VRC is very social and is a good way to meet people who also play vr games. If you're a fat, retarded, asocial neckbeard with an insufferable personality and no cardiovascular endurance (eg: your pic related) then you're going to have a hard time with VRC. I'm not a fan of Facebook at all, but I'd tone the Oculus rant down to a reasonable level and add the Quest 2 in with a disclaimer. It's going to make sense for some people, and we're going to get questions either way.
That bit about WMR needs to change too. There are no current WMR headsets, and when the Reverb G2 releases, it'll be the only current option. Everything else has been discontinued. G2 is also twice the price of a Quest 2. Even before the Quest 2 got announced, I wouldn't have called it a cheaper alternative.
Really wish you hadn't changed anything without running it by the thread first. There's some other minor stuff I think should probably be changed back or tweaked a bit too, but I don't even have a copy of the old version for comparison.

Of course, they have plenty of other ways to screw you outside of venues. They can even ban your headset and take away Oculus store games for terms of service violations on their regular social media website such as "speech relating to what Facebook deems objectionable content":

I know Facebook login sucks, but I don't see how you can ignore the reality of a $300 device with comparable specs to the Reverb/Index. 2k res per eye + 90mhz is worth the 300 dollars alone. Even if FB Horizons, Venues, and the Oculus home suck, it doesn't change the actual VR experience when you're on SteamVR or any of the Oculus store games. There's literally no reason to not get it if you don't have an Index or Reverb already. And even if you do, wireless VR feels pretty fucking good and it's worth having around for bullshit like Beat Saber or whatever shitty Oculus game you wanna play at the moment.

And just because you might not care about the difference using Link doesn't mean it isn't there, simple technological fact means video will reach your eyes quicker and more clearly on actual PC VR, and we already know that latency is critical to a good VR experience.

You pay $300 and get a "just good enough" experience, doesn't mean it's not worth paying more to get an objectively better one. Oculus put out this version of the Quest purely to get people locked into facebook, plain and simple. They cut a lot of corners in build quality to push the XR2 SoC and convince people to upgrade. If you don't care, that's fine, spend your $300, but don't pretend like any other headset is over and finished. I'd take my Index over that pile of shit any day.

Reverb G2 has no capacitive buttons so gesturing in VRChat is totally fucked unless you can rebind stuff. They also lack the touchpads from the old WMR controllers so they're a unique, gimped controller to VRChat. I'm going to wait and see what ends up happening with them. to be fair, most easily available ones are not gonna be magic. industrial shit is industrial for a reason.

for most easily accessible voice changers, unless you get lucky and your default voice lends itself well to genderbending with minor tweaks, you will have to pitch your voice a bit. microphone quality, distance, etc etc also matter It's why despite finding them kind of amusing to mess with initially, I personally never bothered with them outside of meme voices, (sounding robotic etc)

I've been doing VR for about a month now after being given a HP Windows MR for free and have been fun with it. It's a mixed bag, but my favorite games have been ones that aren't exclusively VR titles. So far I've tried:

Karnage Chronicles. I picked it up because of presentation and the positive reviews. While it's not bad bad, it feels like an aggressively mediocre RPG with bad melee even with the advertised velocity based strikes. The dungeons themselves are completely linear, the AI is uninteresting and just stands in one place until you finally show up, and the RPG mechanics are as simple as switching from a leather helmet to an improved leather helmet (No visual difference). The WoW esque art isn't actually bad though. It looks better than your average unity asset flip.

Hellsplit Arena is one I gave a shot. While the graphics in this one are again pretty good, it's honestly pretty lame. As the name implies it's just small arenas with some sometimes convenient spikes you can kick dudes into. But the AI is dumb and it throws the same uninteresting zombies at you over and over again. I really fucking wish that Dark Messiah would get a VR port instead. The combat is cool though and is somewhat similar to Blade & Sorcery with its physics based gameplay. The goofy announcer is one of the worst parts of the game for me. It's like the dev recorded himself with his webcam and tried to be the Quake 3 announcer very hard.

Speaking of which, Blade & Sorcery is pretty good. It is rather unfinished and there are no RPG mechanics with the only game mode being a so-so wave survival. But the amount of options+mods really makes this one for me. The only thing holding me back is me getting gud and learning to use the slow-mo button at the right times to make good plays. It really helps make anything that isn't mindless hacking and slashing viable, not to say that using a zweihander isn't fun. cont...

