G2 reverb shines for like mid range simulator/modded games hdmi. VR porn not worth. It has really sharp screen so requires a good gpu but looks great. It's lightweight and fits comfortable. The trackers are subpar but I find them good enough, you can always buy index knuckles and base stations later if you really want precision tracking. It also has no hand tracking. When you buy one make sure you buy the G2 reverb V2 (its sold under the same name but if u buy directly from HP you'll get the newer version) the new version has a removable face gasket and a much better cable, it also has better tracking than V1. Basically theyre huge kikes and didnt rename the new product but just updated it and sold it under the same name so try buying directly from HP. I'd say its not great for vrchat as it has no finger tracking and the controllers are worse than the index or precision shooters like pavlov

What's the best way to lower vram usage? With vrchat running in the default home world, my vram usage is about 1gb, but if i go into a popular world, it jumps to 2gb and if i go into tha same world with people it fills up all 6gb and i start getting shitty fps. I have avatars limited to only showing the nearest 8 and my vram is still full.

I got an HP reverb G2, from the $300 sale earlier this week. It's not bad, coming from the Index. The resolution is indeed slightly better, as I type this from xsoverlay. Not amazingly better, but makes reading text more bearable. The sweet spot seems smaller though; text right at the center is great, but 30deg off it's already blurry. 2x supersampling on 3080ti works fine. 90hz refresh rate is kinda lame after years at 144hz. What's weirdest is that compared to the index the face gasket has almost zero nose gap; it blocks all but the tiniest sliver of irl. It made me realize how much I relied on it for incidental stuff like glancing at my keyboard or phone or just remembering where I am irl. The "flashlight" passthrough is kind of a neat gimmick but I wish they'd just project the entire image like index passthrough. The audio is identical to the index, at least the speakers are; haven't tried the mic yet. Besides the nose gap fit, I do like that the headset feels at least a few hundred grams lighter than the index too.

The controllers are bearable too, though heavy with 2 AAA a piece, or at least not weighted as well as the index controllers. I played some beat saber and they track okay but definitely not at expert+ level. What's worse than the controller is that every time I swung my hand up in my face the headset tracking itself jitters around as it loses the room somehow. I'm immune to motion sickness luckily, but it's noticeable.

Overall it's nice to have an alternative for doing overlay computing while reclined, and if my index ever kicks it. I doubt I'll use it for any actual VR games though.
