/vrg/ - Virtual Reality General #1512

Welcome back racer!
EU Assetto Corsa: European Racing club, season 9!
Race 60.

19:00 UTC 20:00 CET, Monday 13th of November.

All American day. We are going to Paramount Ranch to drive the most overpowered car - Shelby Cobra.

1 hour practice
12 minutes qualifiers
10 lap race

After that - quintessential american past time: going at max speed on an oval.

Assetto - can be played with wheel, controller, or steam-vr-wheel addon, it doesn't matter, we will all have fun driving together. If you just bought Asseto - grab Assetto Corsa Content Manager - a better launcher and mod manager: https://assettocorsa.club/content-manager.html To install mods: just drag and drop zip files from mega onto the Content Manager windows and click on the hamburger menu on top right. Highly recommend installing stable custom shader patch and 7-zip plugin in Content manager.

For communication we'll use mumble at voice.vrg.party port 64738, as it doesn't need any registrations or logins.

Alright motherfuckers it is that time of the week again! November is already here, black Friday is something to remind everyone about considering we are in a place where upgrading your hardware is absofucklutely necessary. Get ready with your list of shit you need/want, wanna gift or otherwise.

Ghost of tabor will be getting its wipe soon, so that means pre-wipe fucking around. Going to be doing that on Friday 9pm PST 10pm EST.

Fair enough, the game you want to play isn't minecraft though
>>453472141
only if it's in the form of a skin

I bought a quest pro but it loses tracking continuously when I turn on the eye tracking. Do I need to get a new one?

>>453472141
Skins will allow you to be a real woman

>>453472295
I've been playing modpacks since beta
mods have been part of minecraft since the very beginning, and have always been a more vibrant and immersive way to play the game

>>453473027
If you change the game that much it's not really like minecraft anymore though. I just wanted this server to have the traditional minecraft gameplay - which is better for VR gameplay anyway. And I wanted to be able to update the server as needed without worrying about mod compatibility. Can't please everyone, sorry anon

>more vibrant and immersive
not more immersive, actually a lot less immersive with the lack of coherency you get from lots of different systems made developed by different people that aren't balanced with each other in mind. Also don't like how extensive mods tend to make the vanilla aspects of the game pointless. Not everyone finds all the extra shit to be better

EU anime tomorrow at 7PM UTC, we're watching Pluto, Undead Unluck, Shy and Spy X Family season 2, all episode 3.

>>453476605
I don't have that version anymore, it's lost media now with everyone else

>>453477363
Not sure. By losing tracking do you mean turning black or it telling you you lost tracking? Turning black thing is the headset thinking there is no one using the headset due to none tight headset attachment or blocking the internal face sensor somehow. Losing tracking the headset will give you a message rather than turn black

>>453477849
everything tracks fine normally. If I turn on eye/facial tracking in the settings it will start freezing a still image and then pop up a message saying I lost tracking.
It will then start working again for a few seconds and then continue to pop up that message again until I manage to make my way to the settings and turn off eye tracking. I've tried factory resetting it. I'm not sure what else I can do.

do you have issues with 16bit and encoding in handbrake? I've been following behind on it this season because ep1 was being stubborn, and now ep5 been causing me trouble.

>>453489681
I use a ffmpeg script that another anon wrote for encoding. Haven't had any issues yet, using the subsplease release

>>453479734
>>453484647
Oh yeah, it's these people. I usually phone it in on songs from this group, I forget what their little studio is called but this studio is a group of highly ethnic individuals and the main problem with them is that they randomly change their stuff up with very little rhyme or reason and very little indication of what they're going to do next. They also cut their shit randomly (see 0:08 and 1:35) and I generally find them unfun to dance to. There's a TML version of blinding lights that is muuuuch better.

When crappy songs are played I won't try very hard. I also hate Golfy because he will just randomly go offbeat and will do random floaty shit that makes absolutely no sense.
The groups that you can actually follow without having to just go ahead and memorize the routines are better, like Marshall and TML.
I don't complain too much because I don't want to dictate what people play, but there are some really crappy tracks in the pypy machine.

I see me, please no bully. I'm not a fan of the choreo on this song so I don't really get too into it. I usually move a lot more even though the baggy clothes make it seem that I don't.

