Calling all Photography Enthusiasts.

/vrg/'s first KINO PHOTO GALLERY EXHIBIT is opening on June 14

Any and all VR photographers are invited to send 6 of their most kino photos or make new ones to send.

The photos we are looking for should be KINO or CINEMA. Contrasted with the Vault which focused on "Memories". This one aims to focus on the ARTISTRY.
Please use this as an opportunity to pick up VR photography as a hobby or aim for perfection as you hone your craft and share in a gallery of fellow photography enthusiasts in VIRTUAL REALITY.

You can send in whatever you want. It'll be compiled into a segment of your own wall as the photographer.
Note images are compressed into 1080p for the map's purposes but you can send 4K images if need be.

(optional) place a title for each of your piece/gallery

Check the world out, this is what we are targeting

Hello /vrg/!
Just recently started a new dance activity, this is inspired by the Japanese folk style "Yosakoi" but with a few twists:
> Non planned instances, we train this whenever we feel like it or others are online, more like a training dojo than dance lessons
> Aim to progress first and foremost, this will actually be difficult (but absolute beginners are dancing will always be welcome!)
> Cool avatar special effects that requires technical inputs
Not convinced? here is a demo on an easy song: https://streamable.com/h9ewyy
Here's a *new* demo on a less easy song: https://streamable.com/j4ysfu
Want more infos? Everything to know is written over there: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1m6DHeP7rt538M18IdRz6fAGeD_hIQvGJgBc7CtrWpTo/edit?usp=sharing
Hope to see (you) in the Yosavr dojo!

About non planned instances since it seems people have been confused about it:
I see this as "getting practice as priority, gathering is an eventual extra", so you are always free to start or join an instance at any given time. If you want a bit of guidance for a start, I'm usually doing 45min-1h training everyday somewhere around 18:00CET (+/- 1h), tho this week I won't be home for tuesday->friday

Oh yeah, agreed with you, that's definitely forbidden for this one imo. No AI touchups that essentially "paints" over and infills parts with totally new content.

Imo the anon >>522807830 here has it correct. JP twitters usually only use lighting touchups

You mean like a collage? That sounds fair and is still human based recreational artistry using photography.
Hard mode: You place those images as summonable world-fixable props within your avatar

VRCLens, maybe? Before VRC updated their camera with stuff like blur and such, there used to be stuff like VRCLens, an advanced camera you install on your avatar as an object. It was pretty sweet, it had touchscreen autofocus point selection, electronic level and grid visible on camera, depth of field blur was way better than what we have in current VRC (unless my memory fails me at this point, hard to find a direct comparison). On the downside, it was performance heavy.

I'm not really sure what's the current state of things in terms of custom VRC cameras, but I kinda miss it. Would love to get spoonfed with some latest updates.

I think it's in gumroad store right now the latest version. Talked with the creator of VRClens before and he said booth.pm does not allow withdrawal to his country's banks so he took it down from booth.

Getting increasingly more mad with every old photo I see, and I clearly remember setting general quality of camera output to low-ish settings because my PC back then couldn't handle VRCLens at full power. Look at this, zero overlap between out of focus and parts in focus, no weird rim around the character that happens so often with VRC cam, so nice

EU Assetto Corsa: European Racing club
Race 96

18:00 UTC 20:00 CEST, 12th of May

You know what is happening? 6 hours of SPA! We are going to have our own matching event - 0.6 Hours of Spa! It's a 2 class race again. GT3 and LMP!

45 minute practice
10 minutes qualifiers
36 minutes race

PLEASE DON'T BE LATE!

Afterwards we are continuing to explore Santa Monica Mountains. This times spawn: Stunt road.

Assetto - can be played with wheel, controller, or steam-vr-wheel addon, it doesn't matter, we will all have fun driving together. If you just bought Assetto - grab Assetto Corsa Content Manager - a better launcher and mod manager: https://assettocorsa.club/content-manager.html To install mods: just drag and drop zip files from mega onto the Content Manager windows and click on the hamburger menu on top right. Highly recommend installing stable custom shader patch and 7-zip plugin in Content manager.

For communication we'll use mumble at voice.vrg.party port 64738, as it doesn't need any registrations or logins.
https://www.mumble.info/

I can't recommend enough Crew Chief
https://thecrewchief.org/
He's a helpfull AI fellow in the pits who'll provide you information about your car, your opponents, yell at you or try to encourage you. And most importantly, he will spot for you, in case you have a car in you blind spot.

UI radar are immersion breaking and basically cheating, but this guy will tell you verbally if someone is there on your right. Download, install, select Assetto Corsa in game list, press "Start application" and it should work!

