Since we have the feels bar this week we might have to move Drunk Pavlov around this week. Please vote for the best time for you. And reply with any maps you may want to see or even ones we should take out because they suck like vertigo.

just because it doesn't use its own store, account, and shit camera tracking doesn't mean people looking for a small headset don't want it
(((business))) people want a headset that won't mess up their fancy haircut, and this delivers
I bet it'd render that fancy car model on a PC a billion times better than a shitty XR2 chip with a slight upgrade and a fan blowing at it
and considering Vive already had a large business-facing market with their "Pro" headsets and "Office" overpriced versions, this is an easy swap-in for anyone who bought into that shit
>>418696353
I might be interested as an index upgrade (though I already have the qpro) but I'm real concerned about the ghosting issue

I honestly don't see who in their right mind would ever get a q2 pro considering it really doesn't do anything better than the q2 besides costing way more
>>418697051
>I don't want one unless it turns out the FOV is actually higher than they're claiming right now for some reason.
That does seem to be intentional, for whatever reason. Every reviewer has said it's about the same FoV as Quest 2, including shill who apparently measured it in his video

the foam should make it so that you get the optimal viewing experience regardless of face shape, as opposed to a generic hmd like q2
that said, I would expect the numbers given to be pretty close to what you'd expect to get out of it
tiny 1inch screens will only give you so much FOV

>>418696353
I preordered one. I feel like the design tradeoffs they made are overall worth it for me. Coming from the (relatively) svelte rift CV1 and the fat index, it'll be nice to have a really lightweight headset with oled again, even if I also have to go back to 2017-era FOV and refresh rate. I think what I will miss most will be the index off-ear headphones. Hopefully their stereo microphone is up to snuff. I actually like they're doing the custom face gasket too, even if having to go borrow an applel product is kind of gay. If you're paying that much for niche hardware that goes on your body, getting it actually tailored instead of generic (or having fiddly adjustable bits) sounds good to me.
>>418697756
>>418697776
now give it tits
>>418697291
>That does seem to be intentional, for whatever reason
With variance in the headset size and foam size, I guess they just wanted to play it overly safe. Q2 FoV would be a slight downgrade, but if nothing else good comes out before this, it'll be tempting. Definitely not pre-ordering one though.

>>418690584 (Cross-thread)
Seems that my wireless adapter is a rare one that works. I've replaced the battery cable and hmd cable. I do get grey outs maybe once per session (5h). I even have 4 monitor setup with little issues. The only things that bother me is the greyouts (ofc), and compression in dark environments and the weight of the hmd(1200g). Once after a firmware update, something happened to the compression and the image was extremely clear. After restarting it went back to the compression. It can handle no or better compression but resets. Is there away to adjust that? I see "SetwirelessBitRate.exe" in the ConnectionUtility but I cant seem to do anything with it.
What is better, inside-out tracking or base station tracking?
Why do you think Facebook is so far behind the competition?
>>418700292
each has their pros, overall basestation will give a beter experience 90% of the times however metashit's move to have controllers tracking themselves removes most of the occlusion issues
>>418700316
There's no money in VR right now and the little consumer base that wants VR are enthusiasts that have no interest in Facebook/Meta products.
>>418700292
base stations are inside-out; the devices that use their lasers calculate their positions based on the lasers that the device's diodes receive (at least three hits iirc)

