Share your most underrated VR game/experience thats almost never mentioned anywhere.

For me, its VR skiing. Ive played a basic mod demo as well as Powder VR, which is probably the most comprehensive option for it.
The feeling of presence is unbelievable, especially the first time you try it. Legit gives off some kind of vertigo, but in a way that works since you're supposed to be going down a hill. Also just fun in general once you get your legs under you and the controls translate very well in vr, even with just a headset and controllers.

I'm skeptical about VR games designed around activities relying on the lower body, but the thrill is likely still there

I'm the only person who has shilled and posted about this game for several years. Compared to other games in this first-person/third-person hybrid genre, it's the most challenging and also the most varied. I'm disappointed that the sequel they made is flat screen only

Looks interesting, shame it isnt more flexible to allow the importation or creation of your own tracks.
Having said that, i did a search and apparently someone already has a project with full dj equipment simulation.

Makes me realise how much VR content I miss out simply because google searching the best VR games just gives you the same repeated recommendations over and over again.

yeah, there's a lot of weird niche VR music stuff. I actually like the limitations of electronauts; it's somewhere between DJing and an (unscored) rhythm game. fun to play around in their premade tracks. if you do want more flexibility, I have tried/know about:

exa infinite instrument: nice build-your-own midi instrument with basic loop support. sadly dead development though.
synthspace: webm related, modular synthesizer. looked really nice but dead again.
synthVR: the other modular synth. less dead than synthspace and slightly more features , but still dead.
virtuoso vr: not dead (yet). haven't actually tried this one but it's basically exa but updated.
vinyl reality: olde school DJ simulator. played the demo, kind of neat, but I'm not that into DJing.
tribexr: new school DJ simulator. haven't actually tried it, mitebcool.
paradiddle vr: drum simulator. I haven't tried it, but I have played ragnarock the rhythm game and I've decided just don't like virtual drums that much. no elastic response makes it hard to do actual drumming.

oh neat, streamable hasn't deleted my exa video yet:
https://streamable.com/qr4ovm
I like the beat saber-like hit detection on the bars, and being able to play on both down and up strokes. it's something you can't do with physical instruments, and it works better than having to fake the elastic response of a real bar/drum.

also here's what electronauts is like https://streamable.com/iikk0h

Resize me. Currently still in development but it's free on Patreon and it has an incredible amount of content of 4-5 hours. It's giantess focused content but the experiences are really amazing even if you don't have a fetish for it. There's a lot of variety, the story is interesting, the character is waifu material and there's a lot of great attention to detail. It's far better than games like Vr kanojo which costs a lot of money and yet the experience is only 15 minutes.

It's Murphy's law for vr as far as I'm concerned. Something always needs an adjustment, a lens fogs up, something encounters a desktop popup, something doesn't work and needs restarting..etc
Like today it was, a foggy lens followed by my steering wheel somehow disabling headset audio because I plugged it in at the wrong time.
Or the other day it was pistol whip just not starting because some random update requires tinkering with vr dev settings to launch.

As much as people hate on Meta and love to shit on the price of the Meta Pro. I think the Meta Pro package is pretty ground breaking. Having face tracking + eye tracking in such a small package without making it look stupid is very nice. The lenses are groundbreaking, not because of the pancake lenses alone but how Meta designed them. They're completely clear without negative len side effects. You then have the controllers that offer base station level of tracking because they handle tracking on their own.

Picked up a Quest 2 for myself over Christmas. The technology has come quite a ways in 10 years. I've been having a good time with it, but he Quest library seems pretty small—handful of good titles, or at least titles I find interesting. Is it worth upgrading my graphics card to expand my accessible library to PC VR games? Cheapest cards I'm finding are around $400. I feel like I might as well gotten a cheap PC VR headset and a new card at this point.

To enjoy pcvr there is no need for high end graphic cards. I managed to get acceptable results from a 1060 3GB, but to not worry about performance, anything with 10GB vram is more than enough, unless you plan on joining the coomer crew with their unoptimized avatar circus

First try Sidequest - you can sideload a lot of games directly to Quest 2. Things like Doom 3 are really great. If there's nothing interesting there then go and try pcvr. Steam has alot of games totally worth it. Alyx, Half-Life 2, Skyrim and more. Also PCVR has better graphics, so playing is even more fun.

vrkshop is kinda fits this for me. its cool on principle. being able to make stuff by using traditional processes ported to VR. but the reality of unity physics and some unfortunate choices by the dev make it pretty painful to actually make stuff. For example things just bounce around if you touch something wrong. One last thing thats unfoturente is that my headset is way to heavy to be looking down all the time. If anything this is a cool example of how detailed certain things can be for VR and how they could work.
Anonymous No.413771243