It also replaces some of camera features with their own behaviors, for example locking camera anchor to the world requires you to use a radial menu. Not the end of the world, not the most pleasant change either.

anyway, highly recommended, out of focus rendering is to die for, and it strikes a good balance between imitating real camera's behavior while still being tiny little VRC camera thingy

Last thing, i'll complain to no ones surprise that these controllers have some fucked up engineering decisions. everything is hard to replace. if one thing breaks, it takes so much effort to repair it, having to take apart so much to get in there. the quality of plastic doesn't seem right, a lot of it is brittle. even the metal parts, which i think is cast magnesium or aluminum, has a lot of points where it would break easily. I don't think i would have done much better but god damn.

What do you mean by touchpad? If you mean the capacitive "is a thumb there?" sensor it is very unreliable for me. Annoying since having good control over your gestures actually matters in vrchat.

And when I tried to RMA a controller Meta told me I would have to ship it to them first then wait 2-3 weeks for a refurbished replacement.

As much as I hate to admit it, the Quest 3 is a quality headset. However, the strap is ass and the face gasket puts too much pressure on my face and hurts after not too long. What are some upgrades I can get to fix this? Preferably including a face gasket with a nose cover to deal with the huge gap.

Kiwi pro strap if you like the Index style, Bobo if you like a Halo. As to aftermarket interfaces, I have the AMVR one which does a great job of blocking light and not being overly hot, but lacks an adjustable depth so when I have the entire weight crushing the padding, my eyes end up hitting the lenses which isn't great so I'd at least rule that one out. You also should invest in some Knucklestraps for the controllers if you're gonna use them, the Kiwi ones are great and even have a flap to make swapping the battery not require disassembling everything.

No, the lighthouse has to be static for the tracking to work, it's basically just powered marker. Lighthouse tracking is inside out so the the device tracks the markers, if you put the marker inside the device it obviously doesn't work. There's no reason to believe Valve will do lighthouse tracked anything ever again.

if you want wireless meme then Bobo M3 Mini + B100U Battery Upgrade Kit (and spare batteries+dock if you want hot-swapping)
If not then Kiwi is fine, but I did notice when I had the Q2 version that the plastic yellowed quite fast, and I do really like the M3 Mini's honeycomb pad option, it grips your head better which helps support the weight of the headset.

It's certainly an option but even alone the M3 mini is a bit better made than the Kiwi and might be a worthwhile option if you're willing to spend the extra, and the extra weight the Bobo adds isn't too bad if you're not whipping your head around a lot, it works as a nice counter-balance to the more front-heavy Quest 3

Not sure I agree with better made vs the K4, but I also heavily disagree with adding more weight to the straps. Maybe it's because I was coming from an Index, but the Q3 doesn't feel front heavy at all with the K4 strap and it's backpiece even lightly strapped down. The relatively shallow amount if extends off your face compared to previous headsets really does a great job of reducing the feeling of weight.

someone told brad that recently
>>522856338
Thinking about it I think I understand the claim now. So it's not a lighthouse that does a flat laser sweep and really calling it "lighthouse" is misleading. But brad has videos on patents and quad photodiodes that can tell the direction of an emitter, and how they can be used with polarizers so only certain diodes can see certain emitters so the system can identify each. Basically I take that to mean it's like a quest where you're tracking IR leds, but instead of using computer vision you use these diodes, and the emitters are on the headset for some reason. Or it could be both the headset and controllers have a mix of each. For all this to work without base stations though you still need camera computer vision SLAM

I absolutely stand by the M3 Mini being a better quality strap overall. Don't get me wrong, I liked the Kiwi when I was using it with my Quest 2 (and it's by far and away better quality than the generic chinkshit straps that come from 6 letter brands) but the thin strips of plastic behind the attachment points feel far more robust on the M3 Mini than on the Kiwi, and while I absolutely hate that the M3 Mini isn't properly color matched to the Quest 3 plastic it at the very least has not yellowed like the Kiwi strap did.

Tried QPro and tracking felt a bit off sometimes, I also couldn't quite do certain poses with having hands behind my back for an extended period of time, and I like those poses a lot. It also kinda jumped every now and then, though that could be related to lighting conditions. Had it on head for less than an hour though, maybe some of the issues I had could be resolved with experience.

You do you, but i think lighthouse system is mostly getting shit for things that could be resolved with improving your general setup.

i used lighthouse tracking for most of my hours on vr, with a pulley system, thinking idc ab wireless. now i dont care ab wireless bc i dont have to think ab it. even still my lighthouses are setup for trackers and its alr ig? noticeably less accurate tho.
also qpro doesnt have the issue of messing up being behind ur back so idk what u mean ab that.

