thank you for making a new thread
Too late for this op, but maybe next time have a rentry to unzucc the quest 2 as that question comes up quite often
Announcement July 18th?
>>388720918
Yeah, expect it to coincide with Half Life 3's announcement and Gaben going on a diet.
>>388721038
They have a VR Fest next month. If it isn't announced then the Valve VR future will look pretty grim...
>>388720865
Link to rentry? I'm sure that anyone who makes another thread would be happy to include a rentry if one existed.
>>388720918
Looks like it will have two cables for some reason, judging by the clips on the side.
>>388720918
Likelihood it's gonna be cheaper than the index? Base stations are pretty pricey so I imagine ditching them should bring the price down.
>>388721038
Gabe has lost some weight already
>>388721905
>Likelihood it's gonna be cheaper than the index?
are you retarded?
a bit over one day left to dirt rally around scotland
https://dirtrally2.dirtgame.com/clubs/club/395340
>>388721671
Two cables could be DP+USB C, maybe they’ve taken a leaf out of METAs book and you can use any DP cable + USB c cable ?
Also wasn’t their mention from sadly Bradley’s latest leaks OS that there is an option to select ‘Ethernet connection or wifi’? Would that mean you could plug deckard directly into a router?
so I got pretty hyped to try out that dark souls remastered VR mod that came out a few days ago but it's locked behind a fucking patreon. Is there a way to bypass that?
Tried playing Ruinsmagus and Dreamcather demos from the Steam Fest, and both are unplayable on an Index. Ruinsmagus won't recognize Index controllers, and Dreamcatcher won't show on the HMD at all.
Where can I find a VR prostitute with anime avatar

There are no motion controls, it's just keyboard and mouse or gamepad only with alternate eye rendering rather than normal rendering.

VR Chat
>>388724190
That's too bad to hear. I won't even bother with them then.
>>388724909
fuck I feel like a retard I checked kemono but I guess their search wants the exact account name. Thanks lad.
>>388720918
The rumors and leaks feel all over the place. I'm very curious what they're working on.
A standalone unit? I don't see the point if it's expensive or can't play VR games well.
An Index headstrap upgrade with dedicated wireless hardware? I think many have wanted that.
Something in the middle? Maybe it's both and they're two seperate things that are planned to work together? Either way I hope we hear about something next month.
>>388717950 (OP)
Congrats /vrgg/ we made it to bump limit!
Seems like as long as I post during the dead hrs I can help bridge it to survive. Let's gooooo
furry roleplay and shenanigans
https://vrch.at/qj9ga7c3 forgot link
>>388726721
I don't understand why they wouldn't work on lowering production costs of the Index. PCVR needs a compelling headset that isn't tied to Facebook's kikery.
>>388730449
I guess they're happy making money with their PCVR niche right now. Anything above entry level is either worse than the Index or uses the Index base stations/controllers so those parts have no reason to lower. Maybe the headset and full set will see a price reduction when Valve announce their next VR hardware but I think they're wary of cutting costs after the knuckles drift disaster, something that should have never happened to a controller that's already twice the price of the competition.
It was only a few years ago when people were hopeful that lighthouse base stations would rapidly come down in price. How wrong we were.
>>388724190
I didn't have issues running Ruinsmagus on an Index but I was a bit disappointed.
It was cute enough but they made so many strange design choices that don't sense in VR. It really felt to me that they don't have a firm understanding of the medium. So it's essentially a sort of bland dungeon crawler rpg with VR bolted on.
Which in a way is nice, VR games generally do not have NPC's and interacting with characters or being a part of a scene makes the story feel a lot more personal and immersive. However, the way they constantly use cutscenes is just bizarre given a VR context where you don't want perspective jumps and you have a perfectly good neck to look around you. There was one point in particular where it turns you 180 to look at a monster behind you then pops right back. Why?
The lack of interactions was also a bummer. I'm not sure how much of that is a limitation imposed due to it being made for the quest or not. No physics, can't really pick up anything, and colliders are huge and overtly simple so you can't get close to most of the environment.
Felt like a huge tease, I can see what I want in it but it's just not there. I don't understand how we're this many years into VR and we don't have something decent in this genre and this new game is falling for the same bad design decisions that affected VR games half a decade ago.
The Kayak game is actually legit, plays and runs well, I hope the full release has plenty of levels though
>>388739297
What I find sad is that Skyrim VR got all of that now that modders added in proper VR physics interactions and collisions with NPCs. The game and even the modded in adventures avoid cutscenes too, with Enderal's single opening FMV being the exception. Hardware limitations, but also devs not really being VR players themselves seems to hamper a lot of titles.
>>388724190
>Ruinsmagus won't recognize Index controllers
Played fine on mine initially, the second launch though the controllers weren't being tracked.
Restart of SteamVR fixed it.
>>388739297
I ranted about this in a previous thread, it feels like they're just bolting VR support onto a bargain bin title and don't really get what makes a VR game fun
Let me explore the town
Let me put on the hat myself
And let meheadpatIris
>>388744645
>>388739297
I'm having the same issue with so many demos that I'm starting to think the issue is on my end. Ruinsmagus, PunjiVR, Space Salvage, and Spy Robot all refuse to recognize my controllers. I'd assume there's something with my basestations, but I can navigate the SteamVR menu just fine, and managed to play Tomb Explorer and RFVR just fine. Those two demos were terrible, but at least they fucking worked.
Anybody here used a psvr on pc and can tell me whether it’s worth it or not? I find using quest 2 with pc cumbersome particularly for city car driving or euro truck
>>388751467
It's better for driving as you aren't using the actual controlers, but the Quest would still be a better option.
>>388740756
I did some searching after reading your post and was surprised to see Shartrim VR was actually worthwhile now with mods. Does spear mods (or any other weapon mods) work well with it ?
is there any updated voice mod framework for blade and sorcery? i need the oblivion voices so fucking bad
>>388721905
>Likelihood it's gonna be cheaper than the index?
Cheaper in a sense that, if you own the Index you most likely won't have to invest in a complete system and just replace headsets? Yes.
Cheaper in a sense that the new headset will be cheaper than the current headset? No.
>>388766124
I use both Animated Armoury and Heavy Armoury in my current playthrough which add spears, pikes, halberds, etc to the leveled lists with animations and everything. The guards have a pretty swanky fantasy viking look with them along with the capes that Cloaks of Skyrim give them and the beards that Beards of Power add.
>>388783836
Thanks. I might actually considering Skyrim VR. I'm not too happy that I'll dive into the modding rabbit hole again but hopefully the time investment is worth it since there really isn't any alternative in VR.
>>388726721
Knowing how Valve works they probably don't know what they're working on either.
>>388787278
I just hope there's the option to use it wirelessly. It would feel like a step backwards otherwise.
>>388788759
obviously
>>388788759
Wireless is all but confirmed at this point, don't worry.
have a bump
>>388789265
Hopefully it's true wireless and not jury rigged streaming bullshit like the Quest.
>>388795623
you mean the IEEE802 aylmao thing?
>>388795782
It will probably be that as they mentioned it in a patent, but I mean anything that can directly connect the headset to the computer in an official way, instead of having to buy a high speed router and third party software that introduces noticeable compression and latency.
I just want on board eye tracking.
Or even better full facial tracking.
>>388799231
Why?
>>388799231
It seems foolish to pass on eye tracking when PSVR2 and likely also the Quest 3 will feature it. With the exception of Sony who have to compromise to compete, I expect wireless and eye tracking to be the selling points of the next wave of consumer VR heasets.
>>388799231
Eye tracking would be pretty interesting to see on Beat Saber plays.
>>388801429
How so? Like custom blocks that appear only when looking at them?
>>388804640
He means showing where the player was looking afterwards.
Battle Sister needs a weapon range, I'm fine with most of the guns, but I can't for the life of me aim the meltagun.
>>388815215
either i am blind or the gun seems to not shoot projectiles, have you had the same experience or is there a projectile that comes out of the gun?
>>388815683
I've never seen a projectile come out of the gun, it's why it's so hard to aim. I've just got the plasma pistol so I'm hoping that's better.
2 days until Summer Sale
What'ya buying?
>>388817886
Maybe VTOL if it's on sale.
>>388817886
I too have been considering VTOL. I recently bought a 5600x and one of those fancy NVME things so I'm on a very limited budget this summer sale.
That Kayak game seems pretty good, I didn't try the race though so I'm wondering how much longevity it has.

>>388823429

>>388824430
you mean that dots on the front?
maybe they are testing more advanced tracking then just led shit
interesting that zuck didnt mention better tracking at all
>>388824739
I saw someone mention putting cameras directly on the controllers to eliminate occlusion entirely, but I can't remember where. Might have been Cambria leaks.
>>388787162
I'm in the same boat. Skyrim is not my favorite RPG. I like games like Gothic and Kingdom Come Deliverance more. But when it comes to VR it's miles ahead of the rest of the scene. Shit like Demeo and Karnage Chronicle are just sad, and only Asgard's Wrath is somewhat high quality. Once you get over the learning curve of setting everything up you will have a ton of quality content to play while delivering on everything a VR RPG should have.
How much of a bitch is linux and quest VR? Would i wind up being able-- i mean, HAVING to replace oculus' bullshit?
>>388825749
There's a game called Shadow Legend, which is really short and really janky, but a lot of the systems in place really showcase how well VR could be used for a full-fledged RPG like Elder Scrolls. Stuff like crafting and forging weapons, doing alchemy, fishing, cooking, etc are all done via VR interactions, which are, unsurprisingly, far more satisfying than Skyrim's menu-based interactions. The problem with Shadow Legend is that every single one of those systems is used precisely once, just as a distraction, and the rest of the game is a pretty bog-standard VR melee game.
>>388817886
fyi I've got insider knowledge that into the radius will be on sale in a few days.
I tried both Beat Saber and Ragnarock despite not being really into rhythm games, and personally, I think Ragnarock is the better experience for me. Not even including the soundtracks as a discussion point, I just like wailing on drums more than the lightsabers and directional cutting.
Also, I feel slightly vindicated by Thrill of the Fight. I got my brother a Quest 2 for his birthday, and saw him playing it, and he's in far greater shape than I am, and he still got tired after just one round.
>>388827553
>I just like wailing on drums more than the lightsabers and directional cutting.
download paraddile RIGHT NOW
>>388827289
Skyrim at least is getting better in that regard with the A Taste of the Wild which is supposed to add in immersive cooking/hunting. You can even shake the milk jars to make butter. That alongside Immersive Smithing from the same dev which adds things like properly hammering together items to craft and having to physically use grindstones to temper items should up the immersion a lot.
>>388717950 (OP)
is there a way to reduce the pixelation in VR? like playing project wingman on quest 2 Air Link looks so jank compared to the VR POV projected on my monitor.

