Theres been some talk in the thread and in some instances of reviving the NA saturday movie night the last few weeks. given this event is now at 8:30pm est, would this weekend be a good time for a 10pm est movie revival? saturdays these days are usually dead so my ideal time would be 9pm est but since we're in event hell with 3d, fbf, monster etc im tired of putting it off to not collide with events while still having absolutely shit saturdays until 2am

anyways the tldr is: is it bad taste to host a mohie 1.5 hours after the start of this or just wait another week?

Start times have been pushed back by 30min compared to summer time, because of the daylight savings the usual time was too late for our russian friends
As usual we will with 1h of chess followed by mahjong at 22:00CET/21:00UTC (~3h30 from now)

eh, the purpose is half revival (im going to try to contact M soon to see if he can update the old drive in theater), and half filling the god awful void of Saturdays that is plaguing both EU and NA these days
clamoring on right after an event defeats one of those purposes, so im ok with waiting a week
this is not to say however that anyone else cant do it, tis merely just my intentions and id support any other anon to do it otherwise since i see a problem with cramming a movie right after a costume event
maydesu ill think more on it since im probably overthinking it anyways as i always do

EU Assetto Corsa: European Racing club
Race 90

19:00 UTC 20:00 CET, 17th of February 2025.

GERMAN DAY. First, Audi TT in Nurgburgring. Fast, classic, but also, front wheel drive, beware! Has a funny trick up it's sleeve - turbo button! Read the picrelated.

1 hour practice
12 minutes qualifiers
7 laps race

Afterwards, we go to explore Bavaria!

Assetto - can be played with wheel, controller, or steam-vr-wheel addon, it doesn't matter, we will all have fun driving together. If you just bought Assetto - grab Assetto Corsa Content Manager - a better launcher and mod manager: https://assettocorsa.club/content-manager.html To install mods: just drag and drop zip files from mega onto the Content Manager windows and click on the hamburger menu on top right. Highly recommend installing stable custom shader patch and 7-zip plugin in Content manager.

For communication we'll use mumble at voice.vrg.party port 64738, as it doesn't need any registrations or logins.
https://www.mumble.info/

I can't recommend enough Crew Chief
https://thecrewchief.org/
He's a helpfull AI fellow in the pits who'll provide you information about your car, your opponents, yell at you or try to encourage you. And most importantly, he will spot for you, in case you have a car in you blind spot.

UI radar are immersion breaking and basically cheating, but this guy will tell you verbally if someone is there on your right. Download, install, select Assetto Corsa in game list, press "Start application" and it should work!

Good headset. Good price.
Completely unusable because the cable is proprietary and sony doesn't offer spares so you can't replace the cable.
(It is NOT USB-C double sided.)

Current best DP supported headset:

I recommend instead getting a quest 3 and a nice 6E router so you can get up to 300Mbs

If you're not the type to sell your old headsets I'd try to hold on with the Index. No point buying a Quest, being outdated within 2 years and not selling it. Normally headsets don't exactly become obselete or outdated but if eye tracking is the next standard in VR you'll probably want it.

then realize it lines up with what you'd get running standalone on the quest or pico (pico standalone is in that graph at about half of the wireless PCVR result)

Missing display stack is basically the same as PCVR headsets do. Polls the controller, render game, copy it through optionally a few framebuffers, send it over DP (or eDP) to copy to the screen, and then flash the backlight. With WiFi headsets it has to be done in addition to copy to the encoder, H264 encode, transmission over wifi, decoding, copy to GPU of the HMD.

>gaygoblin app
i assume you mean the Terry App which isn't being discussed by me at all
here, I'll spoonfeed as hard as I can:
>Pico 4 Standalone latency: 49.2
our baseline
>Pico 4 Wired PCVR latency (noisy 50mbps): 64.7
wired usb streaming
>Pico 4 Wireless PCVR latency (noisy 50mbps): 69.9
wireless streaming
>69.9 - 64.7 = 5.2ms
this is roughly your transit latency, ie a router added on top of encode/decode stack for the streaming part of the pipeline
5ms isn't far off from what I've seen with a WiFi 6 router usually showing like 4ms or so in a debug view
>64.7 - 49.2 = 15.5ms
this is your encode + decode at a low bitrate being pushed to its maximum by a noisy scene
encode usually doesn't take 7.75ms (half the total here), so we can probably assume a 2/3rd split just as an estimate with
>5.16ms encode, 10.33ms decode
this isn't far from a 4ms encode and 12ms decode that I've seen, but that's usually for higher bitrates than 50mbps
>now back to that standalone number:
the baseline 49.2ms is a bit high for standalone, I would expect a number closer to 40ms for 90hz
but tests are going to have some margin of error so these numbers have a bit of wiggle room

