Welcome back racer!
EU Assetto Corsa: European Racing club, season 8!
Race 54.
18:00 UTC 20:00 CET, Monday 7th of August.
Commieblock racing! Tuned Ladas in Belgrade!
This legendary race, held on the streets of Belgrade since late 1960s, in the park on the confluence of two mighty rivers, has always been a high point in the calendar for it's prestige.. The "Monaco" of Yugoslavia. The track is tight and features high curbs and fast corners..
The track is infamous for it's danger. Barely allowed by FIA, safety levels were questionable and criticized throughout almost all the races held, which culminated in 2005 after unfortunate events, eventually kicking it off from the calendar for almost ten years.
1 hour practice
12 minutes qualifiers
15 lap race
After race: celebrating italian automotoindustry in Targa Florio!
For communication we'll use mumble at voice.vrg.party port 64738, as it doesn't need any registrations or logins.

Class mechanics seems to be 1:1. Only missing the Spy and the only weird thing I've found so far are medics healing you feels like getting blasted with bullets instead of the soothing healing beam sounds.
You get multiple weapon choices for class loadouts but I'm a classic fag so I don't really use them. I've only seen payload maps so far. Not sure if there's 5cp ones but the PL ones work very well. Push kart, get ammo and healed. All of that works. It really feels like playing the original game.

H3VR's gun handling is some of the worst jank. The decision to implement things like safeties is fucking retarded on most firearms that you'd never visually check but instead check via tactile feeling of it's position. The lack of a virtual stock is also completely retarded in a game that sells itself about gun autism. Unironically Pavlov's gun handling is far better and I enjoy shooting on the target range there far more then H3 even with it's much more limited choice of weapons, which actually doesn't matter since there's no functional difference between the fifty billion AK/AR variants in H3.
>>441021224
The 'tactile safety' problem can be resolved by using a different sound for each fire mode. Contractors used to use low/med/high pitched click for single, burst, and auto. It does have virtual stock, by the way.
>>441021554
I was unable to find it in the settings last time I played, but I could be retarded. I do stand by H3's gun handling being some of the worst in VR FPS games that have anything resembling an audience, though. Pumping a shotgun or working the bolt both just don't feel smooth as they should, and reloading anything that's not magazine fed is a clusterfuck of having to stare at it to make sure the shell goes into the gun fully. The inventory system is also terrible, and Take and Hold is less of a challenge of shooting properly then it is of avoiding running out of bullets because your inventory space is so heavily limited and mags are as expensive as a new gun, which is a shame since I'd love a good procedural Rogue-like FPS.
>>441022601
>I'd love a good procedural Rogue-like FPS.

>>440995517 (Cross-thread)
if you find it let me know
i've given up
>people told me this is better than Alyx
You've got to be joking. I love flat HL2 but the game isn't balanced for VR and has a ton of anti-fun VR mechanics like trying to jump on pieces of wood floating in the water. That was already borderline unfun in flat but in VR all those platforming puzzles are just a pain in the ass. Good mod, just not better than the original, or Alyx. Not meant to be a VR game
>>441038546
People say that because it has less "babymode 2018 VR" mechanics. HL2 is a solid shooter by itself and the VR version is just a port of that.
Some of the platforming in VR can go fuck itself, but HL2VR is more engaging than Alyx. Alyx is fun and definitely works better in VR, but it suffers from slow movement, slow combat with too few enemies, and too much "scripting" behind the scenes.
Like ammo spawns being tailored to always give you the ammo you're the lowest on (and not spawning when you have more than a certain amount), or your very last bullet somehow always conveniently juust killing that one last enemy, creating a false sense of ammo scarcity when there actually is none.
HL Alyx was tailored to be an "experience" more than a classic game.
>>441034353
Be careful about ones with multiple charging ports. Often they'll be advertised at a particular wattage (you need to look for one that can handle your headset, cheap cell phone ones often don't) but split it across all outputs and a single output won't provide the full amount even with nothing else plugged in.
>>441039057
>Like ammo spawns being tailored to always give you the ammo you're the lowest on
Bro did we play the same mod? The director dropped health like at 10x the normal rate of the flat mode one.
>>441021224
filtered
>>441039057
>suffers from slow movement, slow combat
Suffers? At the speeds I'm going in HL2 VR I have very little immersion left, and I'm standing up. Alyx is immersive because it's slower paced and everything feels more grounded.
>>441037076
>that tiny play space
>>441039057
>very last bullet somehow always conveniently juust killing that one last enemy, creating a false sense of ammo scarcity when there actually is none
Bullshit, I ran out of ammo many times in Alyx. It probably spawns somewhere in the level if you're at zero, but that's still a challenge during a firefight, you're acting as if someone goes BOOKER CATCH and gives you free ammo to save your ass
>>441012095