When the dungeon update with patrolling AI comes out I'm going to try living out my fantasies of being a dagger shank rogue as there will finally be unaware enemies to sneak up on. Though this is another case where I feel like I may have made the right choice in pirating the game.

Boneworks is legitimately fascinating as a game, and I like it quite a bit. I wish that all VR games had that level of interactivity. I don't have much else to say on that front other than I got filtered at the area with falling crates and haven't tried the game since. Supposedly a patch changes climbing so your legs will actually pull up when you try to pull up with your arms, which might mean that I should actually buy this one.

Doom VFR is fairly enjoyable. It's a little easy as I think that it was made for people who would only teleport rather than using full locomotion. I love how they implemented telefragging from the original Doom games in as a way to glory kill demons on teleport. I hope that more games using teleport in creative ways rather than just an option for casuals to do movement.

Beat Saber is good, especially with mods. I am just bad at the game, especially as my headset can't track most movements outside of my field of vision.

As far as not-exclusively VR games go I've tried:

Quakespasm VR. I actually prefer this over playing Quake normally due to the immersion and being able to aim easily with the lasers. Playing through Arcane Dimensions is a blast. I didn't have as good of an experience with the newer shinier QuakeVR port, as it's not compatible with most mods and requires that the grip be constantly held or else you drop your weapon. Similarly I couldn't get GZDoomVR to work at all. The controllers just aren't detected. It's a shame as someone working on a Doom mod I would have loved to try it in VR.

VRChat, duh. Joining the meetups has been fun so far. It's been a good excuse to make characters in Koikatsu and port them over. cont.

I'm actually surprised at how drama-free the meetups themselves are considering how dire the threads can be. I've had legitimately good conversations on it.

The Midnight Sanctuary is a nifty VN, though it's short. I personally loved how goofy the portrayal of Christianity is in it, and it wasn't as cliche as I had thought it would be. I'll have to try other VR VNs like Tokyo Chronos later.

Koikatsu is neat, but only really for viewing scenes. The actual gameplay is uninteresting in desktop and otherwise.

Serious Sam is tons of fun. The run and gun laser pointer gameplay is exactly what I want out of VR FPSs. I haven't played the original versions so I can't opine on how the VR versions stack up. While the notorious frog room wasn't bad thanks to duel wielding and always holding a chainsaw in front of my face, I got filtered by this part earlier today.

Gal Gun isn't anything special.

Overall fairly happy with VR. I hope to get into modding Minecraft and Skyrim to see how much I like those games in that state. VRChat is still my biggest timesink in VR though. As someone who likes games where you can make your own content and cosmetics rather than putting up with mtx and DLC it's very much a dream come true. On the horizon nothing interests me massively beyond the VR ports of OpenMorrowind and The Dark Mod. I honestly don't care about triple A VR games considering that triple A games in general are trash these days.

1) Is there detailed description on the map from the author?
- if yes, that means the map maker is proud enough and happy enough with his work to take the time to fill this detail in
2) Is the thumbnail good?
3) Are there other people playing it right now? (Use this heuristic last as it does not really give you the ability to find hidden gems)
4) Go fast and explore fast.
- 5 mins for a shit map
- 10 mins for an ok map
- 30 mins for a good map
- 2 hrs + if you hit gold
Having friends a long the way makes everything much more pleasurable experience.

It really depends on what you wanna play. I have been using a mix of Virtual Desktop vs Oculus Link for the past few months. I have noticed the Link looks noticeably brighter/smoother running than Virtual Desktop. I noticed with the Link I would get horribly compressed images in Elite Dangerous that looked like a 240p youtube anime video. With Virtual Desktop, even if it may stutter for a second if I snap my head from one side of the cockpit to another, the game looks great and Elite Dangerous/Virtual Desktop takes full advantage of the deep black colors you get on the Quest. For VRChat it doesn't matter what you use, with Virtual Desktop you have the advantage of not even needing a cable to play. I think Virtual Desktop is the best way to play PC VR on the Quest unless you have a shit router, or you're playing something snappy with strict inputs like Alyx or Space Pirate Trainer