>>453490013
There's like 9001 songs in the pypy machine. I don't even bother looking any more. Also doesn't help that I can't remember the names of songs or groups either. Trying to remember which one it is with the smiling black guy with shades and bright green pants. Actually now that I think about it I can't even remember how the song goes, I just remember that it was fun to dance to. I would be hitting up pypy publics if I could actually remember songs that are fun to dance to or even find them in that fucking huge list.

>playing in publics all day
>literally one after another random FBT dancers come into the lobby blasting music and dancing
>they leave when no one pays attention to them within 2 minutes

It's just a game after all. learning the dances that you like, and having fun while being active, is the point in my mind. not just going as hard as you can for 2 hours for sick gains. do that in a proper gym without fragile electronics nearby or other limiting factors, unless you really have the proper set up for dancing. Breaking a controller or cable while trying to do PRISYADKA is not worth it.

new steamvr auto opens the steamvr overlay when i launch a game, how do I make it stop? Sometimes I play a game with an xbox controller and I don't want to turn on my knuckles.

>>453490013
I don't think I've ever seen you active in a dance regardless of the song...

>>453494051
I'm sure that's because you're always busy and engaged and not paying attention to me on the good songs.

>>453491435
there are very different type of dancers

>the lewd dancer who wants to get fucked
>the guy who doesnt dance at all and is just moving side to side to the music
>the guy who is actually a dancer but sees no point in entertaining people
>the attention seeker
>the competition driven dancer thats just seeking to dance with other people
>the drunk af dancer who dances with everyone else avatar disabled

in my case i dance when im drunk af and too drunk to actually speak, it works wonders

>drunk dancing

okay but how do i keep track of pypy points
is there a pypy bank?

>>453495458
What about
>the autist that has to listen to music and dance to stay engaged in VRChat
cause that's me, I need to do something that isn't just drinking and talking I have to listen to music and that along with alcohol makes me dance.

>>453491435
It is a pretty low level strat. Would be better for them to join lobbies where music is actively being DJ'd and try to form circles trying to dance with other people and feed off each others energy.

I wouldn't call what they're doing mental illness so much not having found a scene they can synergize with yet.

>>453477551

>>453495458

Has anyone tried these cheap head straps for quest? $20 and it looks the same as that bobo shit everyone says is the best. I really don't see how one can be better than the other

>>453495974
You gotta ask Y for your balance. He keeps our pypy points and invests them in some very secure and profitable pypy enterprises.

>>453464059
im practicing i'm excited

>>453506428
Honestly when I tried a cheap strap like that, the back of the strap would constantly slide up my beautiful long locks of hair. Freshly shampooed, the day after, didn't matter. I ended up having to wear a hat in vr just so it didn't slide up the back of my head.
Might not be an issue if you're short haired or bald, but my cheap offbrand strap was awful.

>>453509548
My hair is pretty short. It'd attach a battery in the back to weigh it down anyway. I'm more worried about it falling apart or the tighten mechanism not even working. I guess it's cheap as fuck so it doesn't matter. I'd just get the bobo strap, but the battery on that thing seems like complete shit. This thing and a good 20,0000 mah battery is still cheaper than the bobo strap.

>>453506428
Yeah I have a $20 dollar chink shit strap and it's better than the Elite strap. Mines a more simple design than the one in your picture though.

Okay so I got a quest 3, I'm sorry I was at costco and there was a bundle and it was too good to pass up.
But, I have a 25% off code, it lasts for about a week, and apparently they don't start their black friday stuff till early december, so I'm wondering what, if anything, I should get with it.
I hear people say virtual desktop is a must, but airlink has been flawless for me so far.

>>453526483
Virtual Desktop is good because it bypasses the Meta software on your PC. I'm not some privacy nerd but it is just a smoother overall experience. I have also heard that the encoding is better on VD. Unless you plan on playing Quest games outside of your house I don't see any point in buying games for the stand alone store, maybe Eleven Table Tennis. There are also Quest exclusive PC games if you check their PC launcher, I don't really keep up with them.

>>453526483
link to bundle?

is there a way to block ads on youtube on the quest?