I was talking about HL Alyx having scripted ammo spawns, maybe I didn't make that clear enough
The VR mod for Half-Life 2 shouldn't change anything about ammo drops, they didn't really change anything about the core game mechanics. HL2 has always had ammo be rather plentiful especially if you just look around and explore side areas a bit. Enemies are spongier on higher difficulties which eats up more ammo, maybe you played the VR version on Normal but flat on Hard?
>>441040453
It only really matters during a firefight, you usually get almost all your ammo back directly afterwards. The levels have tons of spawn points for ammo and these are dynamically adjusted depending on how much you currently have.
Try using only the handgun for instance, you will almost never find shotgun or rifle ammo as long as those 2 guns are above a certain threshold.
>>441040453
There's fuckton of ammo spawns on the map and the map director in alyx will remove them depending on your current reserves. I don't think I've held more 9 shotgun shells at a time.
It's such shit design.
>>441040702
I was aware you were talking about alyx and I was making the comparison that the director defiantly was different between flat and vr. Maybe i gotta go do a side by side comparison now.

Just set the centre of every mesh to 0,0,0 and then the extents to 1,1,1. Having every mesh have the exact same bounding box means nothing phases out of reality from the corner of the eye or weird shit like that.
I also advise setting your anchor points a little higher in some cases. I usually have mine at the spine, but for a model like yours, that might be the chest. Since that's all set in the same tab.

Download Content Manager, it's an alternative launcher to assetto simulation module. From that, just mix and match whatever you find appealing online, mods are usually drag and drop basic folder structures. If you'll want traffic though, you might need to join one of online servers that run traffic bot cars.
From nice maps to cruise around on, I'd recommend Lake Louise, Matsugadake, C2 loop, mandatory Akina.

You guys are cool thanks heaps.
Anyone got any experience with building a Sim race cockpit? I'm thinking just throwing some timber together with an old office chair, seems straightforward enough, thought I'd ask if anyone's got any tips
>>441066686
kind of bad to ask here, the people who play the VR race sims say shit like "either buy a full racing cockpit with full FFB or don't play the game at all"
>>441066686
Wheels need to be properly mounted to a desk, same with the shifter. Going full cockpit is a bit of a meme but if it's what you're going for you might as well. VR is kind of enough to make up for the difference though.
>>441066686
cockpit, as in recreation of car's interior, or do you just mean seat with a mounting points for wheel and pedals?
most people just slap it on desk and put something underneath the office chair wheels to lock them in place
>>441066993
>full ffb
every wheel except for literal $30 toys has full ffb, not sure what you're even trying to say
>>441066686
I know someone here built their own rig and stuck a chair in it, supposedly works fine. As long as it's sturdy enough to mount your wheel to without it moving around that should be fine.
>>441066993
You don't need a cockpit, but most sims don't control well without a wheel that has FFB.It's way more important than VR for sims.
>>441047107
Richards Burns Rally is amazing on VR, and its suspension simulation is better than Assetto by far, also constant online events so you don't fall for the hotlap meme

I meant the seat itself with ffb, dipwad.

Also worth mentioning the racing sim bundle going on right now. It's not worth it if you only want Assetto Ultimate Edition, but if any of the other games interest you it's worth a shot.

Sadly the room doesn't have any music so you may want to have your own music in the background. Just make sure if you're playing you can hear everything clearly.

