This Event Is Dedicated to the Brave Mujahideen Fighters of /vrg/

Mash'allah Habibi's. On the 21st of June (it has been arbitrarily decided), there will be an event for our brothers. Please dress up appropriately in your most inspiring gear and equipment, gifted from Allah.

We shall purge any infidels pretending to be men and attempting to taint the sacriledge of masculinity. There will be a picture commemorating our time together as the true warriors of Allah, and the ones who carry on Muhammeds (PBUH) legacy. Ayna al-maktaba.

That's really cute! There are a lot of fun vrc-adjacent things to do over in Japan. I'm jealous of the stuff they have.

There's also a cool bar over in Osaka run by a vrc guy. He had a bunch of vrc decor and he had vrc music videos playing on the tv, some of which he recorded himself. If you're ever in the area I'd definitely recommend a visit. There's a big guestbook full of signatures from vrc people, find me in it!

ayyyy everyone! :3

I was doing some thinking today in vrc, and it gave me an idea after playing some video game worlds with some anons recently, would it be a cool idea someday if I host some kind of instance where we explore video game related stuff. I do have a list of some ideas like Nintendo (pic related), TF2, Silent Hill, and even some playable stuff like Doom, Prop Hunt, and even that classic Home Run Contest from SSB. I'll be happy to do an AMA or whatever for a few hours if anyone is curious.

first rule of thumb when hosting something
state the time and day first, then modify according to anons complaints and responses. otherwise youll never get any proper response beyond "yeahhh i mean could do wed or thurs or sat" etc from anyone
post and host, and they will come

Consider posting a poal.me with a few possible dates and times (and open it to new responses).

Ever since hiroshimoot's 15 minute first post timers, it's harder to get just casual replies to gauge interest, vs a poll you can just click.

as someone who hosts stuff, believe me, it's not as much of a great idea as it sounds. at best you'll get two responses, at worst you'll get it shitposted with bullshit entries.

build it and they will come, then ask ones who came about it in game. anon says 7p est, now he should shill it so everyonr knows, then host it, see if anyone joins, finally post some photos of people having fun. after that, just wait for genuine 'the hell, this looks fun, how do i join', and then reconsider dates if there's lots of anons thirsty for fun.

not that i'm against the poalme idea, feel free to try, but one of few things host has to do is make a solid call and only readjust based on genuine responses from hyped people

you can do it, host anon, a tiny bit of decisiveness and you're golden. don't bother with consensus, it's impossible around here

i uhhhhh. yeah anon, h-haha

Shinjuku is absolutely SWARMED with black touts. They're targeting exclusively tourists, trying to scam them into overpriced pubs and girls. Literally swarmed, every night, every single street, every single corner, there's a group of 3-5 black touts who are constantly trying to chat you up with good english, trying to shake your hand, sometimes patting your back. I just go instant 'no thank you' and that solves the issue, but still, the bad taste remains. But for what it's worth, I'll give them tiny bit of a credit for behaving in a semi-civilized way and looking somewhat decent in fancy clothes, at least given that their job is probably luring you into big trouble. I don't feel unsafe, they still play along with general Japanese culture of not being an ugly lowlife. Horrible stuff though, I'm from central Europe and I've literally never seen as many blacks around as I do here

I mean, to be fair, im more concerned about the interest anons would have. the date doesn't have to be perfect, I understand that. If i expect barely anyone to join, that's fine, it's just right now, i'm just wondering if I should just do it in the first place and see what happens honestly. Maybe if I get great results, then maybe I'll do it again if I feel like it, we'll see ig.

Good approach. I can see you're kind of an consensus-based person, so just wanted to warn you that this stuff won't do here. You have to act like it's your thing decide, make a loud and clear call, and only respond when actual anons in game tell you that something could be done better. Don't get discouraged on first week either, love your handful of anons who took their time to join you, post threadly reminders about the event, and make sure to take some photos so you can post them in thread and attract more people for the next week. People who genuinely want to join will go out of their way as long as it's possible for them to join, people who don't really care, well, you're better off without them, they'd just spoil the mood.

I think you have a good idea for the event, i'll br rooting for you. And if it won't work out, oh well, no big deal, you did what you could and you definitely shouldn't beat yourself over it. Don't worry about anything.
Anonymous No.524325697 Replies: >>524326419
>>524323329
Sure, that sometimes works too, but it's nice to get at least some precommitment to new ideas before you like sit in an empty instance for 30 minutes, log off, then get a few (You)s later saying "oh I forgot that was happening" or "ree I was waging". t. have also hosted a lot of stuff over the years.

