The rules of admissibility work differently in a stand your ground hearing and a lot of stuff that wouldn't be permitted in an actual trial can get in.
Judges are also the ones that make the decision at a stand your ground hearing (not the jury) and in matters decided by judges, judges are a little more likely to let stuff in because a judge can filter what information is important and what information is bullshit a lot better than a jury member can.
The thing they used the VR headset here for appears to be a virtual mock-up of the crime scene/event and just like any other mock-up, if you want it to have any evidentiary value, all of the data within it needs to be tied to facts that are properly entered into evidence. Judges are keenly aware the difference between things that are evidence and things that aren't evidence so to him, something like this would be more of a novelty than something that influences him heavily.
It would be a lot more interesting if a defense team managed to get this kind of exhibit in front of (or rather on the heads of) a jury panel. Although something like this where you get a judge to view it in a hearing is a good first step to that kinda goal. I could see a virtual reality mock-up being very persuasive to a jury.

I would personally like a VRFPS with an autistically detailed damage and healing system, but the sad reality is that nothing but the lowest common denominator, mass appeal games can possible survive within the niche of VR. You have 4 different medical items, body part/limb damage, bleeding, breaking. You can inject to heal, staple to fix breakages (legs: reduces your walking speed, arms: makes aiming hard, torso: makes drinking/eating not work), bandage to stop bleeding damage, and painkillers to quickly stop debuffs temporarily. Pretty fun and tactical with friends squad actually.

Work work fine in a tactical or slower paced co-op game where someone can play as a medic. I've had thoughts of a similar system but in a game with power armors where you need to weld new plates onto your teammates after injecting them with meds.

the technology isn't coming together very fast. we're at 4k headsets for 500 or 5k for 1000. neither are sharp enough to match a flat display from 20 years ago. Passthrough cameras are extremely limited in resolution and noisy because of the high framerate required. this makes the border of the bodies in a passthrough video always fuzzy. the biggest issue is the use of conventional cameras which limits you to 3dof. I actually think they should be going after plenoptic cameras because the state of the art of those in terms of resolution would probably match up with the capabilities of the consumer headsets on the other end. I wouldn't complain at all about the quest 3's 4kish display if I had 6dof videos to watch. the question is how much are porn site operators willing to invest in cameras these days, my guess is not much, and we'll probably have to wait for the application to show up somewhere else.