On a tangential note, are there any good VR RPGs that can give me a similar experience to the new Baldur's Gate so I can ignore my friends talking about it? Think lots of content, big story, different builds, unique companions with their own stories, creative solutions to solve quests and explore rather than it being a mindless hack and slash, and no GAAS or mandatory online shit. I just want an big RPG adventure like that but not on a flat screen.

>>441096341
No. I use mine for some standalone games. But the latency sucks and is finnicky. I can't hit any of the notes in Beat Saber or Ragnarock. And yes I do play those with my friends and I'm not rebuying them when I already have the Steam versions. The compression sucks too. It makes all of the fog in Into The Radius look really bad. The drift with FBT is awful too. My legs are always offset from where they are, so it always looks like I'm tilting my hip and that can change when I turn around.

Quiz show night was...decent. Even though Kamen Rider blew everyone out of the water we had fun. I burnt through a lot of my trivia questions so I'll need to add more for future games for sure.
>Got enough questions for next time?
Honestly no, not unless I recycle stuff from this session. If you think you might be interested in helping me come up with some, lemme know. Balancing question difficulty can be tricky but I tried to keep a general consistent difficulty with questions from all media. Of course the better you are at general trivia knowledge the better you'll do.
>How well did people answer questions?
Video game stuff was hit or miss depending on the player. TV stuff was mostly ruled over by Kamen Rider. Anime was surprisingly hard for most players. We need a dedicated /a/ nerd to represent the weeb trivia I think. Kamen Rider was mostly good for Gundam and Dragon Ball. Reploidsham was pretty good with various vidya stuff, particularly Metroid Trivia. Cowtits and Pomfwall tried, but I don't think they could keep up with Kamen Rider.
Everyone had a good time I think. That's always good. Even if you could only stay for a few questions, thanks for stopping by. I may try again for next Saturday, but we may have to use the generic questions that come with the world. They're okay, but they wouldn't focus on vidya, anime, and TV stuff of course.

You mean normalshitters denied their usual outlets crawl here to infest this place with normalfaggotry, pushing out lots of the marvel, magic and enthusiasts that are needed to maintain VR and now they move back to their usual watering holes now that meatspace is open again, leaving VR a shriveled corpse.
>>441091070
For me, ironically, it's the lack of chaos-causing newfags. They're fun to watch, like a wild animal foraging for nuts or berries or something. Seems like everyone I meet on vrc isn't necessarily an oldfag, but they've been playing vrchat long enough to be disillusioned by the "game" side of it and they're just there to have an excuse to drink. Doesn't help that most of my old friends either stopped playing or hang out exclusively in private lobbies.
>>441144323
I felt this, but I realized I was insulating myself from all the actual interesting things going on here
Instead of going into the main meetup instances and talk to the newfags, I insulated myself in smaller side instances talking to the same small friend group for years on end and then wondered why it wasn't as interesting anymore.
Nowadays I make more of an effort to attend events, talk to the newfags, visit different timezones occasionally, all that stuff

Shit's getting old after some time. You enjoy a certain activity, then winds change and something else gets popular, then you're not joining something because it's not your thing, then you get out of the loop, eventually you're no longer hyped for it, fear of missing out is gone, there's very little reason to jump in. As social as it is, VRC is still just a game, a hobby, hardly a serious lifelong commitment. You like it, you join it, and one day, you get bored of it.
>>441091070
I never made it into any of the groups that formed so it was a continual battle to find anyone to interact with and I eventually just lost the will to keep trying.
>>441138687
2017-2023. Sure, old times good times, I obviously feel various very romantic feelings towards my early days of VR, but that's just the beauty of exploring a new thing.
We're still in a very pleasant experimental era, wild west of the platform. Small, fun games like ItR or Ghosts of Tabor pop up every now and then and make you happy (instead of being instantly overshadowed by latest ubisoft copypasted AAA big mac: the game), DIY expansions and peripherals are still a huge topic, you're constantly surprised by results of users' creativity, even if it's low quality. VRC is only starting to be even remotely user-friendly, first proper mainstream assets/marketing platform of Booth only became a properly big thing couple years ago, and VRC still requires you to install unity editor just to have your own avatar. Corporations are not yet here, mainstream lowest common denominator is still far away from considering VR as something appealing.
I can see how *good old times* were better, but thinking forward, I feel like we're not even near the turn for the worse.