It's the biggest VR title of the year somehow, so I'd say so. It looks like a real step up compared to the last F1 game VR aside. If the VR support is as well done as Dirt Rally 2.0's there's no way I won't buy the game.

Just download Tahrovin wabbajack, install it and boom.... You're good. Play the game.
>>388837896
Isn't that modlist the one with the bestiality stuff in it? I'm not sure if that's a good idea especially if you leave in a place where that stuff is illegal. I think overall it's best to learn how to use MO2+xEdit yourself as you can curate things exactly without any undesirable additions.
>>388842430
I think there's virtually no places where fictional bestiality is illegal, besides maybe police states like Australia, and it's not like anybody is gonna come after you just for a skyrim mod. An anon did say in another thread that those mods can cause technical problems though.
>>388843174
FNIS which is required for the zoophilia stuff has a lot of issues outside of it being abandoned and out of date. The performance is terrible and its incompatible with all of the new combat overhaul mods like SkySA which is needed to stop the ice skating in the game along with improving the combat a ton. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHvP_7JS7o8
I'd much rather have the better performance and much better animations and combat that Nemesis adds than the ability to have anal sex with horses, but it's ultimately a matter of taste. Nemesis generates a dummy FNIS.esp too so any non-creature animations which say they depend on FNIS will work. As a result I can't recommend anyone using FNIS or any mod list that uses FNIS.
>>388827553
I like Ragnarock a lot more as the high level songs for it don't usually devolve into wrist flailing that has little to do with the actual music. The drum rolls actually fit the music. I still think that Synth Riders is the golden standard when it comes to really avoiding wagglin as you have to use your whole body to play it.

I recently got full Volvo Index set (brand new) for 700$. Was it a bad choice considering newer VRs are around the corner?
>>388893947
No, index is a good headset and release of a new device won't make it worse in any way. Deckard isn't even officially announced yet, not to mention finished, produced, or shipped to users.

>>388893947
Yes. This Quest 2 of mine is just to hold me over until the Index 2 gets announced and released. I'd still be using my Rift S if the left controller wasn't suffering fatal stick drift that's impossible to fix.

Hello Heisters!
The Midland Ranch heist is the first chapter in the epic saga we call Texas Heat. Our fearless heisters have headed down south and are getting ready to gain another ally and another mortal foe.
Midland Ranch
Gemma McShay has come to us with a proposition, a way we can make some cash and take out her main rival in a single blow. Notorious gunrunner Esteban Santiago runs his operation out of a ranch compound in rural Texas. No cattle or horse riding lessons here, just a massive collection of weapon prototypes worth a fortune on the black market. If we can get those guns to Gemma, she'll pay us top dollar. And if we can sabotage Esteban's workshop on the way out, we'll get a nice bonus. Bring some big iron or sneak in undetected, the choice is yours, but Esteban's operation will take a heavy blow today.
new payday2 heist just came out, I'll buy it before our next lobby though I'm working the entire weekend, could play on Thursday if that works
>>388893947
Nothing is right around the corner. We have some patents and references to new features in SteamVR but nothing to indicate a product close to production. The Steam VR fest could be a complete nothing burger but if they announce something I doubt we'll see it in consumer hands until well into 2023.
Quest 3 is also probably mid-late 2023 and we won't hear the rumor mill ramp up for it until Qualcomm reveal their next XR chip, likely at the end of this year.
>>388721038

Yes/no, depends on you.
The index is overkill for most VR gamers. If you're not doing room scale there's no reason at all you should have anything more expensive than a Quest 2.
If you are.looking for room scale, the Valve Index is a top tier setup and $700 is a low price for it. You can probably resell in a few years for $300-$500 if you keep it in good condition
it's getting too hot to play vr...

Do you guys use any kind of knee protectors when playing games where you need to crouch or kneel often? I'm playing on a hard floor so if I need to kneel in VR quickly for one or another reason it really fucks up my knees.
Was considering maybe buying one of those protectors cyclists use or just some DIY padding
>try to set up full body tracking
>having the straps on my feet with socks in is mildly uncomfortable
>the trackstrap belt won't stay tight around my waist, causing the tracker to have a little bit of slack
I might go fuck it and pull out the duct tape when it comes to the belt. As for the straps, I always either put them on too tight causing discomfort or too loose causing the trackers to shift, fucking things over.
Is full body tracking really always this cumbersome?
>>388958156
I use the trackstrap pluses and they just work for me as a non-fat person. I need to tighten the waist strap but that's it.
>>388958156

>>388956959

>>388959785
I like them in Blade & Sorcery. Having precise control over your hitbox makes the game miles better than other melee focused games for me. Games like Gurrah where your body always lags behind where it should be, allowing you to get hit easily, are lame. It also gives you way more control over your hoverboard in Jet Island as you can tilt and even kick flip rather than just relying on your jets+grappling hook. I use a Vive tracker for Eleven Table Tennis as it's way more immersive to have a tracker attacked to a faux paddles, especially as you can properly change your grip and rotate the paddle.
That said, the real best reason to use Vive pucks is for VAM. Being able to control your waist is mandatory in that game IMO.
>>388959785
Dragon Fist has FBT support now. One of the first games in a long time to add it. Makes a lot of sense in a kung fu game.
>>388960271
>Jet Island
it supports fbt? neat
>>388962896
Yeah, the last patch added it in. It took a bit of fiddling to get it to work, but in a game focused on hoverboard usage it's a definite improvement to be able to actually use your feet.

interesting, I have some extra Vive wands and a Steam controller dongle I could convert to a tracker setup. Although does B&S work better with wands or Index? >>388979260
Green Hell VR seems pretty good if you can run it, I haven't tried it myself but it seems pretty well integrated for VR.
>>388979260
we need arma vr. We already have couple of decent weapon sims and flight sim. what we need is someone to make the rest of the interactions.

VRFPS with a good campaign. Enough said.
More immersive sim style dungeon crawlers. Ancient dungeon and a few others before it showed how well it works so why don't we have any higher profile ones?
Fall Guys VR, we're getting Amongus so why not Fall Guys? VRChat jank isn't good enough, a proper game can do so much more with movement and physics. Damn shame Gorilla Tag never went this route.
Games with VR cockpits. VTOL and Vox made me fall in love with it. Here's an idea, a roguelike mech/vehicle game where you place upgrades in the cockpit yourself, new buttons, screens etc for new weapons and upgrades.
I can see the interest in God games but I think it's one of those genres that hasn't been fully figured out for VR yet.
>>388979260
Give me some good co-op PVE experiences that aren't just super short and arcadey, like After the Fall. Things like Arizona Sunshine, but more modern and polished.

Blade & Sorcery uses Index grabbing extensively. I'd say play it with Index controllers and keep the wands on your feet or hip or w/e.
Any laptop recommendations? I recently bought an advantage edition rog strix with an RX6800M (performance equates to a slightly undervolted desktop RX6700 XT)
Flat screen games run quite well as they should, but vr on my quest 2 definitely takes a massive hit. I even get sub 50 fps drops when there are more than 8 limbs in Gorn lol. There are some good 3070 laptops on sale right now and the strix has a 3 month return window from costco. Should I keep it or opt out for some of the better looking 3070 options? From what i've heard, vr (especially quest) performance wildly fluctuates depending on driver versions for RDNA2 AMD cards. I haven't seen this complaint for the lower ends like the 580.
The feature set on the 3070 looks to be better as well with DLSS which is still much further ahead of FSR. I've also heard of people playing alyx on ultra with the 2070 laptops from last gen without framedrops. Should I give it a go? the 6800m is definetly higher value when it comes to raw performance in flatscreen but that doesnt translate to vr it seems.

Immersive Sims. Still not one worthwhile Deus Ex or Thief Clone in VR beyond modding Thief mechanics into Skyrim. It's pathetic, but the budget for VR games is too tiny to produce something like that.

Laptops are a meme. Just buy a desktop PC, the crypto is crashing and gpu have normalized for quite a while already.
>BUT MUH PORTABILITY
Just shut the fuck up. We both know you don't actually need it. Plus gaming laptops are not in any way, shape or form ACTUALLY portable, they are heavy, noisy and have low battery.
Basically, buy a fucking desktop.
>>388988607
>Build desktop PC for a much more powerful machine for your money
>Get Steam Deck for $400 if you absolutely need to play games on the go with a fraction of the money you have saved
Gaming laptops are a joke.
>>388988607
AMD is categorically worse than Nvidia in VR performance and their encoding on the Quest 2 is particularly shit, because the Q2 does not have native PCVR displayport but has to be compressed and then sent to the HMD like a stream. If the prices are similar then you really want Nvidia.
A mobile RTX 3070, as long as it's not a dogshit lower wattage version and is an ungimped 130w ver, will run you fairly well in VR though. Also, HL:A is not a good benchmark for normal use because it uses (Very good) dynamic resolution to scale itself based on your performance. Unless you disable that feature it's a bad benchmark.
Unless you absolutely need portability then you should really get a desktop.

Gayming laptops may not be as portable as a fucking ultrabook but that slight edge is still worth it. I cant vr AT ALL in the room where my desktop is. There's not enough room + a whole bunch of sitting wires on the ground. I can only play seated. I can actually set up the laptop in my parents living room which is pretty spacious with a full guarantee that I wont slam anything to the ground.
>Get Steam Deck for $400
The machine isn't exclusively being used to game with. I've been doing some video editing and music production plus general school shit. I've also been going back and forth between my parent's place and my apartment in a different city so the portability, while being a bit tedious with the huge power supply, is still serving me very well
>>388990660

>>388995279
Then Lenovo 5 should work great for you. It's one of the better performing laptops.
Just be aware to enable the Mux switch to switch to dedicated graphics before you VR game. The Q2 has a CPU overhead due to the compression and in CPU bound scenarios, not switching to dedicated graphics can cripple you in double digit %s. Because the Q2 is not using a dedicated displayport, it doesn't automatically bypass it so you have to manually restart and enable it.

Watching end of evangelion
>>388997604
Ah that makes some sense. the strix doesnt even have a mux switch making it an automatic rainy day scenario for the Q2. The only legion 5 available here is the canada spec which has the same gpu wattage + mux as the main spec legion 5 but has a smaller 60wh battery and white backlit keyboard instead of rgb. Nevertheless, its definetly the best 3070 option for the price in leaf land where laptop options are so limited. Im pretty excited for dlss + decent drivers having been plagued with issues since day one of buying a desktop 5700 xt.

