EU Assetto Corsa: European Racing club
Race 96

18:00 UTC 20:00 CEST, 12th of May (that's tomorrow!)

You know what is happening? 6 hours of SPA! And we have our crew reporting live from there. Gambatte reporters! We are going to have our own matching event - 0.6 Hours of Spa! It's a 2 class race again. GT3 and LMP!

45 minute practice
10 minutes qualifiers
36 minutes race

WARNING, UWAGA! WE START THE RACE EARLIER THAN USUAL!

Afterwards we are continuing to explore Santa Monica Mountains. This times spawn: Stunt road.

If you just bought Assetto - grab Assetto Corsa Content Manager - a better launcher and mod manager: https://assettocorsa.club/content-manager.html To install mods: just drag and drop zip files from mega onto the Content Manager windows and click on the hamburger menu on top right. Highly recommend installing stable custom shader patch and 7-zip plugin in Content manager. Also grab crew chief https://thecrewchief.org/

For communication we'll use mumble at voice.vrg.party port 64738, as it doesn't need any registrations or logins.

> I'm thinking those SE prices are too good to be true. Licensing Tobii's eye tracking and 300 dollars less for the BSB2e equivalent model. They don't sell software, so the only margins they make money on is hardware. Only way they stay above water is doing what they always do. And that's skimping on QC.

I wish I could try out the Dream Air/Dream Air SE/Crystal Super but since they all rely on Pimax Play DRM I can't do so on Linux at all
same with MeganeX 8k and its Nvidia only requirement alongside software sloppa
for now I'm stuck with bigscreen's offerings since they are keeping it simple and clean alongside ETVR-capable cameras for the bsb2e without Tobii slopware locking em up

Anonymous No.523448447

Pimax works with Tobii still I'm pretty sure (it was used for Crystal HMDs)
the Vive Pro Eye was somewhat recently (in the last several months) reverse engineered so that we could finally use the cameras on Linux with ETVR, but its jank as hell and not trained properly so it doesn't perform very well tracking-wise
Tobii just likes to lock things down so if you don't use their own SDK/software you'll have a hell of a time reverse engineering and getting the camera data yourself
not an issue if you're just using it as intended via Pimax Play ofc for the Crystal or Dream Air headsets I guess

used a steam flatpak + ALVR flatpak like this dude https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5k9htTdpuI says

turns out my problem where i got like 0.1fps was because my app on my pico (the apk) was mismatched to the ALVR version i had on my pc.when i made sure they were both the same version everything worked flawlessly. ill check some games , make sure they all work before i drop windows for good

they said it couldnt be done...
HL alyx running on arch linux with an nvidia card via ALVR, and its all using flatpaks so you can run it on any linux distro. maybe windows IS done for even in vr

>>523463569
thats what confused me it kinda worked but i got 1 frame when i turned it on and than black screen. if i moved my head side to side very quickly it gave me 1 more frame of the vr environment and then blackscreen.

my guess is they changed the protocol they use to communicate between the ALVR on the PC and the one on the headset (since you determine all the settings of both from the PC side) so there was some settings mismatch that sometimes allowed 1 frame to work

>>523465459
yes i tried it and it worked
are there some games that it doesnt support tho? i tried district steel (mostly because its a quick download) and it was fine but when i tried HL alyx it wouldnt run.

I try to fix obviously stupid things, but some bases will never make it below 70k so it can feel futile to know you will be very poor no matter what.
With shit models you can get a 2x or 3x improvement in a couple hours of work, but if the model already has good topology but is in the 100k-140k triangle range you are spending a huge amount of time for every thousand triangles.
Your best return on effort is limiting toggles and deleting geometry that will be covered by clothing. This is best done using blendshape deletes so you can just flag the vertices (often already done by the creator of the base) and toggle them off in unity.
And don't be stupid with physbone colliders, there is basically never any reason for any physbone to have more than 3 colliders (and most far fewer) and I've seen travesties even in otherwise well designed models.

You can send in whatever you want. It'll be compiled into a segment of your own wall as the photographer.
Note images are compressed into 1080p for the map's purposes but you can send 4K images if need be.

Unity side is easy and quick to learn, but god damn, I've got into modern unity-heavy avatarfaggotry only recently and I didn't enjoy a single second of googling on what each individual framework and module can do. Don't worry though, no rush, sooner or later you'll learn it all simply by existing around here and having to do a thing or two every now and then.

I can probably pick up on blender with a few tutorials, since it's a lot harder to fuck around with keybinds and the stuff for me blender wise but ty anon!