>>418734931
I need a headset that has base stations instead of cameras
>>418742740
8GB of VRAM with a Quest 2 is pretty low because the encoding/streaming takes a little more VRAM.
Don't upscale as much and limit your download size to 25-30MB. Occasionally check people's avatars and hide those above 150MB VRAM usage.
>>418742848
Fuuck. I wish I knew before I bought this thing.
>>418742740
Limiting avatar download size in your performance settings stops most of the niggas that use up like 200+ megabytes of VRAM
If you see an avatar with a grabpass (so if you see glasses with refraction on them for example), hide it. That shit takes a bunch of VRAM too which doesn't show up in the performance stats.
>>418734931
Yes. The tracking, SDE, resolution, and build quality is bad, while having absurd CPU and USB demands.
>>418734931
The CV1 was amazing. Good tracking. Not as good as lighthouses, but still more than sufficient and better than inside-out. Cheap as fuck.
Good overlay that was ahead of its time. The SteamVR overlay and the input bindings menus look like a sad incompetent joke compared to it. Cheap controllers and replacements too, you could get two controllers AND a third sensor for $110. Decent specs like resolution. Adjustable IPD. No facebook requirement. Access to Oculus exclusives (even though exclusives are super gay). Rudimentary finger tracking, years before the Index existed. Control sticks and two top buttons, instead of touchpads. SWAPPABLE AA BATTERIES so you never had to go offline or cope with powerbanks if your controllers ran out. Comfortable controllers. Good customer service. Decent headphones that were easy to remove if you desired. Only issue is the mic going bad after a bit and the headphones dying rather quick.
And all that for like $350 instead of the expensive dogshit we have now. Of course they just had to kill it for an inferior alternative like the Rift S.
gm /vrg/
>>418748315
>old thing good, new thing bad
You're ignoring or downplaying all the issues that were just as bad as current headsets, if not worse. You probably don't even know that through 2016 and half of 2017 there was a huge problem with the screen turning permanently red and the tracking was so bad that you were essentially forced to use both sensors 90 degrees apart and never turn around.
>>418748315
>coping with powerbanks
what the fuck does this even mean?
>>418749363
He means having to plug the controllers in instead of being able to swap the battery. That in itself was a problem because AA batteries aren't actually a standard size, so you'd either get brownouts when swinging the controller, and/or find the battery difficult to remove without damaging it. It was common to 'cope' by jamming foil and other things in the spring or compartment. The covers would partially slide off a lot in actual games because they were only magnetic.
If the Rift were released now, it would be shit on relentlessly, but it is remembered fondly because it was the first headset of many and allowed easy gestures in VRchat.
>>418749658
only quest controllers have brownout problems and it's not a battery size issue, its the choice of cheaper weaker springs that compress too much under motion.
>>418749971
It was also a Rift issue. Here' a Redditnigger thread about some of the solutions:

>>418749285
I'm not saying new thing bad, I'm saying the CV1 was an upgrade over the Rift S and especially 4-5 years ago, it was worth the money more so than the Index is today.
I never had issues with the tracking and I had my sensors literally just both on my desk facing my play area.
In comparison, setting up the 1.0 base stations back then was a massive pain and it took weeks for me to figure out a setup that didn't make me lose tracking all the time.
My CV1 controllers still worked after 3 years, I'm currently on my third set of Index controllers.
>>418751964
>My CV1 controllers still worked after 3 years, I'm currently on my third set of Index controllers.
And what is the headset held together with? Unless you never use it, it's going to need string, tape, cable ties, etc. like: >>418735638 after a few months.
>>418752406
After 3 years I think the most I needed was a small clip to keep the cable in place. I used my headset almost daily, but basically never for more than 3 hours a day.
>>418752494
I doubt you haven't had to fix the right side of the strap disconnecting the headphone wires in that time.
>>418751159
Parlor should be easy accesible, secrets - good. Cardboard and proper tables could be 50:50 imho. Add big "no lewding" sign in front of the parlor (implying that degens can go fuck themselves on the dirty alley floor)
>>418752643
Oh right, the headphones broke pretty quickly and I had to fix that a few times over the years. I think they first broke after like 3 months of using them.
In the end I got moved into a very loud neighbors situation (couple moved in next-door and they were mutually domestically violent), so I ditched the attached headphones and started wearing noise canceling headphones over them instead. The mic also degraded into near-incoherency over the years when compared to a modmic or the Index mic.
That's one of the main reasons why I got an Index, but I will forever miss the swappable AA batteries.
>>418750813
funny
>>418752650
I mean, you are not supposed to lewd when someone hosts mahjong to begin with...
Are there any lightweight power banks that you'd recommend for wireless headsets ? Something that doesn't get in the way even for physical games like boxing or Beat Saber. At the moment I can play 2 hours with my headset on a full charge, it'd be great if I could extend that by 1h30 or more.
>>418752406
My CV1 controllers won't stop drifting to the point where I have to blow into my joysticks nearly every two minutes so I don't float off. Also, my gestures no longer work so I have to keep them off or else my hands not doing anything will show a finger-point expression, or a peace sign.
Does anyone have a fix for the hand gestures freaking the fuck out? It's getting on my nerves.