Cope as much as you want. I've fell for gayming laptop meme before, so I know exactly what it is like. You cannot go against laws of physics. Simple as.
Is there a list of vr games that support FBT?
Was suprised to read that stuff like Jet Island and Dragon Fist have it supported.
Always assumed B&S and VRChat were kind of the only ones

PATCH 2.3 BETA 1
Hello, explorers!
A smaller update than before, but an important one nonetheless. With features and changes we hope you’ll most certainly enjoy.
To experience this update you have to first switch the Steam branch to "active beta". You can do so by right clicking the game in your library and opening Properties.Note this is a beta, so there's a high chance of encountering unexpected bugs. Please let us know about them so we can fix them ASAP.
FEATURES
Guitar. Added a guitar with selectable chords to play and relax. Accessible through a new tab in the store: Recreational Goods.
Added proper hand poses for drawers, doors, and physical objects.
AMD FSR is integrated into the game. Players can now choose an upscaling method from TAAU, FSR and DLSS. With a separate sharpness option.
New sounds for all weapons.
Added more atmospheric sounds to locations.
Changes to Pervomay route.
New visuals for backpack and side pouch area indicators.
Discord Rich Presence. Finally you’ll be able to see what your fellow explorers are up to in the Radius just by clicking on their Discord profile.
BALANCE AND CHANGES
New loot places on Kolhoz and Factory.
Reduced amounts of drawers in some shelf types so it's less annoying to search for loot.
Changed bracelet placement in the 1st mission to reduce search time.
Added lighting to buttons on the handheld map.
Grenades no longer explode from the slightest damage.
FIXES
Fixed multiple collision holes players could fall through in Bolotki village.
Fixed ammo stats indicator not displaying the correct amount of protection.
Fixed sounds sometimes not being played if spawned inside buildings.
Fixed BTR engine sounds jittering.
Improved rock collisions on Factory.
Fixed multiple bugs of low objects blocking player path.
>>389026490
Yes I have actually. Partial success with soldering on a new thumbstic,. I bought some FJ06K-S sticks from aliexpress and desoldered the old one and solderer a new one.
>>389057827
Oh shit hit send accidentally.
tl;dr : It's hard to desolder, the ribbon cables and their connectors are fragile (easy to tear etc), and the fucking replacements get drift too.
However it technically did work.
My advice if you do want to try is:
Get a good iron (Temp controlled); the industrial solder is hard to wet.
Get both a sucker and some wick to clean solder from the holes
It's a tricky desolder since it's tiny.
the socket on the back of the circuitboard is fragile!
Try to take the old one out in parts.

Does this mean they won't go off with a lighter?
>>389074349
They probably detonate at 0% durability so you'll have to hold the lighter on them for longer.
I have a question and maybe an idea for a future game for the devs out there
Is there any game like tabletop simulator or Tavern Tales where you have the DM making the maps and encounters and also narrating, but have the players actually play in those maps? Not with figures, but them, actually down there, while the DM oversees everything
In my view it could have a simplified DnD system and turn based attacks where you could make your attack and the outcome would be defined by a dice roll, but you yourself decided how you'd do it
Idk, just seems very weird that something like this doesn't exist already
>>389074746
Ah just like ammo boxes.
>>388979260
RTS easily, where our base builder game with units? I know there's a crappy demo like it, but an actually good looking and playing game for once.
>>389077336
You can't get high enough APM for an RTS to be good in vr. It's like playing an RTS without any keyboard shortcuts or minimap navigation. Final Assault tried but had horrific balance issues and neglected so much of the battle layers that it isn't really worth getting into. A god game like black and white however...
>>389077175
That's kind of what Dungeon Full Dive is doing, but it's more of a VR equivalent of Roll 20 or FoundryVTT than something like Neverwinter Nights' DM mode.

>>389077175
I had the same idea, except with actual combat instead of turn-based RNG, that's for nerds, and with the DM jumping into NPCs with a voice modulator.
There'd be a lot of complex puppetry and setup for the most immersive experience, but it wouldn't be required.
>>389082575
Don't know how actual combat would work for a tabletop RPG tho
Jumping into NPCs is dope tho, dungeon full dive has that apparently but there's only like one gameplay video

>>389082575
>>389077175
unironically, get into vrchat
there are surprisingly large roleplay communities that already do very similar things on a regular basis
>40+ people, in character, wandering a world custom-made for the story, each with their own homes, workplaces, goals
>some number of other real people playing the part of NPCs (city guards, enemies, etc.)
>one or a few DMs controlling world events and major story elements
>real time combat (awkward considering it's vrc but that's come a long way recently)
i've only participated once or twice in smaller groups but it's probably the most truly immersed in vr i've felt in a long time
the really big ones stream on twitch too and it's pretty fun to watch everything going on behind the scenes

>>389090159
I was thinking less "40+ people doing a LARP in a micro-mmo" and more "normal-sized tabletop group torturing a DM to multitask 5 different things and not following the path he spents 3 months placing cool npcs and challenges on"
Not like I'd play either, can't do social interactions.

>>389101194
With Assetto at least the game's VR support is lackluster with the UI being entirely desktop, and it doesn't even seem to work with my wheel properly. Even mods don't seem to fix that. Codemasters can at least do good VR and wheel support as seen with Dirt Rally 2.0. They could easily fuck it up given the absolute state of other studios EA bought out, but right now F1 22' is looking like a way less finicky experience.
>>389088830
>How are the temps?
Im not going to lie, they get hot.
CPU will sit at 90, GPU 80~85
I wouldn't go higher than a 3070 though, heatwise afaik the laptops cooling can deal with about 140watt from GPU, 60watt from CPU constantly, so above 3070 gets more wasteful
The newest gen added meme tier external liquid cooling https://youtu.be/u5JcaAP9uMc
The vid has just air temps which match to my older model
>how tf is it only 2.1kg?
I literally don't know, especially since it feels really well built, not cheap at all. Feels better than my enterprise grade $4000 dell work laptop which weighs 1kg more.
>Does it have fan control software?
Yes and its the best ive used tbdesu. You can choose your own fan profiles (temp vs speed), and power limits for CPU + GPU, + inbuilt overclocking or undervolting depending on the hardware.
3 profiles to swap between on button, or add application watch triggers to automate it.
Disable optimus through it (needs reboot)
You can even get the whole machine to run at 40hz on battery for max longevity
(Its also not overdesigned like most "gaming centres")
>Also aren't these the rebranded as walmart laptops lol
Yep lol, so see if you can grab a used one from an idiot for cheap.
Note: i have the ryzen 5800 one, so its DDR4-3200 and only PCIE 3, and no XMP instead of DDR5 AND PCIE4 in the newer ones if you care.
Also try from cyberpowerpc instead, looks much better price wise. They have a Tracer V Edge Pro l15x 350 on clearance for $1415 USD which is insanely cheap
(Maybe the legion is good too tho, idk the pricing for them is fucked here so i didnt really care about them, i think maybe they cant hold 140watt without boost?)
>bringing back to VR
Quest 2 drivers or something seem fucky with it, probs optimus related like mentioned so likely on all laptops. Will sometimes run like 40fps garbage and i need to restart to resolve. I think it just grabs the wrong GPU for rendering.
hmu if you need to know more
Kinda blows me away how VTOL VR, a game made by a single dude, despite being simple and arcadey in many ways, manage to be more realistic than DCS in others and actually fucking fun to play. Really shows you what passion can do to a game.

you could definitely do it with less people, but it tends to be much further on the spectrum towards larping if you want to be there 'in person' in vr
either you use existing worlds and make shit up as you go or create worlds specifically for the purpose, but you lose a lot of your ability to modify things on the fly
i could definitely see something made for that purpose specifically being really neat, but the scope of that kind of project would probably be too much to deal with unless you were making assets for your campaign only

The whole package seems very attractive ngl. Hopefully the 11800h in the Tracer V stays cooler cause of the liquid metal but the differences are probably gonna be marginal.
I did some more research and apparently different vendors have different bios and built in software and some are better than others. I might have to check with some nerds on some dedicated tongfang disc server or something.
Do the fans ever spin on normal work loads?(multiple tabs and excel spreadsheet type shit) Fucking advantage edition manages to push the cpu to mid 70s while im watching a fucking youtube video.
Also the product page doesn't specify the battery wh and the 2560 screen is labeled only as "LCD" lol do they make panels other than ips?
>>389114589
Think twice. You are going to regret it. The are loud and hot, if it doesn't power off when you go full tilt right away, it will do so in 4 months after it collected some dust, and maintenance is a bitch.
Laptop overclocking is worse, extensibility is worse, motherboard bios is worse, driver support is worse.
But if you want, you can waste money and experience a gayming laptop meme for yourself.
Saying all this just because I would have wanted for someone to tell it me, before I fell for that meme myself.

Mostly 30% fan speeds for internet browsing and basic excel and adobe shit + a video playing. Barely audible and will sit at about 50 degrees like this.
You can always limit power or do the custom fans if you want silent though
>different vendors have different bios and built in software
Kind of true but also not
All the software is the exact same, but vendors can choose which features they do/dont want. If you were a vendor and it was free and available why wouldnt you just tick all the boxes, your only shooting yourself in the foot competition wise.
I'm running the infinity BIOS + XMG control center. I also tried flashed the XMG BIOS but the keyboard mapping was wrong.
>2560 screen is labeled only as "LCD" lol do they make panels other than ips?

Not the heckin maintenancearino, oh nooo
I cleaned mine for the 1st time in a year last week. I have a dog that molts, femboy tier hair length, a fucking dusty place for some reason (inb4 clean, i do, it just gets dusty really fast cause of all the trees around or my garden or something), and i use it on the go, in car, bed, ive sanded ABS platic next to it, etc etc.
It was honestly surprisingly clean, vents barely impeded.
The cooler fins don't have the heatpipe centered like older designs ive had, instead its on one edge so i think it provides less surface for stuff to get caught on.
Also i think because the air is so much higher velocity than my older laptops it blows the majority of stuff clear instead of stalling and getting stuck.
Access is also like 10 screws and no fragile clips, super easy to access and clean, took all of 30 minutes.

>Quest 2 drivers or something seem fucky with it, probs optimus related like mentioned so likely on all laptops. Will sometimes run like 40fps garbage and i need to restart to resolve. I think it just grabs the wrong GPU for rendering.
hmu if you need to know more
Was optimus turned off in this scenario?
>>389125259
If you're using the Quest 2 that doesn't matter due to the fact it's a compressed stream and not direct display output.
>>389125842
Nah optimus was on, im too lazy to disable
>>389126651
Kinda wish I'd realised this when I was getting the Quest 2, if I'd known I would have waited for the Pico Neo 3
>>389141406
Pico is still going to be compressed though i thought, its still over 5ghz wifi
>>389142235
Not if you're played wired. It has a dedicated displayport connection.