By the way I forgot, boredom tea will be tomorrow at 18:15CEST
> What?
An instance where people are encouraged to join for a cup of tea and eventual snacks if they fancy it. The instance will be closed after 30-45min
Likely in a simple room with a table and a video player
> Why?
To share relaxing time before bigger instances and after work. With a focus on things having to stay calm and simple. Making it time limited to ensure it is meant to be an in-between time rather than something big. For that reason it will be posted in the thread but as invite+

BahumotoD should really look into making a spinoff of VTOL VR with civilian aircraft. Kids and autists alike fucking love those ATC RP servers already in VTOL VR and if you target it towards Quest you'd probably do great.

I personally would really love a VR representation of a C-172 so I could do flight practice at home- and with VTOL VR's interactive cockpit system you can do that on a $300 headset sitting on any chair in your house vs having to buy specific controllers to replicate the aircraft's controls that in practice cost more!
Anonymous No.523572457

yeah someone recommended me VTOL VR and i declined because there's no civilian aircraft. I wouldn't mind if there was Military made versions of the A330 and 737 since I typically get those flying over me from the RAF. MSFS is hell with VR since i last tried it but let's see what happens in the future. Never grasped the ATC concept. because of the way I slur words sometimes while reading back and im a lil slow to pick up on xd

Oh yeah. Back when I actually hosted VTOL (rip) we did a mission where we drove the AV-42s around and acted like ground vehicles, and shit was SCARY. Generally in air combat you can see and avoid what's going to kill you and at least stay away from it, no such thing for a tank under artillery or ATGM/gunfire!

Leaning into the near future aspects there's a lot you could do with APS charges/some sort of automated C-UAS gun/radar/laser/IR launch alerting systems that'd make it really cool.

Bretty neat. I've kinda wondered down the line eventually if we'll see an era of proliferating brands similar to how Beckenzi/Extension and others like them have increasingly gained recognition by name and style that eventually evolve more and more into what Yoyogi is trying to be for example. That's a Bigscreen specific issue because they're just sending a lower resolution image at 90Hz and upscaling it on the headset.
Other high resolution headsets don't do that, even Pimax didn't manage to get themselves in a situation where they had to resort to that.

I tend to only place SOS logo branding these days if I started the idea (50% of the time as a compromise with a vocal thread schizo).

Trying to help develop more newer blood event creators.
So the moment ID asked for help on how to even start making a map I knew what I must do. Such initiative needs to be rewarded and nurtured.

But helping out and making an event successful from built-up tech over the years and organizing anons from contacts of various skill sets and delegating and sometimes teachings tasks to them into a fully formed event is tough and more importantly time-consuming work. Time which I am quickly running out of to spare.

Now that the systems are in place, the project is setup, the base map is up and running and the social glues between the talents are breathing.
This next race war I can't offer neither mentorship nor organizational help. Just the built-up SOS systems over the years by me and our friends here of /vrg/ who offered to make each successive prefabs better and stronger.
All I've ever asked for is to be appreciated. A lot of these work stems from that desire. A lot of the branding is that as well.
After all if people don't appreciate the work I put in, then I'll do the crediting myself. Each of the prefabs are properly named credited to those who contributed in building it.

tl;dr Appreciate your fellow anons
Thanks for reading my blog. I just felt like spilling it out here

Bigscreen intentionally tried to be misleading as fuck about the DSC thing for a while and acting like it was the same as any other headset pre-release, even in your screenshot they say it uses DSC to compress the signal to 1920x1920, which just isn't true because DSC isn't literal upscaling.

Was annoying as fuck how prevalent that idea was pre-release and still you get people even now not understanding what's happening.

You have to remake the materials in unity with different shaders. Standard shader isn't really cut out for anime girls. As for the merging of skeletons it's clearly not weighted to your body at all. Check the vertex groups match (names of the bones) between the two armatures and that it is actually parented to your main skeleton. If all of the bone's names match and you have applied all of your transforms, you can just select the clothes then the body and press ctrl+J to make it work. Deleting your body mesh under your clothes is a good way to cut down on verts.

the bones are parented properly but I think the weights got completely lost. I have to relearn blender every time I try to do anything with it, so it will simply take time and effort to get right.

>Standard shader isn't really cut out for anime girls
I will have to experiment. I don't like how powerful the specular on the jacket ends up when I have it turned really low in blender. My old avatar looks OK using the default shader somehow but I don't know what tricks it uses. This is my first time ever using unity and clumsily trying to put things together...

i have one of the worst computers in vrg, im telling you that 70k tris vs 200k tris barely has an impact on performance and 90% of my issues are vram related
the very poor tag is not useful as a filter because it's far too strict on things it doesnt need to be strict about (such as tris, which btw have the same rating for good as poor), whereas the qualifier for poor is a whopping 150mb which is ridiculous, no avatar should be above 100mb period

because of this, 99% of people do not bother to optimize themselves which means hiding people based off performance ranking is a losing game.