I think it's time for new controllers or a different headset. It sounds like the finger tracking is busted and the sticks are drifting. The CV1's are even harder to DIY repair than the Index controllers since it's all glued together so don't even bother.
>>418753050
Yeah, it's about time I get a new one, my controllers are getting pretty crusty and shit anyway. I do have another set of controllers but the battery inside has been run completely flat on the left controller. I've tried nearly every fix to pretty much no avail.
I gotta get a new headset when I rake some money together, a temporary fix would do for now if there is anything I can even do.
>>418752975
One of the capacitors is short circuited so it thinks you're always touching something with your thumb. You could try WD-40 around all the buttons and joystick.
>>418753359
I'll get to that now actually, I'll give it a shot and test it in VR to see if there's any (if much) change. Thanks anon.
CV1 is nice and all until your cable is busted. I am still on my first set of Index knuckles btw

Thoughts on something like this ? Would be easily reuseable if I changed headsets too. Obviously won't provide a lot of extended playtime but 3h total is fine by me.

PSVR2 reviews are coming out.
I don't understand what people are expecting from the PSVR2? It's still just a console-tethered headset. To me it is LESS useful than a fucking quest while being significantly more expensive.
Seriously, what incredible breakthrough or technology are you expecting from it? A locked down headset on a locked down system that has a handful of titles?
>>418759848
It's VR-related so some enthusiasts are interested in it.
Personally I don't give a rat's ass about anything PSVR or Quest related, it's just more chance for these piece of shit companies to jew PC users out of games by making them exclusives.

It's the first option that isn't either severely limited in some way or requires significant investment in a high end PC. $500 for an existing PS5 owner is a significantly lesser barrier to entry compared to the $1500 or more they'd have to spend to try PCVR. It will also increase developer willingness to make VR games. If it is successful, then the effects won't be isolated to the Playstation ecosystem forever. VR needs to break out of the:
>lack of players because lack of games because lack of players
problem somehow, and this may help.
>>418761429

Absolutely blind.

Did the success of the NES in the late 80s revitalise the video games industry or create a Nintendo monopoly?
>>418762009
Probably both tbqh, overall I think we got good games out of it but that must have been a dark time for gamers having Sega's stuff so far in the background.
>>418762009
You are actually fucking retarded. Enjoy your PSVR2.
>>418762009
The Genesis and Dreamcast are definitely consoles that existed at some point. Not very popular and games were sparse, with most of the good titles being made by the people that made the hardware to begin with.
Wait a sec this is starting to sound familiar.
I think the main difference is that Nintendo wasn't going around snatching up promising titles or budding developers and reel them into exclusivity like what Facebook and Sony have been doing.
At least the PC releases of Sony titles over the past years give me a glimmer of hope that primarily PSVR-oriented games will come to PCVR too. And if the PSVR2 is any good then they might actually be real games and not gimped lazy ports like the pieces of shit behind Hitman 3 or Skyrim/Fallout.

>>418762158
>>418762550
What is your alternative? Another PCVR headset that changes nothing?
>>418762896
We need good PCVR games
The hardware is chugging along slowly but what we really need is games
These AAA developer cunts need to stop shitting out bad ports of existing games and then blaming the lack of interest in VR as to why their shitty port failed. If Hitman 3 VR was any good and not instantly abandoned, if Skyrim VR was good out of the box, if Borderlands 2 VR was good, if PAYDAY 2 VR was good and if Serious Sam VR wasn't $90 for all the games I feel like we would be a lot further along. And maybe if more smaller developers jumped on the VR train. Full native VR support for Deep Rock Galactic (and not some janky vaporware mod) and stuff like that.
The only good big name VR game is Half-Life Alyx and even that is babby's first VR game with how slow-paced and scripted it is. Arguably most people who own PC headsets are just playing VRChat nowadays.
The hardware is hardly the issue here, it's the games. And a PSVR2 will not help get more games on PC. The PSVR2 library will just be shitty 2-hour gimmick games like the crap you find on the Oculus store, or cut-down "VR" versions of big names like what happened with Prey Typhon Hunter or Doom VFR.
VR boomers like Anton aren't helping either, constantly shitting on every VR experiment like No Man's Sky, claiming that PC's and players "can't handle" anything more substantial than a laggy unoptimized shooting range simulator.
>>418763503
Payday 2 VR is good.
GTFO VR is good
Skyrim VR(modded to hell and back) is good
Dead Effect 2 VR port is good.
They are not native games with muh charge handle pull good. But is on par or better then earlier VR games like Raw Data.
>>418763503
It's both. As I said, it costs $1500 to play VRchat, Pavlov, and Beat Saber ad nauseam. No-one outside of enthusiasts will pay that. Developers haven't been able to take any kind of risk in over a decade and making games for such a niche platform is a huge risk that won't pay off when they can just make the same shit as last year again. Short of hundreds of mommy's basement devs appearing out of nowhere and making a ton of games, it won't change.