I think the rose tinted glasses are fascinating from a thread perspective. I wasn't around until fairly recently following this thread the last year and change but I spent several days archive diving until I eventually made it back into the first few dozen threads. Things get very hazy once you go below around thread 16 or 17 because you fucks suck ass at linking and numbering but regardless there were people being fags on like month one. Having slowly read through probably close to 100 full threads from various points in time as well as gathering opinions from and chatting with people, the only conclusion I've ever really been able to draw is that nobody really seems to agree on when things went to shit or if they ever really did. Best I can tell the numerical explosion and cultural divergence from a more cohesive group into a more fractured clique based system happened some time around the beginning of covid which I suppose isn't very surprising with the peak of sentiment being somewhere around 20/21 when the index was still fresh and lockdowns were starting and everyone was just playing all day. When I've got time at some point I plan on creating a proper pastebin with every link to every thread by number if possible though I've been busy with other stuff. Currently the only archive I'm aware of with a /vg/ mirror is archived.moe with the rest being dead now and indexing is turned off which is a pain. It's definitely amusing to read that far back though even if it's only a few years, would recommend. Finding schizo shit was fun and 'vr is dying edition" was the op on thread 16. Thanks for reading my gay blogpost with no linebreaks I'm just a bit autistic with thread histories with a natural hostility to linebreaks and coherent paragraph formatting.

>Doesn't really matter, the environments are large so it's a pain in the ass to walk around slowly
That's ADHD. You are exerting no effort. It literally is more immersive to traverse the environment slowly, until we have good omni treadmills that actually represent your footsteps 1:1 and aren't just doing a fucky feet to joystick conversion, if you want immersion you have to make do.
>there's a bunch of chase sequences, not sure how that would even work.
You sprint on chase sequences. The sprint speed in HL2 isn't far-fetched at all, you only sprint a little faster than Alyx running kind of fast but not sprinting.
>death to immersionfags
immersion is the entire reason this whole space exists, there is literally no point to VR if not for immersion
>>441164580
also meant for >>441162653 so my mistake
>>441164183
>two controllers with full six degree of freedom around you is "just a lightgun"
When you remove all the immersion stuff from the shooter, what is there left except for a lightgun game? The faster you move, the less of your own body movement you need to use, at that point you're not physically looking from behind corners, not peeking from below cover, you're just zooming around at hyperspeeds, crouching and jumping and strafing with nothing but buttons because that's the fastest way to do it and it's a fast paced game. At that point, what are you using in VR except for the lightgun? May I suggest Metroid Prime trilogy on Wii, great lightgun shooters, you'll enjoy them. None of that immersion stuff, yuck
Got a quest pro. Does this have any use for eye tracking outside of vrchat and foveated rendering? Can I use it to interact with the menus or anything like that?
Also does vrchat support foveated rendering?
>>441164580
>no point to VR if not for immersion

I did do that in Gmod. One of the first things I did when I got into vr back in 2018 was install Gmod vr mod to recreate this, but I liked vrc better.
I like the exploring experience better in vr in both cases.
Most worlds don't really have interactable objects so I'm not really sure about that point.
>>441166726
Oh yes, VRChat is so damn immersive, with its teleports everywhere, the fact every nice avatar has legs so long that if I touch the floor I'm still only down to my avatar's knees, the fact that none of the grabbable objects in any world have any weight to them and my hands don't even conform to the object, every instance being filled with people whose avatars bring me down to sub 40 fps, no tactile feedback on any user-made vehicles or anything and all-around unity jank really make VRChat the most immersive VR experience out there.
Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the little time I spend in VRChat for the social aspect and looking at myself doing poses in the mirror, but if I want actual immersion I know I'm much better off hopping on any of the VR shooters.