The Deep Rock Galactic VR mod got FBT support an hour ago. It's genuinely useful as the game doesn't let you carry things while shooting. Now if you are good with your feet you can ferry along eggs or aquarqs while keeping a gun in hand. That and it's just more immersive to kick barrels with your actual feet than to press a button.
Is there a proper list with all games that support FBT or other extra functions like finger tracking and peripherals, even with mods, that still gets updated? There was a google doc but I'm sure that's outdated.
Hell, we don't even have a proper "games with vr mods list/wiki", so probably not.

This curator goes over levels of Index controller support including explicitly labeling all titles that have finger tracking.

is modded fallout4vr worth getting?
I think I've seen mixed opinions here
>>389206390
With FRIK and Kabuto VR I think that it's definitely worth it. It's a game where a heavily modded setup will run much better than the game without mods due to Bethesda's shitty optimization. Don't take people who haven't played it with mods seriously.

How is Borderlands2 VR
>>389209352
It works pretty well with community bindings. My main gripe is that Borderlands 2 is a game that is only fun with friends, and there is no co-op in the VR version. Otherwise it runs well and has all of the DLC except for the last Lilith DLC.
>>389207381
Do the seggs mods work with it yet?

>>389184301
I already have everything that I actually want, so I'm not sure about the rest. Are Vanishing Realms or 8089 any good? I want a decent RPG.
How's Payday 2 VR? I played like 500 hours on flat but I still get the itch sometimes. Is it pure jank or is it actually fun?
>>389219427
It's very fun once you set it up, I have 200 hours playing it VR and host lobbies 1-2 times a week. You can interact with one hand and shoot with the other one.
Driving vechiles also works quite well.

Any recommendations for some lesser-known VR games? Nothing multiplayer-only. Possibly related, but Wanderer is good.
>>389184301
Got Legendary Tales. Definitely not as robust as blade and sorcery, but I'm so happy to finally have a VR RPG with actual gameplay and stats. And Diablo music?
Multiplayer seems like it would be fun too.
>>389224752
Ancient Dungeon
>>389224752
Bean Stalker is pretty fun. It's in inverted dungeon crawler where you kill things, collect materials, and give back to your base to craft better stuff until you kill all of the bosses. The climbing mechanics and zip lining are a hoot in VR, which are built in top of normal smooth locomotion of course.
>>389219427
It's lots of fun with the mods linked in the Rentry in the OP. It has a lot of nice touches like immersive forklift driving. As you already have the game you may as well take five minutes to install said mods and give it a try.
Thoughts? I have no idea how well Dead Effect 2 holds up on its own.
>>389227216
I don't have it installed cuz it's bloated to shit and every update used to take hours no matter the download speed. I'm intrigued now so I'll definitely try it out when I get bored of what I got in the summer sales, cheers.
Which of these are worth the current sale prices?
>Sairento
>Windlands 2

>>389233125
Ancient Dungeon looked cool but I'm not spending 20 bucks for an early access pixel dungeon crawler.
I recommend wizardry 6 instead.
>>389233653
I don't think that one has a VR mod
I enjoy throwing the knife in Ancient Dungeon
full steam sale with VR tag
https://steamdb.info/sales/?min_reviews=500&min_rating=60&min_discount=20&tagid=21978
also Outer Wilds is 40% off and has an excellent VR mod.
>>389233125
I like Ragnarock and Bean Stalker.
>>389233653
Wizardry 6 is nothing like Ancient Dungeon. That said I still find it a bit hard to recommend Ancient Dungeon. It's fun, but after a couple of clears it just gets boring fighting the same few bosses every time and hoping you get the right upgrades to make the fights less tedious. The plant boss from an earlier version still hasn't been reimplimented. For $20 or whatever they are asking it could be much better.
>>389233125
Ragnarock is good. I wouldn't bother with Unknightly. There's very little there, what's there is incredibly janky, and it hasn't gotten a content update since October 2020.
>>389233971
>>389234209
Yeah I was just jesting, Ancient Dungeon actually looked like a pretty good but yeah, the lack of replayability is what put me on the fence in the first place, I'll probably wait for a couple patch see how it goes.
I've had some of these games in my wishlist for a while, and I'm wondering if anyone has played them, and if they're worth picking up this sale:

>Wraith the Oblivion Afterlife
>AD 2047
>Hell Road

>>389236268
Gal Gun 2 is pretty fun in VR. It's a rail shooter with a silly plot which is worth more than one playthrough to full upgrade your gun and get all of the endings. It shares the same setting as the Gunvolt games if you have ever played those.
For those who have played Master Bladesmith, what are you supposed to do after doing the Time Chamber for the first time? I got to level 8 and left, but the talking head wasn't there anymore. Am I supposed to grind until I have enough to buy some fuel crystals to mine? What do I do with the XP scrolls?
Is into the radius worth the $30?

is there some underground VR content in roblox that i'm missing out on?
How good is the lore for Into the Radius?
I like survival games that allow me to explore the lore through picking up notes and going to places that visually tell a story.
>>389257535
I like how it keeps the mystery of the zone(tm) through the entire game, keeping you involved, making you curious. There is indeed lots of bits, notes, the main story involves this one girl who talks about the life before shit went down. It's not terribly deep or serious, but it sure gives off right kind of vibes.
>>389236268
>>Wraith the Oblivion Afterlife
Honestly, I have the game, but hear me out, the enemies are ghosts, so they are going to boo at you.
That's right motherfucker, the first enemy was so anticlimatic I deinstalled. Game builds up all this tension that eats you from within and then there he is, that motherfucker, the first enemy.
He kinda stands there, and goes like "aaaaah, I'm gonna boooo". And you lose health. That's it. So I deinstalled, I'm gonna give it a second chance soon, tho.
>>389228783
Dead Effect 2 is a fun game, have manual reload and all that, def worth the price. It has content.
>>389212070

Don't bother. It's shovelware.
Is vtol vr and pavlov any good?
I have just enough to get both.
>>389289139

>>389289598
Pavlov and Contractors are the only multiplayer VRFPSs worth playing. I don't own VTOL.
>>389290051

>>389290570
The single player content isn't worth buying for.
>>389233125
>Everslaught
Has anyone here played it? Looks kinda cool but it is early access roguelite
>>389295923
With the last update the combat is FUN, but there isn't much of an endgame right now beyond just hacking zombies and collecting loot via a very basic loot system. It's not a roguelite where clearing it at all is the goal, you will be clearing at the very start and just doing it over and over again.
Which survival game should I get, The Forrest VR or Green Hell VR?
>>389301673
Get Song in the Smoke. That game is actually polished, made for VR, and performs well too. Green Hell still has too many issues..
Anyone using the Oculus software on Windows 11? I heard there was some issues with it.
>>389261698
>>389263571
Oh I see. Sounds like a skip
>>389303718
It's a shame really, EA has the money to make Star Wars games that look and sound great, but then they turn them into shitty multiplayer games.

>>389263571
There's a VR mod for an older game. I think it's the tie fighter one? Try it out!
>>389302876
Nice recommendation. Only recently got a headset and hadn't heard about this one.
>>389209518
nta but I tried it just now and it's pretty janky - crosshair is offset, can't sprint, iron sights are off on most guns, can't "two hand" weapons properly
But overall playable, sadly I get periodic stutters every 10 seconds no matter the settings
Any motorcycling games in the Steam sale right now? FFB wheel support would be preferable.