Let's look towards the low end of the list where latency is lowest:
>PC Monitors
>Vive Pro
>BSB
>Index
>Terry App ultra-barebones functionally-unusable runtime for Quest

Now let's look towards the upper end of the latency measurements:
>Quest Pro
>Quest 3
>Pico 4

And if we look at the difference between the worst and best latencies it's roughly 100ms, more than enough for humans to tell the difference. Golly jeepers it sure as shit seems like wired has perceptibly less latency in general, definitely more than 2-4ms.
Did you forget how to read what is allegedly your own fucking chart, anon?

However in all of those circumstances, you simply can't beat a fucking wire for reliability. Everyone knows this and it holds true in basically every circumstance. The only way valve can sell it to anyone is 4k x 4k screens, good lenses, eye tracking and good wireless solution with optional display port.

You'll likely be able to sideload any Quest game (that's why Valve has been working on Waydroid) along with any x86_64 game (that's why Valve is working on FEX). The library is guaranteed to be much larger than any standalone headset yet.
2K per eye instead of 4K enables energy savings, much like the Deck is only 720p where many competitors advertise their 1080p screens as better, despite eating through battery and so being worse for the usecase.
But yeah, I wanted 4K per eye. Now I'm having a hard time deciding between buying a Play For Dream now or waiting for Moohan.

It's fine for games, and probably the best trade-off Valve can make at the moment, but I want a headset for productivity too. With Vision Pro being a closed ecosystem, the Visor being vaporware, Play For Dream having imperfect passthrough ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwrswjEirQo ) and not using proper OpenXR at the moment, Moohan not having any details out yet, a 4K per eye Deckard would have been the perfect device for me. A real/hackable linux by default (not Android/VisionOS), using standards, with an optional x86->arm/windows->linux compat layer on top sounds like a dream.
Hey, maybe in 2030, when Valve is done with Fremont and the Deck 2... With a bit of luck the SimulaOS guys will have survived until then as well and I'll have choice between two headsets instead of just one as well.

These specs are for proof of concept, not a hardware validation test or something more final. It's probably a reference platform/SoC with similar architecture to ensure they can even do what they're aiming to do. In other words, all you can really glean from this is that:
>ARM-based (most likely Snapdragon of some sort) (ew)
>SLAM tracked
>Eye tracking
Resolution, panel type, specific SoC etc. can all significantly change because none of those things are necessary to nail down for a proof of concept. This is the VR HMD equivalent to that Steam Deck prototype that recently sold on EBay.

It wouldn't make sense for Valve to make the deckard 4K per eye though. The qualcom chip would die attempting to render games at that resolution and the battery would evaporate.
I think it'll mostly be in the BSB2 range, with better framerate at maximum resolution.
I hope I'm wrong and it's 4K though. But I'm expecting it not to be.

Oh I agree, anyone who thinks you can do 4k per eye on mobile slop hardware is delusional. I'm just saying people complaining that it's LCD or a specific resolution aren't paying attention to what this actually confirms. I'd say best we could hope for is maybe similar panels to the BSB2 or similar. With eye tracking cameras it's likely going to go for foveated rendering of some sort, and if we assume some next-gen XR3 or XR2 Gen 3 or something platform then expecting a slightly better res than Quest 3 is reasonable.

How do I preserve physbones when exporting from blender via CATS?

Physbones are a component added in unity. Do you mean the bone objects the physbone components are placed on is gone? You can use Pumkin's tools to copy components from a model you have set up to a fresh one if the bones still have the same name and order.

Sort of. So what happens is all the physbones stay in tact but the actual bone they are supposed to connect to get reset to "none" (idk why this happens at all) this only happens when exporting the fbx and importing it to unity.

If the bone is reset to none, that means either the bone it was meant to transform is gone, or it removed it anyways because if the root transform is set to none, it will manipulate the bone its directly on.

I looked back in time and it seems CATS deleted a bunch of bone when I "fix model" and those bones were the source of those physbone objects. Sadly this means I have to restart everythign because I made a bunch of model edits after the fix model and I have no way to undo the deleted bones. Very frustrating, just gonna give up and try again another day from scratch

There's a couple convenient tools CATS has, but you need to use a modern fork of it to run on modern Blender. I like it's convenient button for merging bones to parent, and for a lazy fbx export button that automatically unchecks leaf bones and sets the unit scale right.

