I think the appeal is fundamentally user content and some factor also makes first gen VR adopters happen to be disproportionately weebs. It's probably somewhat over-represented by the majority of non-meme pedestal avatars being anime, due to the availability of models and the nature of people willing to convert it, and in meet ups, some have stated being an anime girl isn't actually their first preference, it's just easiest or they want to fit in.

I would buy that a majority of the sells in trackers have been for VRchat.

I thought they'd be neat to experiment with as well but I don't think Valve ever got around to releasing the API on it. The coolest thing I think to do with them would be to attach a tracker to a drone for relatively cheap positional tracking to throw into the control loop. There are some neat videos out there of people who did this with the simpler tracking methods but have yet to see anyone replicate it with the vive pucks.

I originally made that image and later found out that method has major problems and I'd been completely scuffed for weeks without knowing. I think it's just a byproduct of full body tracking locking one of my gestures on, but I need to test it. To some extent it's not very useful for anything other than making shapekey props two handed, because facial gestures get too difficult to remember when you have too many.

I don't currently use it, but here's a simple method of getting ten to twelve overrides, though, half of them are just modified forms rather than distinct overrides. I use victory to partially cancel components of over shape keys when it is on the right hand to create a modified form. It also solves the problem of movement activating the victory facial expression constantly, because the override does nothing by itself now, due to being enforced off states only. I'm only using ten because FBT locks rock and roll on for me all the time, so I've made it a gesture that cancels everything else, and it also allows me to any hand position on the left hand with a neutral face. If you're not using FBT you can make rock and roll another facial expression. The expression that gets stuck isn't the same for everyone. I think it's always grip button for vive users, but I've seen rift users with fist stuck on.

just to let everyone know my runemage avatar is now on a public pedestal in my avatar world. You need to figure out the secret code to get into the secret room though. Most people here seem to already know it though.

I have this idea to make a HUD for different facial expressions. If you attach a plane to your head bone as a separate game object, using a rigid body/fixed joint pair, then vrchat won't scale it to zero along with the rest of your geometry weighted to your head bone. That way you can have a head-attached object you can toggle along with your expression override in the animation, appearing in your view as an icon.

I haven't thought of the best way to make your custom HUD only visible to yourself though. I think like a sphere around your head with inward-facing normals setting the stencil to something specific, then having your HUD icons do a stencil test would work, but haven't tried yet. Maybe there's some other screen-space shader hack that'd be better.

I have no idea how long this has been out, but SteamVR lets you change controller bindings per-game now. I don't think you can make it do key presses, but at the very least oculus users can choose to not kill their thumbsticks to jump in vrchat. I set both the X and the A button to be Right Thumbstick Press to use them for jumping.

Vive and rift are both top of the line 1st gen VR headsets that play all the real VR games just fine, with similar tracking, experience. WMR is the uncomfortable middle ground, between poorfag google cardboard-type """VR""" shit and actual VR. It'll work, but you'll wish you had a Rift/Vive.

That might be why it doesn't work then. I had the shape keys used in the animation on other overrides too. I know that is the case for visemes; if you use them in an override, they won't work when talking even if the override isn't active.

There's an inventory slot each of your shoulders that can carry even the two handed melee weapons that don't fit in anything else. If you look to the side and put an object near your head, you can see the edge of the slot light up.

Click on your animation.anim, go up into the top right corner of unity to the little downarrow and three bars icon above the gear and next to the lock, click on debug mode, and set the animation to 'Legacy'. Then just go back to normal mode and add an Animation component like usual and it'll work.

I don't get how I'm supposed to know how much I'm compressing a part of the avatar compared to the original fullsize material. Every time I do it either automatic or manual it leaves much to desire in terms of the original quality. Pre-bakes take awhile and I can't really tell till I get in game or unity and see that eyes look compressed as fuck.
