4 days of Rally Estonia remaining! This event ends WRC2 class championship. After that, we'll have a set of more varied events. Also, they'll probably be weekly rather than bi-weekly because i expect some annoying DNFs in the process.

Nobody probably cares but I'm also looking at doing some rotation constraint magic to get the shoulders to rotate properly, my thoughts are ill have an invisible skeleton the fbt effects, then rotation constraints on the arms to move them, then I need to do something like add rotation constraint for the shoulders with full weights to rotate them in one axis that the arms rotate so they don't clip like they do currently.

Constraints like that always seem a bit fucked up so my solution ended up being hard weighting pauldrons on my models now to roughly 20% shoulder 80% arm. It works.

Got some rokusho bits with the arm pincers separated so can make them move with gestures. Ideally I'd like to add some kind of fancy effect when changing the parts in the menu but also want to make it quest compatible so might be tricky.

I know there were tools to optimize in unity.
I need something to reduce polys, something to atles textures and something to merge meshes.
I want to do it in Unity, so I can do everything in the highest quality possible in blender, then import it into unity, then do the optimization. Otherwise the workflow is all over the place.

you can use polytool to combine materials and meshes in unity, the poly reduction is very hit and miss though, you can get it free on vrmodels.store. Nothing can beat doing poly reduction manually in blender though.

EU Assetto Corsa: European Racing club
Race 94

18:00 UTC 20:00 CEST, 14th of April.

We are going back to the past. To France of 1967, Albi. For one of a kind, two class race, Shelby Cobras and Lotus Type 49s! Both are great cars, but one is lighter than the other. Both are total death mobiles. What will you choose?

1 hour practice
12 minutes qualifiers
14 laps race

Afterwards, I'd love to explore a new freeroam map: Santa Monica Mountains. It's a pretty big photogrammetrized map, with multiple spawn points. We're gonna do a little series, exploring areas of different spawn points. This week: Point F: The Snake Carspot. We have 5 spawn points in total.

Assetto - can be played with wheel, controller, or steam-vr-wheel addon, it doesn't matter, we will all have fun driving together. If you just bought Assetto - grab Assetto Corsa Content Manager - a better launcher and mod manager: https://assettocorsa.club/content-manager.html To install mods: just drag and drop zip files from mega onto the Content Manager windows and click on the hamburger menu on top right. Highly recommend installing stable custom shader patch and 7-zip plugin in Content manager.

For communication we'll use mumble at voice.vrg.party port 64738, as it doesn't need any registrations or logins.
https://www.mumble.info/

I can't recommend enough Crew Chief
https://thecrewchief.org/
He's a helpfull AI fellow in the pits who'll provide you information about your car, your opponents, yell at you or try to encourage you. And most importantly, he will spot for you, in case you have a car in you blind spot.

UI radar are immersion breaking and basically cheating, but this guy will tell you verbally if someone is there on your right. Download, install, select Assetto Corsa in game list, press "Start application" and it should work!

I think I have seen a tool that lets my select and delete polygons. Don't know the name anymore though.
I still think doing all the optimization stuff "last" (and therefore in Unity) is a better workflow, as I don't need to make a seperate "opimised" blend file, should I ever want to change something on my avatar in blender.

>so in retrospect was slime a meme?
Ill try to give an opinion as someone who used them for 2 years (taking note - i did not buy the official kit, i built it myself)

>Accessibility
DIY slimes might be the cheapest non-meme entry into FBT as all components are widely available and dont depend on things like base-stations. I know official SlimeVR kits were notorious for being delayed multiple times. DIY assembly only really acquires basic soldering and can be made even easier if you order a PCB (theres multiple projects with matching cases to 3d print)
However - by now i had to do maintenance on some of them already (some cases cracked at the belt-holders. Wemos D1 faliures and one time a battery catched flames)

>Ease of use
Its 6 belts around you body as minimum (and a lot of people go for 8 to get feet tracking) - so putting it on takes a bit of time. can probably be improved if you get some kind of a clip-on system for the belt i guess.
Also each tracker is charged separately so you either get like 5 usb cables or do humilitation ritual of charging each of them back to back