Target customers are not on Vive Pro 2 or Beyond. They are aiming for Index users looking for an upgrade or would-be Quest users who want something better. There are also the rumors the focus won't even necessarily be VR but flat gaming on a large virtual screen. Keep in mind this will also likely be as tinkerable as Steam Deck is, not a locked down walled-garden like Quest 3.

If you don't see how a more open platform has way more potential then you're an idiot. It could have the exact same hardware as Q3 and it would still be better for being an open platform.

Imagine a Quest where some autist dev wrote a background service that runs alongside e.g. Steam Link or such that enables two-way communication with SteamVR in such a way that it gets the location and shape of your PCVR playspace, calculates an offset between that and your internal headset playspace only once, and then just keeps everything aligned. No more calibration dance just pick up and go, both playspaces already in-sync. No extra trackers needed. Hell it could even potentially import controller or tracker positions from your PC SteamVR playspace so you don't have to swap controllers to interact with internal menus or could even potentially use your PCVR trackers in on-device games. It's a niche use case but technically possible when two platforms can be written to be fully inter-compatible. The sky is the limit.

Yeah, I've kinda been slacking since the times I asked for impressions on headsets that don't have much detail there, no one seemed interested in helping, and I hate just pulling details from a review site. If you or anyone else is willing to help by doing a small writeup, I can edit it and throw it in.
The whole thing needs plenty of updates and some reformatting anyways, I'll hopefully get around to that before too much longer, but I did just try to do what I could to fix the PSVR2 section for now.

I do try to fix stuff and add missing info occasionally when something in the thread reminds me to, but I really need to do more of a rewrite and source extra headset details from the thread for stuff I haven't used.

id like to hear about the software if it isnt too much trouble, its not like im getting a 4 but i recently ordered a pico neo 3 link for cheap and im waiting for it to arrive; i was under the impression the pico 4 and quest 3 had very similar specs down to the SoC, pancake lenses, etc. with the pico 4 having a slight edge over things like the binocular overlap.
i also had the choice of picking up a pico 4 instead for the same price but i wanted to try out wired vr first... only previous experience i had with vr was with a quest 1 and it was more trouble than it was worth. alvr kept dropping out and i couldnt use a decent router due to the lack of modern wifi tech support on the headset

Anything specific? It's similar to Quest in a lot of ways, since you had experience with that, just less polished and more barebones feeling. Everything from menus to the environments are just more simple overall, and of course there's the usual chinesium of random obscure options being in Chinese even when English is selected. Hand tracking is there and similar to Quest's but again a little more barebones and feels less polished (perfectly serviceable though). Where it really falls short is games and apps. Some are updated for Pico 4 some are still from older versions like Pico 3 and are blurry and sound worse because they weren't tuned for the better res/speakers. There are a lot of games but it's a toss-up what sort of quality you get, and obviously you lack Quest exclusive stuff (which is some of the best stuff, honestly)

Pico 4 is same SoC as Quest 2, not 3, but with pancake and better res. Pico 4 Ultra is the Quest 3 competitor with basically same everything as Q3.

To the anons I’ve spoken with about this moment in the past. I truly believe it’s happening. If conventional communication channels go down in the Pacific region, you can find us on 14.195 USB. Mind your manners, as this is a public calling frequency. One of us will provide a working channel from there. Stay safe.

i see. yeah its hard to find any actual info on the UX online as the ls are more of a niche product in an already niche market, thank you.

that being said i cant imagine the picoxr software to be an even worse experience than what i had (bar the strange 100ms mic delay...?), on the quest 1 most of the menus are simply broken, or close immediately after opening, on top of most games being made for the later headsets and refusing to load

as for the games, there are the obscure russian ports as i mentioned which i havent seen many people bring up anywhere; im not familiar with the standalone game experience with Quest headsets, but are there any multiplayer exclusives for them? i would think they would be the one thing the picos theoretically wouldn't have access to as they'd be pirated and likely not allowed to go online...? just extrapolating what i know about pc games to this. i dont even know the level of compat that can be achieved or the quality of ports going around.

ill share the links while im at it:
>Meta Quest -> PicoXR Game Ports

>Pico 4 Ultra is the Quest 3 competitor with basically same everything as Q3.
i dont know how much it costs for you but for me it'd be like $150 more to get a P4U over a Q3 while the original Pico 4 would be half the asking price of the latter... its hard to see them as real competition, on top of them not being available in the US...

Overall the experience is fine, it's not broken it just feels kinda lacking somehow. The mic seems to have some sort of built-in noise gate so I assume that's where the delay comes from. I have no idea if any of this is the same on the Pico Neo 3 Link also, aside from the software in general that should be pretty similar.