VR doesn't need some hit game. It doesn't AAA corporate committees. It doesn't need a horde of poor, crayon-eating normies. All we'll get is content for the lowest common denominator. All games will only have a head and pair of hands because the poors can't afford trackers. All games will be designed for teleportation because half of everyone gets VR sick.
The normies must be purged. VR needs enthusiasts. VR needs creators, modders, hackers building on previous work, standing on shoulders of giants to create something larger. Making a VR game should be as easy as downloading a prefab and then editing stuff. That way we can have games that take full advantage of VR. Because it'll be just that easy. VRChat provides a taste of this. It's the hit product. In VRC, you can buy trackers for your limbs, torso, and even for your mouth, buy the beefiest computer and best headset and see what it's like to game with 4000€. The users are building the content, hacking together worlds and avatars. Every other VR game fails to excite me. I want my legs. I want to see my friends in their avatars.
But I have an issue with VRChat. It's shit for actual gameplay. You can't even make a good Among Us gamemode in VRC. Udon is a lame duck. VRC is too walled-off. You can't really program much. We need a better virtual environment. For now, I'd be happy to just play board games in my avatar and to see my friends in theirs, but all the games in VRC are janky as hell, limited with what you can do, and you need to go to a dedicated world to play them. There's no reason I shouldn't be able to just download a chess set to my world. There's no reason to have to fumble around trying to hit a button or grab an object where the selection latches on to something completely random. Like, Jesus, just playing Mahjong, it's like pulling teeth!
>>418769726

Yeah, maybe. I'm sure someone could think of a trivial counter-example, but that's not the point. They just rolled out EAC. Everything's ultimately hosted on their servers. There's still so far we could go.
>>418774525
Not really, it just happens to be the most popular and most polished/usable VR game of its kind right now. That sort of structure that makes it easy to get into and just play.
Neos has MUCH more freedom but the game sucks to play and sucks to develop with.

CVR at least has props so you can just drop a chess table anywhere, but CVR lacks players, lacks polish and lacks world scripting.

Amogus in VRC exists but it's very easily broken and was apparently really hard to develop within the constraints of Udon, particularly getting the networking to play nicely. As it stands, the VRChat networking still has massive delays and it makes realtime games nearly nonviable. You may notice that the most popular and most fun Udon games or minigames are all either turn-based, or games where a whole second of delay doesn't matter. Enter a Pvp world and you will find yourself rounding a corner and then dropping dead from a bullet that was fired over a second ago.
>udon 2 literally ditches the node shit
Cool, does that mean in 2-3 years' time we will finally be able to use basic C# concepts like Lists? Will networking be less obtuse? Will the performance impact of simple calculations be less awful?
Udon puts VRC ahead of the competition but it's a buggy and awful mess with almost no documentation on how anything works.
"Lame duck" sounds about right.
>>418768027
>>418768165
>>418768959
I did try it out. It's okay. It sounds a bit robotic still but as another anon said, it's very very clear compared to other voice changers. It actually does change some of the qualities of your voice beyond pitching up and down.
It also is pretty much real time, there's a 100-150ms delay. It may actually be a little faster than my old voice changer. I was in the pre-alpha for this and the previous version sounded a lot worse and was too much of a resource hog to use with VR. This version I was able to use in a crowded and unoptimized map and it worked pretty well.
I think that it needs a few more voices and more options but that it has a pretty good chance of being pretty decent on future releases.
>>418773773
>Making a VR game should be as easy as downloading a prefab and then editing stuff.
Not going to be the case anytime soon. We just don't have enough processing power yet.
Basically, right now vr has two major problems (or one because they are closely related),
1. proper vr development requires insane amount of competence.
2. people with that much competence expect to be compensated (aka they dont want to starve). There are not enough people who are willing to pay, and even then, the devs with such set of skills can earn 10x amount of money for half the effort doing non-vr stuff, which leaves us with enthusiast who are driven by passion. And there are just not enough of them.

Just like physbones and contacts, right? Or the UI update that would allow world creators to put their own menus in your quick menu? how long has it been since they promised that? how long has the UI rework been out?
>no documentation
Half the shit in Udon isn't documented, especially when it comes to networking or the way interactions actually work. Everything is hidden away inside inner circle discords where a few autists figure this shit out and share it with the rest of the inner circle.
There is 1 article in the official docs that gives a basic overview of how networking works, but it does not talk about any of the newer features or which specific methods/noodles to use.
then you try to make something clever and get the big fat error "Not exposed in Udon".
You can't even make a simple UdonSharp script that allows you to toggle a list of arbitrary components on/off because that shit isn't exposed. It only works if you specify the component type manually.
So if you want to toggle 5 mesh renderer and 6 collider components on interaction with a button, you have to make a separate array for mesh renderers and then separate ones for each of the specific collider types you intend to toggle.
the amount of times i have had to use animations to control a specific property on an object because "hurr this property isn't exposed" is astounding too.

