Anons, never used VR in my life. I can get a used Quest 2 very cheap (70€). But I'm not interested in VR gaming like at all. I only play JRPGs and VNs, so those little VR games on the device don't interest me at all. Is it still worth the money? I would spend a little more and get a reverb G2 or PSVR2. Reverb G2 will be very easy to use as its a steamVR headset and doesn't require community support like PSVR2, but PSVR2 has better contrast. These are good headsets if your case is sitting down wired.

Reason is the cable situation on a quest 2 is pretty shitty, you'll be plugged in with usb instead of display port on the side temple and the video will always be compressed. You can go wireless but you need to buy a router and sorta know what you're doing. You will also probably be spending money to improve the headstrap. So in reality the quest 2 is not 70.

Look for VR conversions of JRPGs I guess, if you can't find the games you want to play just hold off:

I love my chest tracker and I think it adds a lot to the overall feel, it's also comfortable to wear with gopro mount on chest. Sure, the thing is large, but once you put it on, you forget it exists, this one I can recommend with no asterisks. Shoulders are nice because you can shrug, but they're annoying to wear, so ended up not using those.

Also, tundras are a bit worse at catching lighthouse lazer than normal pucks. Something to keep in mind, I wear mine on feet for that reason.

For clarity, video is about shoulder trackers, chest alone will only give you the ability to rotate chest separately instead of rotating it based on head and hip position. But that's great in its own way, for example you can peek at camera behind you while hiding face behind shoulder rather than having chest auto-rotate sideways because head was moved to the side. Chest tracker just makes motion feel a bit more natural.

Not really. You can pick up a chest tracker which isadmittedly very nice but even that is kind of whatever for most things. The leap from 3 point to 6 (7) point is astronomical but going beyond that is incredibly hyper specific and not really worth it. Anybody else playing Asgards Wrath 2? I just got a Quest 3s so I've been playing it a bit, so far I'd say it's a 7/10 game, feels like ps2 era god of war a bit, it crashes now and then which sucks.
Also I always like going out of my way to collect everything but it's almost never worth it in this game, you open a chest and you get a leather scrap and you smash every container on the map for 2 pocket lint that sucks.
The combat itself is a annoying too, the weapons only detecting damage if you swing with force especially, makes stabbing really hard and I should be able to stop enemies from rushing into me by sticking out my swords pointy end that just makes sense to me.
Dealing with a lot of enemies circling you also sucks and it happens a lot, you end up having to cheese the dash, I also don't like how you have to hit into their weapons to parry and if you just do a regular block on blues it can knock your weapon out of your hand, plus me hitting their weapon when its blue seems to be pretty 50/50 whetever the game will even register it.

One could argue that with those levels of performance you may prefer an used index with direct GPU connection to avoid extra load from software and encoding, but I've no idea how much exactly would that add to the pile of computing thrown on your poor overworked computing unit. It's just an idea on what you may want to google through, if you can find any opinions along the lines of "i switched from quest to index and noticed massive performance gain on my pentium mmx", it would be something to consider. Used Index can be found really cheap nowadays if you're lucky.

This thought was brought to you mostly by my 2019 memories of switching to Index from CV1 and noticing a performance gain because my old computer no longer had to compute image data from four CV1 cameras and then some extra cameras because my setup was weird back then.