I complain about the tiers all the time. The main offender is the polygon count, it's so fucked. It was set back when shapekeys mattered and a shapekey on a 70k mesh would actually be a performance nightmare. Not the case any more for multiple reasons. One is that the bug was fixed, two is that meshes aren't one big joined mesh any more so shapekeys on smaller meshes is standard now. The stats are from the days when people threw together MMDs on unity 2018 and they are not useful for modern avatars.

this is the way to go. as a newfag you should basically not be concerned with decimating unless you're trying to be a Good rank as a goal (pointless, nobody filters by perf rankings), your #1 goal should be download size and texture memory, which are both super easy to optimize with some basic unity plugins
bones and mat slots matter too but not nearly as much
Anonymous No.523614243
>>523613679
>>523613859
agree with both
modern hardware has the horsepower to draw a zillion triangles no problem, but still 300k is too many when there might be 80 avatars in the scene. Even 100 MB VRAM is a crazy amount if you multiply by 80. The face and base have a symmetrical texture but the UV layout has both sides unique. Could be packed a lot more efficiently such that lower resolution textures can look better.
Anonymous No.523614275

urm anon you also want to reduce your animation controller size too, and physbones still.
CPU usage is killer.
Polygon count doesn't matter a great deal unless there are shapekeys running on large numbers of verts.

>70k tris vs 200k tris
You mean 5600000 vs 16000000.
Anyway yes we all know the system is shit however you should be under the very poor mark on every other stat so doing the extra leg work to get under 70k poly shouldn't be such a daunting task. It is that very attitude of "doesn't matter" that leads to the need for avatar hiding. If you just made a medium avatar you use in normal meetups with one outfit and no toggles we wouldn't have this problem. Imagine a world where you could have frames and see everyone and have all your friends in the same instance. We had it at the fumo meetup. It is possible.

The developer promised the world and kept bragging about how easy it was to make a VRChat clone and how far along his game was in comparison to VRChat already.
He had a patreon you could donate monthly to that he roped a ton of people in /vrg/ in to donating to because he swore his game was so much more advanced already compared to VRChat and so much more optimized.

The reviews pretty much say it all
https://store.steampowered.com/app/886710/Lavender/#app_reviews_hash

It wasn't even a functioning game when it first got released, you could barely even connect to other players, and it was a game you actually had to pay $20 for upfront as opposed to VRChat or its alternatives like CVR and Neos/Resonite that are free.

It's been abandoned with no updates and no players for years, yet has gone through promises of multiple engine changes and promises that the game is still being worked on and is going to be coming back, all for a playerbase that i don't think has gone above 0 on the steamcharts for the past 4 years.

I mean yeah you're not wrong. They designed that game to make use of the physics engine and because of it the world is full of stuff to interact with. In alyx it's like woah you can throw a bottle around. Does it do anything? No. The gravity gun in VR is fantastic.

I wouldn't go far to say that alyx was bad, but it was mediocre. The worst thing about it was not the gameplay though, it was the VR design. Absolutely hobbled design that set the golden standard for VR games to be godawful dogshit. Yeah no wonder VR isn't taking off if that's the golden standard.

You can now have a red, green, or blue reticle on the vanilla reddot, vanilla holosight, or the comp m4 by buying these fake attachments after the sight you want to change. The weapon has to have a canted sight slot and it won't work on any other sight. You can also update it manually by turning the gun sideways to enter attachment mode, or remove it and put it on other guns. I would make it free, but the buy menu doesn't allow that so it has to be ONE DOLLAR for now. Will probably make it more intuitive in future.

if you compared with the same steamvr resolution (like 3560x3560), would the 3840 displays still look better than the 2560 ones?
Anonymous No.523655545 Replies: >>523656534

for the same fov, yes
human eye resolution is 10k^2+ for a reasonable fov.

if you talking about displays
if you talking about the rendering res, yes too, you will get better AA with bigger framebuffer

oh, i think i get what you mean, you worded it so weirdly.
basically the question is "would the same size framebuffer look better at a higher res display?". of course, why wouldn't it?
if it wouldn't, everyone would just buy 800x600 monitors and just keep increasing the rendering res.

The picture will also get blurry in addition to the normal rasterization aliasing.
You don't want to do it.

It's actually better to get lower res panel if you can't render at "native"(panel+ compensation for lens distortion), because the picture is going to be sharper.

Thing is, I don't want to pay anything without confirming that there is hand tracking but it seems like I can't do it. I can't use steam link, only steamVR and a USB cable but nonetheless it should work anyway, right? Because I have read the official guide and I am on steamVR beta and have configured virt-a-mate 1.22 to use hands and everything but I am stuck with controllers.
