:: /vrg/ SCHOOL FESTIVAL | July 18 ::

What is this?
A celebration of anon’s varied groups and activities.
For one day /vrg/ turns into a full blown school festival, with rooms, booths, attractions and little corners of chaos all hosted by the different groups and friend circles around the community.

Come wander the grounds and visit what anons have cooked up.
Games, exhibits, hangouts, performances, themed rooms, comfy spots, weird ideas, good ideas, dumb ideas made real.
The whole point is to let every part of /vrg/ show its face and make something fun for everyone else to enjoy.

If you’ve ever wanted to host something, decorate a room, run a booth, make a club attraction, show off your group’s gimmick or just contribute to the general festival atmosphere, this is the event for it.
Big or tiny projects, polished or scuffed projects, they all have a place in a school festival.

This is both a social event and a showcase.
A chance to see what all the different corners of /vrg/ are up to, meet people you don’t normally bump into and enjoy an entire map full of anon-made activities all in one place.

Specially if you are currently or have hosted weekly/monthly/occasional events before and currently!
COME AND SHILL, Grow your club, Entice another anon to try what you love doing!

I will distribute 3 template types:
1) Classroom (2x1, 3x1, 2x2, 3x2, 4x2, 7x1 sizes)
2) Outside Booth (more freeform size)
3) Gymnasium (single toggle)
You'll be free to decorate within these templates:

Anonymous No.570802138 Replies: >>570802680

It's just a marketing term. It kind of loosely means that it'll be deisgned for 'XR' applications, so a lighter headset, likely compute or battery put off the headset, less FOV, less of a focus on light blocking, standalone 100%, and probably very high resolution.
The AVP, galaxy XR are existing 'XR' headsets. They're almost good as VR headsets because their technical specs are impressive.
Basically an Apple Vision Pro clone.

It's not actually, the upcoming Pico Swan is looking to actually be pretty good and a major competitor. XR isn't bad by itself, but companies copying the AVP usually also copy what made the AVP shitty for VR.

Hi, boredom tea will be at 18:15CEST (in ~2h)
> What?
An instance where people are encouraged to join for a cup of tea and eventual snacks if they fancy it. The instance will be closed after 1h
Likely in a simple room with a table and a video player
> Why?
To share relaxing time before bigger instances and after work. With a focus on things having to stay calm and simple. Making it time limited to ensure it is meant to be an in-between time rather than something big. For that reason it will be posted in the thread but as invite+

2 weeks before the frame?

It's most likely coming on 22nd or 23rd.
We know reviewers have both the machine and frame in their hands (here you have a user submitted geekbench steam machine score https://browser.geekbench.com/v6/cpu/18366182)
That means depending on when they started first receiving them we are like 1 or 2 weeks away.

Also i remember some anon asking whether the frame controllers have steaminput and yes! They do! It was just recently added to a steamvr beta branch

we already do know there is no controller specifically for eye tracking or anything like that
so that means that the only thing that the only way we wouldn't have access to the camera feed is if the drivers specifically don't output it
im very sure people would quickly just write a driver patch or a replacement that exposes it

a file can be read by many programs at the same time, it's no issue, it'd be stupid to design it in a way where read permissions are enabled exclusively for their firmware

no benefits are really lost since a little bit of latency isn't that bad for social vr that you won't be looking at yourself much anyways, you wont be using the same data for anything else
i dabbled with diy ft before and beaming a camera feed on a local network from the frame really would be very simple

/dev/video0 is not a png or jpeg. Its an file like interface for v4l api. Which might be used for steam frame cameras, but also might have too long latency for amount of tracking cameras frame needs.
Most likely, if its not a coprocessor, its gonna have some application which does direct DMA memory access to cameras, or some MIPI hardware level API for extremely fast access.

It's a pretty terrible product stock if you're used to the Index but the value of the BSB2 goes up every day that the Frame is delayed or every day inflation goes up and the BSB2 stays the same price, and it's comfortable enough modded. I used to tell everyone to hard avoid the BSB2 but it went from absolute dogass to one of the only real choices left these days so when that's all we have we need to look at every option available.

XR2 SUCCESSOR????????