Personally I find that the first hour or two my brain has to re-adjust and the longer I'm in vr especially vrc my brain eventually goes into a kind of resonance and the immersion goes up a lot. It's kinda like driving a car I guess, eventually it all just kinda clicked and started feeling natural. I think it was around the time that I stopped trying to convince myself that the physics of it all had to be 1:1 identical be it assetto/vrc/pistol whip/ect and eventually it just feels like you're piloting a vessel more than playing a game if that makes sense.

I miss the games, there were lots of VR games being played.
>>441091070
I still get on a good bit but a lot of what I liked about VR and vrchat is that there was a lot of creativity and events always going on. It feels like a lot of that has faded. On top of that, a lot of my creativity has faded because I've done a lot of the things I wanted to do.
It doesn't help that everything is so late now. I'll fall asleep half way through the meetup.
>>441176617
Having near infinite free time killed my motivation to do anything and discipline to continue what I started. Even now it's only just starting to recover.
Any good vr games for cardio or strength training?
>>441178914
>Cardio
Beat Saber or Ragnarock, but you have to be mindful to actually swing your arms and not just your wrists. There's also fitness Beat Saber maps that have you doing squats and shit.
No clue about strength training, though. I don't think there's any that do work with weights or even body weight reps.
>>441178914
You can get some good cardio at pypy dance in vrchat. Which is tonight at 10 EST if you wanna come!

Some of the more intense rhythm game stuff can be decent for cardio. Thrill of the Fight was okay for that too.

Why do people still believe having too many tris ruins performance? Why don't people understand the major issue are all the meshes, shaders, blendshapes, and many other things are the problem?
>>441193191
Having too many tris can still be a performance issue if you haven't handled your shapekeys correctly.
I won't trust someone who isn't optimized in any other way to have set their shape keys up properly.
>>441193191
because it does. Skinned meshes are not free, especially with blendshapes. You can have milions of polygons if it's a non skinned mesh. Even more if it's a static non skinned mesh

I thought getting into VR would help with social retardation and make it easy to make new genuine friends but it's even worse than real life so far.
Met a few people so far, had wonderful times with group activities and multiple 1 on 1 conversations/evenings. Ecstatic about jumping the gap and friending them to organize game lobbies, events or just hang out.
End up either ignored or they're simply not available anywhere to contact. It's like this is all no-strings attached and I've been taken for a fool. I don't know how to cope with it but I'm absolutely devastated inside.

I've been trying to get better at social interactions and being friends but not doing so good. I like to listen to people and what they're doing or working on but I often get told I'm "boring with no interests or personality, but good listener".
I'm not sure how to be better at having a personality. I have a bunch of hobbies and interests but whenever I tried to talk about them, people tend to act dismissive or appear not interested. I don't mind since it's fairly unpopular hobbies and I don't like 3d modelling or erp, so talking about my avatar or flirting with people isn't something I'm personally into.
Also, I know I'm being autistic, trying to get better.

>>441211279
There's really not that much else to do but find the people you'd resonate with and stick with them for a long enough time.
Personally for me I tend to add people who hang around me and my friends a lot for a consistent enough time like in the sea exploration.
All you need is an initial spark and the same consistent login schedule. Go through a few people and see if you find someone you engage with amongst the many. Then narrow in on the few or even one who you resonate with most and login at the time they usually login. Do this consistently and you'll be surprised you now have made a friend.

You also have to remember that people here and in VRC in general meet tons of people per week (if they have hours in) and to separate yourself from the noise of casual interaction / acquaintanceship is actually pushing the conversation to show you're interested in learning more about them and taking the imitative to join on peoples Friends+ instances and just hanging out.
You don't have to have hours long deep conversations constantly to be friends with someone in VRC, just chat it up, enjoy someones company, add them as a friend and swing by their instance to say hi whenever you feel like talking to them. Just taking the imitative to reach out to someone shows you aren't just another person in an instance that said 3 words to them. I've learned this the last few months of hanging out in instances.