>>453520508
I find it funny as it's the only instance of nu-doom that has telefragging, and it's where Eternal took the boosters mechanic from. At least we can play GZDoom VR and Doom 3 Fully Possessed easily enough.

>>453527750
Just search quest 3 on Costcos website

>>453452215 (Cross-thread)
I thought about buying the Quest 3 but the more I look into it the more problems it has, such as shit and limited controller tracking

Why does baking lighting in unity always leave me with a completely unlit scene? It looks fine before I bake, but after it's just all dark. I have all lights set to baked and all meshes set to static.

>>453533679
Did you generate lightmap uvs for them?
Click on the fbx and in the inspector there should be an option.
Check if they are receiving and contributing to GI
Click on the object and look at its various setting in the inspector.

>>453535094
Yes, the fbx has the generate lightmap uvs box checked. In the actual object in the scene, Contribute Global Illumination is checked, and Receive Global Illumination is set to "Lightmaps"

Anyone with 6700XT playing on Quest 2? Is it working ok?

>>453535350
Make sure your lights are set to baked if you are using the default lightmapper.
Double check to see if didn't fuck up its unwrapping by viewing the preview.
I am going to assume you didn't fuck with any other settings.
If all that is correct maybe try doing a new scene or project. Sometimes unity can just break

in steam vr, when i click on the monitor icon to opea na window that shows my desktop is there any way to pin that window in a way where it moves with me?
so when i turn my head it will move my head, as if the screen was attached to a stick coming from my head

>>453538751
>it will move my head,
*it will move with my head,

>>453538751

Default steamvr overlays can be connected to dash, world, or controllers, not your head. Desktop+ addon (its on steam) allows pinning to your head, xsoverlay too I think.

>>453476368

>>453540706
>controllers
controllers but not head? why? this is so retarded, did they really think the ability to have a "HUD" window wouldn't be desired by users?

xsoverlay costs 10 hamburgers so that is out of the question but look like desktop+ is free so i will check it out thanks
i can't fucking beleive this isn't part of base steamvr functionality, fucking gaben he just rakes in steam store money and doesn't care about anything else

They've been doing it 3 times a week for the past 2 years. Each session is like 2 hours. You would assume there would be progress but it still looks like no one can actually dance. Weekly pypy is such a joke. No one will actually get better at dancing if they don't even learn any of the fundamentals. But it's not like it matters anyways since no one who's interested in learning to actually dance is going there.

Hello I have been stuck on using an og vibe for the past few years and last time I looked the index was the best full package vr headset to buy
I haven't kept up with all the new headset releases and finally am looking to upgrade
What is worth it right now?

>>453575470
since you already have the vive headset with the basestations, might be worth placing an order for the bigscreen beyond
won't arrive until January/February but it's the best option you have for an upgrade

>>453575470
The consensus seems to be either go full send and get bigscreen beyond with base stations and valve knuckles or cop a quest 3. Either way hope your GPU is up to the task.

>>453575470
just get a quest 3 or used quest pro, they function far better than the index due to pancake lenses and dont have wires which makes using it a lot nicer.

if you want to use basestations and knuckles later you can add it later

>>453575382

How do you attach a tracker to a Quest Pro for continuous calibration? My current ghetto solution is strapping a Trackstrap+ with an old Vive 2.0 tracker around my head like pic related.

buy one of these

stick it on the battery part, typically on the left or right backside (so its not in the middle so you can still lean your head back if you want)

thats how i have it, its really convenient since you can take it off if you want.

>>453576171
But does that come with controllers?
And isn't it already out, I seen people on twitter have had theirs for months

>>453579065
those were people who preordered in february, they won't be caught up with production for all of the current preorders until next year.
if you wanted to upgrade controllers you would have to get index knuckles as well, but the beyond is still the only clear upgrade for PCVR, upgrading to an index this late in it's lifecycle is ill-advised. Quest 3 is decent if you don't want to go all out since it's specs are generally better than the index.

>>453577808
I use sticky velcro and front mount it personally and have zero issues on a quest 3, you could probably do the same thing but unicorn it on a qpro.

Does anyone know any good comfort attachments for Pico 4? The pad that touches my face feels uncomfortable after a while.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1501820/Ziggys_Cosmic_Adventures/ its out! But is it good?