>Compared to Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2, this new platform offers up to 60% higher Adreno GPU performance, a 30% increase for the Kryo CPU (4 + 2 performance cores), and 160% higher Hexagon NPU performance at 48 TOPS. This can be used for photorealistic avatars with Gaussian Splatting and LLM-based agents, or 3D content creation with large vision models directly on the device. XR experiences can better respond to real-time conditions with greater contextual awareness.

Adreno 840/850 as the gpu.
Not really sure about cpu, but frequency is upor to 2.9ghz from 2.0/2.4ghz from xr2+g2.
Tweaked, but largely unchanged fast connect 7800 for the wireless, now supports bt 6.0.
12 cameras total, enough for proper face+eye, up from 10 from xr2+g2.
2x usb 3.1, up from 1x on xr2+g2.

That's pretty much it. XR2+gen2 tier headsets (q3, old pico, frame) finally can be considered outdated.
And a proper name too, very happy with this news.

Otherwise, the software isn't great but at least is at a usable state and VD works just fine to get you into PCVR land where the only real big issue is that how it handles tracking universes is weird or something so even with constant calibration, you're sliding around a bit within your acceptable jitter settings.

More cameras is cool but better specs for standalone is unexciting by itself until I see breakthroughs in computer vision that let us do optical body tracking. Meta had machiavellian resources to figure that problem out and they never did and the result was torso cuck avatars. Oh yes we can have extremely high resolution displays but you can't drive modern good looking games at those resolutions and video file sizes would be insane, so its a magic multi monitor setup and not much else. People can read in these headsets pretty good above 3000px yet they keep chasing the PPD meme instead of making the panels bigger and giving us back the FOV. At least they have show and tell for HDR microdisplays but it will be years before it's a product.

Yes, vrchat accepts arbitrary OSC input. Mostly for instruments, but people use it for heartrate trackers and dildos I'm sure you could do that too if you were willing to write a python app to handle the OSC and feed it to vrchat.

5080 is not good enough for the higher resolution headsets, ofc depends on game but still.
Anyways here are your options for wireless OLED headsets (nowadays every wireless headset has foveated streaming if they have eye tracking)
Galaxy XR
Play for Dream
(Pico Swan, upcoming later this year)
I have been thinking of a plan B if I don't get the Frame aswell and these are it.
I would personally wait for the Pico Swan.

Jets are a great counter to helicopters, yes. Though in the case of Forefront I think their best bet is to add stationary infantry weapons to points of the map, similar to how Battlefield 2 did it. A stationary stinger would let anyone regardless of class help lock down an area of the map from helicopters, and stationary guns for slowly whittling down vehicle health or possibly even sniping the pilot out.

Turning it into an unity side avatar optimization tool that works in one click even if you don't understand it would improve vrchat massively. I love it and I'd use it in any form, but in particular, it'd be amazing if every single person would use this as a default.

The fact that VRC hasn't taken d4rk's and similar tools, paid the devs for their time and to keep working on it further, and forced them into the VCC package really shows how much they actually care about optimization.

I'm a complete new fag
Give me a quick rundown of what you guys are doing, the vrchatters

so like, you find a base model, and then what, do you guys go hunt for clothes, and hair styles, do you just drag and drop into unity and use actual 3D modeling knowledge to make the clothes fit?
What about poses, is it also done in unity?

what's the process of "putting together a model" I mean

there are a lot of ways. combining pre-fit assets in Unity is the easiest, but blender is a lot more flexible and if you aren't using a common base there won't be a lot of clothing options that fit. A lot of poses and controls come "out of the box" or with very minimal setup in unity.
Anonymous No.570874082

The most basic take that majority of people do is buying outfits and parts that fit a certain booth base.
https://boothplorer.com/avatars
Go here, find some character you like, underneath there's a list of compatible modules. Those work with drag and drop, you throw it into character on unity scene, most of the time automated scripts take care of everything related to merging it into one avatar. You can go deeper, fit clothes and accessories from various other sources yourself in blender, whatnot, but the way it usually goes is just that. People who put moderate amounts of effort tend to work on making sure that materials and textures fit each other, and do other various little touchups.