This has got to be a weird skill issue or something 90% of this general lives in discord and as you integrate you get invited to all the random friendcords. It's the same with the rest of vrc as well, there are hundreds of random medium to small groups mostly centered around discords. There a few people off the top of my head who both avoid discord and don't interact much outside of inside vrc but they're in the extreme minority as much as we'd collectively pretend that's not the case.
There is a workout instance on CVR as well apparently

People leave and new frens come in. Things change but that's just life. I try to shake things up every time I get on but I've noticed that I no longer get on VR everyday.
I should really make memes more though.
the crowd****
I got no sleep last night
>>441217217
This is good advice. I think a lot of people coming in don't realize that vrc is a bit of a social hyperbolic time chamber. You can get more socializing done in a night then you could in an aggressively active 7 days irl easily. Similarly you can easily get a month of socializing done in a week, and so on. The extreme fluidity of being able to constantly be moving between groups, people, and activities with no barrier aside from just booting up and strapping in means you're cutting out a lot of the prerequisite of spending time planning, driving, getting food, cleaning up to prepare, and observing other standard pieces of social conduct. The result is a hyper accelerated social experience where in one night you could interact with sometimes hundreds of people in a night.
>>441237854
I'm actually impressed. I would FOMO too hard.
>>441238556
The newfag FOMO is pretty normal. Most people just get taken under the wing of one of the shadow leaders and they drag them around to social functions until they've got enough people added and half know how to navigate. Just the nature of the beast with how large this place is unless you've got the balls to go in cock blazing and are actually socially functional enough to just have fun without initial babysitting.

I don't like it. For me it devalues most of the interaction you get because of the sheer volume you can pick from.
I've always been a bit of a loner, but with the advent of the internet, it was extremely easy even for social stunted people like me to make friends. Even simply sharing a hobby was enough to make strong friendships in a few hours of interaction because the mindset was different then.
I'm not saying it's ultimately a good or bad thing but for me it's absolutely alienating. I can only care about small amount of people at the same time and it feels truly horrible when you think some interactions are going well and you might have made a new friend, for the realization to hit and it's simply someone interacting the same with every strangers. Personally I'm giving on VRC even with /vrg/ because it's simply too big.
>>441241142
Regardless of how big it is, it's not /that/ big. You eventually start seeing the same faces over and over again.
>>441241142
If you liked someone, show up in their instances. People in vrchat are used to the quiet autists who just nod and silently participate, if you just hang around people won't ignore you.

If there are more than 10 people in a room, I start to get claustrophobic and retreat to a less populated part of the world if it's available if I don't outright just leave the world. My ideal group size is 2 to 3 people chilling and gaming. If there are more people than that, I prefer the venue to be a public speaking thing where I'm in the audience or am the speaker.
>>441091070
its because vrchat blows ass
it was funny for the first week i had my headset but every meetup is just the same shit
if you're not someone who lives to show off your most recent hair color change on your weird huge titty avatar (that everyone else also has) it's not that much fun standing around and talking about the exact same shit you talked about last week
i'm not even complaining about the people (and i mean this in the best way possible but you guys are just not that interesting i'm sorry) but like there is literally nothing to do in vrchat, even if you guys were the most interesting people in the world
its no wonder every instance is just people getting plastered or having e-sex, like what else is there to do?
here's how you're supposed to use vrchat:
>join instance
>find people you click with
>add them on steam/discord/whatever
>play actual vr/flat games or just chat with them
and this is how you guys use it
>join instance
>make small talk with strangers
>drink till you can't see
>drunkenly ask why nobody likes you and cry
>pass out
>repeat
my advice is to just use vrchat to make friends, and then go do something else with said friends
>>441240081
Damn looks like you're gonna have to show up and tell him yourself.
is it possible to speak in public worlds and only have my friends hear my voice?