Just use an array lol
>>418775324
I put in a bunch of samples of different voices and the output sounds exactly the same. It looks like it converts your speech to TTS then outputs it again.
>>418777238
That's not a list
Also have you tried sorting an array in Udon before, it's downright painful (and also ultra slow)
I had to defer the sorting to only run every minute because it literally causes a lagspike trying to sort 60 integers
>>418777569
I heard it yesterday and it does seem to copy speech mannerisms so I doubt it's TTS, it's just hyper aggressive in changing the voice.
>>418777698
A list would be even slower then.
It's crap, it sounds like trash. Please don't use it, don't use any voice changers, none of them sound good, you do not sound like a girl and you especially don't sound like your latest anime crush.
>>418777863
The point is that it's only slow because we have to manually implement quicksort in an incredibly slow VM that makes even basic operations super slow. Any kind of LINQ sort methods are not exposed and coupled with the slowness of Udon it becomes downright painful.
If we had to manually implement LINQ it would be slow too, the point is that we don't really have access to C# or anything that's super useful.
>>418775338
>We just don't have enough processing power yet
This isn't a processing power issue. It's an issue of closed source and having to reinvent the wheel every time.
>proper vr development requires insane amount of competence
Because you have to start from scratch every time, down to implementing the VR. A game dev shouldn't have to worry about avatars, trackers, or IK or any low-level stuff. They should be freed to work on game objects where the controls and colliders on the player's side are already figured out. If I want to make a game about shooting ducks, I would only have to develop the gun shooting when triggered and then the ducks being shot. I shouldn't have to program anything VR related.
>>418777569
I don't think it does exactly that because you can still hear accents, inflection, cadence through it. I don't think it's TTS because it preserves some of the qualities of the original voice.
If you want to hear it, just track me down at pypy or this weekend and I'll say some stuff using it for you.

You are loved and your illness is making you hurt your loved ones and yourself.
>>418780747
That hasn't been a required part of making a game in decades. Even engine devs use libraries for that.
>>418780547
So basically we need more and better libraries. I think some might already exist but it's definitely not easy, and you also have to cope with different controller types.
This is basically the same shit we had to deal with back in the day before DInput and XInput, and even then we had to support both of those so that was more boilerplate. Unity just doesn't provide a lot of standardized shit out of the box yet.
The problem is that controllers are weird and different and not everything has a main button, like the shitty vive wands

>>418781287
You are strawmaning, but you don't need to write everything in asm. Compilers are decent enough for 95% of the code. Only using non-retarded parts of c++ and inline asm when necessary is all you need.
>>418781616
>You are strawmaning
Correct. I do this because I find it funny to do so. But it doesn't mean I'm entirely wrong.
India and StackOverflow have been disasterous for the software industry. People are writing code they do not fucking understand and being paid to do so, entirely off the backs of other people's work.
You know what I learned in? Locomotive BASIC. If I didn't know how to do something I had to figure it the fuck out, not go ask someone else for their solution and just hammer it into my code until it barely worked. So yeah, when I see the state of modern software people saying "Oh we just need more, bigger, libraries" I cringe fucking hard. Can't help it.
>>418781149
>we need more and better libraries
XR Interaction Toolkit is attempting to become that, but it isn't lightweight or extensible at all. Maybe it will get there eventually.
>The problem is that controllers are weird and different and not everything has a main button, like the shitty vive wands
OpenXR already solved that. Every controller has at least: two buttons, a trigger, a grip, and an analog stick. You don't need to make control sets for every controller imaginable.
>>418782012
>two buttons
vivewand moment (can still manage with positional analog stick click)
>>418781978
I don't think the UnityEngine.Input.GetKeyDown() method is comparable to copying other people's code desu.
>>418782416
NTA, but what a way to miss the point completely.
>>418782312
In the words of the Boneworks devs: get a real controller, you're missing AT LEAST an entire top-face button, and compared to the Index also a stick or a touchpad.
Not saying that the index touchpad is at all comfortable to use (especially if games try to use left/right on it or if you have to click it), but it's there.
>>418782312
Vive wand is the exception and it only lacks the primary button. I don't think there's any other controller that won't simply work as intended.
>>418782012
>OpenXR already solved that. Every controller has at least: two buttons
Both of which are stolen by system UI 100% of the time.

