I run an Index with a 1070 without any real issues. The only thing I have to do is set it to only display the nearest 10 to 15 avatars instead of the entire sim in VRchat, but for normal games, I can play everything perfectly fine at good settings. Most PCVR games aren't that challenging graphics wise since they also want to have a Quest compatible version even if that one is further downgraded.

The reasoning is that with cutout, it uses dithered transparency because it's cheaper and it blends like normal and can even look cool if you're using AA. Fade and transparent work normally but also don't sort layers so you could get some weird issues with normals. Silent's tries to balance performance into everything so keep that in mind.

There's a way using old console commands and putting your headset into direct display mode at the same resolution of the original vive. It's long been buggy, broken, feels bad to use and will make you puke.
Worse yet it's a pain to find information about because VR hypefags have taken over the search results for 'TF2' and 'VR' with their Contractors videos.

The Contractors mod somewhat scratches that itch and it's still actively being developed. The problem is that it has the layer of rough jank that you'd expect from such a drastic converstion mod with balance problems because they're still slowly working their way through the classes and features.

Thousands and thousands of people use it for this purpose, it's extremely good for that.
Avatar RP groups like the meat rack and such now have avatar dynamics and health bars and all sorts of things for avatar combat.

there's also groups running vampire the masqurade and other larp systems like cyberpunk and such. VRChat is basically the most immersive mmorpg when you use it like this, it's just that players have to keep track.

But that's not true anymore with the kind of persistence that Virtual Market demonstrated this year. You could run a fully automated multi-day system with leveling with persistence and stats and everything in vrchat now.
Recreating a full on RPG system that stores your stats across multiple worlds and allows you to assign traits and give you weapons and etc etc is all possible, even random drops and dungeon looting.

I expect 20% faster CPU performance in populated lobbies in VRChat.

30-40 people lobbies are GPU limited at Vive Pro 2/Bigscreen Beyond resolutions on 5800x3d and 3080. If you subsample you can get stable 90 FPS. Complicated worlds and 80 people (good/excellent) lobbies are very GPU limited, but 5800x3d is not fast enough, you can't reach 90 fps by subsampling, but you can have 40-50 frames if you subsample. 7800x3d will help a little bit.