Compared to a Quest 2 there aren't really any great options for a cheap PCVR headset unless you're a racing or flight simmer.
Rifts are long out of production and warranty
WMR has worse controller tracking and is a lower priority for developers
Original Vive is a resolution downgrade and comes with shitty controllers
Anything else is more expensive or you risk buying used

Yeah, but the sign language you can learn is an adaptation of it specifically for VR. So you'll be able to talk to other people/mutes who also use VR signs, but you will probably not be able to follow everything an IRL signer might do. Remember to turn off your face gestures when you're signing unless you want to look like you're having a stroke

From the previews I've seen from YouTubers, it's apparently as good or better than a Varjo aero visually but with better vertical fov. >VIVE XR Elite
Meh, for pure VR use all it has going for it is light weight, swappable headstraps and face/eye tracking upgrades. Specs aren't impressive, price certainly isn't, HTC don't have a good history with inside out tracking and the included headstraps don't look all that comfortable for long sessions.
>Somnium VR1 (it's not new but they proved it's not dead)
Open source and customizable sounds nice on paper but Somnium Space is blockchain NFT bullshit and I'm not convinced that Prusa backing means much for viability. It's not like we haven't seen plenty of other stationary demos for panels and lenses.
>Pimax Crystal
Visuals sound good but I fully expect the Pimax experience with complicated software that requires a lot of user effort and multiple hardware revisions that fix problems the launch version shouldn't have. They have no confidence in their inside-out tracking all we have for lighthouse integration are claims of a $200 addon. There always seems to be a catch with Pimax.

the market doesnt want wired, period. VR has two ways to go, growth, appealing to the mass that hasnt high expectations when it comes to quality of visuals but wants ease of access or a small niche of stagnating enthusiasts willing to sacrifice ease of access for higher visual quality. Dont worry there is always going to be somebody selling your niche high priced prototypes using you as beta testers.

Bluetooth is shit.

I do like wired more simply because wireless is going to be lossy encoding with high resolution VR. But wireless is going to be the mainstream way to go, so you better get used to it and hope there's some enthusiast brand will keep display port for 120+hz at 4k per eye. The delay shouldn't be that bad anymore in a good headset though, it's just going to be gimped in the quality it can provide.

Honestly, excited for the Pimax Crystal. I was really skeptical during the roadshow as impressions were mixed, general consensus was amazing visual shit everything else, but CES impressions have been way better and seems like they even fixed the inside out tracking to be good. The lighthouse addon even works flawlessly, apparently.

Still want them to fucking deliver on the eye tracking and wireless, however. Those not having any demonstrations or videos yet is worrying.

Quite positive overall. For specific impressions, hate to bring up the fucking youtubers but the only easy to find people who've tried it multiple times to compare with vs last month's demos, but in general they say the experience is a lot better. Shill/Thrillseeker said it could be his next headset if the software doesn't suck. Bradly hated the thing before, aside from the screens, last time he tried it but was really positive this time, at least on twitter, and even said the inside out tracking was close enough to the Quest 2 to be fine for gaming. And then a few other people echoed the sentiment. Battery life on the controllers is a more respectable 5 hours now too, headset seems to last a while as well.

One common complain I see is that, for some people, the focal distance is kind of off. Things up close are super sharp and great, but stuff a bit further away seems blurrier than it should be, which is weird because that problem was reported in the early demos last month and then Pimax fixed it, but now it's back again for some fucking reason. How good the inside out tracking is also seems not quite agreed on. Brad had the most positive comments I saw, where as I see more people saying it's fine and should work for gaming, but isn't fantastic. At least you can use the SteamVR plate if the tracking sucks shit though.

Kind of regret it now. I had no skills besides looking up Unity guides but I still think i could have cashed in on the novelty sales even if it took me 2-3 years to release some simple pos room scale arcade.
Back then Valve and Oculus were already funding some devs. But Oculus/Meta were still throwing cash at people and giving free advertising to meme indie titles all the way up to 2022. With enough social media spam, that could have been me getting zuckerbucks for spare rope.