You can write all basic input code in a weekend easily. EASILY.
Stop being intimidated by lines of code, you monkey. It's doing very simple stuff, it's just explicit.
You retards are so fucking entitled, you don't even need to write your own renderer or physics engine. "ewwwww, is that 100 lines of code to process input???!!! SAVE ME NIGGER MAN!"
Pathetic.

I then thought that programming it was cheating so I learnt to play drums for real. I then thought using bought drums was cheating so I learnt to make my own. I then thought that using pre-made skins was cheating so I killed a goat and skinned it. I then thought that that was cheating too, so I grew my own goat from a baby goat. I also think that is cheating but I'm not sure where to go from here. I haven't made any music lately, what with the goat farming and all.

Ideally coding should just be drag n drop, no actual knowledge of anything behind that system required.
You want the ball to bounce? You drag the BOUNCE box onto the BALL box, now the ball bounces.
That's the end-game of coding right there.
It sucks having to write your own stuff for basic functionality, but if you're a decent programmer you should be able to just eat the time loss and write a small wrapper for it yourself. Just write that button handling, get it working well and then make it so you never have to touch that part of the code again. Do that a few times and you'll be able to get to the meat of your funny little game.
Bonus points for finding an example implementation of said boilerplate in either Valve's SDK's or online in a documentation/unity forum/stack overflow. Not everything needs to be a spoonfed NuGet package when you're making a small hobby project. No investors or clients riding your ass about getting it done within a short time.
>>418784248
Don't even need to know how to program to tell that's a terrible idea. Stuff like that is how you end up with absolute shit performance
>>418784248
You can basically do that in Unreal Engine.
Has anyone here 3d printed and painted their avatar? Tempted to do it
>>418784373
>>418784401
Hi, I'd like to introduce you two posts to eachother.
Now step back and realise that anon above has been right all along and UE games look good but run and play like shit for that very reason.
Writing code using libraries you don't understand is how society works; you use stuff you don't understand every day. Homes, roads, electronic devices, sewage, logistics, finance, etc. When you ue your credit card you don't expect to know the details of every single piece of infrastructure that goes into making that transaction, plus all the financial operations and laws that underpin it, you just use the functionality.
>>418784159
You know there is a middle ground between soldering transistors yourself and pressing "create game now, do it fast, and dont ask me anything" in unity, right?
Why are so insistent on refusing to learn? You life is worthless, you cannot spend time in a better way anyway.
>>418784248
Impossible until you have unlimited amount of processing power. Just like you cannot go faster than speed of light, you just have to deal with it.
>>418784270
>It sucks having to write your own stuff for basic functionality
You only have to do it once. After that you just reuse your own code. It doesn't go stale, you know. It doesn't really suck. Every competent programmer should have a library of his own code which he can just reuse.
The difference is, you understand every single line of it, because you wrote it yourself.
>Why does everything crash all the fucking time, why is nothing easy, why does basic software run like absolute ass even compared to my computer two decades ago this makes no sense
Takes a breath
>Anyway, you don't need to understand what's IN the libraries to use them :^)
>>418784724
Otherwise, you get TempleOS.
>>418773773
I wish people would share more stuff, particularly for VRC. Made a minigolf game? Release the fucking prefab so we can all make more courses.
That's what makes Unity so great, there's a ton of assets to integrate or learn from. Gmod was the same, I learned Lua by modifying and expanding on other people's work until I could create my own more complex stuff from scratch.
>>418784724
>How to Bring the Collapse of Civilization 101.
>>418784902
TempleOS doesn't need a networking stack because the only thing you need to network with is god
>>418784902
We need more TempleOS though. God we desperately need more TempleOS.
>>418784976
You mean how to build a civilization, idiot. Go on, tell me the intricate details of how farming and agriculture works.
Assuming of course you eat food that other people made for you.
>>418784829
>You know there is a middle ground
Your placement of this is arbitrary. For you, C++ is fine but anything anyone has created beyond that is unacceptable. Terry A Davis would consider you a nigger for using C++, but you can't explain objectively why he is wrong any more than you can explain why creating your own rendering is absolutely essential.
>>418784829
>The difference is, you understand every single line of it, because you wrote it yourself.
You did understand it at some point in time, but generally that'll be hard 10 years later, unless you are meticulous with your documentation.
I imagine reading complex old code is almost like reading someone else's code. Because the you of the past is basically that.
>>418785143
If I were doing farming and agriculture I would know everything about it.
It's just not my area of expertise.
You are suggesting that fundamental knowledge is not needed even for your own area of expertise. And that bring the collapse of civilization exactly when stuff built by people who actually knew what they were doing stops working and new people are too incompetent to fix it.
If you don't even see the problem, you are the real idiot here.

