Something similar happened to me with someone I knew for nine years. From personal experience and a grudge I still hold to this day, I'd say you're absolutely the asshole if they liked you, and you knew, but didn't address it until it was way too late. Especially if you started being cold to them because of their feelings for you and ignoring it hoping it goes away.
Nine years and "months and months" are a little different, but on my end the dude will be lucky if I ever forgive him for the emotional abuse I went through. But considering it's only been a few months for you, if no bridges were intentionally burned, then time will probably heal their wounds.
But either way, from my personal experience I'd say it's on you, and the onus is on you to bite the bullet and say you're sorry, and they have every right to decide what happens to your friendship at that moment.

Some time ago I posted about some particles not behaving correctly when using contacts to activate them. Basically the problem was that I'd slash through someone, have the particle trigger once and a sound go, then every other slash would trigger just the sound despite that being triggered in the same animation. Someone suggested to put on "always simulate" but that didn't help. I can say that I have now figured out the problem. Pic related if it's set to "destroy" will completely delete the particle system after it has played, preventing it from being played again as there is no particle system to toggle back on.

unity packages aren't 3d models like fbx files; they're more like .zip files that contain a bunch of things (usually including the fbx file)