I still love my Lancia. This was a fun gas balancing act
Thoughts on the following potential purchases:
* Blade & Sorcery
* Fallout 4 VR
* H3VR
* Thrill of the Fight
B&S is the definitive melee murder simulator and has lots of mod potential
FO4VR I hear is finally at the level of mod maturity to fix the Bethesda jank (although not SkyrimVR yet)
H3VR for some gun autism
TOTF for punching people in the face in a more structured form than B&S
Also considering Legendary Tales but not sure if should wait for more discount.
Any other little gems? Someone mentioned Bean Stalker which looks neat.
Got another Oculus30 code, what's worth buying? I had a game in mind but it went on sale so I just bought it without the discount.
Should I play outer wilds from the start in VR? Or try it in VR after finishing it
>>389322542
You can't experience it twice
>>389322542
Just got it on this sale and doing VR from the very start
>>389320151
Blade and sorcery as well as H3VR suffer from the same issue; that is they have amazing frameworks for what they set out to do but there's next to fuck all to actually do and engage with. Blade and sorcery kinda alleviates this with mods.
Legendary tales has more actual content, but is quite pricey compared to other games. I can see they were going for a lot of elements from Diablo like random loot stats and skill trees.
Havent played any of the others
>>389320151
I don't like Legendary Tales. It's extremely repetitive and grindy. There are three enemy types total you fight in the game. It's made by Korean devs after all. It doesn't help that the tutorial is intentionally two hours long so you can't refund it.
I got Project Wingman from the sale, and my Logitech 3d Extreme Pro is not working on it, disabling Steam Controller Input not fixing the issue either. I can't find an answer on google you guys love this game, what do I do to get it working?
No, upgrading to hotas is not the answer I seek. I dont have the money for it right now anyway
Also performance is bad in the menus but alright ingame, any tips for generally improving performance for this game (RTX 3080 12GB, Index VR, i11 pro)
>>389330631
is it being picked up in the controller configuration for example do you see the axis moving when moving the stick?
The games support for flight sticks is very limited (no menus)
>>389330631
You have to manually map HOTAS controls in Project Wingman. It's a bit of a pain, but considering how few buttons it uses, not that big of a problem. You will have to use a mouse to navigate the menus though, unfortunately. But it should work, I've used 2 different HOTAS with it.
As for performance, PW in general is far more demanding in VR than one might expect from a game like it, it's not the most well optimized for it. The biggest resource hog is shadows. If you really want to boost performance us the FSR mod/VRPerfkit. I play on a Pimax 8k X so vastly higher res than the Valve Index, but it legitimately boosted my performance by almost 40% using the ultra quality FSR prest.
>>389320151
FO4VR is the worst mainline Fallout, but like other Bethesda games is pretty fun with mods. It has actual content too which puts it above 99% of VR games sadly. Sim Settlements works in VR which is nice. A main caveat is that XDI, the mod that allows you to get more dialogue options, doesn't work in VR. So mods like the Point Lookout port and the coming Fallout NV port which rely on extra dialogue don't work. I got a CD key for $8 and think I got my money's worth.
Bean Stalker is good too. It took me like ~20 hours to 100% it (15 if I didn't die like a retard so often), but there aren't a lot of reason to come back to it once you've killed all of the bosses. The Ice Sword is the best weapon with no real downsides, so once you have that build variety plummets. It has co-op if you care about that, being able to grab onto your friends, fling yourself off of them, and fight harder versions of the bosses is fun if you have buddies to try it with. They are going to add one more Beanstalk, the volcanic stalk, which should arrive 'soon'. For $10 I'll definitely say that it's a good purchase.
After the Fall is finally on sale for 30% off if you guys also thought $40 was too pricey!
I just bought it and I'm wondering if you guys think there could be enough people to host a lobby?
>>389333221
I'm down any time. The game is pretty fun, and the devs actually listened to the community and patched out gay shit like duplicate upgrades. Make sure to play with manual reloading turned on for the damage bonus.
>>389320151
I agree with the criticisms anons gave you about H3VR and B&S. H3VR is fantastic gun porn, I just wish there was a fucking game to go with it. Thrill of the Fight is an excellent workout, but because it's such an excellent workout, it suffers a tiny bit as a boxing game. What I mean is, because it's so sim-y, you're not going to get the power fantasy of boxing games, if that makes any sense. Creed is a better arcady boxing game. Personally, I think there's room in a person's VR library for both Creed and TofT, because despite being in the same genre, they serve two different purposes.
>>389333221
It's worth it at that price in my opinion. The gunplay is smooth and the way zombies gib or explode makes them satisfying to shoot.
>>389335874
Is there singleplayer? Or do people mostly play it for the multiplayer?
>>389339207
Singleplayer is just running co-op with dumb bots. You have to play it with others to really make it fun.
>>389335874
I like that you there is some strategy involved in how you gib them. With armored husks at any difficult but the lowest you have to choose to shoot them in spots which aren't armored if you want to take them down quickly, which means the legs if their head isn't armored as they will resort to crawling at that point. Playing other zombie games like Saints & Sinners where you can't chop of legs is lame, and even lamer in let's say Contractor's zombie mode where you can't seem to blow of limbs at all.
Has anyone here played Catch & Release, a fishing sim?
>trying to find a game to use my OCULUS30 coupon on
>everything is already 30% or more off
What did Oculus mean by this?
>>389342145
You actually can blow off zombies limbs in Contractors but you have to play for 30 minutes until you unlock the ability to do it on the skill tree. And on top of that it's not even good.
>>389301673
Valheim VR
I want to shamelessly shill the game Wanderer. It's not only a good puzzle/adventure game, there's a bit where you play the drums in an alternate reality Woodstock, and it's a minigame that could probably carry a whole game.
>>389352629
I pirated it and liked what I played, I'll probably buy it now that it's been patched. My game seemed to be broken, I licked the frog in the area behind the waterfall where you defuse the bomb, but it only triggers the psychedelic effects, it doesn't reveal the puzzle which I think it's supposed to do
>>389354482
Yeah, it's supposed to turn the otherwise featureless wall into a mural so you can solve the puzzle. I had the opposite problem in that area, where the psychedelic effect would only last like five seconds, so I'd have to do the puzzle little by little, pausing constantly to lick the frog again. Then, the last time, when I was about to solve it, the psychedelic effect stuck around, so I was in Nazi Germany seeing flowers and grass everywhere.
Feedback greatly appreciated anons.
>>389328017
>>389333717
I think I'll be skipping the "sandbox" games of B&S/H3VR as not only are they never on sale but I do enjoy having some kind of story or actual game to go with the framework. If a truly groundbreaking mod does come out, I won't have lost out on anything by waiting to buy them. I have SkyrimVR for the melee violence and plenty of other gun autism available in HL:A, ITR, and Pavlov.
>>389328759
Appreciate the warning on Legendary Tales being a Korean grindfest. I'm also seeing some shit about their discussion boards being "owners only" so no asking questions in advance. Gives me a bad impression there.
>>389333075
Call me a heathen but I did enjoy the nuFallout games (3/NV) so if I can get some of that similar experience/fun in VR I'll be all for it. Would consider buying a key but they don't seem to be much cheaper when converting to leafbucks, so I may pull the trigger here. Also thanks for the Bean Stalker info.
>>389333717
Interesting thoughts on the boxing games. I'm leaning more towards the workout side of things being what I need, but could keep the other on my wishlist or buy both and refund what I don't like.

It's because, I think it's the lighting, for some reason the wonky colors of until you fall and pistol whip make the wireless go a bit insane -you'll see what I mean when you see them in movement-, that's my theory, should run well on a decent enough router tho,.

>>389377702
It wouldn't be a problem on its own, but this time warp thingy is absolutely killing me. With settings low enough, i was able to run it at full framerate on 1080, and I was also running it smoothly(mostly reprojected) on low-ish with 1060, but this moment of framerate switch hurts so bad that you'd rather have constant reprojection over moments of full 120fps framerate.
What VR video game on sale should I purchase? Browsing by myself I literally only see Payday being worth. And I'm posting my list of games, but to be honest I literally play only AC and shittyass DR2 sometimes. All of these games you see I have less than an hour played in.

That's the max valve ever did. They might make a bigger discount during SteamVR fest next month, but I wouldn't bet on it.
>>389382992
it be lower if Valve ever get their asses to work and make another VR game, then people wont care for Alyx anymore
I guess I'll just get Payday 2 for $0.99 and call it a day.
BallisticNG is pretty cheap at the moment, the /v/ group that plays it I was the only VR player, so I wouldn't like to be alone anymore

I have this game already!
>>389383550
Sell me on this game. How do you play in VR if it's third person?
>>389383728
its not, its both (camera options). It's just classic Wipeout (PS edition) in VR, its fun, retro and fast.
The only complaint I have is that later levels need a quick-skill cap, as turning is really hard on these maps, and requires a lot of practise.
Otherwise its a solid racing game that /v/ plays every week (I only play in VR)

Is tabletop sim still worth getting, especially for vr?
>>389385223
not really (just extra skins/maps), /v/ group plays custom maps anyway. The only DLC you need is free and comes with the game anyway
>>389386015
i never got it working once in VR, ever.
Then again I cant even play flatscreen Tabletop, it looks too messy to be enjoyed for me, and I envy those who can
Speaking of Doom3 VR, what is the best way to play it?
Is the quest version good? Quest native vs PCVR quest link?
>>389387696
okay thanks, think I'll just stick with real life and VRC for those type of games.
I don't need any Payday 2 DLC for VR yeah?
>>389383174
Also get the DLC thats on sale, it's the best deal for VR content on steam rn.
>>389389664
No, but you get more content/guns etc with DLC. But even with the base game you can join DLC heists as lokg as thr host owns them.
>>389389923
Which one? Legacy? Also do I even need DLC if you guys have it already and the idea is to play with you? Or am I supposed to play by myself as well?
>>389390112
Some guns/builds are locked behind DLC, the legacy collection is a good buy.
You don't need any DLC to play with us. But if you are new to Payday I recommend looking up builds for survivability etc.
If you are totally new, you will be on your back for the first few heists as a lvl 0 player. But the exp of 1 heist should make you lvl 40-50, where you can hold your own in the lobbies and have survivability.
>check this benchmark article on the Reverb G2 performance with a 3090 and a RD 6900xt
>their results are literally twice the FPS I get
I literally don't get it. My 6900xt is a regular one, but there's no way these guys are getting such high FPS, at 100% SS especially.
>>389391980
Most likely user issue.
Post the test methodology and your own setup.
But honestly speaking, you guys a very stupid, just fire up GPUView, record a log and investigate frame timings directly. It's a bit sad that average joe has to do that to get good performance, but what can we do when software developers are retarded.
>>389392360
>methodology
I open game and press play. My setup is a 5800x, regular 6900xt, and 16 gigs 3600mhz ram, games on SSD. I would be amazed if I get 90 fps in ACC at VR low settings and 100% SS. Literally never happening. What would logging frame timings in GPUView do?
>>389393607
Uhhhhhh VR has way more pixels than flat
>>389394070
Ok?
>>389393607
>I open game and press play.
No, I was referring to the benchmark. What is the rendering resolution etc.
>What would logging frame timings in GPUView do?
You can investigate what exactly is responsible for long frames. For example, it's trivial to find if reprojection was caused by spotify updating in the background (it could be anything, oculus runtime being retarded, motherboard led control doing stupid shit, etc).
But your issue is most likely caused by something else. Is your system performing correctly? Compare your scores in the usual benchmarks, like 3dmark, with results from techpowerup.
And, stop wasting everyone's vertical space by newlining after the quote, alright?
>>389394472
>No, I was referring to the benchmark. What is the rendering resolution etc.
The same as in the screenshot.
> Is your system performing correctly? Compare your scores in the usual benchmarks, like 3dmark, with results from techpowerup
Already did exactly that and I'm getting similar results to the average, if not higher.

I've decided if Valve dont release a new game this year or something of equally big from someone else, I'm just going to bite the bullet and buy VORPX, at least then I can still have VR on non-vr titles.
Anyone got any experience or stories from VORPX that you could share for me?
>>389401169
Are they expected to release a new game? Like what games do valve have? Dota, which they didn't make, and Half-Life. Artifact rofl.
>>389401530
csgo, hello? the game is literally printing money for valve.
>>389401724
CS is a Half-Life mod. Same shit. Weird how I forgot about it consideringI have 3 hours and was semi-pro for a bit.
>>389401530
well Valve have been more quiet then usual, it use to be just TF2 support in the past, then Dota 2, now... nothing. Dota 2 is dying hard, and the last time they ignored everything Alyx was being worked on. And how long ago was the Project Citadel rumours, 1 year ago?
Like, they're not even supporting their only active games, they MUST be doing something. They wouldn't bring a new headset out with a selling game, and Alyx wont be it again
>>389402730
That actually makes sense. Simracing game designed for VR specifically that has a big open world and runs great? Please Valve save me.
>>389403109
I dont think there ever been a new IP without Valve buying out another team/company and letting them make it. I dont recall them buying any teams since Alyx (campo santo)
>>389401530
Coomer said there were multiple games in development recently. That could mean nothing coming from Valve but TylerMcCuck is saying they're remaking Alyx for the deckard which seems plausible to me.
I'm most curious about Citadel. We've been hearing about it for long enough that it must be quite far in development. Hopefully when people say it's for both VR and non-VR that means it will be interchangable and not just limited to asymmetric gameplay.
>>389404105
>remaking Alyx for the deckard
Wouldn't that imply that the deckard is such insane specs they need to rework the game and optimize it as much as possible, so they can sell it easier?
>>389404105
>>389404410
Hopefully they'd remake it with actual VR interactions instead of 2016 level cautiousness.
>>389404105

>>389405162

>>389406037

>>389404410
I think the implication is that deckard has standalone capability and that Alyx needs a lot of work to get it running on the hardware. I don't see Valve doing a mobile chip and steam deck hardware in an Index-like VR headset sounds like a terrible idea to me so I hope this is all misinterpretations.

