Describe the distortion. Mine has a very slight amount of distortion where looking at a perfectly straight line and moving my head causes it to bend like a wave just a tiny bit instead of moving perfectly proportionally to how much I move my head, but unless you're looking for it specifically, I stopped noticing it like 30 minutes into use. Samsung didn't fix it when I originally RMA'ed it for overheating, so I assume it's within spec.

Tried ergo kit hand straps today

I was not a retard and put them in the lower hole because I have normal sized adult bloke hands. Sticks and Buttons are comfortable to reach except the start/select buttons which can use hand shenanigans to stretch up there.

I'm coming from what I think are offical handstraps for the quest 2. They are stretchy with a rough striated fabric.

So what I actually don't like is the frame strap design itself. It's only a barely stretchy silicone with the facial interface fabric being the main contact surface. Because that's pretty smooth, you have to get them tight to give the same grip as my quest straps. And they leave red marks on your hands anyway. The contact is more comfortable but the lack of elasticity is less comfortable. Also getting my hands in the exact right location is finnicky, I have to grab the bottom of the hand strap and pull it in the exact right place to get the handhold I want, at least it stays there once I'm in. Other than that my fingers are just slightly misaligned with the grip buttons but still very useable. I think if valve just went with elastic fabric the difficulty would disappear. Not sure how grippy the fabric itself needs to be after that.

Also, on my quest I can tighten my fabric straps all the way and pretty comfortably use the controller without my hands through the straps. But with the frame straps once the straps are on, you have to get your hands in them so more casual pick up and put down is out.

It turns off, but it will always boot to being stuck on the logo. I was using it fine this morning, and I only turned the display off before I went to work. Tried turning the display back on and it wouldn't; I thought maybe the battery died somehow, so I plugged the charger in for about fifteen minutes. Yes, obviously MAC spoofing is possible, but unless that functionality is already built in to the headset it won't update so it won't be added. And if you're using unifi, it'll be really obvious if the headset does MAC spoof - it'll have multiple entries. MAC spoofing is a default for phones now because everyone connects them to all sorts of public networks, so it's too easy to make them trackable. I doubt that's something zucc worried about for VR headsets.

last night i had a very vivid dream where i was fully paralyzed, which i shrugged off as i'm no stranger to sleep paralysis. some moments later, i heard some very light scuffing, followed by some quick taps, immediately followed by the figure of a small gremlin avatar i've been obsessing about lately falling directly in front of my line of sight, sitting over my chest, displaying a very smug smile.
my memory of what happened next is kind of a blurry mess, but i remember them swinging their feet right in front of my face, toes wiggling. they pressed one foot against my mouth, then the other, back and forth, the whole time, that same teasing look never left their face.
then they leaned back, and brought one sole down my face, and shoved the other foot into my mouth, choking me.
the last thing i remember before passing out was them just enjoying my attempts to get both their feet of my face, pushing uselessly until my body gave out.
anyways, i've been trying to understand what this means, and this feels like this is the only place where i could ask

A damn good headset, and I'm saying it as someone who wrote one hundred complaint posts when I got mine. If you want a wired lighthouse headset, the only proper reason to choose against it would be price. Through time, mine proved reliable, I got used to low brightness/high smearing compromise adjustment slider, it's light and comfortable, it does the job as it should. At ~$700-$800, I'd recommend it without asterisks, at the price it's sold at I can only recommend it if you don't care about the price and really want a good wired lighthouse headset.

I like mine enough to use it over my steam frame still. The OLED is really nice. It's kind of hard to recommend if you don't already have lighthouses/index controllers but if you want a sidegrade from the index specifically on the dimensions it offers (lightweight, oled, still really good mic) and don't mind its compromises (low refresh rate, tiny sweetspot, need to pay even more for proper audio, expensive), it's at least been out long enough you can find nonshill reviews. For VRC, you probably want Quest Pro. BSB2E eyetracking is annoying, default software lags my PC. For anything else, I'd go with BSB2, it's great for vidya and you really benefit from resolution, optics image clarity, and benefits of real wired displayport connection.

It's about the same just from my subjective vibe. If I look for the pixels, I can see them. If I don't look for them I don't see them. I think people are mistaking the frame's lower brightness for screen door. It's kind of true that the dimmer screen can't power through the pixel gaps as well as a bright screen. But you can run the brightness on 120% if you have an added battery. I think after overdriving it's a little dimmer than a quest 3. Quest 2 doesn't have brightness issues because its fresnel, woopdie fucking doo. You aren't seeing screen door but you're seeing blurshit so who cares. Getting back in my quest 2 feels awful with the smaller fov and sweet spot.

The frame knuckle strap attachment system is really well thought out but the straps themselves are dumb. I don't know how you can be familiar with the elastic quest straps then decide to "improve" it with this rigid shit that's so hard to get into and mount it on my hands so it won't slip. Elastic instantly fits and feels great. It's like a bizarre clown world where the people that designed the frame HMD ergonomics made the quest controllers and the people who made the quest HMD made the frame controllers.

Even being greedy and making the straps an accessory, what's retarded is there is no need for two types of battery covers. Just ship the one with the mounting holes. That way strap kits are just a eye attachment and the strap and no one has to manufacture a battery door. Everyone benefits from completely removeable washable straps. Or people can 3d print the eyes and make their own straps because there's no third party shit that doesn't block LEDs and cover everything in grippy rubber that feels awful.

Right now the only good strap option for the frame is to buy the ergo kit for the battery door and eye piece then make your own strap, or buy a quest strap and mod it to Velcro into the controller. This is about $80.

I've just finished installing the ergo accessory kit and spacer. My first impressions are:

It's not for a normal person. If you play quite a bit of VR or you're interested in having a face PC the frame is worth it. It's not that the frame is amazing, it's that quest has made immutable decisions about the headset that forever inshitify it and you can't fix it with any amount of money. If quest 3 had a rear battery, TMR sticks, extra buttons for more gamepad parity, and a premium sound option approaching index quality it would be an amazing headset even with no eye tracking and meta bullshit. And it wouldn't cost that much more. But there's literally nothing I can do about those things so you have to buy a frame not to suffer. The ceiling for steaming quality being raised because of eyetracking is a bonus. If the eyetracking or the expansion port makes pyrowave work then it just assrapes the quest 3 and wireless foveated rendering is viable, but we aren't there yet. Part of the deal is expecting the frame to appreciate with software and hardware upgrades that may or may not happen.

The steam frame and SteamOS are a platform of “what if.” And are sold on the promise of “what if more developers started using valve’s software and hardware layout.
The problem is valve produces so little of their hardware that mass dev adoption is impossible because it’s not worth it, and so few people develop for their ecosystem that you end up with the worse of all worlds.
And just like how steam deck and steam machine are objectively better when you install windows, steam frame is objectively at its best when you stream your vr game from windows.

SteamOS is a failure of a concept and always has been. Big Picture mode accomplishes everything it does but with 100% compatibility, no translation layers, and no random instability brought about by Linux. The Frame sucks, but the Deck is actually a functional product and the OS on it is far better then Windows, in part because it's hyper optimized towards because unlike a large portion of the PC market, it's a standardized set of specs and drivers