>>453577808
I took a 3d model of the tundra baseplate and used blender to cut 2 slots in it (i still haven't figured out cad software) then 3d printed and replaced the stock baseplate with it. Then I was able to pass 2 zip ties through the slots and around the back of the headstrap, offset to the right, with some scrap cloth between all surfaces to keep from damage.

The Deckard has finally been announced, Gabe hasnt abandoned VR, the two weeks have passed, Quest kids can stop laughing at us Valvesisters!

>>453581104
>deckard
that's just a revision of the deck with an OLED screen and a slightly larger battery. Still uses a horrific screen size and would probably last all of 3 minutes trying to run vrchat.
deckard is a brand new soc.

November is looking to be a fire month of announcements. Steam Deck 2023 being announced today and then Deckard two weeks later? Crazy.

>>453590021
Considering they spent 10 years making mad dosh off hats and keys and how well the steamdeck has sold already, I am not surprised at all they're continuing to milk the lowest common denominator.

>>453586293
Try selling drugs.

Is the Quest 3 a good upgrade over Q2 if I only care about PVCR and nothing else? I heard the battery drain is quite fast and that the mic sucks, but how are the lenses and how comfortable is it?

>>453590934
Lenses and Display - much better.
Comfort - about the same
Mic - gay baby retard shitfuck 2003 xbox live microphone quality

>>453590021
I shouldn't have RMA'd my Index controller six times. No wonder they are pivoting towards more profitable and hard to break hardware.

>>453590934
Battery lasts about 1h45 minutes using VD, airlink. 2hr~ using cable, because it drains more than it draws from everything but PD usb-c ports (though if your pc has one of those you're fine)
My mic is actually FAR better than my quest 2, it seems like certain lots were shit and certain ones were great.
They pretty much require the elite strap if you don't want your hair ripped out by the included ones. it ripped a huge fucking chunk of my hair out, sucks ass.

That looks like the default launcher, I am 90% sure that one wouldn't work for this, you would need to try one of the ones recommended in the rentry in the OP. It's pretty simple once you install one but if it's too much of a pain I don't blame you

>>453608458
grab polyMC, it's a better launcher

>>453609801
I personally recommend pollymc instead (two ls.) It's lets you create a offline (pirated) account with like two clicks. It just werks

>>453610239
>>453610530
ALSO 1.20.2 is not the right version if you were going to try to use that, you will need to download the instance in the rentry. Once you download that instance you can just import in into that launcher

should I just get the quest pro
Those self tracked controllers seem nifty and I want the charging dock and local dimming/eye tracking but that passthrough and more powerful chip do look good on the Q3. No arm tracking above or behind you sucks though and that mic is aids.

uploading a few bushido bussin clips. I wish this game had a stream camera a la VRC because most of it is awkward placement.

>>453611231
it depends what youre doing, i have quest pro and i use it everyday with my index knuckles and FBT trackers, but i bought it well before the q3 being announced and i probably would buy the q3 now instead because the qpro is horribly unbalanced physically for FBT dancing and i think q3 would be nicer for my specific usecase. but i DONT USE THE CONTROLLERS at all aside from opening virtual desktop since i use index knuckles.

if you dont do FBT or high speed movements i would pick the qpro all day long, its the more complete package with the self tracked controllers, face tracking, built in elite strap, included dock, local dimming, etc..its also not that autistic white color and people wont think youre a weirdo for wearing it around them

>>453607921
yes

>>453613375
wanna meet up?

>>453535843
Should work, but the hardware video encoder is worse for Quest than the Nvidia one so I'd go Nvidia if you're looking for a new card.
Still not sure if some of the issues I was having like VRC video players not working on newer drivers ever got fixed though.

>>453612710
If the mic didn't suck I'd be locked into a Q3. I was gonna get trackers down the road anyway, and surely the pro controllers will go on sale. Maybe they fix that mic and atrocious battery with a stealth revision if I wait it out. As it stands it's a tossup. I don't know what I want. Either would be a night and day upgrade coming form my brief but fun time with my CV1. Can't really miss features you never had.

0% chance they fix the battery, it's designed to use the elite strap+battery back, it's seamless once you pop it on. I'd wager they probably made it a separate purchase to cut costs and keep it at $499.