>What about poses, is it also done in unity?
we, uh, use avatar in game sometimes when not playing blender/unity, and then we pose as we please with our own bodies

New poker version: https://files.catbox.moe/k1p6lr.unitypackage
Depends on:
- UdonChips 2.11 (https://booth.pm/ja/items/3060394)
- SmartObjectSync (https://github.com/MMMaellon/SmartObjectSync)
Changes:
- All prefabs are now under VrchatHoldem/Prefabs
- Drastically improved performance
- Added more stats
- Now integrates with UdonChips
- 8 player table variant added

Usage:
Add the following prefabs to your scene:
- UdonChips: I recommend an initial amount of 1500, and Save mode of Auto
- HoldemGame (suggested scale of 0.8): Add as many tables as you want. I recommend a winner timeout value of 10s, and an action timeout value of 15-20s. In the editor, reference UdonChips.
- VRChatHoldemPlayerObject: Add a single object per world. I recommend keeping the default values. In the editor, reference UdonChips.

Optional
- UncModeButton: Add one per HoldemGame prefab. "High visibility mode". Select holdemgame reference for it to work.
- WelfarePrefab: Button for getting welfare money. I recommend putting 750 in cash granted, with a cooldown of 10 mins, and a max balance threshold of 3k
- InfoPanel: Balance and stats panel
- DunceCapPool: Add one to the scene if you intend to have a dunce cap.
- DunceCapGive: Grabbable Duncecap you use to give to others players, I suggest 5k to give, 5k to take off and radius of 0.4
- CharityCardPrefab: Donation card. I suggest transfer of 1k, minimum of 1k and radius of 0.4

Frame controllers need to be open like a normal PC controller. It's really bad for VR when controllers are locked to a particular headset and PC and consoles have all this choice. Also too many times you want to buy a headset and the controllers of all things are a consideration. A VR headset has to nail good controllers instead of just being a headset.

They often are too, hence the cliques. Like I said it's just meme word for what shy people do. I kind of recommend just sorting the introductions out with alcohol so you can get familiar enough for sober interactions.
Another thing that helps is the mirror. No joke if you see yourself as the cute anime girl it helps with confidence.

You don't have to also become a cliquefag. The whole purpose of exploration is to explore so go and do that and when you don't want to explore any more go do something else.

So far the beta is looking really promising with ~100ms ping and more than 2 players. Couple of glitches that are more apparent with higher ping but none of us have space age computers or are in the same country. Soon (TM) we will be trying with 4 players at once but 3 works pretty well.

That's a silly perspective. You have to make an effort if you want to intergrate and familiarize yourself with people. Eventually you too will become one of the "friends who hang out".
Acting all withdrawn and wallflower-y like an abused six-year-old kid becomes less appealing as both you and your contemporaries grow older.
The exception being if your contemporaries are psuedo-pedophilic (or genuinely pedophilic) groomers who fawn over you because they project an image of a vulnerable minor onto your shy adult-child ass.

There's more to it than that, since I used to be in that group. For me it was kind of an extreme emotion to be exposed to lewdness since it was very disruptive. I was at least self aware so I just became avoidant since I couldn't handle it, but I can completely see someone redirecting that uncomfortable distasteful feeling into anger directed at those that made them uncomfortable. This could fester until it becomes entirely the fault of the lewd that they feel that way, and it becomes an easily triggered source of anger.
I think this is ultimately not very healthy.

I really miss rings on VR controllers, and fear the worst for steam frame VR games. Tracking from Quest 2 to Quest 3 takes a notable dip on the off hand when you're trying to aim something like a rifle in VR without a virtual stock if the controllers are flat and in line with each other. This is obviously mitigated if you hold your off-hand like you have a vertical grip but some positions of grips in games are a little more orthodox and freak out if you twist the off hand.

My BSB2 is already good enough to replace it for most use cases in 2.5k mode, resolution is more or less good enough and optical sharpness is definitely within parameters. But keeping headset on head will never be as comfortable as having a display in front of you, so I only use it for small touchups. Played a flat game with friends while in headset once, it was fine even during multihour session with small UI elements.

But yeah this thing was legitimately announced a year and a half ago and they still have not sent out any orders to anyone, and in some newsletters and dev blogs they imply that it's already been released (it hasn't, it's just a marketing ploy towards people who havent bought yet who dont know they're being lied to).