I will say 7pm ET is a particularly cursed timeslot these days; I still don't understand entirely why exactly but current year vrg is heavily west-coast biased. 10pm is the earliest.

>>524324832
I'd give it a few days at least to gauge interest, through replies or poll votes or whatever. The other anon's advice that you should just wing it is still valid of course, but you'll have to be prepared to entertain yourself with some solo exploring to start.

The original host for those 2022 sessions is currently wagecucked to death, but I (cohost) could still get the world id for new instances if you wanted. It wasn't much but still had like some kana flashcards and a whiteboard and video player. There are of course other jp learning worlds you could use too, ranging from the barebones "every single page of minna no nihongo on a pickup" to worlds with a bunch of nice jp labels for props (and a cinematic 24fps frame rate to match).

Having a weird as fuck issue and unsure what can cause it. I have a quest version of my main avatar that I made and it's intended to be the fallback for it so questies can see my main avatar (mostly). The thing is I upload it and it gives no errors however when I ask a quest friend what it looks like they say it's "sunk into the ground". The PC one is fine for PC users. I have no idea what can be causing this, everything in unity seems to be okay and doesn't give errors.

What's odd is I tried logging in to VRC on my android phone (so I can see what the avatar looks like for android side) and it looks fine to me, no sinking issue but when others see it they see the issue. So lost.. Halp

I mean... is it sunk into the ground in unity, especially when you run it in Gesture Manager or AV3 Emulator? Have you tried just uploading your quest avatar as a PC avatar and playing it directly? Does the view-ball move down or just the avatar? What do you see if you try to FBT calibrate the quest avatar?

Messing up your transform positions is not going to produce an error, its entirely possible you moved the avatar descriptor gameobject up inside unity then moved the armature or hips down to compensate.

If the quest avatar only fucks up when used as a fallback it probably has a different scale or transform than the main avatar somewhere. You should walk the entire tree of game objects and ensure every transform is the same.

hi, so, my cord was exploding for my valve index and I bought a new cord, should I just stick the clips where they were before or is that a newb thing? I swear I remember reading that where valve puts them by default makes the cable prone to fail

That's too bad. Udon is so limited and production values obviously aren't great with VRchat games. More games with actual story, voice acting, gameplay etc. like Gal Gun 2 would be ideal. At least Swery porting Death Game Hotel to PC is something.

Every single JP VR game has been mediocre, horribly optimised, way too niche to sell or had control scheme made by someone who never played VR. This is also true for most of their VRC games.
JP indies simply lack the talent to make VR game that has any level of polish, big studios don't give shit about VR unless Sony or Facebook pay for it and small studios would rather make some Switch or phone game that will pay the bills than go bankrupt with VR game that will sell 1000 copies if lucky.

>Stan Larroque, Founder of XR hardware company Lynx, confirmed in a recent X post the he’s actually seen the design for Valve’s next XR headset.
>Larroque tells Road to VR that Valve Deckard won’t compete against Lynx’s upcoming hardware, as they separately “address two different markets [and] price points.”
>Still, beating around the bush somewhat, Larroque tells us Valve and Lynx “might share suppliers for some components,” which definitely smells like a supply chain leak
>Furthermore, he tells Road to VR that he’s heard that mass production and eventual availability is slated for 2026, which differs slightly from a previous report wherein leaker and data miner ‘Gabe Follower’ alleged Deckard would arrive by the end of 2025, priced at $1,200.

ATTENTION EVERYONE

Look, i feel you anon. I know you find our latest schizo hilarious, I know your hands are itching to provide a reasonable argument that would prove without a doubt he's mentally unstable. But we all know that, I know that, you know that, even casual lurkers know that. Recently, in a very pathetic way, he admitted that the only thing that keeps him going is the illusion of making a difference, you falling for it and giving him a response is the only thing that gives him any feeling of control over his sad life. He won't give up because you've shown everyone he's a clown, he knows that. Why entertain it, given that he's annoying?

Next time you see our schizo, i'd like to propose the following behavior:
>don't respond
>if you really want to respond, respond with 'shut up nigger'. Just those three words, 'shut up nigger', a magic spell that makes everything better

Let's make thread a better place. Don't feed the troll, he likes being proven wrong, it's still better than being ignored.

