Okay, so, I'm working on a VR game framework to sell to devs. I've got all of the usual suspects in terms of movement such as Teleport and Thumbstick, but I've created one more that I don't think I've seen in any other VR game. I call it "MirrorStep."
The idea is that you walk to the edge of your play area and then you will hit a trigger just shy of the boundary. This will quickly fade to black, flipping your play area 180 degrees around you as the pivot point. You can then do an about-face yourself and continue walking towards your intended destination.
Basically, you're pacing your play area back and forth in order to move forward in VR.

This is a movement method that requires no controller input and can scale to any size world. It's intended for wireless headsets and big play areas for obvious reasons. What do you think? It feels good in testing, but I'm not sure if it's intuitive.

Okay, I thought redirected walking was the method where you walked to the edge and then held a button to turn, but it looks like the name also applies to the automatic method. From what it looks like, if your play area is too small it can get nauseating as the world spins around you. Also, this method means that you can't just explore the space that you're in without temporarily turning the turning off.

While my mirror-step method isn't as seamless as redirected walking, it's also not nauseating and doesn't require the dev to make certain areas turn it off and then back on again, so I suppose there's that.

interesting idea by making it a framework that devs can just import/buy. Not to sure on your implementation though. There is a small community that walks in VR and many different ways have been tested. I think I've tried that method or something similar but with a button that flips the space. If you had a long but narrow playspace it might be well suited for that. Games like Gloomhaven set me back $100 true, but that game has hundreds of hours worth of content in it. Most dungeon crawler board games have a lot to them. Demeo is literally two, soon to be three, dungeons with very slight randomization, It helps that Gloomhaven does have a video game adaptation on Steam that's only $30 with almost as much content as the tabletop version. Demeo is worth a pirate though. I sideloaded the Quest version and had a good time before deleting it to free up space for games I'd play more than once.

I just tried it in OVR and WOW was it bad for me. I thought I had an iron VR stomach but clearly I have a ways to go before I can reach this level. I did also try Auto-Turn which is exactly what my implementation is: walk to the edge and get flipped automatically. It's good that it's a built-in option for OVR, but I guess my advantages are that it works with standalone Quest and devs can make experiences that are made with this system in mind.

Coop event! This time we are cooperating with tuesday movies to bring this one of a kind event. On tuesday (16th of November) L gonna show the Ford vs Ferrari movie, 24 hour LeMans race of 1966. Next monday after that we will race the same cars, at the same track.
It's gonna be a proper endurance race similar to 24 minutes of Spa, but this time we'll actually do the endurance bit. Usually our events take around 1.5 hours, so this time we'll have 30 minute practice/qualifiers and then 1 hour race. The objective gamemodes having respawns helps a lot. Dying without have done anything in Pavlov can be quite demoralizing but in Contractors you can get straight back into the action. It's much more casual friendly in that regard.

Disagree on this. The inventory in Contractors is basically impossible to use without looking down because everything is so close together and it doesn't stay in a fixed position anyway due to the lack of hip tracking. I prefer Pavlov's system where there's only a huge left, right, and back hitbox and magazines are specifically grabbed with the trigger. Aside from occasionally grabbing something from the side instead of the back or the floor, it works every time.

I like that everything is on your chest, so you can easily let go of your gun and grab a grenade without it dropping to the ground or having to reach over your back to deposit it, then pull it out again. You're talking to the wrong person, I don't care that much for Contractors and haven't played it recently. It's janky and aiming/shooting doesn't feel as good as it goes in pavlov.
They also changed a lot of the weapon sounds in a recent update and they don't sound as good to me as they did. Contractors fell into the same trap a lot of other VR games did, they should have spent their time reducing the jank and making the game feel good instead of wasting all of that development time making it quest compatible.

I played Pavlov somewhat recently and it was okay, but it's still basically the same game it's been for the past three years. It just doesn't hold my attention like it used to.

I was thinking of doing an actual video unboxing but besides being well cringe I don't have such a setup. Here is what you get with the early backerkit. 3 trackers(pre-equip with belt loop plates), 3 standard tripod plates(same the vive pucks), 3 usb-c to usb-a cables, 1 usb-a f-m extender, 1 Dongle mcDongleface(official name), 2 foot straps, 1 hip strap, and a nice surprise of some stickers. I assume for labeling your trackers.

If I recall they've released the specs needed to create your own plates. I'd also like to see how the 7 puck will ship. I guess they'll just move the two foot straps to the pouch seen on the inside of the top of the case. Though will they still only include 3 usbc to usb-a cables? If not will those also be put in the above pouch?

How long did it take for you to get used to driving in Assetto Corsa, anon?
I got used to regular movement in VRChat after maybe a week, but I'm still adjusting to vehicular movement.

I know things can't get worse than a WMR set (even though recent WMR witchcraft has actually fixed driving certain prefabs in VRChat like Tsumuri Kart) so I'm asking for just any kind of significant upgrade with better tracking that won't cost me a few month's salary (and isn't Oculus).

With wheel+VR, Assetto just clicked immediately for me. It felt a lot more natural and comfortable than regular character movement in other games and in a few hours I was already on my usual pace. Drifting also suddenly became a lot easier.

I finally bothered completing the Into the Radius compulsory tutorial after accidentally falling and dying at the end last time. It feels like the game is made for Oculus controllers only because the hands are really misaligned with Index. It is essentially impossible to hold pistols with two hands because it requires clipping the controllers through each other in real life otherwise it just swaps which hand you're holding it with. It feels really awkward to do anything.

It seems complicated at first but you learn to get going in the first 2 min of the tutorial.
I really enjoy manually operating the cockpit, turning knobs, pushing buttons, looking at screens, hearing alarms go off, all while fighting other jets or having a mission objective.
It feels really natural to control, great sense of speed, looking around while in the air is also a great feeling.

One thing I miss is more realistic explosions and destruction.

I definitely prefer how B&S handles climbing for one. Having your legs actually help you climb rather than them dangling in mid air as in Boneworks is great. It helps that B&S is properly moddable while SL0 refuses to make proper modding tools.

VTOL is basically the happy middle ground between Ace Combat(arcade flight game) and DCS world(hardcore flight simulator). You have to start your jet and the weapons and employment requires some knowledge, and you can use real world tactics for air to air and air to ground but it's very much simplified and easy to digest.

The rev 2 of the Reverb G2 helps a lot. I returned the original version of the Reverb G2 when I got it as a kept losing tracking. However the rev 2 has been good to me so far. I've only lost tracking once when reaching below my waist in Saints & Sinners. I'd say that it is almost as good as the Quest 2's tracking at this point. HP discounts the headset by $100 on their site regularly so it might be worth watching their site around Black Friday.

Not him but the only problem I have with grabbing things is that there's a grip point on the pistols that makes it switch hands instead of two-handing it. Costs me valuable seconds of reflex every time and I never use it except by accident when I don't want to. Have mentioned to the dev he should get rid of that grip point because I always just toss it at my other hand and catch it no problem instead of using that grip point. Vive controllers are oddly offset too but only when you're not holding an object.

I never had issues with VR movement, even from day one. This is probably because VR has never really managed to properly convince my brain so doing anything wacky regardless of locomotion method doesn't affect me, but regular IRL car motion sickness does.
Make sure you have any headshaking effects off, or anything that forcibly moves your head. Also, use a wheel, that will seriously alleviate most of it from what I understand.