>Stability
Slimes connect via 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi so i tall comes down to your router. Standing about 15 meters from the router i did not had any connection loses to them

>Accuracy
And here's the main problem that comes with IMU trackers - they WILL drift and you can't do much about it other than recalibrate. Usually a fast recalibration (standing/sitting/laying down in straight position and pressing a button on controller twice) does the job, but i had some specifically bad cases where my torso keeps slowly rotating even if the tracker remains in static position.
The bigger problem is that i never managed to get it completely "go where i need it to be" i put down a leg and it will be several centimeters off the target. a straight forward leg move will go a bit on the left.

2/2

Usually i only do full recalibration once after starting the game to match ingame calibration and then fast recalibrations about each half-an-hour or when i go from standing to sitting or laying down.

Do i recommend them? If you want to get cheap FBT and dont have lightstations - sure. otherwise you might prefer to just get vive trackers.
I dont really have the room for lightstations but i've been slowly considering getting Vive Ultimate Trackers - I've yet to see how good they are now (i recall them being pretty bad when they were out, especially sitting or laying down)

That's all i guess, thanks for coming to my ted talk

Currently the right arm is properly weight painted, but the left arm is completely fucked.
The reason it's fucked is because I copied the right arm after many edits, removed the left arm, flipped the copy and sew'd it onto the left shoulder.

Usually it's best to use the mirror modifier (in the spanner menu, same place as decimate and just mirror the entire thing, mesh and all.
If you're still symmetric this will work okay; select the mesh by vertex groups and you can limit the mesh to only the vertex groups you want

4. good controllers with voice-coil vibro and adaptive triggers (triggers not essential)
5. good mic

I have the audio strap and it's definitely better than the default strap; having a back knob for adjustment is very convenient. The audio is merely ok; sounds fine but not as good as the index speakers, nor as off-ear (they sort of float around your ears but still touch the skin. If you have a 3d printer anyway you might be better off getting like some chink quest strap or vive deluxe strap instead and printing adapters. Also FWIW I also don't have an iphone but I just went to an apple store and did the scan on the demo phone.

I think it's a quest of who and when didn't line up for a consumer product. Quest is standalone so what are they supposed to do, a wireless connection to a camera on your network that they sell and nobody buys? Valve could do it, but they do nothing every 2 weeks until they do something. Apple can do it but basic software wasn't in a good enough state on vision pro, there's a lot of stuff to improve before you get to body tracking.

I think valve could do it first because of their history with base stations, except you just have 2 or more cameras you place in your room and those should be a lot cheaper than lighthouses. They could be POE ethernet like closed circuit tv. Weird that the tracking data is separate from the headset but it will atleast be fast.

Are you being stupid on purpose?
I'm explicitly talking about an app that uses ARkit of your iphone and passes the data to the pc.
It's not a tech demo level, that shit can be used easily.

And no, there are no good camera to motion data solution available. I know because I checked like an year ago or something.
I'm just surprised that I never heard anyone talking about the apple solution at all.

>>520695684
If someone actually tested it, I want to see the results. Kinect & webcam stuff was way before the neural network boom (i knew about that) and it's made by apple so the quality should be at least half decent.
You can't be sure it faces exactly the same issues unless you try it.
Everyone has an iphone these days, so if it works at least half decently it could easily be a viable solution. 0 expense if you already have an iphone.
Anonymous No.520697285
Iphone X is sub $100.
You can easily put multiple of them in your room and it still will be cheap as fuck.
Use the head position as the source calibration and select the best view dynamically based on the pose/position in the room.

ARkit gives you all the info on a silver platter, it does the hardest part of the work. It should be very easily to implement.

