If they let you do text crap ingame so you can select© ascii from a dialog box, game worlds in theory could just use ye olde password input systems to resume a state on a following visit (or have the client be able to store these strings locally on a per-world basis).

I just hope PSV2 is actually good hardware this time around. PSVR1's reliance on old tech absolutely throttled it and made it a bad experience for a lot due to a shaking environment.
That also said, for the love of fucking god, put a breakout cable on it also since it'll be hooked directly up to a PS5 this time rather than an indepedent upscaler/signal-processing box. Don't want people yanking their whole console off the TV stand by accident now.

Right now the quest is getting the market completely untapped by PCVR by being the cheapest, standalone, heavily advertised, and requiring no room setup or PC to hook it up to. It's basically the mobile games market in both scope, market size, audience, and quality.

In Adventure Climb I had 3.6ms at the highest and also had the same problem still. Blade & Sorcery got me 6.5ms at the highest and ran smooth.
The weirdest part about this is that these games have run perfectly fine before on weaker hardware

Maybe something changed with your network. Connected anything else in 5Ghz ? Try to play with the bitrate maybe. I've had the game lagging a bit when it was set too high.
>>396143706
I'll try fucking with the bitrate next time, but it should be autoadjusting when needed. I've disconnected everything from the 5GHz, but these games were fine before I did that as well.
It doesn't seem like it's because of heavy load because B&S is heavy and runs smooth while Adventure Climb is light and doesn't.

Varjo Aero can. I've read the API.
You can implement PCVR rendered with foveated rendering today.

>>396179219
Could be useful for game interactions.
You know where the user is looking so you can correct the input, for example in a game like alyx you can see the user's intention gravity pull the wanted item.
There are many advantages even outside of foveated rendering and social vr.
>>396178626
It's a set of standards. SteamVR is already OpenXR compliant. It used to use OpenVR while Oculus used something proprietary, so developers would have to make two different versions of their games for different platforms. Now it should be possible to make one version of a game that runs on both with minimal differences.
The standards include things like how the buttons are referenced, for example the lower face button on both Index and Touch controllers is referenced in the same way so the game will naturally work the same on both controllers without having to make a control scheme specific to both and will also work on future OpenXR compliant controllers. It also means that one analog input method, a stick or a touchpad, is the standard, so the touchpad on Index should always be an optional input method to prevent the game being unplayable on other controllers.
>>396180278
The funny thing is that Oculus are the ones who push OpenXR hard.
If you read the docs for devs, the old oculus runtime is considered legacy right now and for everything new OpenXR is recommended.
>>396176940
Yes, both them and their devs have announced support for foveated rendering.
>>396177673
It really does suck that PC VR keeps lagging behind.
>>396177970
The only issue with the belief that "oh well it's not like we can make use of it anyway" is that in reality, fixed foveated rendering already gives us a huge performance boost (the Unity devs with PSVR 2 quote 2.5x, while dynamic foveated rendering is "only" 3.6x). So we could have that performance boost already since 2016, if the industry just cared to do it.
>>396178248
The video cards also need to support it and I'm not sure Nvidia can apply VRSS+VRS to everything. Apparently VRS doesn't even work in games with deferred rendering. And even then, it needs to be implemented by devs. Meanwhile on Quest today, you can apply it to any app just by using debug tools.
>>396178881
Unfortunately OpenXR's only an API, you still need support from GPU vendors. And on PC, AMD doesn't have any support for FR. Nvidia does but only through VRS/VRSS which has limitations. And then there is Varjo's OpenXR extension which does quad view rendering and has its own set of trade-offs.
>>396180776
"Fixed" foveated rendering is horseshit but also was already being done back in the day. Lots of Quest 1 games used it. The reason why it isn't widespread outside of ultra-performance constrained platforms is because it looks like complete shit to anyone with eyes.
>>396180776
>The video cards also need to support it

Wrong. Vulkan already has everything today to implement true dynamic foveated rendering for both vendors (nvidia and amd).