I didn't try playing any multiplayer pirated stuff so no idea how that affects anything, as for multiplayer exclusives, none that come immediately to mind. Even their little wii-sports clone kinda game is on Quest now I believe. I guess there's that one Blitz Rhythm game maybe?

I didn't look much at Pico 4 Ultra since I already had a Quest 3

They wanted to use their nanachi avatar for the screenshot. Back then nanachi's weren't seen as big of an issue.
Honestly nanachi's aren't the furry type that triggers my furry meters. The face is very human still there's even no dog/cat nose thing.

Honestly I have so many good VRClens photos of anons thanks to the photographers during the gravure session it's sort of sad I couldn't go and photoshop all of them. Only getting 10% before admitting I couldn't finish it just by the amount of work necessary.

You have trial worlds for both of them, give it a shot and report back with findings. Unless I'm wrong, VL2 was mostly an old SDK thing back in times when blurring out parts of the image outside of your DoF was an unavailable premium, and then it kinda disappeared, but who knows, maybe it got some nice updates.

Can definitely recommend VRCLens, but got no direct comparison with current versions of both things.

I'm noticing a lot of unitypackage assets that come from a japanese creator say to use "ModularAvatarのインポート"
to upload the asset. Apparently this is just japanese equivalent of VRC Fury. I've always just had VRC Fury will that also upload the asset the same way or? they don't really mention VRCF at all since they just use modular

ModularAvatar and VRCFury do essentially the same thing, messing around with avatar non-destructively at build-time rather than destructively in the scene. You can use both in the same project and avatar usually; might be some edge cases but for example I've used gogoloco + some modularavatar accessories and it works.

Generally speaking, VRCFury seems to run after Modular has done its thing, so as long as you don't do anything with VRCFury that needs to be in place on the avatar before your Modular Avatar components it should mostly work.

join game lobbies (standalone like walkabout minigolf, or game instances in vrchat). You get an activity to talk about both in the moment and when you see the same people in purely social instances. Second easiest are the world exploration events, which you also get something ambient to talk about.

Just wear a booth or game rip avatar and say you're from the thread. If you do that it's pretty much impossible to fuck up.
We tend to hate furries, TDA's, or eboys, and see them as strong bad taste / outsider / negative intelligence signals. If you've really been lurking for any length of time, you must have at least picked that up.

I'd agree that game lobbies help since there's something to focus on and you have an excuse to interact with people plus VR games are fun, but either way, you just have to try until it clicks.

I'm in the middle of Q3 controller surgery. Wanted to replace the stick to fix some drift on my right hand.
The guide I'm following suggested after getting the board back on to test the controller before finishing assembly.
My stick is not sitting directly center in the meta software, (it is stable though so drift setting could cover this, it's like just beyond center down to the right), and it almost seems worse than the one I just replaced when I run through it's full range of motion.
The replacement kit I bought came with 2, should I try the other stick?

OR, is it possible the controller is not behaving correctly because the faceplate is off, the bluetooth antenna isn't connected yet?
I'm pretty sure I got the ribbons in correctly

I'm not sure if the first stick was fucked (replacement stick I mean, the OG definitely was) or if I had the spring in kinda wonky. Either way it's working rn so I'm reassembling.
when the left controller gets drift I'm fucked or I need another replacement kit now though since 1/2 of the sticks was bad, or might be bad.

there is definitely some sort of hybrid tracking going on.
if you have hand tracking turned off, and pick up say, your left controller to wake it from sleep, and then you look at your right hand the Q3 will try to pretend your hand is a controller for a second or two before it realizes it's a hand.

but they also have IR lights like the Q2
I know they up to something though cuz if you have the headset on but controllers have fallen asleep it sometimes jumps the 3d model of the controller into you hand

If that is true then people would be a more randomized type of map where people congregate in.
Having a type of map being commonly where people are is a pattern than supports there are differences between maps that make it so people preferably go there

QPro went little down in price so now isn't bad time to get one, once the unsold stock goes away it will probably go up over 1k because there simply won't be any new ones.

dude it's been 4 fucking years since someone took that screenshot. I did not take the pics, we had gravure photographers.

If it's not a nanachi type model then thank you for the clarification. I'm not an expert on furry stuff, they kinda rook the same these small nanachi type stuff.

You'll get different vibes depending on where you go, vrg isn't a very cohesive group. If you are a long time lurker, is there any activity, events, worlds, or even pictures posted in the thread that gave you interest?