The problem with neural network pose estimation might be the compute requirements. I recall an unreleased Chinese FBT that used a pair of depth sensors, it claimed to be much more accurate than what was possible with the old Kinect/webcam and Microsoft pose estimation method but had a significant performance/VRAM cost when ran on a PC. The company name was something retarded so I can't find the link now but they also had some shitty unreleased FBT software on Steam.

Besides that, Haritora also have a camera tracking add-on for the HaritoraX 2 planned.

I've messed around a bit with camera body tracking. https://github.com/ButzYung/SystemAnimatorOnline was the most worked example I found, which uses mediapipe (2022-era ML) and can output VMC protocol, which apparently is popular for vtuber type stuff. It works okay and is relatively easy to use. However, I don't think there are any fully worked projects to align VMC tracking into a VR playspace and emulate trackers (i.e. make it work in vrchat), nor any projects to align multiple cameras. It's all definitely feasible, just nobody has put it together yet. Also not sure what the SOTA for RGB pose estimation is these days; you can probably do better than mediapipe though.

>Nonverbal Communication Cues
Missing Element: The chart doesn't mention body language, facial expressions, or tone of voice.
Why Important: In in-person or video conversations, these are crucial for gauging comfort, interest, or tension.
Fix:
Where to Add: Right after the node:
“Listen intently and nod head”
Add:
“Assess nonverbal cues (body language, facial expressions, tone of voice)” Adjust tone and response accordingly

>Exit Strategies
Missing Element: No graceful exit flow if a conversation becomes uncomfortable, boring, or inappropriate.
Fix:
Where to Add: From any “No” branch under “Conversation continues?”
Add:
[Is conversation awkward, uncomfortable, or clearly disengaged?]
Yes [Gracefully exit: thank them, change topic, or excuse yourself]
No [Try redirecting to lighter or shared interest topic]

>Adaptability to Personalities
Missing Element: No personality style assessment.
Why Important: Different communication styles require different approaches.
Fix:
Where to Add: After branching into “Type of Discussion” or before humor type selection
Add:
[Assess personality style: introvert/extrovert, analytical/emotional, casual/formal]
Adapt humor, depth, or pace accordingly

>Emotional Safety or Consent
Missing Element: No safety gate before deep topics.
Fix:
Where to Add: Right before “Politics, Religion & Philosophy” and “Future Plans and Goals”
Add:
[Is this topic appropriate based on level of rapport/trust?]
Yes proceed
No pick lighter topic from Entertainment or Biography

>Reflective Listening & Feedback
Missing Element: No mechanism for showing understanding or validation.
Fix:
Where to Add: Alongside or directly after “Listen intently and nod head”
Add:
[Use reflective listening: paraphrase or affirm their point]
Builds trust and shows active engagement

>Follow-up & Continuity
Missing Element: No instruction to retain key conversation details for next time.
Fix:
Where to Add: Just before the final “Closing thoughts and thanks” block.
Add:
[Mentally note key details or follow-up topics for future conversations]

Biggest difference (for me) is that Lower Body is in stock now, while Core is OOS until Jul 31st.

It's funny how much OLEDs are shit on for mura ( when uncorrected ), when the Quest 3 displays have... whatever the hell they have. Large uneven splotches that look like you've got crap on your lenses.
Add the uneven lens vignetting to that and it's a truly jarring experience.
I am willing to sacrifice a lot for OLED of any kind, uncorrected OLED mura is a minor inconvenience in comparison.

What do you mean by "gone"? is the gameobject still there? Is the animator running/inspectable in the Animator window in unity (should see what active states are there. That's not a bad price considering Microsoft's improved Azure version of Kinect with a similar Lidar sensor was and still is over $400. how are you adding the accessories? modular avatar/vrcfury? Does the avatar still work without those accessories added?

>Gone as in none of the actual meshes stay visible
Hmm, that vaguely pattern matches in my mind to "write defaults issues", though that doesn't really help get to the bottom of the problem. How much of the animator is custom? i.e. if you reset all the animators to defaults, does the avatar work fine? (presumably it does but always good to check).
Anonymous No.520724162 Replies: >>520724881 >>520725145

I added them in blender and then updated my fbx, since I don't unpack prefabs I've never had an issue with just overriding the fbx and having it add the new stuff.
Even if I did all it took was a simple pumkin copy over to fix what was broken.

