Currently running 2 week event with H2 FWD at Monte Carlo to test things out. Should be just like before, it's three stages, nothing too long, and you'll have service areas after each one. Event runs until the 29th, but don't wait until the last minute.

Hey, it even got a hotfix when controls got fucked recently. Modding scene is small, but we can more or less find something to do, and modders create dummy scripts to use internal scripts that are hidden from the SDK, so all in all, there's a potential to have it stay alive at least for a while longer. Wish they'd improve SDK and at least let people mod it properly without resorting to reverse engineering, but oh well, guess they'd rather slack off.

I used to be quiet, alternating between full mute and talking very little, and then I was mostly having fun doing things with body and expressing myself through body language. It was crazy fun, trying to communicate this way was fun, climbing on people's shoulders was fun, environment-related gags were fun. Feels like a nice little challenge to try to do something cool within limited possibilities. Still need help with a long standing problem

I use a quest 2 with steam VR and a wifi 6 router on a 3090. If I crank up the bitrate beyond 85mbs, my VR starts skipping when moving. I get pink lines on my GPU graph. The skipping goes from rare to frequent depending on how high the bitrate is, by 100-150mbs it's pretty bad. At first I dismissed it as the quest 2 has a limited decode speed but I got to realizing I have no idea what numbers it can do, and because it's showing up on the GPU graph, the skip is not in the headset decode or the wifi right? it's my PC? When I check my video encode performance graph in windows the 3090 is full of headroom. I found a troubleshooting guide for ALVR(im using steamvr) recently that describes symptoms and solutions and it helped me rule out other causes. I came across this.

Here's a bunch of stuff to check:
Make sure you're connected to your router's 5Ghz network, not the 2.4 Ghz one.
PC should be connected by ethernet cable to the router you're using for the Quest (whether that's a dedicated router or not)
Quest should be close to the router, ideally in the same room.
If you don't have a dedicated router, make sure nothing else is eating up your bandwidth (and plan to switch to a dedicated one at some point even if it's a cheap Wifi 6 one)
You can check with something like WifiAnalyzer to see if the 5Ghz channels near you are crowded, if so, you can try running the network on a different channel.

If you don't care about getting all the details exactly right and just want a head/face, you can actually get a head model from a single picture. This Unity plugin works some black magic to do it:

Before I had a dedicated router I had the problems you were describing, apart from skipping, the display wasn't able to keep up with quick turns and was showing just black for split seconds.
If you are on dedi router you should easily be able to push the bitrate. Sorry I don't have any better ideas than to check how it looks on some other solution like VD.
There is that issue of screwing with encoding blocks if you are streaming the game somewhere and playing but that's only when using 2 different encoders at the same time.

AFAIK, the only thing new in PSUs since then is the 16pin GPU power connector, which you probably will only need for the fat xx90 cards. If you aren't planning on getting one of those, you can just get the same exact PSU and be fine. VR headsets don't connect directly to the PSU.

When it comes to stability on the head nothing will beat the literal straps that ship by default with the quest since they just squeeze your entire head. But that's not really comfortable. I've had zybervr equivalent of elite strap, that one is cheap and holds well, switched it out for the halo style with battery though. I think it's an issue with the msi tomahawk x870 specifically...it's picky with ram or something
I've update to the newest bios/chipset drivers but it honestly had less issues on the bios it came with.
I did however get a big cpu boost updating the bios so maybe there's a bios in the middle that is more stable but still has the improvements for the 9800x3d.
the msi forums have some dudes complaining about my ram specifically...I guess in theory it SHOULD work.
I just also don't feel like going from 4800mhz - 6000mhz is going to fix the steam overlay and weirdness of this system.

While on vrchat it worked fine for me, when I played golf yesterday it badly glitched out to the point of soft bricking my controller. It went to emergency mode and i had to pair it again through the meta app on phone. i know a friend and his girlfriend would do local co-op games together over the internet by having one of them remote access to the others computer. How i would do it is trying something similar and then stream the game through youtube on a video player inside VRC. To avoid the stream latency everyone would have a overlay screen setup infront of the in world video screen so that they get a accurate visual of their gameplay. Of course this would give everyone remoting in a disadvantage to the local host since they would play with a delay but that's the only way i could think achieving something like that.

I did something similar once when i was playing through a singleplayer game and i streamed it through youtube to a video player inside vrc so people could see what i was doing at the same time i had an overlay up over the screen that allowed me to see the game realtime without stream delay

I think the best we came to splitscreen co-op was going to a world with a tv on the floor and a couch and using desktop+ to place a desktop window over the tv. Everyone did the same thing. It wasn't split screen because you couldn't see anyone else's screen but it was close.

As long as you have access to the model outside of vrchat there are other solutions available.
This (https://guribo.itch.io/suva) software is fantastic for people with VR setups.
Unfortunately, as far as multiplayer goes, you're restricted to jank discord/etc screenshare+chroma setups to get multiple people on screen at once. Or VRChat with its hefty unity overhead.
I would use SUVA and a screensharing setup + a tool like parsec if the goal was to stream, probably.

I've thought about this before. I think a lot of the magic of VRC comes from spatialized audio. Coop gaming with regular voice chat with everyone speaking directly in your head always puts me slightly on edge. I think that even without any avatars, having people's voices sound like they're coming from somewhere, even as you rotate your head around, would go a long way to making internet coop feel more like local coop.

To that end, I did try this hack a few months ago: https://github.com/hiinaspace/ovr_mumble_link . Mumble has has an old positional audio feature, where you can feed in a position/orientation from some game, and it'd attenuate and pan the audio from other players to match. My plugin sticks in your headset pose directly from steamVR, relative to your playspace origin, so anyone using the same plugin ostensibly sounds like they're also just standing in your room. Unfortunately, mumble's spatialization is extremely primitive: it's just panning and slight stereo delay, unlike modern spatialization used by VRC and other vr games (HRTF-based). I looked into integrating SteamAudio spatialization (now open sores) in mumble and I think that's feasible, but I got filtered by mumble's build tooling and didn't pursue it further. If anyone who's less scared of C++ toolchains wants to try though, it might be cool. Or, as much as I appreciate mumble, it actually isn't that hard to roll your own voice chat these days. The design in my head is something like a livekit-based backend and simple web frontend that uses https://github.com/BOLL7708/OpenVR2WS to read headset pose. With a custom steamVR overlay, you could also render other people's avatars over the top of a game from head/hand pose, as a sort of AR-in-VR; like how desktop overlays or vermillion the oil painting thing do it. All pretty doable (though only in steamVR; openXR still doesn't have any sort of reasonable overlay support).