Alright, so turns out they actually quietly downgraded it.

https://web.archive.org/web/20221116103133/https://pimax.com/crystal/

Because if you look here from less than a month and a half ago, at the bottom when they list all the parts, it has 12GB of RAM+2 kinds of storage. Furthermore, there was a part list taken from the Chinese net where Pimax submitted the Crystal to get approved over there, pic related and apologize for the low res the full image 404'd so I had to settle for a preview of it. But to save you sifting through some gook speak, the part number was 2130P, which has LPDDR5 RAM, and 12GB of LPDDR5 is the same configuration that the Quest Pro has for its XR2. While the Quest 2 only has 6GB of LPDDR4X. Check that yourself if you want, I've spoonfed enough.

https://pimax.com/crystal/

But checking now, it can be seen that it's only 8GB of RAM+256GB. Which is still more than the Quest 2 and configurations do exist which have 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM.

So, we're both wrong, unless Pimax is lying through their teeth. It's not the exact same chip as the Quest 2, some extra RAM that's also a fair bit quicker. But it's not the configuration I thought it was either.

So Pimax Crystal confirmed shipping first 200 units end of the month and around march if you order today. Faceplate a bit later.
Anyone here planning to get it?

Im not in the market right now, but looking at all the options it would be the most tempting purchase for a high end PCVR today. Their QA and jank leaves a lot to be desired however. Its hard to be confident in a product when they're still fixing basic issues right up to the launch window.

Why would you ever preorder A VR headset? Sounds like the most stupid thing ever.

The only headset I'd ever preorder is a non-standalone one from Valve.

Which given Valve's hardware and QC issues also probably isn't a good idea, but it's at least justifiable because they have a decent customer service track record.

Honestly it reminded me a lot of spacechem and magnum opus. Magnum opus had support for custom levels where you could define inputs and outputs. Would be pretty rad to be able to do that in clockwinder. Especially if there was workshop support or some method for sharing them.

Not the "journos" fault. Discord is the dead of information. Those devs who actively use it as the primary communication tool shouldn't be surprised nobody knows or cares about their shit beside a handfull of tranny cocksuckers

True. Look at what the dark web actually is; it's all non-googleable information. Discords cannot be searched through without being in the discord, and even then searching sucks. I've been complaining about this too; discord being just an information black hole. Like in 20 or so years when people try to find fixes and information about old games or tech, instead of the meme being that it's an old forum post with the solution sent in DM it's just going to be: join our discord (discord dead). But due to how much information is locked away in discords it's going to be a black hole, some kind of dark age where nothing was recorded even though it was in the middle of the information age.

It looks promising, but you should really wait for some actual reviews to get the finished, shipped product before making any decisions. Maybe they'll fix some of the problems or maybe they'll take forever to get everything working with how down to the last minute they are with working on it.

Discord is shit and like all closed containment rooms that have little to no contact to the exterior it devolves always into circle jerks that don't produce anything of value. I wouldn't worry too much about lost information, as if it gets posted in a discord it didn't had much value to begin with.
I see it more from a marketing perspective. Devs and other "creatives" may love being able to build their own little fiefdom of cocksuckers and imagine themselves growing their army of sycophants the more "popular" they believe they become, but at the end of the day the 50 cocksuckers telling you how great your shit is to get some goodies or "roles" to feel important have little to no reason to grow because it means more cocksucking competition, therefore the product developed with "da community" is a) going to be shit only appealing to 50 cocksuckers and b) unknown to anyone else

It's unfortunately a Quest game first and foremost so modding interest is likely to be limited, but it'd be awesome were it to happen. But the other thing is that I think there just need to be more gameplay elements. Obvious unexplored opportunities to me include being able to determine the placement of the stick stations and having to work around barriers because there's like one room in the entire game where bookshelves block line of sight. I think it'd be incredibly cool to be able to lay out your own production line.

>try RE2 VR mod cause its supposedly good
>wrestle with the settings to make it work
>it feels jank, cant afford to have fun shooting everything, randomly go into third person sometimes, keep getting thrown into cutscenes after any tiny bit of progress

Does this shit get better or is the whole game like this?
Whats genuinely the most well made, comprehensive and enjoyable desktop-to-VR mod that isnt the Half Life franchise or Skyrim?

I assume its pic related we're talking about.
Some people dont mind that style but its not my cup of tea. Part of the hype around RE was having a more AAA graphical experience.
Looking around there dont seem to be too many other good mods with full body tracking so I might just stick to RE2 and try and get used to the interruptions.

hmm, i guess it is sort of low poly, but its' definitlely not those grating unity asset packs you see everywhere. OW has textures and foliage. reminds me of psychonauts.

RE7 and RE8 work much better in VR due to being native first person, rather than a third person game modded to be first. There's still some jank in menu navigation and non-manual reloading, but I found them pretty good.