>>396179219
Eye movement is an important part of body language (for non-autists). But I think reliable eyetracking might be a really good way to navigate menus. Failing that, it'd be nicer than head-aiming in applications that currently do that.
>>396181472
how limited? Almost all VR games work fine with like 2x2m, enough to stretch your arms out. If you want a random recommendation, paper beast is cool and works fine even seated.
>>396179805
>>396181736
Thanks for the answers i appreciate it.
>>396182117
ya games that work seated for now
>>396182604
VTOL VR, Vox Machinae and Space Docker VR are all played sitting down.
>>396155216
>It's sad that even PCVR headset that have eyetracking can't do proper dynamic foveated rendering universally.
It's two things.
- The eye tracking has to be faster than fast.
- The GPU has to actually be capable of rendering different sections of the canvas in variable resolutions without requiring multiple passes, which only cards starting from the RTX2000 series onwards are capable of
>>396181108
The level of foveated rendering can be changed to give a good balance of performance to visual quality. Even when lens-matched, it's still better than not having any at all.
As for Quest foveated rendering, iirc there was a bug that made edges unaligned which made it more noticeable than it should've been.
Back in the day, in fact, Nvidia did have other methods to do fixed foveated rendering, and games like Raw Data and that Batman game actually used it.
>>396181181
How does that work? Vulkan is also simply just an API.
Varjo was only able to do FR, according to their documentation, by either using their extension so that you render 4 views, or by using VRS.
Nvidia themselves state that foveated rendering is only possible because they modified their hardware itself to do it. Otherwise you run into trade-offs like what you get with the quad view trick Varjo did unless used in tandem with SMP.
On one side, the Quest 2 helped VR games to grow.
On the other side, we got monkey paw'd and now most devs will make shitty ports for Quest 2 instead of proper PC VR games.
Why is the video game industry fucking cursed
>>396187304
*why is unregulated or poorly regulated capitalism fucking cursed
>>396187469
Yes, because Communism or even more government control short of Fascism over the entertainment industry would solve this
>>396187061

With variable rate shading (which is basically MSAA/SSAA but in reverse).
I can explain to you specifics, but there is no point.
What's important, that it works.
>>396187702
Everything devolving into shit to maximize profits doesn't seem like the best economic system desu.
>>396187702
That's why I used "poorly" instead of "less". We already have a lot of regulation, but the problem is they're not really working well to do what they were intended to do.
>>396187875
Can you show me an example of an app with VRS working on an AMD GPU then?
>>396187469
>*why is unregulated or poorly regulated capitalism fucking cursed
What does this even mean in the context of his post. Do you want to the government to dictate what platforms developers are able to develop for. The fact of the matter is that Quest is the larger platform. It will attract the most people who want to play your game.
>>396187469
The Quest 2 is just a cheap, easy to use, and actually not bad platform for normalfags. I don't see how regulations would have changed that.
As much as i'm seething, i can see why people are happy to play on quest 2 instead of having a 2k monster PC + 1K VR headset
>>396187983
>>396188886
I don't see how the government is going to help video games, especially in this sort of situation. Maybe if Meta was forced to stop making devices or something.
>>396189372
>>396189872
>>396190254
Yeah it might be a little confusing in context. The idea is that Quest 2 is only this successful because it can be driven by anticompetitive market behavior, like many other big platform owners do. With regulations that actually work, this wouldn't have happened, therefore preventing as large growth in these huge platforms, and giving PC a higher market share.
>>396190254
The bajillion dollar video game industry that lead to total stagnation due to the stakes involved was created by government practices that encourage monopolies.
>>396187304
PC VR really only has itself to blame for having standards.
>>396187304
I'm just hoping the visual standards for mobile VR will grow as more devs drop Quest 1 support.I doubt it. They'll probably look the same now and the devs just use Quest 2's spec bump to bruteforce the minimum 72fps Facebook requires, rather than optimize
>>396192572
It's not only visual tho. Even if they make better looking games, we'll get cucked by shitty CPU.
VTOL VR won't come to Q2 because it's actually CPU heavy, for example. You can't make complex games on this bitch.
>>396190269
That's odd. I actually just looked up AMD VRS and it does exist, and has existed for a while, though not used in the context of VR, and Varjo didn't mention it either. If AMD GPUs can actually run separate shaders on blocks of pixels, then it should be possible. But then why didn't anyone talk about supporting it?
Well that would be one problem taken care of. Does a VRSS alternative exist for AMD also or is it only VRS?
>>396194949
>Does a VRSS alternative exist for AMD
You can easily implement it with VK_KHR_fragment_shading_rate too.
The tools exists for a long time, most devs are just garbage.
PPSSPP, a PSP emulator now runs on the Quest 2. Really slaps playing Monster Hunter in VR.
>>396195674
Is there an option to just view the content through a window, as if you were gaming on a 3dtv?
>>396196030
Yeah you can map a button to toggle between flat screen curved floating in a void with just normal aspect ratio. Then you can toggle into this 6DOF mode. Menus are fucked in VR so you have to briefly go into flat screen to do inventory stuff. Works with cabled controllers into the headset as well. Using an Xbox series X controller with usb c.
>>396196680
>Menus are fucked in VR
Yeah, I figure most of it would be mapped 1:1 with the output resolution of the headset, which would mean shit at the edges of the PSP screen would all be tucked into your peripheral, which isn't ideal.
Long as the flat screen is still stereo though, that's good enough for me.
People browse the thread in VR, don't fucking longline.
>>396197159
Pretty weird any 3D environment places your 6DOF camera on the scene, and you can set an fov. Some games the UI isn’t such a big deal. But already got like 20+ games on my Quest 2 now. Very comfy, and most PSP games completely embarrass modern VR devs in terms of content and gameplay.

