I get that they don't want to make another Half Life but not even getting some random dev to put their game out around this time?

Because this was a headset they designed in 2021 and intended to release in 2023 to compete with the Quest 3 back when Meta was infusing billions into the market and it was possible it was the next big thing. Then VR died and now this is only releasing because it's a finished product to compliment the Steam Machine and Steam Controller. They gave up on VR somewhere between 2021 and 2023 like everyone else and never bothered to develop a game.

The Fashion Club is a newly started (hopefully recurring) meet focused on making outfits that aren't the standard casual, sexy, tactical, etc. The goal is to build a wardrobe full of great outfits that are not skimpy(without good reason), follow a theme, and that you'd want to wear anytime and anywhere, including public instances. The given themes will be very vague or broad, allowing club members to freely interpret their design based on a loose idea to prevent uniformity(like bunny suits or tactical gear). Meets are planned for possibly once a month, once every two months, or once a quarter.

The theme for this first meet is Adventurer, typically the medieval fantasy type but any interpretation is allowed as long as the first thought by anyone on seeing this outfit is without a doubt "that's an adventurer". Don't forget your weapons, your trinkets, anything you might need on a quest. Bonus points for interactive weapon gimmicks. It does not matter how you made the outfit, if you got an outfit on booth, kitbashed, the final result matters.

There is no contest(unless the people want one). Show up, show off, see what others have made, take pictures. This is intended to essentially be a hangout+ with a focus on fashion and outfits.

Anyone is free to join to show off or spectate, but there is one restriction on the final design:
- You must be mostly dressed and show no skimpy features(that means no chainmail bikinis).

It seems like most of the frame issues are software. Sure the lenses aren't peak q3 quality (because meta bought the company valve was working with); and there might be some aggressive mic-noise compensation because of the fan (software tuning could help this), and the controllers might be too clicky, and that power delivery issue with the headset modules not seating properly together, and the brightness is a little lower... but the only thing that would be a dealbreaker is if pcvr didn't work

Just learned the Goymax SE can run at 90hz but it cuts the resolution in half. Does the Frame do the same shit? Maybe it lowers the bitrate?

The frame does not cut the resolution. It does do foveated encoding but the exact parameters of how it performs has not been tested much yet at all so I honestly can't tell you.

The combat is just bad. The highest rank for a lot of levels wants you to clear in like 30 seconds so you barely have time to even do anything before it's over and you're back to the loading screen or lobby. I saw some potential for grinding out a build in the random stats and skills that weapons have but if the scenarios you use them in aren't fun then it's all for naught.

It's just too janky. It feels the same as Ruins Magus but instead of dungeon crawl you get small arena with bunch of mobs that you can clear in no time. Story is horribly bad, there's barely any VR interactions and all in all it just feels like cheap knockoff of PSO. We played like twice, the most "fun" was fighting the first bost on hard difficulty. It wasn't hard but there's timer and depending on time you get stars and depending on stars you get RNG loot and first clear reward. It was the only time combat had any mechanics outside of "waggle" or "click fast". It's free, feel free to put a lobby up but even for free it just feels underwhelming.

One of the first detailed reviews saying the streaming quality was terrible came back a day later and said he tried using the front USB port and his dongle works much better. I'll take norm and linus shilling any day because they know how to not block an access point. Then he types this long subjective rant about individual games that make no sense. They keep talking about "the colors". I have no idea if they are comparing expectations to a saturation or contrast filter they had on in virtual desktop or something. They are incapable of things like loading a color swatch as a overlay in local and streaming that same color swatch over a PC to see if the image is "washed out" or they are just being a dumb nigger. Also saying they use 500mbs+ in virtual desktop on quest because they don't know what latency is. I think the same user said the quest 3 was brighter despite frame being overdriven 120%, but he didn't take a picture to prove it. I think norm did a through the lens comparison of the passthrough in his review and they looked the same. How would he not notice this?

Still foveated streaming is supposed to be near an order of magnitude improvement over full frame in terms of overhead, if valve gets mogged by guy godin streaming almost 10% of the pixels I'll eat crow. I know VD has historically been better but not that much better.

PC gaming has been a thing for 40 fucking years and devs STILL haven't figured that the obvious solution to performance problem is to auto-adjust detail level and rendering options based on framerate.

FPS dips below threshold when lots of particles are on screen? Reduce particle detail until they're gone.
Or reduce anti-aliasing.
Or reflection resolution if there's lots of reflections on screen.
There's so many things devs could toggle and tune automatically to keep frame rates stable.

Dynamic resolution exists. I think many of those specific settings can't be adjusted without causing stuttering. Like, even when you adjust them in a menu, you get a noticeable pause while they apply. Some can't even be changed without restarting the game.

I stopped using AV1 on my Q3 because it caused massive latency spikes whenever I looked down in Walkabout Minigolf, which makes sense the putting greens are essentially a giant mess of static with how they're textured and the slight movement of my head meaning they're shifting constantly.