>>389404105
>remaking Alyx for the deckard
Sounds hard to believe, what's his source? Or did he say it's just a rumor/speculation?
>>389406032
They were put on hold, not canceled.
>>389408492
Yeah it's called the Quest 2. Valve don't do affordable. I'd like to be proven wrong by them.
>>389409446
It's pure speculation on his part based on a few lines suggesting that HL:X is still in development, the assumption that deckard is coming soon and that deckard needs to ship with a game. I think It's plausible to want their flagship VR game working on future Valve VR hardware but they also have Citadel or other games that could be launch titles, if they even need one at all.
Am I alone in just thinking Outer Wilds is just painfully unfun to play?
I'm trying the VR mod, and after some big performance drops I managed to stabilize it, but the game itself... its ugly, clunky and really dragfully slow. Even if it gets better later I... I dont think I handle this. Whats the big deal with this game?
>>389410768

>>389408492
Honestly I'd rather a quality wireless product at a premium price point that isn't tied to the Vive shitware
>>389410768
I don't see why they would do a remake. If they actually want standalone Alyx, at most I'd imagine they'd update it to work better, like they did with HL2 for the Deck.

how extensive and mature is the modding scene?
>>389420262
It's more active than the average game. The biggest mods that come to mind are the outer rim (star wars shit) and the medieval megapack. Most mods just add new weapons or spells, but there are some other mods like more gore, coomer stuff, etc if you're into that. The game is currently in between versions at the moment; the beta for the next update should be ending soon-ish and mods break so there might be some filler time. But people are still making mods for the beta.
>>389420262
The weapon and spell mods are extensive but at it's core you're always fighting waves in an arena or working your way through 'rooms' in a dungeon. There's nearly any medieval melee weapon you can think of and plenty of fantasy ones too. Stuff like spiderman web slinging spells, cutting people in half with crazy blood spray etc. There are 2 star wars mods, the one in the webm that just adds lightsabers and works in dungeon mode and another that adds entire star wars maps, character models, blasters etc. but the latter hasn't been updated to the beta yet.
Those short drop in sessions are how I usually play. 30-40 minutes in the evening a couple of times per week just to offload some stress and fufill my childhood swordfighting fantasy.
>>389422672

>>389424874

>>389442116
How does OpenXR upgrade physics and performance? It's an API to grab tracking data and send rendered framebuffers.
>>389445189
Currently with OpenVR things like handheld items aren't tracked properly, whereas OpenXR when that lands will improve things by getting rid of the lag. OpenXR performs much better, especially if you use an Oculus or WMR headset. Try any existing OpenXR game with and without your native OpenXR runtime and see how it works for you. By bypassing SteamVR as a middleman you can get much better frames.
>>389446146
I should add, you can see the differences in Ancient Dungeon's OpenXR beta right now. Go to properties, betas, and opt into the beta. There are some clipping issues in the beta right now, but it otherwise showcases all of the changes in the OpenXR conversion. The performance difference admittedly isn't as huge if you are using an Index or a Vive, but it should still give you a bump.

I've only tried the first one at level 23+ but I forgot to pick up the quest for it before going in. It is the most basic type of MMO dungeon, similar to the naga cave/lab with rooms of mobs and a boss at the end. The quests add some simple busywork. We actually got fucked up by the boss but we were underlevelled and I couldn't figure out what the game was telling me to do to avoid the one-hit AoE (It wants you to jump but the arrow looks like it's telling you to do a backflip or something).
Second dungeon is level 32, 40 for third. After all 3 quests you can climb the giant thing in the sky to access raids. There's also a buggy world boss in the final levelling area.

I like Catch & Release and Gal Gun 2. Catch & Release is a neat adventure game where you can fish, row around, and buy and find new things. It's quite solid. Gal Gun 2 is fun. It's sadly one of few VR games that has campaigns that will last you more than 10 hours, especially as you want to do new game plus to see all the endings, get all the phone numbers, and fully upgrade your equipment. You really haven't beaten the game until you have gotten the harem ending.
Are there any other decent single player action/RPG games besides Skyrim? I don't like roguelike/roguelite/rogulipe/roguelime/etc. I want something with a story/campaign focus.
>>389486614
I just started Catch & Release, and I have no idea what the hell control system they're going for. It seems like it's meant to be played seated, since you're always on the boat, but everything is too far to be reached, and there's no tele-grab. I caught my first fish, and I'm supposed to take it off the hook and put it in the cooler, but there doesn't seem to be any way to actually grab the fish, since the rod is like ten feet long.
>>389488865
Asgard's Wrath is the best and perhaps only decent VR action RPG besides just modding Skyrim and Fallout 4. It actually lives up to its claim of having 30+ hours of content without that content being mindless grinding. I'd recommend playing the game on hard as it forces you to git gud at parrying, exploit different methods of staggering enemies, and use your followers' abilities. Easy on the other hand turns it into a mindless wagglefest, avoid if at all possible.
It definitely does some things better than Skyrim VR. It's a much tighter adventure game where you will backtrack as you unlock new followers to access new areas and all that. You can increase rapport with followers by physically high fiving and thumbs upping then, or feeding them their favorite food. You can physically chuck potions and food at them, and control them by holding a button and pointing at the thing you want them to interact with. It has some cool VR centric weapons too like the Gothi's staff which you can physically slam into the ground to stagger nearby enemies. It's high quality stuff.
I pirated it from rutracker as I'm too anti-semitic to make a Facebook account, much less give that company money. It comes with Revive built in and a bat file which runs it so if you don't have an Oculus headset it should just werk.
Just scored a bhaptics DK3(Essentially an x40) and arm attachments for stupid cheap and way below MSRP. What're some of the best experiences with them? Aside from the obligatory HL:A and Skyrim.

It's not full body tracking, it provides haptic feedback and sensations, stuff like the exact spot on your body you get shot or hit, on supported games. I don't have the Vive trackers for FBT, but I didn't know Dragon Fist had bhaptics support, might check it out, thanks.

If you like minature models and big battlefields of tanks

Really fun tank game in a TRON-like world, you will need other players as its a CO-OP game and too hard to do solo. Requires a joystick/controllers

Is there any new VR tracking technology that would save me from the awful semen slurping G2 tracking? Third party controllers and base stations that are compatible with WMR headsets or something? Or do I just need to wait for the new Valve headset and shell out the insane amount of money it's gonna cost.
>>389514869
This is what you get for falling for the WMR meme.
>Third party controllers and base stations that are compatible with WMR headsets or something?
Wouldn't that just work though? Controllers are tracked with base-stations, headset tracks itself.
>>389515049
Bro I did research and asked around for a month in vrg about what I should get. Everyone told me yeah man the G2 is perfect for you it's the best! I went with it because I didn't want to spend the extra on an Index, but in reality everyone that told me to get the G2 over the Index is a retarded fucking bitch. Facebook I'm not buying. Chink ones I don't want, or are too expensive. What else is there? What happened to that one headset that was supposed to be the best, but people were calling vaporware because the release date kept being pushed back? Been so long I literally forgot about it.

Just played on a VR headset with a friend for the first time in some little VR arcade yesterday, blew my mind enough to get on /vg/ and find this general. Few questions:
> Does it hurt your eyes over time?
> can you adjust focal points so you can play without wearing prescription glasses?
> is VR good for playing long-form games like RPGs, or mostly arcade style?
> I love torrenting old films and making a night out of watching them now and then. Instead of getting a TV or display, could I stream a film to my headset?
> what are the negatives to headsets?
Thanks
>>389517785
Doesn't hurt my eyes, and I'm using a G2, which gets really fucking hot and dries them out, but I think I have godeyes. Not a nerd, so I don't wear glasses. You can play RPGs as long as they exist (there's like none basically), although the best use for VR is simracing games. For movies you can use VRChat, Bigscreen, EmuVR (this is a 90s VR room where you can watch YGO on a CRT, or emulate old consoles), and a couple other methods I forgot. The negatives are that the optimization is allover the place, if you don't want to use facebookshit the headsets are more expensive. WMR is iffy, Valve Index is currently the best you can get for consumer VR, and they should be announcing a new headset soon, which I'm waiting for to replace my Reverb G2 with maybe.
What headset did you use at the arcade and what did you play? I'm assuming it was facebook shit.
Hey guys, maybe one of you can help me. If i remember well, i've seen videos of guys playing some VR video games (like DCS) and have other windows integrated, like one on the wrist of whatever, letting you consult or watch something else as you're playing.
Not sure how and what program was used to do this, so if anyone of you does, please let me know.
>>389518396
> What headset did you use at the arcade and what did you play? I'm assuming it was facebook shit.
They had 4 or 6 Vive Pros hooked up I think (it had wires attached), $35/person for an hour of gameplay with my friend. It was some old building these guys bought up, they put foam mats in and had TVs on the side to correct people who didn’t know what they were doing. The two people working there were actually happy like they enjoyed working there, they were laughing at me wowing like a soiboi. We played Creed, that paddle game where you pull it in with the trigger button, the western where you shoot zombies before they enter your town, and the one where you have naval battles with pirate ships. Most fun I’ve had in a while, I never play video games, we had some tortas after

> Does it hurt your eyes over time?
Only if you haven't properly set your IPD (inter-pupillatory distance) - since you asked about prescription glasses, you should be able to ask your optometrist or optician for this with the reasoning of "got a VR headset"
> can you adjust focal points so you can play without wearing prescription glasses?
No, but there are available prescription lenses that can be fabbed up for additional cost and swapped into the headset. My VivePro fits over my regular glasses though so I haven't bothered with them, and I'll wear contact lenses occasionally for regular purposes.
> is VR good for playing long-form games like RPGs, or mostly arcade style?
Both are good, although there's a lack of classical RPGs. Skyrim and Fallout were ported to VR, another anon above suggested Asgard's Wrath, but there's plenty of long-form games in the FPS genre (Half-Life Alyx, Into the Radius)
There's lots of quick jump-in games as well. Check the recommendation list in the OP, it's a bit outdated but you're almost guaranteed to find something you like.
> I love torrenting old films and making a night out of watching them now and then. Instead of getting a TV or display, could I stream a film to my headset?
Yep. There's also other films that you can watch, and even "interactive experiences" that are much more intense in VRtalkin' 'bout porn
> what are the negatives to headsets?
Cost of investment if you want a solid PC VR experience, you need a hefty machine (think RTX) and a decently sized area if you want roomscale. It's also made non-VR games even more uninteresting to me, and if you're prone to losing track of time you can easily spend hours in VR when you could be doing productive shit instead.
>>389517785
> Does it hurt your eyes over time?
It shouldn't, but you'll probably get sick at first.
> can you adjust focal points so you can play without wearing prescription glasses?
There's companies that make prescription lenses to put in VR headsets.
> is VR good for playing long-form games like RPGs, or mostly arcade style?
Probably later, many say it's too uncomfortable for long-form games but you should get used to it. Best RPG right now is heavily modded Skyrim VR.
> I love torrenting old films and making a night out of watching them now and then. Instead of getting a TV or display, could I stream a film to my headset?
Yes, it's good for that, especially if you don't care about having the highest resolution possible.
> what are the negatives to headsets?
Main complaints people have are motion sickness (it's usually temporary), "waggle" like the Wii (it's not), "too much physical effort when you just wanna sit down and relax" (most games are playable sitting, actually), "big and clunky", sweaty, too expensive for the number of good games, volatile industry (one day you buy an expensive headset, the other they announce one 2x better and cheaper), not enough FOV, "it's not like SAO/The Matrix yet"
>>389530127