This will always be inferior to external tracking solution. There's a loss of tracking due to gameplay speed or occlusion/out of range, for starters.
>quest 2 mass-adoption has incentivized VR development
The games developed for the Quest 2 are limited in scope and innovation and do not build on the groundbreaking achievements made in PCVR, from physics interactions, graphics, and user created content (The biggest PCVR games thrive on user created content). In fact, it's a race to the bottom in quality.

quest 2 is the most popular PCVR headset by a huge margin. pre-quest 2, why even bother developing a vr game at all, when at best you'll sell 25 copies. now theres a lot more reason to develop vr games, period, because there are way more people with hardware

The sick ones here are the trans, for whom this is a fulfillment to their narcissistic desire to trick people and manipulate interactions to try and play on social easy mode and get that "girl card" via voice training to take on the role of women and collect simps and preferential treatment. (All eyes on them, everything is about them.)
Which really, should make you feel more sick that talking with fellow anons who wear the embodiment of their favorite anime tropes for their own and others enjoyment, and do a bit of casual social drinking together. (Mutualistic camaraderie.)

I will be slapping a Vive tracker on it and using my existing base stations then. Base stations are fucking great, and I have no clue why you'd complain about them beyond the initial cost which most people who'd care have already outlayed because of the Index.
Cameras on the controllers is superior to base stations.
Since we’re talking trackers, is there a consensus on the new vive inside-out trackers? They are supposed to be releasing Q3 2023 (2 more weeks?), but how would these compare to a lighthouse set up? While the cameras mean they can track reliably like the quest pro controllers, will they still suffer drift and occlusion? I’m holding out because even if they release at £200 a piece 3 trackers would be cheaper than 3x 3.0s and 2x lighthouses

Lighthouse tracking is essentially an array of 1x1 resolution cameras on the devices that interpret their position based on differences in time of flight from the IR emitters. The only system that worked the other way around was the original Rift where the cameras were on the walls and the devices emitted light.
>>441297398
I have a CV1 and whenever I see friends or youtubers or whatever with lighthouse setups it always looks way more jittery than my stuff, particularly on the hands. It's like they have Parkinson's even though I know they don't.
>>441297772
>>441298020
NTA but I never had any tracking issues with my Rift S and only started having them once I switched to Index. Shit like controllers drifting off, jittering when I hold them right in front of my face (which is especially awful when aiming) are frequent but never was an issue. Lighthouses are very strict in their placement to get proper tracking, and from what I've read 2 is the absolute minimum, for absolute no issues 3 of them is recommended (which is extra cost since it only comes with 2).
The only advantage lighthouses have is full body tracking which nobody cares about except for VRChat tranny fags.

>>441244909
>>"no man i don't want to get it all set up"
What?
>>441297772
I had Rift then Index. The tracking is generally the same. Rift was worse for me in Beat Saber as the controllers could not handle songs beyond a certain level without becoming highly inaccurate and I could immediately do much harder songs from the moment I got the Index. Some of the best players had Rifts though, so it definitely wasn't a universal issue. Index is more susceptible to the controllers lurching or flying away when pointing them in certain directions. It might be minor reflections or interference, but I've never completely solved this issue after 4 years. Both can't track perfectly when very close to your own body, the floor, or other objects, despite not being occluded.

Lots of factors play into this. It could be IR issues, RF interference, or even usb load. Some of the jitter also comes from Valve's predictiion algorithms. There's software to smooth it out, and for trackers at least VRChat just added the ability to smooth them out by tweaking the prediction rate in the latest ik beta.

VR newbie here, looking at some VR 6DOF flight games because I want to make myself violently ill. Thinking of grabbing VTOL VR or Overload when they're on sale; do VR games tend to go on sale much? Think they wouldn't because it's a much more captive audience.
To answer my own question - Sublevel Zero is on sale for like £2.50 here so I'll probably grab that anyway, but anyone played it?
>>441291549

They said this for the Quest 2 and it did help but only barely. There's only so much you can do with cameras.

Sales are rare, but piracy is also trivial to the point that some games can be played online multiplayer with normal people, most notably Walkabout Minigolf. VTOL is very fun, would strongly recommend it, but any sort of flight sim actually doesn't make you that ill unless you get motion sick playing flat games imo, since you don't have any big disconnect between your body moving and what you're seeing unlike a standing game.