I admit I haven't done standalone tests for my dataset, but I would expect standalone tests to line up with wired equivalents at their respective refresh rates unless something wrong is going on under the hood of the Android OS these things are built on top of

>>513812082
ok well that's just the VD dev being wrong
his number does line up with the approximate value I would assume the QPro standalone test would show though which would be 40ms or so as well at 90hz if you subtract the VD ms readout form the graph's result with camera testing

I don't know why you're trying so hard when I have clearly stated what VD dev is excluding and how to see that missing latency from the data we have collected here in THE GRAPH
I have no idea what you're trying to prove
the numbers from THE GRAPH for a pico device using pico connect still give numbers that line up very closely with expected values you'd see from any of these streaming methods breaking out encode/transit/decode
I literally have nothing else to say to you because its just there, right in front of you to observe

anyway my point still stands: decoding is a bottleneck in the WiFi Streaming Slop and until companies start using dedicated hardware on some specialized codec targeting low latency, it'll be hard to shave that number down
encode and network transit times are so low already that any gains there will be very negligible
4ms for encode and 4ms for transit aren't going to see much room for improvment compared to 12ms for decode
but hey if you magically make encode and decode 1ms jobs then yeah the router will matter more for once because it finally becomes the bottleneck!

it largely depends on what the Quest 2's result is with on a locally run standalone app
if 120hz mode gets close to 32ms (which is very plausible) on a standalone app then the best you could theoretically do with a network stack on top of that will still be a bit higher even if encode/decode were 1ms jobs each

12ms is just a large slice of the total network latency pie and why I say it should be targeted for improvement
a new router might net you 1-2ms difference on the transit step if any change at all
encode of 4ms can still be lowered but the current network latencies we're seeing from user tests in THE GRAPH are still showing total network stack latencies of ~40ms overall
which is definitely noticeable when added on top of the display latency stack because you're effectively doubling it
and this is jsut for 50mbps after all, which is borderline unusable unless you have foveated encoding

the precompiled exe was linked in the thread in the past but no source of course ;^)
its takes a lot longer to get data per test in that app compared to the VRC map and most of my data is already in the VRC map so retesting for OpenXR alone doesn't do much for me
I sitll have my few tests with v2 (?) of that app in my graph, but they really can only be compared against each other or more of a means of trying to see if OpenXR versus OpenVR has a major difference in latency (which it likely does), but the added VRC layer with Udon complicates trying to figure that out as well
all I'd gain from getting more data from that OpenXR application would just be seeing how much latency VRC adds
the relative results from the same testing method and environment are what I'm looking for instead

You are not doing honest science. Talk about being disingenuous.
If what you are saying is correct, 32ms result shouldn't be physically possible.
But nah, let's just ignore it and say
>As expected, Wireless VR headset have a considerably higher motion to photon latency than wired VR headsets, at a sensible bit-rate and complex scene almost double that of the wired headsets (40 ms to 80 ms increase of latency).
>This can explain the trouble players experience in fast paced shooting games, where they feel less accurate using wireless headset compared to wired: the gun can move with almost 100 ms delay which is quite noticable. And also overall "sluggish" feel of WiFi compressed video VR headsets.

sorry that wireless is bad but I'm not a boogeyman spoofing my results
I would love for wireless to be good and low-latency, but WiFi streaming just isn't there yet
we need better encode/decode processes to cut it down but even then we're probably talking about like a minimum of 10ms or w/e the Vive wireless solution was getting
much more tolerable, but still a slight additional delay
I tested multiple standalone HMDs with multiple configurations using multiple bitrates across multiple OSs
my router is the ASUS RT-AX88U PRO AX6000
I'm probably the only one who would be willing to run the Terry App to grab more data, but again its only comparable to other datasets using that same program and thus provides me little value for spending more time retesting devices
I'm the kind of person that could easily tell I was getting extra latency from Monado and am very glad they fixed it so that the latency on my BSB at 90hz now matches the Index at 144hz