Of course no one does one exclusively. There is a mix of searching around vs building that each person employs on a gradient.

Looks much much better in motion. These are just Quest 2 screenshots and I am running it at 8x PSP rendering. Wipeout Pulse probably one of the best on the emulator for VR.
I picked up a vive cosmos for $120.
Anyone have experience with it? People said they improved the tracking software since launch but I haven't had a chance to try it myself. Even if the tracking is still bad I won't feel burned at that price and I can always buy the faceplate htc sells to use the vive controllers and tracking boxes and still be under $400.

Didn't mean to quote, my bad
>gave away my vive when I moved since I planned to buy the next gen index
>next gen is years away
I'm honestly just considering getting base stations + a Pimax or something.
>>396250873
It's why I got a Quest 2 as a side-grade to my Rift CV1. The shit I want in a headset isn't hitting consumer headsets any year soon, so I may as well at least enjoy current VR wirelessly.
Index Deckherd probably won't be seen until 2024 at the minimum.
>>396250873
If you got the rig to power it, the patience to tinker a bit, and the budget, the Pimax 8k X has been the best experience I've had across 8 different headsets. Clarity is only slightly below the non-Varjo clarity kings, the FoV is godlike and added so much for me in a bunch of games, and the colors, once properly dialed in, are still LCD colors but they feel high tier by LCD standards.
You really have to have some patience to set it up right, however. It's an enthusiast headset and the out of the box experience leaves some to be desired. If you got ultra-budget of literally 2000+, then I might wait for the 12k or get the 5kS if you still want FoV or high hz as a hold over. Far easier to drive, but image quality is somewhat below the Index, minus the glare. Or just buy the Quest 2 to tide you over to the next gen if you don't mind the Zucc. Even after the price hike, it's hard to beat in value. If you're outside the US, you can consider the Pico Neo for something better at a similar price, but then you're dealing with the CCP.
>>396251085
>so I may as well at least enjoy current VR wirelessly.
I'd have probably upgraded to an index if it weren't for that, I had a link before and I couldn't stand it not to mention constant problems. At this point it seems stupid to not wait everyone to unveil their new VR headsets in the fall, anyway
>>396252873
I figure anything announced in the fall would be well out of my budget range for a bit, so grabbing a Quest 2 a few months ago felt like a decent compromise for now. Was trying to hold out to see what a Quest Pro looked like, but after they announced Cambria was business focused I said fuck-it, since that means Index price range at minimum there, and I'd rather just an Index at that point.
>>395559617 (OP)
One of my OG vive lighthouses died and doesn't track anymore. Neither lens inside has broken off either, and looking at the lighthouse just greyscreens the vive. Controllers fly into infinity when infront of it too. Would it be better to replace it with 1 lighthouse, get a whole set for 300 bux or just say fuck it and get a quest2+pc connector? Not wasting 1k on vr parts again, I just want to shoot vr guns. The index and its cheap controllers aren't worth it to me.

