Based trackIR enthusiast I remember trying to set up a 6dof of sorts smartphone setup using trackIR early on. I've also been playing pavlov on DK2 with PS Move controllers around 2017-2018, been a massive poorfag back then. Had to tilt the hand to walk forward because it had no directional buttons, but this was also the hand that holds the rifle, so I had to keep it steady in place for aiming while rotating it in order to move.

One thing I've noticed during idol even is how many oldfags on spectator side ended up using their old avatars. Nah, everyone switched to unity kitbashing by default, it's just way too convenient even if you know your blender. Blender-oriented workflow is good if you've already settled down on your clothes/accessories combo, you're certain there's nothing more to add or remove, and then you want to take final steps.

if vrchat would enforce good rank or else you can't upload it, I wouldn't mind all that much. This is a good point, but I think it's less about organizers and more about anons. I don't want to blame anyone, or try to convince anyone to have a forced discussion, but there wasn't really much talks about idol event going on here. It didn't feel too big in thread, it didn't feel like "it's happening". If anything, posts like "we still need judges btw" on the last day made me feel like it's the opposite of happening.

But I don't care, because it happened, and once it happened, it definitely happened hard enough for my tastes. Going to agree with all of the other anons telling you to go ahead and get a headset now to try instead of waiting. Quest 3 and Pico 4 should both be fine, or just go grab something used. As much as I hate to admit it, Quest 3 would still be useful for exclusives no matter what you do long term.
Use it for a while, figure out what you'd actually want out of an expensive upgrade, and if you're still consistently using it when a new headset that does what you're actually looking for releases, then maybe consider spending a bunch on one of them.
Unless you already have something that you know you can keep coming back to and sink tons of time into, you're probably going to burn through the shorter singleplayer stuff that interests you pretty quickly.

As Vive Pro 2 owner - it's not for everyone. It suffers the same "heavy, fresnels" issues as OG Vive. If you have deep seated eyes - you're fucked, if you don't replace facial interface to a super thin one - you're fucked. if you have less than 16 gigs of VRAM you're fucked (High resolution demands a lot of VRAM espeacially with unreal engine, and HTC is running secondary compositor which steals a few more gigabites of vram)

Some more experimental VR interaction tech for children's card games. With the default pickup system in most games (including vrchat), drawing cards from a deck feels awkward compared to IRL. The card starts flat on the deck and its pose is fixed to your controller pose. So in order to rotate the card upright into view without also flashing it at an opponent, you have to rotate your controller/wrist all the way around (or "ratchet" it by dropping and reorienting your controller a few times). First part of webm related shows how that looks.

However, with real cards, you usually pinch the card between your forefinger and thumb, so when you pull the card off the top, it tilts towards you about 40deg, relative to your wrist pose. So I implemented the same tilt as you pull the card off the deck (using the distance from the original Y position of the card to lerp from flat). So that's 40deg you don't have to do with your actual wrist, which feels a lot better. I have the same tilt happen when you pick up cards off the table, so more wrist tilt you don't have to do.

Also IRL, when you're pinching the card between thumb and forefinger, you can spin the card around pretty easily to get it upright so you can read it. To emulate that, once you bring a card you're holding close enough to facing you (card normal dot view direction), it spins upright automatically (over 200ms lerp). This takes the other ~40 degrees of rotation you otherwise have to do with your wrist/controller to get the card upright. Thus, you can do the same general wrist motion as drawing cards IRL and the card gets into the same position, even without any virtual fingers to finely manipulate things.

Right now the angles and spins are just hardcoded. I think outside of vrchat, it'd be feasible to use joystick/index touchpad/trigger analog value to actually tilt/spin the card around with your fingers. Too jank to do in vrchat though.

This color shift is #2 issue in my rating of top three reasons why I cannot recommend BSB2 even though I personally enjoy it.

I'm building a VR rig but I need a temporary GPU while I wait for the 50 Super cards to come out. Whats a good temporary card for VR? Also does 3D cache that much of a difference? The answer will determine whether I use my 7800x3D for my main rig or the VR rig (The other rig will get a Ryzen 7 5800X).

Plenty of time for you to get a feeling of when you're going too fast, I assume it's a thing you're struggling with, maybe even without knowing. Once you'll learn how to recognize when you're taking risks and slow down, you're probably going to enjoy the game even more. Learning how to push when you know how to keep it safe is easier than learning how to not crash when you're constantly going full send without knowing.

It's a very specific feeling, but I absolutely loved this little moment when a certain vampire dropped his performance, then he finished, host/judges went completely silent for a long moment, and then everyone in the instance suddenly bursted into laughter. The timing of everything that happened immediately after the performance was spot on, the delivery of this joke was just flawless. I also liked how mahjong squid could barely speak after performance, this obvious consequence of pulling off a 4+ min long really intensive dance on stage kinda made it feel even more real than it already was. The ending secion of pypy boys performance was also hilarious, the little video that happened after host already took over and started moving on with the event, it was either great planning or a great coincidence that he decided to move on while ignoring the video behind him.

I like small details, though I've also obviously enjoyed everyone's full performances a lot. Missed a couple of first performances unfortunately, but absolutely lost my sides during 'god tells me to use 4chan' song, really enjoyed melodic metal bits despite not being into metal too much, got surprised with how high-effort sovl boys went, and decided to work on a plan to make U adopt me because holy shit this avatar is perfect in every way possible

overall, 10/10 event