If you fail to reach sub 50ms results with openxr directly, it just means your wireless setup is highly suboptimal, aka skill issue.
And that means you have no ground to say "wireless bad".

of which only one did a WiFi test and got 42.7ms compared to a wired result of 31.3ms
that's all the data you have for a Quest 2

I've spent less than I did on my initial Index purchase and way less on additional stuff than I did on cable replacements and a head strap to replace the one that fell apart.
It gets more expensive if you're starting from scratch and want base stations to use Vive trackers for VRC, but outside of that, I don't know how you'd get anywhere near $500.

more godot xr gamejam progress. I figured out a stupid way to detect gpu particle system collisions back on the cpu. Essentially it draws a copy of the particle system in a separate subviewport (c.f. rendertexture in unity), but using a special shader that instead of doing actual rendering, it checks if each particle's position is in the target bounding box and if so, draws a red quad across the entire screen, otherwise draws nothing. Then you can copy the rendered texture back to the cpu (at the smallest possible 2x2 resolution). If the first pixel is red, then at least one particle is inside the target bounding box. Wa la.

There's almost certainly a better way to do this, so I'm going to post this to the godot forum and hope I bait some some other dev into implementing a proper solution after they witness my crimes against gpu pipeline synchronization.

Yeah you hit the nail on the head on why I would think it wouldn't be able to do GoDot coding. AI needs the documentation so it can understand what the code needs to do and can do.

And GoDot documentation is sparce to all hell and back.
At least with Udonsharp it's just C# and Unity so it can do it by just assuming it's unity anyways and just patterning the limitations that udonsharp places on C# unity.

I've honestly been loving my chatGPT subscription as well and been using it for work.
I'll see if I can use it to gamedev a bit too. As long as we are detailed and autistic in telling it what we want it seems really good. I'm hopeful fellow gamedev anon

You both are a disgrace. AI slop is negative soul right from the get go.
More than that, if you copypaste the code, you learn absolutely nothing and become progressively more and more braindead.
To give you a videogame analogy, it's like letting a bot play the easy levels and then jump right into the late game on the hardest difficulty when the bot inevitably shits itself. You built no skill, have no 0 idea what's going on. You can't even tell if the bot's suggestion is absolutely retarded or not, and that's very likely for any non-trivial problem.

Okay so I got the unity character thing open, is there any way to change an assets color inside unity?
I want a different hair color, tie color and put high contrast colors as an accent on the clothes.

There is a color correction thing in Poiyomi apparently but it doesn't change anything if I mess with the sliders? Is there an apply button I'm missing?
As for the accents and highlights, I would need to probably edit the texture itself. Highly doubt I can do that inside Unity itself, how can I drag the texture out of the unity asset and edit it in my image editor?

While I get what you mean about the bot doing it for us it's not quite the correct analogy here.
The bot can not concoct our ideas exactly with a single prompt.

It's a directed experience of tasking the bot for knick knacks as you need it. Treat the bot as a junior dev or codemonkey. Ofcourse we still know what the code he is typing is. But the tool of AI is so valuable and easy to use, it's a disgrace to not use it.

People love to tell themselves that, but we both it's not the case in reality.
You are literally losing your ability to think.
And to solve the hardest problems you will need all the skills you can possibly get, because you will be absolutely on your own there.

LLM are close to worthless, for anything but absolutely trivial stuff, because even if you use them "correctly" and don't copypaste their slop, you can't even learn anything properly from them, because they just straight up lie to you.

But if being mediocre forever is fine with you, then I guess you do you, but you shouldn't expect anything but disdain from others.

I would agree with you 6 months ago but this new o3-mini-high is another level. It literally helped me build a geo-guesser game as a room for FBF.

While I typed in most of the code. It helped me in key parts to do it muuuuch faster than me just punching away.
LLMs at it's current level is a good tool, it's a bad idea to ignore tools as humans build them.
We need to embrace the use of AI as a tool.