And yet the "faster" computer is taking longer to perform a very basic action.
>>418785481
The intricacies of the windows and linux kernel are not my expertise but I rely on their syscalls to do even basic operations. Then people build libraries on that to perform more advanced operations, like networking. Then that is built on to drive HTTP, and so on and so forth.
Petrochemicals, metallurgy, engineering, bioscience, genetic manipulation, etc etc all go into a simple bit of agriculture, and I just build on that by buying bread. (Sometimes I buy flour)

Programming is all about processing data. If you just explain the main insight briefly, you can reverse engineer your own code.
And if you don't use the code for 10 years, is it really useful?
>>418785186
Code is just a tool to access the processing power of your computer.
Everything built upon it is a tradeoff between performance and ease of use.
I'm not a fetishist, I don't jerk-off to C++ or asm, I just used to them after using them extensively.
>more than you can explain why creating your own rendering is absolutely essential.

Fundamental misconception. Advancement is predicated on being able to use knowledge that already exists, not tools.
>Refusing to use an existing game engine
The 3rd party engine paradox is that they require more knowledge to use properly (fundamentals + engine specific knowledge), not less.
Existing language are basically useless for everyone who actually needs them. Developers who can make good games with unity/unreal, can easily write their own engine even better.
Only useful for insanely big studios who want to be able to hire random shmecks from the street and don't waste time teaching them about the inhouse engine.

It's just that it's odd to me when you see people using very girly or slutty avatars act like voice changers are weird it's something that makes me raise my eyebrow a bit. It's really not that different from using an avatar and on top of that AI and how quickly it's advancing is an interesting topic.

In the future you'll be able to use AI as a middleware layer between your actual actions and your avatar's motions to enable more realistic feminine motions and stances, combined with AI powered voice changers and custom defined AI made avatars we're in for a real treat my sisters.

Are you using oculus airlink? Try virtual desktop from the oculus store, its far better, far more settings to change and customize for performance, and you can check what is your actual bottleneck in the graphs (network, gpu, cpu)
I've got a lower powered CPU and GPU than that anon and i'm not seeing issues using my Q2 with airlink, I'm not disputing that it's not the best but I don't think it's the cause of his problem

DCS has really bad VR performance. Not sure about War Thunder, but I wouldn't be surprised to find Raceroom does too since I've had issues with some other sims.

If you're just looking for free stuff to make sure it's not an issue with your setup, you could try The Lab or the VR mod for Half-Life 2.
The original Assetto Corsa runs better in VR than most other sims I've tried (iRacing, RF2, ACC). Dirt Rally 2 also works pretty well too if you're fine with running rally.
Not sure you really have any options other than VTOL VR for flight stuff, and that's probably simplified more than you'd like.
Only option besides getting a better card for DCS is turning settings way down. MSFS has even worse VR performance from what I've heard, so I doubt it'd be any better.

surely a 7600x is plenty fast
there is only a handful of CPUs in the world that outperform it in single core
as for the GPU, sure, that would be great, if it wasnt because 4060 is going to be a 8gb 128 bit bus 800$ card
gpu choices are absolutely terrible right now
and besides, a 2060 super from EVGA surely should be able to power most of this crap considering it gets sub 8ms frametimes in Alyx on ultra settings.
it just doesnt make sense to me why im getting 30 fps in war thunder and 20 in DCS?
And while i get 20-30 in raceroom, it feels even worse than that
I saw that apparently OpenXR and OpenComposite are highly recommended apps, but i can't seem to get them to work.
I can't tell if OpenComposite is actually working. I'm enabling OpenXR in it like im supposed to, and launching through steam, but i dont see any difference.
I have yet to be able to make the OpenXR toolkit work, to enable foveated rendering and all that, yet.