Maybe too little fighting, too little action. You're too grounded down, unable to climb, unable to perform all of the other fun jank we have in every other VR game. I understand it's trying to emulate a slow survival horror, but god damn, being forced to go slow feels ten times as horrible in VR as it does in flat games. In Boneworks, you can nearly glitch physics and fly around the map like a madman, the only thing that restricts you is yourself and basic rules of physics, beats teleport-to-sprint any day of the week.
Still, no idea why you hate it so much. World looks and feels amazing, good old half-life stuff happening around, vortigaunt feeds you headcrabs, shit's cool. Also, you're just about to start this meme jeff episode, so better stay tuned and maybe push yourself a bit further.

>>396393569
It would have to calibrate correctly to your height for such a thing, so it knows your general standing height, and what a 'lean' should look relative to just simply angling your head while standing mostly straight up.
>>396394743
It already does that. The maximum height the headset moves to during the game sets your height. If you stand on something in real life you'll get taller until you leave the server. There was a video of the leaning posted on their discord server about 2 years ago.

I didn't consider it soulless, but it definitely was "Babby's first VR game" levels of interactions. The limited combat encounters in the first six hours (the AI really needs to be more offensive) didn't help either.

NFT wannabe esports
All you need to know about that game.
>>396594290
It had/has NFT pets that were briefly sold to gain additional funding. That was a clever use of the NFT bubble to milk some free cash but it would be naive to believe the developers when they say it won't return.
VAIL doesn't seem to be an outright scam but suspicion is completely justified because their business strategy doesn't seem to make sense; F2P in VR is very sound because you want the largest possible audience for f2p microtransactions but then being PCVR exclusive throws all that sense away. I assume they'll be aiming for PSVR2 as well but the esports heavy approach is still very niche between the two platforms. How are they going to have enough players let alone enough people spending money to keep the game alive?
The only way a VRFPS is going to be worth caring about is if it does Pavlov better. Ironically, it's not even hard because Pavlov is full of problems, but they insist on reinventing the wheel.
>>396600076
Still no idea why they did a whole (free) WW2 expansion instead of fixing some of the core problems.

I can't wait for Halotractors to return and I'm hoping that the controller logic will enable some sort of vehicles so we can get some func_vehicle jank going.
Honestly this is the most terrible VR game. Only has four arenas, one is just a circular boss room. Enemies die in one hit mainly my entire 5 hour play through. I haven’t seen anyone die once, even children. Their “Maiden in Black” isn’t even that cute.
>>396612649
Doesn't this game lack a playerbase these days?
>>396614176
It has Quest crossplay so I always see lobbies up, just squeaker filled ones.
>>396614293
Can't stand squeakers so that's a no-go. They didn't pull an Onward at the least when crossplay was added by nerfing the PC visuals I hope?
>>396615069
No, the PC version hasn't been downgraded and has some PC only maps even. I completely agree that a game with a squeaker infestation is a hard pass. Pavlov remains my favorite VR multiplayer game as it doesn't have Quest crossplay, making pubs somewhat less squeaker filled.
>>396615069
No, they actually did something pretty clever for custom maps where the game can load 2 versions of the same map, one for PC and one for Q2, which is a nice compromise and doesn't restrict the PC much.
However, this sometimes means the Q2 players have a legitimate edge because you might get shot while hiding in a bush that doesn't exist on the Q2 map and so they see you as standing in the open.
Hey guys, NA VTOL today is still happening, but it's going to be an hour or so late, hope to still see you when it starts.

>>396643526
Todays lobby didn't happen. It's usally 9pm EDT Thursday for NA. Wednesday 6pm UTC for EU
Less than an hour into Red Matter 2. I don't remember the first game starting off this slow (lot of waiting for dialogue to finish), so that's disappointing. It's definitely borrowing a fair bit from Alyx, with the same object grab mechanic, more scavenging the environment, and physical interactivity. Worst of all though it's borrowing a hacking minigame. On the surface the game doesn't seem gimped to run on Quest, but there are noticeable filler locks between areas which make it obvious there can only be so much loaded, and that makes the pace feel even slower
No shooting yet
>>396647106
Honestly, fuck Alyx.
I now understand H3VR
>>396648447
now play take and hold until you can no longer stomach the idea
Has anyone played either of the Red Matter games? Thoughts?
Pavlov worth it if I just play against bots?
>>396656162
The bots are pretty brain dead from what I remember. You might be able to play zombies solo and have some fun. Don't see why you'd play Pav over a single player game if you want to solo though.
>>396656162
Probably not. I think there's another shooter called Zero Caliber that is PvE focused, but I don't know how much content there is.
Pavlov worth it if I have a G2? No.
>>396641170
Altair Breaker, came out on Steam VR and Quest yesterday. From the devs of SoG. Most of the assets are ripped directly from it.
>>396594085