There are furry generals in 4chan now. They exist. As long as they play nice and observe anime dress codes when in /vrg/ instances I couldn't care less that they're a thing.
Respect amongst each other's degeneracy.
To normies anime is degenerate as is already.
>>441346262

>>441362425
As long as people aren't yiffing and acting like degenerates during events I don't mind if people come in with goofy avatars. If someone wants to "*cuddles you* UwU uuguuu~", they can take that shit to a private world or get kicked. Simple as.

have fun with that. Doesn't really sound like my scene. I'd rather have a dedicated activity, not forced socialization.
>>441378304
What activity would be fun for you anon?
I've been thinking of having an update next year of having some interesting stuff that could occur while socializing.
Or something that can give ammo for the socialization like how prop comedy does it.
>>441378506
Don't get baited into changing up something that works.
>>441378506
Well, there are all kinds of VR games, this is VRG after all. Golf looked like fun. All those mil-sim games look fun as well. Some CRPG/D&D stuff in VR would be pretty wild. I saw someone was working on re-making PSO in VR which would be neat. The dungeons might be a little much though. I'm digressing though...
I'm guessing you mean for the round-robin, right? Something more laid back like Shogi or Majong to distract the users while they talk might help but you'd have to get rid of the 5-minute time limit. That or have a game that can be finished in 5 to 10 minutes. Table tennis or pool might work as well.
For me personally, I'm a more solitary person. I'd rather just game with like-minded randos rather than forming deep connections and trying to make friends in my mids 30's.
>>441379284
Like this guy says, I wouldn't bother trying to accommodate hermits like myself. Not every event is for everyone.
>>441379284
I won't change the core. It's more of a supplementary. I know t's harder to change things now that we found something by the sheer amazingness of different people chipping in to make the map from UDON wizards, to room makers and anons themselves.
Essentially room or prop gimmicks that would enable more unique and varied socialization opportunities. We'll have to take care it doesn't overshadow or force you to use the supplementary system though. We're not Activision Blizzard.

>>441379481
>I'm guessing you mean for the round-robin, right? Something more laid back like Shogi or Majong to dist
Oooooh. Yeah to the round-robin. A 4-connect prop anyone can request spawn of from the rooms could be neat. Cooldown of 5-minutes on the respawn request will ensure you'll have at least 5 minutes to use it before others can request it kind of like the pens.
>>441379583
No one can play mahjong in 5 minutes
>>441379924
One round might be doable but I don't think it'd be a good idea to put mahjong tables in an already busy world

>>441380276
You really, really should stay focused on what works. Having a clear and concise vision is one of the ingredients of success. You don't need to add a bunch of shit to something that works.
If you want to do a casual games event, why not make that a separate event?
>>441377301

>>441380517
I do appreciate the fair warning anon.
The vision has been working since Feb 2019 of the first speed dating map.
What we're aiming for now is refinement of the idea and adding "texture" and "variety".
Think of the whole event as a 3D model. The FBX has already been made.
The general shape of the event is already done.
What we're doing now is changing or adding materials and normal maps to the event.
>>441379583
I don't know how to play mahjong or shogi. My best bet is watching old movies and doing MST3K style shit where everyone pokes fun at the movie.
>>441379787
The idea is to distract the users and lower their social inhibitions. In therapy sessions with young children, the therapist may sometimes use a simple game like catch or a coloring book to disarm the kids and get them to open up more than they might otherwise. The same trick works on adults but finding the "right" game that is stimulating enough to disarm someone mentally but not too stimulating it halts conversation can be tricky. It also depends on how well a person can multitask.
If you do wanna go this route, whatever kind of game/activity you use, it needs to be simple to play, quick to finish, and offer some kind of mental stimulation like bouncing a ball up in the air and keeping it from touching the ground or something like that.
>>441380906
>The idea is to distract the users and lower their social inhibitions.
Funny you say that. That's one of the reasons the pens are there.
>>441380836
People like the socializing. It's really all you need.
What has been the most consistent complaint with the event? It's the cards. You don't need to put random stuff in to "liven things up".
It would be a better use of your time to add more environments, people like those.
Like I said, you'll have more success if you just do a casual games event instead of trying to incorporate the idea into something that already works.
>>441380834