I got a quest 3 for my mom, she's been fascinated by VR since I had my OR-dk1, but I sorta fell out of love with the whole scene because I had to move, didn't have space to properly enjoy it, and new hardware came out and- yeah, all that shit.
I've got her set up with airlink, and it's working pretty okay, but I was a bit confused, there's no passthrough support for airlink, which seemed like a pretty big feature of the device, so am I just missing something? I would like for her to be able to watch stuff on her computer while she's cooking or doing laundry or whatever the fuck she does, but as is she's stuck in that weird oculus void.

I'm grateful to everyone who puts the effort into practicing. Other than the session 1h before race, I'm not practicing myself, but the better people get, the cleaner race becomes. I'd rather accept that someone overtakes me because he did his best and practiced hard then accept that someone accidentally took me out because he spun out due to no experience+no practice. It can also possibly level the field a bit, a person who ends up on low positions can practice and get to fight against mid-field. More overtakes, more fun, more excitement, everyone wins.

>>453710876
The VR remake seems cool, but I can't even handle flat horror games.

>>453710967
I'm only running 106 plugins, most of those being .esps for loading textures as I need to justify spending money on a 4090. I'd say it's worth it, I like the game a lot more than playing it flat. Sure Fallout 4 is the weakest mainline Fallout, but VR and Sim Settlements 2 allow it to stand out and do its own thing. The VR settlement building interface is ironically one of the few things Bethesda put effort into, and placing stuff with your hands is fun.

It certainly does the shooting better than the other Fallout games too with VR+working sights/scopes+ballistics mods+physical grenade chucking. I use a slowmo VATS mod that similar to Super Hot drains your bar whenever you move, along with the real time wrist based Pip Boy option on. So VATS only goes down when I am shooting, moving, using my pip boy, or pulling out a stimpack to stab myself in the hand Alyx style. There's still no manual reloading sadly, physically cranking a laser musket would be a dream come true for me.

>>453711878
Don't really have any interest in the settlement stuff, but since it seems like the rest of the game is fun, I'll have to grab it on sale sometime.

Quest 3 passthrough is fun, but when other people can't see the same thing as you there's not quite as much immersion for everyone involved.

To address this, I made a vrc world that's a recreation of my irl room and wrote an alignment/calibration script to automatically rescale, rotate, and reposition me so that my irl playspace lines up 1:1 with the in-game world.

I use this with the passthrough so that I can hang out with my VR friends in my room; they can see me in the vrc version of my room and I can see them in the irl version of my room and we're all experiencing the same thing in the same alignment

>>453711261
I wouldn't really call them hidden at this point, but if you don't know about the VR ports of older games that are available on SideQuest, those are pretty neat.

I tried Cosmodread and it sucks ass. I don't understand the 90+% positive ratings. The horror elements last a whole 20 minutes before you figure out all the ambience sounds are scripted. It's slow, boring and the only tension is not knowing when some facehugger or beholder are hiding around a corner.
Same thing with Propagation: Paradise Hotel. That game has basically one hotel floor that last 2hrs, there's zombie corpses everywhere which are scripted to get back to life at certain point in the story but most of all it's plagued by the absolutely dreadful AI director system straight ripped from Alyx. Running low on ammo and health? Surprise surprise just open random drawers and here you go!

what's the process of creating the kind of cool glowyish hair shaders i see on some (cringe) TDA avatars? I'd like to do it for my booth one but idk much about textures or shaders

VR Mahjong in 7 hours! might play emuvr more maybe maybe not

Haven't played VR in 2 years and I'm considering buying a Q3.
How difficult/convoluted is it to pirate games compared to the Q1?
Is ALVR/ReLive available for it? Is there anything better for streaming PCVR now?

>>453729994
Do you need a faceberg account or can I use my old oculus one?
Can you pirate Virtual Desktop? I remember it being around back in the day but ReLive was good enough and I didn't bother with it.

>>453731743
What would you recommend?

>>453732030
Its not necessary. Airlink is better than VS unless you reall really want to fine tune contrasts and colors to a stupid degree. And for the Pico I strongly assume their solution has also superseded VS. it was an okay tool 4 years ago, now its just a cash grab by a lazy ass Swedish faggot that scams new fags with extreme spam advertising

>>453732030
I don't think there's a pirate build of virtual desktop for the Q3. The main reason why you want to use it is because the godlike resolution setting is much higher than what the occulus streaming software offers and there's a bunch of other nice options in there.
Probably could get the same thing going with ALVR but I don't have the patience to tinker with it.

