I'm surprised nobody has had the autism to make a multicrew tank game in vrchat yet. obviously the mechanics wouldn't be great, and some stuff like radio wouldn't even be possible, but you could still do a big vehicle with a separately turnable turret and some animation state machine loading mechanic.

The problem that you can't even stand up straight in many tanks. You can prevent players moving sideways by using the IK to force them away from the wall, but you can't push someone into the ground.

Hmm, that problem doesn't seem too hard. You can't prevent the player from standing up IRL of course, but if your head clips into the geometry otherwise, you're going to have to sit down (or squat if you're not a fbtchad) to see anything. If the top armor isn't thick enough to prevent players from just clipping their heads out to look, you could activate some sort of backout mesh when they sit in the seat.

One thing that rec room does over vrchat is if you try to press your head into a wall to look through it, the game translates the world backwards (keeping your head in the same place in world-space, i.e. not in the wall). A clever way to prevent clipping without inducing too much motion sickness.

I think that's actually the IK moving you backwards at the same rate as you move your head forwards so you just push yourself away from the wall. A few games do it. Pavlov has an inferior solution of teleporting you if you touch a bounding box with your head that doesn't work very well and prevents you accessing areas that shouldn't be collisions. You can't do it on the vertical axis at any rate.

I've noticed most of the new worlds as way bigger than half and more year ago. Some have completely ridiculous sizes for what's in them. I saw a public world that is exact generic simple house from deviantart that I published a while ago... 101MB while mine is 5MB... I don't even understand how that is possible. Different guy, as my first actual game project I'll probably make a tank crew game. Geometry modelling should be easy for stuff like a tank and could be updated to be closer to a replica of real tanks after release so I can focus on core mechanics for most of development. I would probably have to make the game actually similar to RO for combat to be fun and to allow for a mixup instead of having players stare at metal all day, but being a lone guy making a decent 1st time game of that scale would be difficult, so I will probably create the tank thing as a basic cheap af singleplayer/coop experience, and hire an extra dev and modeller for a proper game later on if stuff looks profitable enough for me to not lose all my money.

Theres a difference between vehicles and ships. I'm trying to think of a tank that could scale to match the players play spaces and coming up blank. That'd be a ten foot wide turret ring. Here's what you do. Make a rough prototype of each station with cylinders and boxes. Get those interactions working. After that, move them into a box with a smaller box on top that spins. Once you have that working you can swap for an asset store pack of models and try to get it adjusted right. For the crew compartment, I wouldn't have it actually move. Move the world around the tank like old X-Wing.

you scale the player up if their playspace is large, or scale the player down if their playspace is small. and use real world sizes and fit it inside the playspace with teleport or slide locomotion.
With vr anything is possible.
For inspiration, watch the trailer for fisherman's tale, or look and see how "unseen diplomacy" works, it's free on steam.
you can even lock stations to avalible playspace, making it so that standing only players have to assume a seated position and room scale users have the option to load cannon. (but that's in unity itself.)
In vrchat you have no such exclusions, but you could put teleport "onenter" setups.

it has to do with the tick and update rate of the networking that vrchat does, and your latency to that user.
That's why fbt recordings can be fairly fast sometimes and crappy other times.
I really wish vrchat would implement slightly more buffered physical smoothing.
If you're RECORDING however, using LIV's smoothed vr reprojection window can make recordings look really clean without the "shake" that you get from vr's precision tracking.

I made a proof of concept tank drive, webm related. prefab: https://my.mixtape.moe/ezatbq.prefab

Works pretty well in single-player with the seat, smooth motion. Will likely break with multiple stations in it, but maybe not, since it's a map station, not an avatar station.

Also obviously the canvas-based controls aren't ideal, but you need the button OnClick events to affect wheel collider torque (or actual scripting), which is the driving force here, can't do it with triggers directly. Could probably do something with trigger colliders and some hinge-jointed throttles for a more realistic UI, but it'd still have to be quantized i think.

Will try a turret next. I think a configurable joint like jetpack prefab would work, though direct drive torques could work too.

It's just two vrc_pickups that you can push into a set of trigger colliders that activate the corresponding button. However, it's surprisingly satisfying compared to lasering the canvas buttons, since you can actually push forward and back like two throttles. It's straightforward (though annoying with layers of triggers and animators) to add multiple speeds to each throttle, or some sort of gearing system. You could even make a physical throttle that's in a hinge joint and follows the collider ball for more realism. Staring at the configurable joint settings makes my head hurt though, haven't figured that out yet.

Brake is a bit janky. I made it so you can just yank your hand into the middle to toggle brake on and off. I think there's a way to attach gameobjects to parts of your armature with a trigger, so could let FBT users have actual foot pedals.

Also, you'll notice the two collider balls on the hands start jumping around once you go fast. I had to add an "ondrop" trigger to teleport them back to the default position, otherwise the colliders just fuck off somewhere and I couldn't find them. I imagine other vrc_stations will do the same thing, hopefully it doesn't break too badly in multiplayer.

That isn't how the scoring system works. Raw PP isn't added to get rank. Going in order from your highest PP score the ranking score is weighted to be less than the previous based of a multipler of .95^(song position - 1). If you average 30 PP per map than the first will get you 30 PP next will be 28.5 etc. Grinding a lot of songs at the same skill level will help your score up to a certain point after which you'll get diminishing returns.
People always say these systems can be "gamed" but generally that always mean improving at the game more so than finding a cheat. I think PP type systems work well and if you have two people compete based on their rank than generally the higher rank will come out on top as should be the case.

So the PSVR's Aim controller is super cool. As much as I love my Vive Pro, those wands can't replicate the feeling of having two hands on a gun. vivespray 2 has slightly more realistic can physics now but the creator is greedy and charged for the upgraded version of the game only 6 months after releasing the first one.
there's actually a pretty active community in both games with community walls, I was a part of a real art/graf scene as a teenager, and every pro artist I've had mess around in there says it feels like the real thing to the point that it's quite a bit scary - kingspray is one of those games that can make you believe vr is the final, ultimate form of media creation and consumption, and that it will replace reality for most people, sooner than you think all but for the most basic human needs.

making full on vr games in unity that are actually fun, and multiplayer, using PUN and other things can be done in a literal afternoon with a decent asset pack and terrain generator, yes.
Unity now has a free FPS sample engine showcase project that does literally all the work for you when it comes to gun physics, and the "Adam" assets and photogrammetry pack can make it look incredible.
you can also backport the assets from Unreal's free packs into unity too.
Unreal itself is just as easy, with visual event scripting, and they also have modern vr support out of the box. fucking TONS of actually remarkably decent games have been made without touching nearly ANY c# and c++ code in both engines.