A Mage's Tale is OK. I like how you can combine spells and all that. That's really it as far as I can tell. You should just play more Skyrim as it's still leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of the scene and the only good option there is. Anons if I really hate the compression/lag of Oculus Link and a bit evasive of the Vive just on the price and Deckard probably being right around the corner, how valid would the Reverb G2 V2 be in this scenario if I'm mostly playing H3VR and VTOL VR?
>>389517785
>Does it hurt your eyes over time?
No.
> can you adjust focal points so you can play without wearing prescription glasses?
OG vive is adjustable to make a bit of space for glasses. I think index is too. Not sure about oculus stuff. VRoptician can get you lens replacements so you don't have to wear glasses in your headset though. Highly recommended to not wear glasses inside your headset because it can scratch up the lenses and fuck it.
> is VR good for playing long-form games like RPGs, or mostly arcade style?
Depends on your fitness. You are physically moving around all the time in vr. Personally I don't play for more than 4 hours at a time but I am not american and play standing roomscale every time. There aren't really many games that are long-form right now anyway.
> I love torrenting old films and making a night out of watching them now and then. Instead of getting a TV or display, could I stream a film to my headset?
People do this in bigscreen vr and in vrchat all the time. I personally don't find it comfortable and am a bit of an autistic spaz so I can't really sit around watching for long.
> what are the negatives to headsets?
Comfort I guess? You need a pretty beefy computer to run it too.
damn, Assetto Competizione looks real nice on full details. Notice this little reflection on the plastic bit around roof part of the rollcage. Shame DLSS doesn't really work in VR, makes everything fucky between two eyes when there is a lot of detail.

Valve patenting stuff means jack shit. They patented a wireless adapter for the Index years ago that has not materialized at all. Buy based on what you can actually get rather than on speculation. Youtubers like to hype up rumors in order to get clicks. I use the Quest 2 and the Reverb G2 for different tasks. The Quest is great for movement heavy stuff and some Quest exclusives like Team Beef ports and RE4. The G2's faster response time makes it better for driving games like Dirt Rally for me, and open world stuff like Skyrim and ITR where I want to see far ahead.
>>389557087
Works on my machine. Going on fantasy adventures with good clarity and good tracking is lovely. Not ditching this setup unless the Deckard actually comes out and has better specs.
>>389554829
I have a g2 it's not that bad.
>>389559307
What headset?
>>389554829
I don't know man. I have v1 G2 before they supposedly "fixed" the tracking, and I'm torn on recommending it. Yeah the clarity is great, but the FOV isn't that good, and the tracking is ass, and you also need a monster PC, because the resolution is so damn high, and WMR is dogshit. On the other hand like what are the alternatives? Facebookshit I'd never buy or recommend. Vive Pro 2 I really don't know to be honest. I still like to think the Index is the best headset currently, even though I've never tried one. I mean what good is my super clear display if I have to play at 60hz and play at lower than 100% SS on a 6900xt anyways? Sure I play only simracing games, which are probably the most demanding ones, but with this poopoo tracking what the fuck am I to play? I personally have slight buyer's remorse. It's not shit but it's just alright I guess.
>>389519968

>>389562378
As somebody who tried the Index and 6 other headsets, it's not the best headset anymore. It's really showing its age in mid 2022.
Have you tried using the FSR mod? It can be such a ridiculous performance booster on higher res HMDs, like the G2. I easily can get around 25-30% performance gains without losing too much quality on my Pimax 8k X. That's enough of a difference to either crank some settings up or avoid reprojection hell in most cases.
>>389563094
Yeah I am using FSR and every little trick to squeeze performance out.
>>389563339
Sounds like a computer issue. With my 3080 I can keep 90fps with most games. It's waaay clearer than the Index, and with a thinner face gasket (Either the new official one or a 3D printed one) the FOV isn't much worse.
>>389564003
Nah it's not a computer issue. What's the best consumer headset currently anyways? I haven't been keeping up. The Varjo Aero or something?
>>389563339
Well, I hate to tell you this then, but should've probably gone with team green. AMD's VR performance tends to be worse than Nvidia. To where the 3080 actually trades blows with the 6900XT despite being a tier lower in flatscreen games.. Sometimes, it's worse, sometimes it's better
>>389564395
That depends on your definition of "best". Right now, every VR headset has some kind of compromise, even ignoring "Can your PC drive it?". If you want FOV to see the edges of the universe that blows fucking everyone out, go with the Pimax 8k X, it has 160 degrees horizontal which completely dunks on even the Valve Index's comparatively tiny 108 degrees, much less the G2's 99 degrees. If you want clarity while sacrificing literally everything else, such as good audio and a mic, you want the Varjo Aero. You want high hz? Go for the Index or Pimax 5k Super.
The Pimax 12k is looking to be utterly fucking insane with basically human vision tier FoV, Varjo Aero like clarity, eye tracking for dynamic foveated rendering, wireless potential at full resolution with a separate addon, standalone, and QLED panels an order of magnitude better than current LCD with HDR, but it's 2400USD, not coming out till the end of the year, and the company still needs to prove they can deliver on the promises.
>>389564395
The Varjo Aero doesn't have speakers or a microphone, and has a smaller FOV than the G2. It doesn't work with AMD cards either so you are out of luck. https://www.roadtovr.com/varjo-aero-review-vr-simmers-vr/ goes over measurements. They did patch in localized dimming lately which adds a psuedo-HDR effect, which should give it better colors than most headsets. Whether it's worth $2000 USD+The cost of controllers and basestations and a new GPU is up to you.
>>389564395
You fucked yourself by picking an AMD card. They're not compatible with the high end headsets like the Aero or Pimax 8k X. Something about AMD's hardware issues relating to VR and DSC, because multiple manifacturers have issues with their shit and most of them are those with next gen features or exterprise stuff, like the Varjo or Xtal.
Can I effectively play VTOL VR with an Oculus Quest 2 setup?
>>389564854
Since you're the guy with the 46 headsets, what would you say is the best headset for simracing? Also I take back saying the Aero is a consumer headset. 2k bucks without controllers and base stations is kind of too much, even though I guess if you're only simracing you don't need controllers, as long as it can track your head position. Don't the Pimax and other Chinese VR companies come with a bunch of red flags though? Not sure if I can trust Pimax.
>>389564895
>doesn't work with AMD cards either
Yeah I was jsut reading the requirements and I was wondering why it only lists Nvidia cards. Honestly when the 4000 series is out I'll be going back to Nvidia if the pricing and availability is decent. I mean I'm having issues with a 6900xt that I didn't have with my previous card, a 1660ti, which makes no sense.
>>389565919
Yeah, just like any other PC game.
>>389565973
I ask because I remember I had difficulty with Into The Rift's inventory system. Just a bit. It might've been my lighting but I felt like I couldn't reach a few pockets.
>>389565275
Yeah but I bought it at launch basically because back then the availability was insanely fucked and I sniped what I could immediately, and I got it for close to MSRP. Was looking at 3080 cards otherwise. I think back then there was no way of knowing AMD is ass for VR.
>>389565934
If you want sim racing you really want Pimax. The field of view is godlike for that sense of speed you get as you can see everything racing beside you in your periphera., it's like having triples. I have a friend who does a lot of sim racing and he's used a few HMD. Pimax is his favorite because he can see both his rear view mirrors without needing to turn his head at all. Though they're outside of the sweetspot so can't make out all the fine details, but it's enough to tell "is something coming up behind me?" at a glance or just tilting his head a few degrees rather than fully turning.
They're chinese headsets but they're not like Pico Neo and being directly tied to the CCP. Just a warning though that they take a while to tinker with and dial in properly. They're enthusiast HMDs which give you a shitton of control over things like software IPD, backlight intensity, and individual color channels, so you can customize your experience a lot. But the stock experience isn't that great. You'll want to spend some looking at things like IPD guides. You also will need to get base stations for tracking. They technically can do 3DOF tracking without it so in a pinch you can sim race without stations, but you really want them. Unfortunately the 8k X is not compatible with AMD. At least the DMAS version. The KDMAS version does work with AMD as the DMAS is a slight hardware revision. Shits demanding at 4k per eye though. The 5k Super is 1440p and has about Rift S clarity, slight better, so little worse than the Index, but the same FoV. You can trade in the HMD later to deduct what you paid from the 12k if you end up wanting that.
I know the website looks like fucking shit and incredibly suspect, but even Pimax themselves have acknowledged it and are planning a new website launch next month because of it.
>wanted to check some Pimax specs and if they have anything new
>there's a 40% sale or some shit

>Refurbished

>>389567149
The 8K Plus is super deceptive. It does technically have 2160p panels, but it only receives a 1440p input and upscales them. The 8KX is true 2160p, hence why no one wants the 8K Plus and them dumping it.

Valve is absolutely working on another HMD, no question. But it will either be retard expensive or coming way down the line if it has even half the features in those patents, or it's going to be absolutely nothing like the patents at a lower price point and thus the speculation doesn't do much good and it's hyping people up for nothing.

>I guess I mean it feels like a fairly large jump is about to happen in VR headsets
You're not wrong, but almost everything right now is at the real high end of 4 digit figures.
The Q2 has a double whammy of the compression overhead and the fact running anything through SteamVR has the extra runtime to go through of Oculus>>>SteamVR which sucks resources like a blackhole.
>>389573354
Is there anyway to force games to run through Oculus' VR front-end without it going through SteamVR? As I think that'll fix some of my issues. Just with H3VR it can go from full FPS on max settings to absolutely struggling to get above 40 on lowest and it's completely random so it's rough at the minute anon.
>>389570830
They had datamines of the Index wireless adapter too. And Half Life 2 Episode 3 for that matter. Whether Valve chooses to follow through depends on how their employees are feeling at a given moment.
>>389572923
You can always buy the G2 and return it for a full refund if you don't like it. I had the same issue with the Quest 2's smudgy compression even with a Wifi 6 router, and like the G2 for some games as it does give you pinpoint clarity. It can be hard to run at times, but most games these days are Quest ports and VR Perfkit helps a lot.
>>389573528
If the game supports OpenXR then even if the game is on SteamVR there's ways to have it force run the Oculus OpenXR runtime. I know people have done it with the Resident Evil mods and gotten vastly better performance. But if it doesn't then I think you may be out of luck. The same problem arises, but in reverse, when trying to use something like Revive via SteamVR to run Oculus store game.