>>453732030
I'm not sure. I think you missed the window to migrate from an Oculus account to a Meta account so you might be shit out of luck on that part. Someone can probably provide info on that.
You need a Meta account now which is not necessarily a Facebook account in a sense that you don't need to use your real name and verify your ID with government documentation so you don't get locked out of your device if you fail to do so, but obviously it's still used in IDing for Cuckerberg's data harvesting.

The anon that mentioned Hololens was right. Hololens came first and it's what Microsoft was actually pushing harder. The VR headsets came later as part of the same platform, so they just used the same name for those even though it didn't really make a lot of sense.
Microsoft never even made a VR headset of their own, they left that to other companies instead while they kept working on AR.

Hello vrg. I have a little technical question. Is there a way to spawn avatars as mannequin on the map for research purposes?

>>453762092
The shaders in that screenshot is complementary unbound. It's included in the instance download, both a VR-tweaked version and a unironic version, but if you use it in vr you should also turn off the light shafts because I forgot, they sometimes render in non-stereo.

The main reason for being simply vanilla+ is for vr-optimization and longevity. We actually tried a full-on modded server for vivecraft here a few years ago and it died almost instantly, for multiple reasons that mostly stem from being heavily modded. I want to be able to keep this one up steadily, update it to new versions of minecraft, and not run into issues or have to make players have to keep redownloading updates to the mods to fix things. That being said we do have a few mods, mainly create - for engineering autism, and little maids. I might make one more update to the server to add small mods that were requested so if you anons have any suggestions please let me know, can't be too unvanilla though

>>453766916

It's gonna be harder to assemble something like that again because people already did it.

The "first of it's kind" thing really gets people going on contributing for the fun of it. After that fades I think we as a community just sorta collectively wants to either find something new.
Else it's harder to assemble once more without financial incentive after that "first of it's kind" magic is used up.
Maybe after another few years people will find ways to assemble once more just for the fun of it, time will tell.

How long has this thread been going, 4 days without reaching bump limit? It’s clear that it’s kept alive only by the few hosters of games. It’s like a billboard for empty events. No discussion about VR just some pictures of vrchat or hosted games and the occasional copypasta.

Hi, friendly reminder that next ParaPara training session is today at 17:00CET/15:00UTC/11:00EDT/2h from now ( or just double check the time here: https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/generic?p0=195&iso=20231111T17&year=2023&month=11&day=11&hour=17&min=0&sec=0&msg=ParaPara) in VRC.
>What is ParaPara? Why are we doing training sessions? ...
ParaPara is a type of dance usually associated to eurobeat songs, mostly focusing on arm movements (and cool poses). The main goal is to actively learn ParaPara choreography and eventually make content out of it (videos, events, performances), but anyone is free to join no matter if they want to take it seriously or just as a fun thing.
More info there: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1hwT64HqRofEHIBqdlFWB-INMAwz14gx547Z9CHodRy0/edit?usp=sharing
>What's planned this time?
Chill session this week, we'll dance along to a collection of songs from DVD (basically PyPy style) or check out some Christmas themed ParaPara videos on the internet.
As usual newcomers are always welcome and we'll adapt the session depending on who joins.

The only thing keeping me from making this thread my much more active personal VR and vrchat blog is courtesy to those that shit and piss themselves when they see vrc.
As soon as they give up, things will speed up :)

Just finished Ziggy's cosmic adventure, a bit disappointed.

It's a lot of micromanagement. Quite short (3-4 hours to beat campaign, but you can do alternative routes and levels, so replayable, but it's seems it's gonna be pain in the ass to get into alternative levels without built in cheats/dev tools). Flying is weird, it's basically on the rails space shooter (you can fly only along long invisible tunnel, cannot turn around, and you fly quite slow). There is a lot of battery/damage micromagement and Ziggy cloning to get energy. It's interesting to play but lacks in polish and level design, makes it a bit dull really.

I recommend to play it if you get it on a good discount.