I luckily saved a version without the outfit and accessories and putting this one into play mode does work and animates just fine.

Anonymous No.520725145 Replies: >>520725334

Ok, I'm guessing that when you added the accessories in blender, that changed the paths of the meshes in a way where the existing animator/animations you had for the old avatar end up turning off the mesh renderers for everything (for.. write defaults reasons I guess).

Presuming that your avatar with the accessories but without your existing custom animator layers work as expected, you can either port over whatever you have in your custom animator to a new set of animators/animations, or try to fix up the paths in your existing animators. In current year, there are a bunch of nice modular avatar-like tools that'll do simple toggles/gestures/animation playback for you, so unless you have some real custom shit in there, it may be worth just rebuilding.

I have 6 point slimes. I run them on chest, waist/hip, knees and ankles.
I've tried combining it with Standable (just for shoulders) and I was using the VD FBestimation before.
I tried some exe on github to disable all the tracking points in the FBE on VD for the nodes I have trackers for but couldn't get it to work. Standable's user interface was easier.

That being said, I stopped using estimation and just have untracked shoulders. I think the reason was less to do with performance, and more to do with needing to "learn" how to use the slimes most effectively. First few sessions with them I was constantly fucking with them and resetting my positions and shit. Having to press 2-3 buttons to do it was too much so I stopped using standable or VD's FBE. I could try it again at this point since i'm used to slimin' but I'm not sure it's necessary.

I tried using iphone lidar for some 3d scanning stuff some time ago, and one downside was very low update rate, and then it was correcting itself quite a bit between two updates. No idea if it was related to software itself or not, but my general feel is that lidar either doesn't update very fast, or doesn't read very well and needs multiple attempts to average errors out

Chest/waist/hip moves even when you are just lying down because of breathing (looking at stats in slimevr, they move 2x more than legs).
Legs going to the left/right when doing kicks and having to fast reset when sitting/laying down means you didn't properly calibrate. Reset your proportions to default and do the kneeling auto mounting calibration.
Still don't expect them to be as accurate as vives (I have both and in the end I prefer slimes a little bit more)
Also you might want to try Stay Aligned beta to minimize drift, some people say they don't have to reset when just chilling

Unfortunately not, Boners are pretty barebones in terms of its GMOD nature. Even thruster toggle, one of few things we can control through interactions, only works for all thrusters on the map at once. If you can't solve something with basic mechanical constraints, you can't solve it at all. And then there's also the matter of object parenting affecting behavior of the entire machine depending on who touched them the last, this one kinda sucks as well.

eh, no need to doom too hard about it though, it's still plenty fun to play around those restrictions. it is what it is, and it's far from the worst it could have been

>you'll probably get lots of friends if you can keep some talk up or look like an autistic clueless moeblob if you're not socially competent enough for a talk, then people will friend you because they'll want to help you out
>from this point onwards, join on newly made friends who are probably having random casual hangouts in various times of day through the week

But those random instances tend to be small and scattered, i'm just trying to describe to you how anons get together for random hanging out episodes. Alternatively, keep joining more organized events. Weekend drinks, SEA explo, dancing, mahjong, drawing, list goes on.

You're welcome for beta testing. I was reasonably impressed by the bigshit when I first got it, though the experience was also scuffed by the having to deal with the soft strap and a tangle of headphone wires, having a slightly wrong IPD, and the 3d printed gasket didn't fit right. The bsb2 hopefully rounds off those rough edges.

I've ordered a soft strap + 3d printed gasket because BSB2 arrives with those earlier, so I guess I'll learn your pain soon, kek. Not a big deal as long as universal gasket + halo strap comes over fast enough, and as long as headset itself has some redeeming values. Looking forward to my beta tests.