Different guy here, but similar unity questions.
(or blender but I'd have to learn that from step 1 which would mean more malding and spoonfeeding)
So I have two avatars here. Both are unitypackage prefabs.
One has separate packages for eyes and everything (the one I want to rip from), the other is just "head" (base).
I just want to rip apart the eyes from one avatar, place them onto the other and merge the bones.
Any good ways to just make the eye disappear from the base model? There's an EFBody and a normal version but for both, the head is just one big thing with no option to yoink out the eyes.
I have no idea what the hell I'm doing...

Another alternative is a shapekey that shrinks your hand mesh a little so it doesn't clip through the glove. This is more useful if you want to be able to take the gloves on and off and don't want an extra mesh object.

He's also suggested they've got their own new/upgraded device in the works, which might also be shown soon. Anduril is super hyped up right now both by the markets and the DoD so this is good news for the survival of the program. The US Army was already looking into an IVAS Next recompete (nothing issued but a Request For Proposals so far) and with this move Anduril will take over for Microsoft as the incumbent and have to defend from other bidders. MS was already moving to totally divest Hololens and they had announced a partnership with Anduril a few months back so I guess I should have figured something was coming.

802.11be is wifi 7.
6GHz is recommended for wireless gaming because most consumer devices use 5GHz so you'll have less interference at 6Ghz and you also don't have to worry about lower bandwidth due to DFS channels being disabled if you live near a radar.
With that said it's not a hard requirement. I have no trouble with 5Ghz because I'm in an ideal wifi environment but I'd still recommend 6E or 7 with 6GHz.

Definitely think you guys need to relax on sperging out and revising the config so fervently though. AK74M is fine and pretty usable so long as you buy the grip. I lost an engagement around 10-15m on the last map because I didn't have the money left over for the grip(or I forgot maybe both). The recoil can be controllable just control it better.

Anonymous No.513970920 Replies: >>513971913

The 74M grip you can buy makes the gun usable. It actually makes the gun not spazz out with the recoil with a tighter recoil pattern. Not talking about literal physical grip which is what I think you misinterpreted there.

Because it has the fastest TTK of most of the rifles with the sole exception of the AK12. I used the AK12 a lot regularly back in the day because it also had the same issue without grip, with grip it's deadly and I practiced with it whenever I could. There were about 3 other people last week who made comments that the 74M was terrible and it was probably because they didn't think to use the grip or weren't accustomed to the recoil a la AK12. I was using the 74M whenever possible in all the games today and it never failed me in most situations I won.
Anonymous No.513972941
>>513972769
also the galil and scar has same TTK as well. I had a lot of luck with Galil last week too but I didn't buy it at all this week. If I didn't get the 74M I was buying ump/mp5 and never cared much for trying out the scar(also same TTK).

it just so happens the game (modded) ticks all my boxes for the BASIC vr features a shooter should have.
manual reloading - yes, although you dont need to rack the slides (this is.. fine. it would be cool if they implemented it but oh well.)
recoil (all stats affected by attachments too so it doesnt make them obsolete) - yes, there's a mod for it
2 handing weapons, especially rifles - yes
smooth locomotion and turning - yes (turning with a mod)

hell the game even has functional optics, which i did not expect at ALL.
it ticks all my "i aint playing it if it doesnt have it" boxes and the rest is just a very solid game underneath. great fun. :)

It's an art. In general you should use pose mode on the outfit to get it into roughly the right position and have the pivot points of the bones in the same spot, then use cage deform to get it into roughly the right scale for your body shape, then use fgrab in sculpt mode to get it closer to your skin, and finally use proportional edit to touch up the last little bits. After that it's weight painting hell (which shouldn't be too bad because of the first step) and you're done.
Cheating mode is to just do the first two steps and then delete your body and just use the clothing's armature.

today's meme gamedev progress. I made a title screen of sorts, with the godot's extremely nice looking voxelGI and volumetric fog. It doesn't work quite as well in VR unfortunately; the godot XR devs are paid by meta so they only ever test shit on mobile shaders. 'zucced again.

I also made o3-mini-high improve the particle collision detection thing to detect multiple targets (you can see the debug texture in the back light up red as the particles hit the boxes). It does still take some coaxing but it, combined with claude (using it through cursor like a true modern slopdev) are still much better at shitting out gdscript without me having to go read through the docs to find out what it calls stuff.

