:: /vrg/ Vault 2024 | January 25, 2025 ::
Take your time to look at your screenshot folder of 2024 and reminisce through your memories with friends and anons alike. Submit your favorite memories of 2024 in VR! It can be pictures, videos or items - so if you have some spare moments this weekend, get through your screenshot folder and send them in!
Up to 3 happy memories per month so let's go down memory lane together anon.

To make things easier, it would be great if the pictures are named or sorted accordingly (with the month/date in the filename), for your convenience there is even a .rar with a pre-organized folder structure available for download:
https://www.mediafire.com/file/l9nyizc9ca3kqlb/vrg+vault+2024.rar/file

The files can be sent via
e-mail: vrgvault@gmail.com
Discord: vrgvault
or just reply to this post with a link to your uploaded image folder.

ANYTHING GOES: Keep in mind that even though the vast majority of photos and screenshots will probably be from within VRChat, you can also share remarkable images from other games - it just has to be /vrg/-related, i.e. games or explorations coordinated in the thread.

FOR ITEMS: send the mesh (no udon please unless you know what you are doing, cause there won't be time to fix it, it will just be shoved into the LOD slot)
Any item that you want to place in the /vrg/ vault 2024 is welcome!

FOR VIDEOS: Just the youtube or any link to it would be good, we'll chuck it into the video player in the map.

FOR WORLDS: Send the wrld_id of something you made this year

Important Dates:
Jan 18 - Final day of submission
Jan 22 - Late submission (non-optimal spots in the map)
Jan 25- /vrg/ VAULT Exhibition

Today's anchor post is.....post a vrchat screenshot you like!

Finally started playing more VR games and I'm making my way through Boneworks and I just hate how the enemies look. When you punch them and you leave the holes in them it just makes me viscerally disgusted for some reason.

:: CHINESE NEW YEAR - Year of the Snake - Dress up Event | February 1, 2025 ::

Celebrate Chinese new years with /vrg/ by becoming snek or just wearing a nice snake themed Chinese dress!

Ok here's the breakdown on how to get your basic Snek girl up and running:

1) DL this https://files.catbox.moe/yoxpor.zip (Lamia Tail) (Requires Modular Avatar installed)
2) DL this https://booth.pm/en/items/1633965 (Mesh Splitter)
3) Place the snek prefab insisde your avatar hierarchy (there is a scene under Sundae>Parts_Torso>-plain and it contains the prefabs) and scale it to size. DO NOT MOVE IT IN THE VERTICAL AXIS. Just scale it and use the blendshapes to surround your torso in a proper lamia way
4) Make Quad and position it on your avatar like >>508651980 (Cross-thread) (Dead) cutting it just below the obvious spot to cut your avatar in twain. Place Quad in quad slot and body in body slot of Mesh splitter.
5) delete the bottom half of your avatar
6)???
7) SNEK STONKS

btw some extra note for the Chinese New Year dress up event. Not required to be LAMIA but preferrable.
You can be any creative snake you want to be or just a simple chinese dress with some snake theming on it.
Everyone of /vrg/ is welcome to witness the madmen and kings who became snek.

I really like this bus picture we took from last week's exploration. It felt productive being with friends moving in a virtual bus like we're going somewhere

Specifically talking about the null bodies, I think that's what they're called

>>509927269
The shot at the daybreak, japan map was also kino. Lots of kino groupshots were had on last week's sea explo hope we get more nice kino shots later

:: SEA Anime and Exploration - Edition | (See schedule below) ::
What is this?
Super Epic Awesome Exploration (SEA Exploration for short)
We go in a group to explore many new VRchat worlds in a rapid fashion to find good ones and experience them in full with nice frens. We watch a couple of seasonal anime before the explore!

When?
Sun - 8:00AM-9:30AM UTC - SEA anime
Sun - 9:30AM-3:00PM UTC - SEA after hrs heavy exploration

There will be one soon in a few hrs will drop link when the time is nigh.

Is it really weekly and how does it work? I might be interested in autistic exploration

>>509943710
Yeah it's weekly. It's basically a gacha of good or bad worlds we find from VRchat or twitter posters. It's mainly me dropping worlds but others can drop too as long as you talk with me first since there are details necessary for world size and world variety etc.