I was initially impressed with BSB1 but then going back and forth with support through a million different face gaskets that never fit right and IPD changes that didn't really fix my issues with the headset caused me to hate it and shelf it, especially after trying out other headsets released after it.
The "thanks for beta testing here's a $50 coupon towards the next headset, also have fun paying $180 for a mount and a hinge just to use the universal face gasket" shit they pulled also leaves a real sour taste in my mouth towards getting a BSB2.

But after thinking about it, whether IEMS+noise cancelling or off ear spatialization is better just depends on the content. So many VR games don't have HRTF or spatial audio at all so directly beaming the sound to ear drums would be bad. I'd really just like any headset that lets you use both options.

>take out right ear
>switches to "transparency" mode automatically because apple product people decided that was what I wanted
>left ear blasts white noise at max volume because the "transparency" mode doesn't work properly and never did
>there is no way to turn this behavior off

>default behavior is to mix stereo sound down to mono to create fake "specialized" like it's coming from phone speakers
>and also compress the shit out of any audio to "stabilize" volume
>who the fuck thought these were good ideas?

>re the AVP
Apple has some interesting ideas for mixed reality about XR apps existing in a volume of space, but just like everyone else they put zero thought into XR user interfaces and it's very apparent in reviews. Standalone headsets have bluetooth audio. If you're using a wired headset you could bluetooth from your pc. What problems do you have personally? Did you use wired IEMs on the quest? wireless audio can work but there are some caveats, you need:
>standalong wireless receiver that uses proprietary 2.4GHz radios to transmit quickly, or

not by a lot, because the phone will buffer the video slightly to compensate for the latency. But try playing a game, using music software, or anything else that is real-time. It's noticeable even to a casual user.

I finally executed part of a project I've had on the backburner for the past 5 years. I scraped all the vrg threads that exist on b4k's archive. These are all the posts in the threads on vg that have `vrg` somewhere in the subject (which does include some of vrgg, and an occasional v-rising general when that was FOTM; I'll filter it out at some point). I don't have any thumbnails or full images yet, but b4k does have them; will take a while longer to scrape them though. Unfortunately b4k also cuts off at 2019 (thread #613 or so). archived.moe does have some earlier threads, but they don't have search enabled, plus they have the full cuckflare botwall in front so it'll be more work to scrape (suggestions welcome if you've done CF bypass scraping before).

But anyways, it's 910,619 posts in all its glory. Here's a basic posts over time plot. If you want to mess with the data yourself, here it is in 70MB of parquet: https://file.vrg.party/vrg-archive-2025-04-07.parquet .

The thread is /vrg/ before anything else as far as I'm concerned but clearly the wider '/vrg/ community' often encompasses parts of adjacent communities too. Even just on 4chan we have two other threads that can overlap with us because all three are playing the same game. It's not really a surprise that some of those people or others on the periphery would show up in VRChat but not this thread. The bigger the community got the more options people had to find fragments they prefer to be around, unfortunately that means losing some people.
Anonymous No.520863225

A lot of /vrlg/ still browses /vrg/ and some of /vrfg/ does as well. There's clearly some overlap and am glad people still choose to be here and be interested in the trajectory of VR in what weird autistic way we can make it be

Almost finished with doom VFR and this shit is bewildering

Playing this with teleport would be awful. This game came out the year after the oculus touch controllers existed, and they have actually returned to patch the game a couple of times after release years later, but the whole UI is still designed around vive wands and everything is just mapped dirty. For $15, you get an opinion that doom would be good in VR if they just fixed it, made another one, or ported one of the games. I only get in trouble when I forget the button mappings, I guess the combat the easy? It's hard to tell because there's a really odd game design choice of giving you a BFG grenade launcher as a dual weild offhand weapon then dumping BFG ammo in the arena everywhere. So before things get hard you can just delete everything without even a weapon swap. If this were doom eternal I would get raped, but fast FPS works fine in VR to a degree. It's the only game like this over 5 years later right? Pathetic.