I take it you mean hotswappable. I think it's because when you add hotswappable batteries you need a battery slot, some plastic housing and physical space all to put it in. For example it might not fit in an index controller, or at least it'd have to be bigger. Battery life would go from 8 hours to 20 hours on a single charge but physically they're bigger. They also still need to be recharged. I think it's mostly a space issue though; the little pillow batteries come in a rnage of shapes and can just be slotted into smaller devices.

yes but id need to buy and figure out how to work these 'USB power bank modules' they sell on aliexpress that are small enough to fit inside the bobovr puck. i actually have one of those that just take 2 18650 batteries but they too big to fit inside the bobovr puck.

i kinda considered just putting the module thing on the back of my vr headset but i kinda feel like it would be too awkward to switch out batteries while wearing it.

also pic related i spot-welded the 2 new batteries to the small PCB that was on the old ones, connected everything and tested its charging. now im gonna wrap them in tape and put the whole puck back.

I've made custom power banks from the USB modules before and it is basically just wiring it up and that is it. Connect battery to poles and then plug in a USB cable and it charges. Hardest thing is getting the polarity right

>>524396849
one of the main reasons the bobovr pucks work well is polarity is not an issue. and 18650s are too symmetrical to do them by touch reliably.

it would be cool if they made a polarity-agnostic power bank module but its too niche of a use case and a cheap implementation of it would be terrible energy-inefficient i think

>>524397161
you could easily charge em 10W+ per individual 18650 i think they are rated for 4-5A. you mainly lose capacity if you discharge them fast. you can google sony vtc6 discharge curve, some test i found says it gets 11.005Wh at 0.5A and 10.737Wh at 2A so theres some efficiency loss

There's Vox Machinae, which does the slow stompy mechs pretty well; it's unfortunately effectively (dead) multiplayer-only, though they have some sort of single player campaign now too . Iron Rebellion is newer and while I personally haven't tried it, it's apparently good at fast floaty mechs. You can also play MW5 in VR with a mod, though I found the performance bad and the systems a bit too autistic for my taste.

Right now, light volumes are cool, but they're volumetric light all around you.

I've experimented with giving them more directionality by using the original world lighting as the shadowed side's color, but nothing has been a perfect solution. It's hard to derive directions from the light in many cases to generate a consistently good-looking light and shadow.

WIP to make it not feel like all the lighting comes from all sides.

In many cases the light wraps around you in a way that doesn't feel great because the volume data isn't perfect for telling you where the light is coming from.

Here's an example of the general toon approach so far vs an attempt at more directionality. For a lot of anime-style models, this wouldn't work well because it'd give you more of a 3d feel than you'd generally like, but it's a step in the right direction.

Someone complained I was posting trash, and realistically they're right I should probably post here

Trades seem more likely at high ping too. At least that's how it feels to me when I play on NA.
But this is mostly a moot point because the effect is still somewhat subtle at 96 ping or whatever he had. 150+ is where it gets particularly noticable and when SEAniggers show up the netcode might as well be a dice roll at times.

Even low ping ~24 still has a noticable peeker effect that punishes holding predictable angles so there's no latency where it feels well synced.
Rubberbanding is both a potential advantage and disadvantage in Pavlov but doesn't happen on stable connections or until much higher latency.
Hit reg issues we all suffer from when there's a high ping difference; Gem used to record the stats and the more NAs played the more hit reg related errors spiked for everyone.

for any current or future Linux VR users out there that have or are considering a Beyond/2/2e: You can get the Bigscreen Beyond Driver working pretty easily:
>Enable and use a recent version of Proton with below env var available (10+ should be fine)
>set `PROTON_ENABLE_HIDRAW=0x35BD/0x0101 %command%` as launch arg
>copy SteamVR Windows install somewhere in the prefix (ie: C/ root) under appid 2467050's pfx
the SteamVR Windows install has paths the tool is hardcoded to expect, as it does not think the Linux SteamVR install is valid; this enables a few of the tool's features like refresh mode swapping and brightness control
that said, if you're in 75hz mode on the device you can just pick modes via an env var on an Envision profile much more easily:
>XRT_COMPOSITOR_DESIRED_MODE=0 for 75hz
>XRT_COMPOSITOR_DESIRED_MODE=1 for 90hz
I don't know why no one tried this before, but turns out it that's all we needed
its not used for that much configuration overall, but might be handy with the IPD slider on the 2/2e models and firmware updates
removes another reason I even had my Windows install laying around...