Opencomposite does that for a limited selection of games. Doesn't help that OpenXR still isn't standard; Worst offender to me is After The Fall, the game has an Oculus PCVR version but if you own it on Steam you're forced to use SteamVR. I thought we were past that kind of dumb shit.

Any Eurobros in here actually have the Pico? The package is very appealing with its DP connection and "pro" like 5400mah headstrap. I'd really like to get into native pcvr but dont want to have to deal with HPs tracking or having to buy a used rift s with known reliability issues.
Either I pickup a neo once its out in NA or I Stay Tuned™ for sony to confirm pcvr compatibility for psvr2.
Right now, you either buy quest 2 or wait for the next gen. Every other option is retarded.
>>389604626
Or the index. You need to realise that they're priced like cars, not like CPUs. They're complex pieces of machinery and electronics that are not benefiting from manufacturing improvements over the last few years. They're being made from the same factories with the same materials as they were 4 years ago.
>>389604793
No, buying index in 2022 is retarded. $1k for 2019 headset, yeah, gaben can go fuck himself.
>>389604793
The Index is a shit buy at 1k MSRP now. If it was 800 it'd be an easier buy, but fuck no is it worth 1000 bucks. Refurbished ones show up for 700 bucks on Gamestop now and again in the US.

>>389607050
Even if we entertain your retarded analogy (which is also wrong), the Index is not even a "good car", that is the point. I have yet to meet a person who was using index for more than 6 months and didn't have to go through RMA.
And they are charging premium for that shit.
Nah, dude.
>>389607050
Your comparison is bad because VR headsets aren't even in the same category of expensive. And older cars tended to get discounted or cheaper than newer ones over time, so your example works against you.
Nobody is saying the Index is a bad HMD, but it's just badly priced 3 years after release and offers poor value at MSRP. There's looking to be a lot on the horizon for VR headsets which will be a generational leap, most notably eye tracking and dynamic foveated rendering.
>>389607367
Well then stay out of vr, goodbye!

There will be people complaining that headsets with these features are 3k dollars. The reason we will not see these features for a very long time is because they push headsets from index expensive to 3k dollars expensive

Nah. Besides the Q2, Vive Pro 2 has vastly better colors and screen with slightly wider hFoV as a trade off for narrower vertical, plus 120hz. And its price has dropped like a rock in most places. The OG Vive Pro has the same FoV as the Index when you use a very cheap set of replacement foam, but has OLED colors if you prefer that and less glare, though bit worse SDE due to pentile arrangement. Pimax significantly wider FoV and either higher hz or clarity and colors depending on which model you get, with the lower one being close to Index tier price, but they do have some jank. Reverb G2 has lower FoV and worse tracking, but it's also half the price as has the same audio system, alongside much better colors and sharper clarity. Aside from the Pimax 8k X on that list, almost all those examples are fairly close to the Index in price or cheaper
The Index's greatest strengths right now are its audio, both the headphones and the microphone, which admittedly have not been surpassed and so for youtube shills and streamers that's a big plus. But aside from those the resolution isn't great, the colors are total ass, and its got blinding amounts of glare. Don't misunderstand me, when the Index released in 2019 it was a pretty fucking amazing headset and even for another 1-2 years after that it was a top contender, there weren't too many options which didn't seriously compromise or were a lot more expensive. But in the current year there's more options, things have fallen in price, or we've got some interesting stuff on the horizon at least waiting out the rest of the year for.
>>389608445

If you're nervous about PVP just try something like one of the CoD zombie lobbies for one of the PVE mods. It's not really the same as PVP but it might help get you a bit more used to some of the game mechanics, like reloading and aiming under pressure, before shooting at other players.

I don't mind some survival mechanics but I'm not into hardcore autism, more into a decent narrative with exploration or shooting/bashing things that doesn't feel too hampered by highly limited resources.
>>389615790
If you liked STALKER, you'll like Into the Radius, since it's basically STALKER in VR.
>>389615790
In ITR you manage your hunger and health. There are limited ways to heal but food is pretty abundant. Food drains your maximum stamina for sprinting. Weight changes your walk speed. There's a day night cycle. Your weapons have durability that can be repaired by you or the shop. Ammo is managed bullet by bullet so you can candy cane load your mags if you want. Honestly as far as the survival aspects go, ammo is the biggest one in ITR because it's very expensive and you'll find a couple of bullets lying around. It's a patient game, lots of planning your approach and walking slowly through hazardous areas. When combat starts you can die quite quickly so rushing in isn't advised. Narrative is pretty light, mostly told through audio tapes, pieces of paper, and things like that.
It's my favourite game ever so I'm pretty biased. It is the only vr game that does what it does so it's highly recommended in that regard. Looking at over 20 hours for a playthrough and the game is actively being updated although it's complete already. There's also a 1.0 "beta" version available on the steam betas that plays very differently and has a different map. You'll hear a lot of comparisons between 1.0 and 2.0 for ITR. They might as well have been separate games desu but you get access to both just buying ITR. Worth trying both too.

The Pico sounds really good but someone in the last thread said the software isn't there yet.
I picked up a game called Alien Extraction, which is pretty nice. It's very "amateurish," in the sense that the voice acting and writing isn't great and it's using stock Unity assets, but the core gameplay mechanics are clever. You're controlling doors and cameras from a safe place as you guide an NPC around and telling when/where to move. It reminds me a lot of a game I can't remember the name of, which had a similar gameplay premise.

I hate how often they don't even bother to modify them. No slight tweaks, no textures, NOT EVEN SMOOTH SHADING, and they charge 13 BUCKS for it.
>>389634523
seethe and copy while I enjoy my sharp vision.
First try on native res felt like I've got a cataract removed. Sharp visuals, no SDE, binocular overlap is fine and FoV is quite big.
It's good headset,.
>>389635049
Trash headset. SDE still there (load up a bright scene and just open your fucking eyes, retard), binocular overlap is absolutely horrendous, FoV is garbage and just cope for bigger numbers (that vertical lmao), junk facial interface which has to be replaced just to get to that "awesome FoV" in the first place. Also impossible to run at native + 120hz even with 3090.
You wasted money and now you are trying to bait people into wasting money too. Unironically kill yourself, shill.
>>389635414
>SDE still there (load up a bright scene and just open your fucking eyes, retard)
>shills Quest or Index
I do see proper filled in colors in anime faces, not an array of pixels like on other headsets, and I have 20/20 vision. I can see individual pixels, on jaggied vertical lines though.
Colors are unironically the best of LCD screens can offer, and black level is almost the same as OG Vive. And yes, I do run it in full brightness with autobrightness disabled.
> Also impossible to run at native + 120hz even with 3090.
Not in VRChat, yea, but all proper games do run it. I do love my sharp vision and smooth gameplay on my 3080.
>FoV is garbage and just cope for bigger numbers (that vertical lmao)
Vertical is litterally the same as OG Vive, I've measured, but maybe it's just my skull shape, but I wouldn't say I'm googly eyed.
>junk facial interface which has to be replaced just to get to that "awesome FoV"
stock one is quite thick, that's true, and I use some off brand thin fake leather set, I bough for my OG Vive. It's just velcros, so basically any fits.

We both know the headset is trash. I see no point arguing with you when you just ignore the reality, denying the binocular overlap issue already tells me everything about you.
I hope HTC pays you enough for shilling. Get cancer.
>>389631087
Quest uses usb-c in USB mode, not display port mode, so yes, native uncompressed video stream, instead of h264 compression, which adds color banding, motion artifacts and makes anything with proper texture into a mush.
>>389636416
It's not trash, it's a sidegrade compared to Index and others. It has it's strengths and weaknesses.

>>389637201
>cannot conceptualize that other people have different priorities than him
Binocular overlap of Vive Pro 2 is just sligtly smaller than Index, and both loose to OG Vive, which I had, and from my experience it's FINE.
But it's trendy to shit on HTC I guess
>>389637609
It's not about different priorities, you fucking faggot. You are being disingenuous by overplaying the pros and saying nothing about obvious cons.
You almost straight up lying, making people think that the headset is "close to perfect" which sets them up for a massive disappointment later.
Just fuck you. Simple as.
>>389637842
it is close to perfect, if you don't care about superb index quality audio.
Cons are small, and visual quality outweights them in my opinion. Pro 2 is a fine vr headset, but some small cons somehow make Vive Pro 2 live in your head rent free.
You can return purchases in a week or two in normal countries anyway, so you can always just try it and decide on your own.

Not shitting on you bro, but nobody wants to waste their time with this, when all the necessary information to make an educated purchase is already out there and should be easily available, as long as people are being fully honest with their reviews and advice. I understand if we're early adopters, but no, I do not want to deal with postage workers, or the jew company nitpicking that I tore the plastic bags the cables came in and telling me I can't get a refund.

Not true, because it my case, the product was just out and all we had were 100% shill reviews and either shills on here, or just people that wanted to make themselves feel important by telling people what to do.
>>389640748
The first youtube shills who got Vive Pro 2 hated it, VoodooDe has deep seated eyes, so he felt like being in a knight helmet, and then he somehow broke the headset overnight.
Then others started parroting him. And kept saying that it should somehow have more features etc.
All **I** wanted was a higher resolution OG Vive. And I got it.

>>389641158
Well I'm not talking about the Vive in my case.
Well I finished Battle Sister and I'm kinda glad I pirated it, if I'd spent ~£15 on it I think I would have been very disappointed. It's fun running around with Bolters and Chainswords killing shit, but the level design is a bit crap and the final boss is annoying as it relies on you using a crappy mechanic that doesn't work half of the time to defeat it and if you fail you have to sit through an unskippable cutscene each time you retry it.
What's the hoard mode like, I seem to remember some anons playing it ages ago.
What was that one headset people kept calling vaporware because it never came out?
>>389623786
Yeah thats also what I've been hearing. I guess its hard to make a judgment as of now since it had more of an experimental soft release. Its probably a better idea to wait for san andreas on the quest before selling it for a pico. The software issues may be resolved by then(hopefully)

Depends on your tolerance. Pulsar was designed for flatscreen first. You'll find navigating the big space station hub town place to be an absolute chore as it'll be a lot of jetpacking and moving your stick. Another ting is that you don't see other's vr hands which makes you feel like you're playing with a bunch of m+k users anyway. Much the of the space ship stations are also done more with point and clicks than anything vr is needed. That said the game looks way better in vr as you really get the scale.
Compared to barotrauma, pulsar has less freedom within the ship but way more freedom outside of it in an overworld sense.