Also I've noticed the trend that everything old VR was ruined by the vive wands and it's the reason I completely ignored VR before alyx. It's so dumb even to outsiders why you would not put analog sticks nor face buttons on a controller, It's so bad I want the names of who was responsible.

I never ended up finishing it since something broke smooth movement for me and it wasn't fun without it.

It's probably not what you're looking for, but 1, 2, and 3 are all playable in VR through unofficial ports.
A full port of 2016 using what they'd already done for VFR would've been great though.

I got myself some new pc parts and am considering fully removing windows, just rawdogging Linux even for gaming.
This seems to be fine for non-vr games, but I have a Meta Quest 3 and its cable-based video transmission is "windows-only". I know it has some Linux replacements but I've never tried them myself, nor am I smart enough to coherently benchmark it.
Are any of you running Meta Quest PCVR on Linux? How much does it suck?

Few months back I tried ALVR and WiVRn, both still pretty early to adopt imo, ALVR is nice because they have most of SteamVR functionalities available, but it kinda sucks to use, WiVRn was better to play on but it's really raw, no SteamVR dashboard, inputs need to be configured through a txt file afaik, calibrating lighthouse trackers will have you typing commands in a terminal.

> considering fully removing windows, just rawdogging Linux even for gaming.
Sure, flatscreen been actually really good past few years but VR? Just stick to Windows for this one.
tho nothings is stopping you from trying it out, go check out the lvra wiki if ya got time.

Man my timeline is so fuzzy I didn't even realize that and I bought a steam controller. It's been an eternity. It really has to be some of valve's fault. If they thought only touchpads were a bad idea they should've had the clout to talk htc out of it.

no you dont understand, this was almost 99% guaranteed to be valves idea. they shadow developed the vive.

remember, they made the steam controller. they probably thought it was a great idea.

remember even the index still has the stupid trackpads, they just learned from the massive failure of the vive dildos and what people hated about them, so they rejiggered their significance

Look at his piece of shit. It would have been so fucking useless it's unbelievable. Jesus. Somehow, somehow, a voice of reason told them you have real estate for an analog stick and face buttons do not fucking work like that. So they corrected course for the steam controller, but what the fuck happened with the vive wands?

I also remember hearing alyx was initially teleport only. I think valve has a bunch of gen X sicklets that can't conceive that people can use locomotion they can't.

You realize the Steam controller wasn't meant to be another game controller, right? It was meant to be a bespoke device specifically catered to making KB/M games playable on a couch. You were always meant to just use a regular controller for games that supported that. Unfortunately nobody understood that fact and shat on it for not being yet another XBox controller clone.
Now granted I agree that the touchpads on Vive wands were shit, maybe they were just trying to offload stock or maybe they actually thought they'd be more useful in VR who knows. They might have thought we'd deal with more floating desktop UIs or custom mapped things or some shit that would work better on a trackpad.

> archived.moe does have some earlier threads, but they don't have search enabled, plus they have the full cuckflare botwall in front so it'll be more work to scrape
I also had a project similar to yours in mind and wondered if I could get past that shit with selenium or something like that.

As in, ratio of phrase hits against all posts for a given period?

>>520916227
guess all you can see is how it's a rather recent development in general shitposting

Can you fine tune the results for trashnig even more to look for hotspots in terms of active time windows? EG; correlate activity to a certain timezone
Anonymous No.520917132
left partway thru but gamenight was fun
glad i worked up the courage to go

Nah, sorry anon, won't go that far. Got my little script that groups data per time period and plots out hits for a phrase in comment content, that's about it.

though not gonna lie, grouping per timezone seems like a fun concept, might give it a shot later

if you say so, I'm not reading angry shitposts too much so I might be ignorant in the ways of saying trashnig(GER). Here's 'trashnig[space]' for you, and the respective prototrashnig.

edit, looking at it now, it seems like going back in time reveals more of this phrase flying around when I seek manually by ctrl+f through previous threads. I might be putting too much faith in how data is sorted in my structures, so those might not be first ones to say those phrases after all.

Aw.