>>396614176
It manages about 1 lobby a month with /vrg/. That's about as much of it as I want to play as it lacks any depth.
>>396656635
nta but what other single player VR fpses are there though? All I can think of off the top of my head are Alyx, S&S, ItR, Battle Sister and Boneworks.
>>396657620
Isn't that kinda crap? I remember trying the tutorial and couldn't get past the throwing grenades part.
>>396667520
There's plenty of VR FPS games, you can google up a list. Another often mentioned game is H3VR. There are a lot of good flat convertions too, like Half-life 1 and Serious Sam
>>396648383
Nah, fuck everything else.
live
>>396667520
it's kinda crap yeah, but the campaign at least has a bunch of dumb enemies to shoot and the netcode isn't awful. firmly in the "fun with friends" category. you can occasionally get it for like $3 in some bundle, which is what it's worth.
>>396604383
The dev's philosophy is that new content gets players, but fixing bugs doesn't.
>>396694942
someone should tell him about player retention then

>>396704203

Wow that bundle is great. I paid more than that for VTOL or Dragon Fist alone. Radius' best sale price is also only a little lower than that.
>>396727807
Damn. Will it included Budget Cuts 1 as well. Only thing I own already is ItR. Doubt my GPU can handle VTOL. How do the rest stack up? ContractorS being in here just screams "dead game" if it's in a bundle since it's multiplayer focused iirc.
>>396732320
Will - Wished*
On that note, this is probably the first real VR bundle they've had. The rest were a bunch of gimmicky 2hr 'experiences' usually with only one actual game in the pack.
>>396732320
Contractors isn't dead.
Right now there are over 50 public lobbies with the full range of gamemodes being played, several of which are filled 16 player games. For peak time that's not super amazing compared to Pavlov but it's still far from the near death Contractors had prior to Quest 2 crossplay. The game is also getting regular updates like the new modding tools mentioned earlier in the thread.
>>396735717
>but it's still far from the near death Contractors had prior to Quest 2 crossplay
This almost sounds like a detriment if it means 90% of the lobbies are filled with squeakers.

Wasn't this months ago?
I just remembered something: binding the system buttons to in-game actions actually works now. I tried this many times in the past and it never did anything, but earlier this week I tried again and it actually worked.
You can have three face buttons on Index controllers now. I have:
A = magazine release
B = bolt release
system = change fire mode

Where the heck you trying to buy one from? Amazon.ca's been supplying Oculus' shit here since day 1.
That said you're fucked due to the USD$100 price raise actually being $150 here, which kinda kills the price appeal Quest 2 had.

There was an anon who bought the game. His first impression wasn't good.
I wonder what he thinks after playing more.
>>396751710
>>396752074
I took a break after unlocking the gun, no enemies yet. I don't hate it and wouldn't call it bad, but I am liking it much less than the first game. Even the story isn't as interesting to me, now that the main character has a voice and there's frequent dialogue between him and the woman in your ear. Apart from the boring hacking puzzles, level design has been pretty varied at least. I don't mind the occasional platforming and stealth, and some parts required a keen eye to find a way to proceed. Gunplay will likely stick out a lot worse though, as >>396751783 mentioned

Never heard of it, and I checked the Steam page. Shit looks real polished. How long we talking, and how's the puzzle difficulty/environment-interactivity?
>>396754158
It's not extremely polished (see my hand in this webm), but I played before the big patch dropped a few months ago--not sure how much that addressed. Length is around 11-13 hours. Puzzle difficulty varies, it feels like more of a traditional adventure game because you're switching between different environments, looking for the right items and trying to figure out what you're supposed to do. There are minor hints, though for the most part it doesn't hold your hand. It occasionally throws in more straight-forward set pieces too. As for interactivity, there's a lot