I mean, it'd be great for people like us, but it'll be too expensive for most people to care, and they'll all just complain that the game is a VR game instead of a flat one.
They'd have to basically give the headset away and release an entire VR Orange Box for it to change much of anything, and even then I'm still not sure it'd convince people that aren't already at least somewhat interested in VR.

Left4Dead 3 or an orange box but the games are playable in both VR and flat would be ideal. Flat players seeing VR users waving, taunting and flipping them off will at the very least tempt them into getting VR in a way that TV ads and VR only games can't. It also augments the VR playerbase so one guy in a friend group buying into VR can still play with his friends.

It's slowly chugging along. Lots of really good single player stuff but the multiplayer focused games are either dead, small and dedicated, or quest exclusive and full of kids. For the most part it takes a fair bit of searching to find that killer game you have been looking for. Most of them already exist but are barely advertised or mentioned. The hard part is finding someone to play with. Even here.
You were right about the quest harming vr but it was because of the parents buying it for their 10 year old kids, not so much because of hardware constraints. Especially now that the quest 3 is old hat.

That's kind of the point. It's supposed to have the same kind of atmosphere as your average resident of "The City" in BLAME! would experience... if they lived next to a bar/nightclub like the one I plan on adding later.

>You should make the window in the pool area huge so I can see the cool megastructures in all directions.
Okay, I have an idea of how that can be done, though the result may not look as "clean". I also need to add structures to hide the "seams" in my build.

Especially right now there hasn't been a decent headset released in like 1-2 years (quest 3) and GPUs needed to power good PCVR have vanished from existence. The GPU situation hurts pretty bad.

Yeah the start is the weakest section. The reason I liked the DLC is because it gives you tools and movement abilities to actually make gameplay more engaging and fun later. Like a reflective thing that adds an extra element, or the grappling hook that gives you the mobility you need to make effective use of your short range weapons

I had a lot of fun collecting the rings because it was like 3d metroid and the challenge was movement + tool usage more than just shoot at thing enough until it died

The industry delivered multiple goggles, games, and ancillary equipment during and post a time when all kinds of bad things happened to Earth. Even today we are not sufficiently prepared for another worldwide coof outbreak. One hundred people enjoying Pav? When so much work must be done? You and I can hardly afford to invest in the industry. Waaay too much work to be done, and you're not satisfied with what population the industry has served you?

Those matter for multiplayer games because of operating costs and small playerbase making it hard to find anyone to play with unless you have enough friends to fill a private lobby. While the latter may be true in the context of /vrg/ it doesn't change the fact that the commercial success and well-being of a multiplayer game can be measured by how many people play it an a peak of ~100-200 is not good. The quality isn't really the factor here though it can be argued that a "good" game would have an easier time retaining players.

I think it has worse gameplay desu. The balancing between weapon ease of use and their effectiveness, unpredictable utility usage, overall bullshit balancing and netcode (trading, high ping leniance), schizo tier economy system and other bullshit make it so that there's no real incentive for you to stick with the game and get good at it. I don't even think most of it is due to slapping vr only mechanics on top of them but really bad optics from the dev that doesn't know how to make a game that people want to play for hours.

Even Co Op games like GTFO VR, using my Quest 3 Wireless I will miss shots due to the latency of the location of the enemy and when I see the enemy in the headset.

For better or worse, Counter Strike has been essentially the same game for around 25 years now. By choosing to play it, you're investing in something tried and tested that will stand the test of time and there will always be others to play against. It's pretty much the "chess" of FPS. Anonymous No.524526809 Replies: >>524528007

Most players use a headset with less than 144 FPS without motion sickness. While extremely low FPS can make the problem worse, maybe due to making the motion seem more eratic, 90 is likely above the threshold for what will make any practical difference. People get motion sick in real life where there isn't a screen involved at all because the fundamental problem is not purely visual.
Anonymous No.524527349
144hz was fine on index because of its 640x480 tier res
q3 is too high res for 120hz, even 5090 would drop frames
you need proper eye tracking if you want to go high res + high refresh rate
even 90hz is hard when you go 4k^2

also, even with eye it's hard, the foveated rendering system in vispro for example is very complicated, they are stacking and blending multiple layers just to hide the seams
nobody else comes even close, varjo tried quad rendering, but it's still lacklaster

A fundamental problem, but I enjoy VR without ill feeling except when frame rate drops. I don't feel ill while playing 72 hz, but I've been playing for months now. Would 144 hz standard help newcomers acclimate? Gonna think on this one.