We can enjoy good worlds and can laugh at the bad worlds so it's not so harsh. We usually last longer on good worlds but almost immediately leave a bad world for the next. 5mins(min) to 15 mins (average) up to 30mins(max) on a world and that 30 min is only for the truly good worlds. We usually hop every 10-5 mins.

that furry is autistic and will refuse to switch avatars. there is obviously a reason why they're blocking you so they can still be a furry and avoid getting kicked.

>>509965446

Furries that block the instance owner should just automatically get the boot. No negotiating to try and get them to change avatars, just get them out of here.

You missed my point.
It's not "kick them because they dont like the instance owner and blocked them"
It's "kick them because they're pre-emptively trying to avoid getting kicked while still being a furry by blocking the instance owner"

i am currently starring at a mirror looking at my avatar and silently occasionally looking what the godzilla and superman are doing around me in vrchat

>>509966020
that furry doesn't even browse this thread and is a constant nuisance

do i count as furry if i just have tail and ears? i think they are removable on the model but they are so also movable if you pet me so i hate to remove them just in case someone wants to check me. i have a bird avatar too which is way less lewd than anything so i guess i will pick her

>>509967239

>>509972251
okay since you're new like you said i dont think you quite understand how vrchat works. instances are not like constantly online servers, they only last until there's nobody left in them. they're temporary. you won't be able to get into an instance that was posted 3 months ago because it doesn't exist.
it's not like a dedicated server in multiplayer games like counter-strike where it's always there as long as the server owner pays the server bill and anyone can join or leave at any time.
each vrchat instance only exists for as long as people spend online in the instance.

>>509972789

OpenXR Latency Tester v3.
New features:
1. Particle noise. Press B (right controller, upper face button on index and quest) to toggle noise. It will follow the camera during testing, so don't worry about positioning.
2. Rapid Testing Mode. If you don't move the headset on test finish (green screen), you will enter Rapid Testing Mode, which starts the next iteration of the test right away and shortens non-essential delays.

>>510054004
>Also, either this noise is way too "easy" for encoder
Compare the filesizes if you still have the old vids.
1/4 the size for the video with 4x the duration.
Encoder is struggling.

>>510054198
Don't notice blatant artifacts. The colors get a bit weird when the points get very small, most likely because of 4:2:2 encoder subsampling. Other than that, nothing.

Quest + Knuckles + SteamVR is not representative of typical usage in games where latency is the most impactful.

>>510055938
it is already capable of rendering a scene, that's what it is doing right now, the head is tracked and you can see your controllers etc
extending it to a full game wouldn't be that hard.

>>510056250
well go on then.

Now the question is, what the fuck is going on with the network stack that it introduces so much latency?

>>510055728
>It's just an engine with no indian bloat.
Imagine...

Well the biggest delay source is not the engine, or steamvr, apparently it's Pico Connect and Virtual Desktop way to handle encoding/decoding/transmission. How did Oculus Link become so low latency?

But in the end, is it? Nobody volunteered to do the test in vrchat world using oculus link yet...

>Quest + Knuckles + SteamVR is not representative of typical usage in games where latency is the most impactful.
The most representative VR gaming useage is children playing standalone gorilla tag...
In here, amongst enthusiast PCVR users, knuckles and steamvr is very normal and common.

so you can expect virtual desktop to take around 100 ms on a quest pro or quest 3 on 90hz, with a new $300 wifi 6e router

>>510056761
Pico owns the hardware. They can do whatever they want. Everything oculus could do, they could do too.
They are a first party.

Pico Connect is native Pico steamvr driver. Virtual Desktop is whatever weird oculus api emulator it is.

>>510056749
good for quiet people who communicate by blinking

>>510056807
Something is wrong with that setup. 80ms+ is just not normal.
We need virtual desktop results from the latency tester.

>>510056749
You can save a few frames by making it render low quality around your peripheral vision which isn't able to be seen in high detail anyway. Foveated rendering I think it's called. I've seen some games use it for aiming pointers in menus.

>>510056807
there was only one tester for quest pro/3 me and my router is in the next room over, not the same room as me, so more data on it would be nice.

>>510056807
Funny enough at low resolution and low bitrate and no noise:

Pico 4 Pico Connect UltraHD wifi 90 Hz 50 Megabits WiFi 57,6 ms
Pico 4 @ 90 Hz, Pico Connect res: Smooth h264 50 Megabits Noiseless USB2.0 50,6

>>510056749
VRC is the primary use case, but I wish eyetracking would become a standard and then every single game would only render the important bits you're looking at with full resolution

>>510057107
Actually, that's a good real-world test setup. Having the router in the same room as the headset is not a good test.

