There's the UEVR or vr essentials modpack on wabbajack which covers basically all the essentials and some more.
at the bare minimum you NEED:
- Unofficial patches, both basegame and VR
- Skyrim script extender VR
- Any alternate start mod, Alternate Start live another life works with some minor tweaks but the author is a whiny bitch about the VR version and removed VR-compatible builds on purpose.
- MageVR
- VRIK
- HIGGS
- Spellsiphon (this one is a fucking gamechanger)
The skyrimvr subreddit has a recommended modlist as well

The vanilla intro sequence will most likely break if you don't use an alternate start mod. Realms of Lorkhan is much more open and welcoming for the VR version of the game but overall I find this a worse and kinda goofy experience.

Looks good. Though in my experience, I'll say to remove those wires and bite the bullet and spend a little more on some off of Amazon.
The ones from China arrive like 2 weeks after everything else does, and then you'll have issues where the wire straight up breaks off at the solder point. In addition, having everything color coordinated helps a lot, so I'd recommend getting a multi-color pack.
I have no experience buying the batteries from aliexpress either, I ordered mine off of Amazon since the batteries from China were usually pretty low on amphours (I ended up with 12ah which lasts me about 13.5 hours for about 25usd)

I think the real reason is that Standard is very outdated by now and offers no handling for worlds with only baked lights.
In that sense Rero Standard will be an improvement already, but Filamented would be even better. It's an improved PBR shader based on Google's filament work.
Lack of light probes and reflection probes is the world author's fault, but in every other way it's pretty clear Standard was made nearly a decade ago. We've come a long way since then.

You can blame bad shaders like UTS and liltoon for that one.
World brightness should always be tested around Standard, but the "looking flat" thing that the other anon was talking about is basically just the fault of Standard for having half its features not be usable without a realtime light.
Then again, being able to guess the baked light direction is kind-of black magic to shader authors and is not widely known about outside of the VRChat ecosystem, so I don't necessarily fault them for it.

Yeah it's the the nature of how VR stuff works, either option is going to be processing things and they have to say what and what they do with it. That being said meta absolutely harvests data harder than anyone else, and the nature of inside-out tracking allows for more aggressive harvesting in general. You should still make your own informed decisions. It's worth remembering though that if you do something as seemingly benign as own a modern smartphone you're probably already being unavoidable data harvest to hell and back anyways, so spicing it up with something like a headset really won't add all that much.