>>418830230
>I don't think I can justify blowing a grand on VR.
WMR and Quest 2 are the budget options. Index is ultimately the best choice but an HP Reverb G2 will be a nice taste of VR
By the time that headset is worn out and broken, you'll have already upgraded to an index if you stick around.
>>418830516
Oh I meant to remove the Vive, I had borrowed one from a friend in like 2019 so it's the only thing I can compare the others to.
I had an HTC phone in like 2008 and it was AIDs so I'm not a fan of the brand.
Leaning toward Index, but I don't have any interest in WMR, is the Index still better than the HP in terms of hardware?
Train map was fun boys
Shame the ride back didn't work out for some reason, fuckin moonrunes didn't help either
>>418831538
>>418831423
overall yes
it not being abandonware is a big positive
Microsoft is basically out of the VR game and won't be supporting WMR at all afaik
reverb g2 has better res/display than the Index but the Index can go upt o 144hz instead of having the higher res
audio on index is also great, as is the mic; reverb g2 piggy-backed off of the Index's audio for a reason
investing in an index now means you can upgrade down the road to a newer steamvr hmd as they come out and not have to replace the controllers/base stations you bought initially
>>418830123
okay :3
>>418831337

>>418832962

Max 15 constraints recomended.

>>418833381
150 mb * 80 avatars is 12 Gigs of VRAM + render buffers + windows + the world itself. 24 gigs becomes is the minimum for full instance at 150 mb per avatar, and most people have 8-12 Gigs of VRAM.

Funny ragdolls or clones/copies
Interesting IK setups that allow you to make objects move in different ways than usual, or only trigger animations for certain people locally
Using them as drivers for remote-controlled shit like the VRCLens drone
At best this will make people just shuffle the performance costs elsewhere by abusing configurable joints where they can
>>418835272
dont need 15
>>418834928
Yeah, it's VRChat. Basically VRChat has a system that automatically classifies your avatar into a "performance ranking" based on a few statistics, so that people can automatically show or hide certain avatars based on how performant they are. This is necessary even with high-tier hardware.
This announcement is that VRAM usage statistics, which were previously not accounted for and were widely complained about, are now incorporated into the performance rankings. So certain types of massive-sized texture usage is now penalized, per say.
>>418835330
You may be surprised how quickly that stuff adds up

Ask the people you want to show the thing to turn off performance blocking for you. It's Crazy, i know, but it works! Then you can show them!
Unless...you don't actually have cool ideas you want to make, and just want wacky stuff to get attention...
>>418835014

I kinda wish they had separate stats for local only things and those everyone can see. So we can utilize a lot of local things for our ourposes for logic or motion etc. While still not lagging others

Gentlemen the time has come and so have I. NA Exploration is up at https://vrch.at/yszhxv0t or request onASleepySnow. Gonna drop a caffeine pill and some ibuprofen then we ball out of control per usual til I get bored or the caffeine wears off. We ride.
>>418837471
i'd join but i got a headyache and all i got is low dose aspirin :(
Why are you all so fucking sickly and ill all the time?
>>418837673
i ate nothing but smoked salmon and cheese curds yesterday so now my head hurties.
>>418837878
No that shouldn't make your head hurt. It'll make your farts funny but you should be feeling fine.
You're not one of those "Ooooh I can't have dairy" yanks are you?
>>418837973
it's the smoked salmon. ate literally nothing but loads of it and a few cheese curds and forgot to drink more water to compensate. The salt intake was dehydrating more than usual, and Tyramine in smoked fish is scientifically linked to migranes.
>>418837673
my body can barely handle the strain of VR
>>418838209
No, it's linked to being a little fucking faggot. Jesus christ you fragile cunts frustrate me.
How many "meds" are you on every day for illnesses you don't really have? Fuck you.
ooh anon all tough and strong because he's not suffering from illnesses
>>418838398
None? I just have a headache because I ate too much salted smoked fish yesterday and didn't drink enough water, so now my head hurts today, and I can't deal with it SPECIFICALLY because I don't have over the counter pain medication to deal with headaches in my home.
>>418832962

tranny Poiyomi and Tupper the gaslighter strikes again. literally this means nothing to the average VRC player. They're only doing this so trannies at their special events don't lag when there's a lot of people. as evidence in pic related. if only they took this kind of action against tranny groomers and pedos, but that would be attacking people at their special events and the dev team.

You can hide on download size. While it's easily possible to make a large download avatar that doesn't use much vram or vis versa, 85% of the time for a normal avatar, the download size directly correlates with vram usage. Simply because their import settings contain a lot of high res textures.
>>418854295

Face unlock even on flagship phones like the Pixel 7 Pro are just using a 2D camera and even warns you that it's easy to defeat. It also doesn't unlock everything, so you have to enter a PIN, password, or use a more secure method of biometrics to unlock payments or whatever. The Pixel 4 had a real IR camera but they didn't use it for anything other than unlocking the phone.