>>510057231
nobody on earth is streaming at 50mbps so that result doesnt really matter

>>510057098

>>510057513
most vr people here have their router in the room they use VR in, and a dedicated one at that.

>>510056704
>PCVR users, knuckles and steamvr is very normal
On Quest headsets? For VRChat where latency is more tolerable and you want lighthouse tracking for other purposes, sure. For VR games like vrfps it's the suboptimal choice for both performance and latency. I don't want to see 'wireless latency is too high for vrfps' when the numbers cited are from a niche combination that most PCVR users are not using for real VR games.

>>510057406
>Unknown resolution though

>>510057775

What is the point in buying a dedicated router and not placing it in a direct view of the headset?

>>510057538
>>510057538
Was already done (on linux). Slightly worse compared to Pico Connect and Virtual Desktop, although on Linux

What codecs support 4:4:4 decoding in hardware?
h265? Pretty sure h264 is 4:2:2 only in xr2.
This what fucks the image quality the most at high bitrate.

Humans can tolerate increasingly fucked up amount of bullshit in technology stack they're using and it's worrisome.

I don't think that people have a problem with the latency discussion, but people do get tired of showing up and seeing it as the only topic that the thread seems to cover 24/7.
This isn't really your fault, the blame really lies with the people who absolutely shit themselves and the thread when they see a vrc-adjacent topic.

what's the best way to play flat games in vr? simulate a big screen or there is some kind of 3d stereothing that actually looks good?

Suboptimal setup can 2x your overall latency easily.

Thanks anons. Funny how it is, the results actually made me reconsider shitting on WiFi, because ~80 ms is not thaaaaat bad, and with eventual quad views foveated rendering/transmission it might be pretty good.

>>510064625
It's a representative of a good setup of a VR enthusiast on a good wifi router in a real game, using most popular connection mehods. And it's not one persons result, it's at least 3 different setups of different people who seem to know what they're doing coinciding on that latency.
Terry, your app is different test case, and nobody is using Oculus Link.

>>510064625

>>510064361
>because ~80 ms is not thaaaaat bad
Yeah my problem is the Wait pill. Deckard soon™. Q3S soon™.
If I'm ever going to get rid of my index it will have to be better in every way. Everything on the market right now is either so far out of budget or is just a display upgrade at best.
I'd eat the wireless delay if it meant same/better audio quality AND face and eye tracking instead of one or the other, since it's a given the displays (but not FOV) in newer headsets will be better.

>>510063243
I mean, as nice as it is to see people attempting to provide some kind of data, the results are all over the place because the testing setup and methodology aren't consistent between headsets. There's stuff like the Q3/QPro tester not having his router in the same room that you'd only know if you saw this particular thread.
That's all well and good if people treat the chart as something to give you a rough idea of the differences between headsets, but the way numbers are being thrown around like gospel truth doesn't really make it seem like that's the case.
It's also not like it really resolves anything, it just stirs the eternal latency debate back up every time anyways.

that's how you test latency properly

>>510064852
VD can do 40ms on noiseless. It's just weird that they are getting 80ms on a noiseless too. Just doesn't make sense.

>>510065450
>that shit is just a better user experience and superior performance
It's not. Performance is not superior. We are testing the full pipeline, not just the monitor latency.
The only limiting factor in our methodology is the fps of the cameras, but doesn't really matter because we are "vsync"ed.

>>510065684
>you haven't watched the video or understand the principles of input t
I didn't watch the video because I knew about that device before.
I was blurbusters for 10+ years and was also a CRTfag.

>>510065647
>hybrid tracking calibration bullshit
I'm fine with that since that's ONE application needed instead of a layer attached to the headset + extra (maybe optional) cable + another software app just to talk to steamvr
Even if deckard is standalone xr2 slop I don't see how a company like valve would work on such a thing for so long and have it NOT be better than their other product. If it comes out and it's just shit well... That's grim.

>which shows completely static one color screen vs realistic application
I don't want to make an ad for virtual desktop, but you are forcing me right now.
I'm 100% sure I will get a lot lower than 80ms even on noise.

