Another possibly nonobvious blender tip, at least when working with MMD models, is that if you first run "tris to quads" on your mesh in edit mode (Alt J, or hit Space -> type "tris to quads"), then the Un-Subdivide mode of the decimation modifier usually works far better than collapse or planar decimation without destroying the outlines of the original model. I got my "hair 1" down to 14284 quads (28k tris), which is still a lot, but better, and it still deforms nicely with the bones.

Well, for me the problem of ripping an avatar from someone else is generally because there's the assumption that the person with the original one put effort and time into setting it up, (hopefully) optimizing it, and then customizing it to their liking. And that's not even considering the model being hand crafted.
Since a large part of VRChat is that content creation, being ok with someone just walking by and pushing a button to copy it feels very wrong to me.
Now, if we're talking about a pedestal avatar or just a straight MMD rip with no touch ups, that's an entirely different scenario as well as dealing with a situation when the person comes up and asks if they can copy it. If the person says yes, then it's all good in my book.

Also, if the person copying the avatar simply wants to use it as a base to make their own that would be just fine too since that's what we do with the MMD models. It's primarily the "Steal to use" part I dislike.

The biggest problem with avatar stealing is avatars are identities. Especially when nametags are off or hidden with shaders. The association is so strong it's common to see retards getting confused and upset when someone else imports the same MMD a "celebrity" faggot is known for.

Now I don't hang around the vrg community all that often, but outside of the meetups it's gotten pretty bad with avatar stealing. I usually hang out with people who make a lot of fun and creative avatars, and all of them (me included) have gotten their shit stolen. And this isn't just your everyday "model"-borrowing deal, these people straight up download your model and slap their own name all over it. It's not really the whole "the maker put time and effort" into the avatar that bothers me, the avatar-making itself is fun and I never felt like I've wasted my time on it. My concern with avatar stealing is that the avatar is personal to most people. Everyone has their own way of making avatars, with shaders and particle effects that starts to define their style. The avatar that I lost had inside jokes only my group understands, so it feels really shitty for someone else to be using it. It feels like identity theft when someone just takes your avatar and pretends that its their own creation.

Is it possible to:
1. Setup IK solvers for things like spider legs, so crouching in vr makes them bend right?
2. Animate the IK targets instead of animator values?

Told someone I'd share my edits of NoeNoe's shader with back culling disabled on the versions with alpha transparency. Redid the same edit on all four transparent shaders on latest version just now, and here it is. Haven't tested this new one in game, but in the old version I used to use there were issues that you'll come across every once in a while, if you want to atlas to one material with it. But it works.

I wouldn't take mmd models that weren't publicly available, and I actually respect it if they request to not use the model for vrchat.

And it's not like I just take an mmd model, slap my name on it and that's it. On the model itself I usually add personalized textures, change clothes, maybe even replace the head of one mmd model to another. If we were to compare it to any other form of art and production it would be like a remix, like making your own way on an already established song or photoshopping a picture to turn it into something completely different. This is not considering all the stuff I actually made from the ground up, such as the particle effects and animations.

Either way, the argument is especially bullshit when I know people who are using standard vrchat models, and are making shaders, textures and particle effects that they themselves designed. I even know some who have made their own models from the ground up in blender, and it would be such a shame for those models to ever get stolen.

Currently I use fist on the left hand for 5 different props that only come out on the correct two handed position, and rocknroll(ok) on the right hand for three two handed only facial expressions. The rest of my overrides are one handed and minor things that I don't mind activating by mistake, and all of them are cancelled in two handed expressions aside from 'smug' which uses a component from ahegao anyway on the same gesture. I plan to fill out the rest of my props and faces lines so they have seven each, and maybe add another line of two handed overrides, but I think any more than that is going to be too difficult to keep track off. 50 is probably impractical if you want it to remain controllable.