The desk and stuff in front is prototype set dressing from the other dev I'm working with. We're still not sure what exactly the aesthetics for the final game will be yet. the game mechanics of directing particles around should be pretty flexible though.

I'm using D4rk Avatar Optimizer because I can't into Blender, and it's default behavior works pretty well.

Very weird, pico connect had an iissue where vrchat default bindings couldnt allow gesture activations, but I never seen that before. Pico controlllers work properly on the 10.4.5 and 10.4.55 versions. But if you dont use pico controllers vrchat will see your steamvr controllers AND pico handtracking, so it can get confused. You can turn off pico handtracking in a configuration json file.

* PC-Engine/Turbografx

So I’m looking to set up base stations for FBT but need some technical advice. My PC is in a different room to my play space and I understand VIVE trackers need to be close to the dongles. Currently I run a 5m Ethernet cable from my PC to my router so would be looking to bridge the same distance. What options do I have here?

My thinking was:
>good quality USB cable to run to USB hub (voltage/data transmission concerns)
>good quality powered USB hub (plugged into the wall. Again, voltage)
>connect dongles to hub then space apart

Will this work? Wondered if anyone has had to address a similar problem and what issues I might want to be aware of
Anonymous No.514028281

The dongles need to be in the same room as trackers or the reception is wonky. Lighthouse dont care about anything, they inly require power (and maybe phone bt app to shutdown/wake them up).

You'll have to extend the usb.

Decided to try uploading a new avatar after not bothering for years. How does one optimize skirts? Do I just give up and let it be static and let my legs clip through? I keep dipping into the very poor rating. Also, what is the best and easiest things to decimate if I need to shave off some verts?
Anonymous No.514052943
>>514052291
create some skirt bones as children of your leg bones, weightpaint the skirt to those. And a bit of physbone movement, but not too much. Voila, skirt moves with your legs and can wiggle a bit.
Anonymous No.514053542
>>514052291
I don't know the what the skirt optimization meta is. You can weight paint it to the legs to make it slightly less static, but it's tricky to do well, so I'm not sure if it's worth trying.

For decimation, anything that doesn't deform is fair game, even if it's still weighted to your body. Shoes are a common one, and sometimes like bracelets or other pieces of clothing. If it still deforms but is high-poly, you can try unsubdivide decimation too rather than collapse. Of course before decimating, you can also remove any hidden verts entirely, e.g. body under clothes. I think that d4rk optimizer script will do some of this automatically if you use shader-based masking.
Anonymous No.514054039
the actual solution is to constrain your skirt bones to the upper leg bones where appropriate

hotel on the beach is a must,

so a neat thing ive found, is that if you go to en.vrcw.net, because older maps had to be manually approved, when they were approved, they would add a tag called [system_approved]
if you look up that tag and go to the very last page, you can find really really old maps.

sadly of course, there's a lot of maps that are gone or no longer function.
(no more moonbase)

still, lots of gems still around and forgotten.

when did you start, yesterday? the point is moreso to remake your og avatar or avatar theme.
unless you're the kind of pleb who just always used public pedestal avatars and never had any identity of their own.

going to old maps is just the backdrop, and not necessarily the point.

But by all means lets just go to popcorn palace or Sovren's home.

Some maps I have in mind are maps that were also popular in like 2020/2021. desu, if you have suggestions for old maps that maybe arent popular anymore, assuming you've been here at least a year or so (for example, the Cave was a popular hangout in like 2020, and I probably have a few 2020/2021 maps saved) feel free to put them out there.

But the real point of the event idea is just the avatar side. people really quickly fall into themes and identities that they stick with across models, and they do change over time. So it's nice to either remake your first model, or say, adapt the theme of your og model to your current one. This is pretty loose as a theme. just an excuse for some vrchat archeology.

like if your og model was a random gamerip mmd, but at some point you switched to say, a boatgirl, and the overall look and theme of that boatgirl followed you way beyond the character, well, why not adapt that og character's outfit to your current body. you dig? youve got options here.

Combining the physbone components on my avatar's hair into a single parent effectively reduced the total count of physbone components without affecting the hair animation, and my avatar is now at Medium rank.
Now it's a good time to force myself into learning Blender to create a Quest-compatible fallback version.
Don't be lazy fucks, and optimize your avatars, anons.