>>510065684
you don't seem to understand the testing method you're criticizing

we are literally looking at video in slow motion of controller being yanked and hmd screens reacting to that movement. Amount of frames times slow mo video frametime is the delay. We repeat the yanking multiple times to average out the noise.

The thing you've sent captures the moment of mouse click and looks at a screen using a photodiode to detect a flash. It's comparable, but there is no cheap, ready to use device available to yank the vr controller and detect reaction on vr hmd screen.

I dimissed zuck's HDR prototype because that shit was huge and I don't see how they would downscale that.

I dismissed PSVR2's HDR because they used high persistence to get high brightness which makes some people sick, I also just never got a chance to see it.

I was under a rock for a year and just found out about RTX SDR to HDR conversion. I actually have had an HDR oled monitor for a while and kept it in SDR because there was no HDR content (porn). I also watched some SDR to HDR games on youtube.

Holy shit I am ruined. It improves almost every image/video with no A/B required to tell. And I also know that hdr is not going to happen on pancake because they absorb so much light. And high res is just wasted on fresnel because i'ts blurshit outside the center.

Basically how long until is HDR is practical on a VR headset? I would pay 2k for that shit. If you fapped a modest 2 times a week for only 4 years that would be less than $5 a nut. But the fact that apple couldn't do HDR when their entire meme is the passthrough is as realistic as possible and its over $3000 means you can't do it with currently existing technology.

What a minutes, so nvidia supports full chroma encoding of h264 and h265 for a long time.
Does apple vision pro support full chroma?
Snapdragon garbage is 4:2:2 max.

Anyone here has a mac with apple silicon? Can you run a command with ffmpeg to check support?

>>510072084

>>510072339
Subsampling of chroma is the main source of (noticeable) artifacts at high bitrate vr streaming.

>>510095334
well its more than one stream technically, but i dont know enough of the techside of things other than they use their own servers and resources to host things
it seems based on your question that you may mis-understand the setup of the event, so just in case have this webm of the general flow of how it operates

>>510095697
This looks a little too adhd for me, I usually have to watch 2-3 full eps before deciding if I'll continue with a series.

>>510095697
>it seems based on your question that you may mis-understand the setup of the event
I know you are hosting multiple files somewhere, then accessing them through the video player in the instance.
Seeing that you have subtitles and that the quality is not very good, you are most likely just reencoding with hardsubs.
I was interesting in the exact settings so I could understand the quality hit.

Am I misunderstanding the setup?

>>510010891
How would you know if someone’s brain is fried from shrooms?

>>510096569
tastes different

>>510095945
VRChat video players do not support soft subtitles with a few community-made exceptions, and even those require a separate .srt file. Regardless, the event is intended to be a sampler for the season and not a high-quality screening.

>>510095945
oh sorry, you said 'stream' instead of 'streams' so i was wondering if you understood the "multi"part of the box, and thought we watched each episode one by one or something
hence the webm (its also just a cool webm)
the actual hosts will have to give their exact settings though
the quality hit isn't noticeable at all though given VR's limitations on the various hardware, the size of the player. and the hosts being well experienced at using the right tools for reencoding
if you want to watch in max quality the only way is your regular local flatscreen way, not in VR. but the quality as anon said, is good otherwise and in this case for a sampler type format
the appeal here is the social aspect of figuring out what anime is worth a damn this season
>>510095839
its chaotic but also nice because usually at least one anon will know something about one show, so someone usually has a "this is worthless isekai you can ignore" or "this is a X studio original, might be worth paying attention to" opinion

>>510096945
>if you want to watch in max quality the only way is your regular local flatscreen way, not in VR
ffmpeg + basic torrent client will let you do that easily.
download the file in the popcorn-time fashion, so you can watch while downloading, then sync the time between clients.
It's certainly doable.

>>510097467
nigga it's chinese cartoons, not selecting a career path for your entire life. if 2 good shows play at the same time that you're interested in, watch the other one later.

>>510097467
>What if two good shows play at the same time?
it depends but this being a sampler method means you clearly wont get the proper first episode experience anyways, just a litmus test of what might intrigue you personally or the group as a whole
case 1: anons know they will already want to watch an anime because they either saw enough content on /a/ or elsewhere to know they are interested, and then dont pay attention to it and check other anime out instead
or case 2: if there were multiple good anime, you listen to the post block discussion and then can either check it out later on your own or when they eventually play it during the season if it gets voted in
>>510097642
